A lot of talk lately about how Trump is singlehandly de-nuking N. Korea. Kim Jong-un has only been in power for 5-6 years. This may be the first time Jong-un has dipped his toe into diplomacy with the West.

this is what I’ve been saying all along, Trump is a short timer.
I agree with By Victor Davis Hanson wjhen he writes:
“Trump could not cease tweeting, not cease his rallies, not cease his feuding, and not cease his nonstop motion and unbridled speech if he wished to. It is his brand, and such overbearing made Trump, for good or evil, what he is — and will likely eventually banish him from establishment Washington, whether after or during his elected term. His raucousness can be managed, perhaps mitigated for a time — thus the effective tenure of his sober cabinet choices and his chief of staff, the ex–Marine general, no-nonsense John Kelly — but not eliminated. His blunt views cannot really thrive, and indeed can scarcely survive, in the nuance, complexity, and ambiguity of Washington.”

PaulE 1059am – VDH did not say Trump is a short-timer. But he did make the case that Trump is most likely a tragic hero (he definitely is not a Repub or maybe even a conservative), there to clean things up, make some changes, piss off a lot of people in the process, and then ride off into the sunset with everyone agreeing that when his work was done he should go because he did not fit in – i.e. the swamp will re-establish itself. But then again, maybe not everything will revert, and Americans will have the memory of what a renegade will do when it needs to be done. Of course, the Left will do all it can to bury that memory – a task they relish and have already started – ‘Party first, and country only if it doesn’t hurt the agenda.’

Trump’s revenge: U.S. oil floods Europe, hurting OPEC and Russia
MOSCOW/LONDON (Reuters) – As OPEC’s efforts to balance the oil market bear fruit, U.S. producers are reaping the benefits – and flooding Europe with a record amount of crude.
Russia paired with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries last year in cutting oil output jointly by 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd), a deal they say has largely rebalanced the market and one that has helped elevate benchmark Brent prices close to four-year highs.
Now, the relatively high prices brought about by that pact, coupled with surging U.S. output, are making it harder to sell Russian, Nigerian and other oil grades in Europe, traders said.
“U.S. oil is on offer everywhere,” said a trader with a Mediterranean refiner, who regularly buys Russian and Caspian Sea crude and has recently started purchasing U.S. oil. “It puts local grades under a lot of pressure.”

Now, jon smith, you are really reaching now. Everybody knows that Walt is quite interested in volcanos, as evidenced by his numerous posts for years concerning volcanos and sharing latest eruptions I find them interesting, especially in light the growing body of evidence concerning previously undiscovered underwater active volancos (massively underestimated in number), and grossly underreported affect underwater volancos have on the “melting” Artic icecap, as previously reported here. Much more relavent to a socio-political Sandbox than reporting earthquakes or tsunamis.
Oh, BTW, genius jon, turn off your frogging italics setting. As per normal. You mess it up for everybody else. Mark the tape.

“I may be slow, but it’s only Monday.”
Ha, I used to know a painter whose punch line was, “I may be slow, but I sure am sloppy.”
I happened to get stranded when St. Helen’s blew (not fun) and was stuck working on that hell hole Big Island on top of Mauna Kea when Mauna Lao erupted for the first time in 50 or so years. Pissed me off cause CBS came in and rented every chopter on The Island, which means I had to drive that long slow road up to the top of Mauna Kea to finish the job, albeit the Mauna Lao eruption was quite uneventful. The lava took its sweet time moving 3-7 mph. Yawn.
While there, and being who I was at the time (a legend in my own mind), I was allowed to go down in the areas closed to the public in Kīlauea and walk carefully around. I made it just a few minutes when this big blast of hot sulfur gas hit me in the nostrils.
Gawd, I was never so glad to get out of that wasteland and get back to America in my life. Vacationer’s dream or working man’s nightmare. One man’s meat is another man’s poison.
Walt, lay that volcano news on me. Oh yeah, I was up on a mountain in Ecuador about 7 years ago when that thing started shaking and spewing and throwing hunks of ice and rocks. 30 villagers died a few days after that wonderful experience, so I headed up to the safer Columbia hill country jungles, home to the rebels. 🙂

http://smokeroom.com/2018/04/23/yeti-nra-statement/
I’ll make it simple for our LIBS. (poor cognitive skills)
The NRA stated this.
“Suddenly, without prior notice, YETI has declined to do business with The NRA Foundation saying they no longer wish to be an NRA vendor, and refused to say why. They will only say they will no longer sell products to The NRA Foundation.”
Yeti says this
A few weeks ago, Yeti notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, Yeti explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20.”
I doubt vary much the NRA misunderstood.
I bet Yeti is getting hammered.
Let it be a warning to anti 2ND Amend. wusses.

Concerning VHD’s excellent piece to start this Sandbox, I have been surprised (shocked) that he is held in high reverence and esteem by some of the most unlikely 30something crowd I have come across. Article is worth reading twice, be you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Deplorable (the party of Donald Trump, President of the United States).
Time warp time.
Dump Trump? (updated 2aug15)
George Rebane
“Columnists from the national (Victor Davis Hanson) to our local (George Boardman) scene have concluded that Donald Trump may actually be hitting a nerve with voters who are sick and tired of politicians side-stepping and mealy-mouthing important issues like the illegal alien influx and crime, immigration policy, and how to deal with a dangerous and failing Mexico. VDH writes ‘Donald Trump and the Fed-up Crowd’, a compelling piece that concludes –
To explain the inexplicable rise of Donald Trump is to calibrate the anger of a fed-up crowd that is enjoying the comeuppance of an elite that never pays for the ramifications of its own ideology. The elite media, whose trademark is fad and cant, writes off the fed-up crowd as naïve and susceptible to demagoguery as the contradictory and hypocritical Trump manipulates their anger. In fact, they probably got it backwards. Trump is a transitory vehicle of the fed-up crowd, a current expression of their distaste for both Democratic and Republican politics, but not an end in and of himself. The fed-up crowd is tired of being demagogued to death by progressives, who brag of “working across the aisle” and “bipartisanship” as they ram through agendas with executive orders, court decisions, and public ridicule. So the fed-ups want other conservative candidates to emulate Trump’s verve, energy, eagerness to speak the unspeakable, and no-holds barred Lee Atwater style — without otherwise beingTrump.”
——————-
Key takeaway: “Trump is a transitory vehicle of the fed-up crowd”, which is why all the predictions that the Establishment R’s would be so embarrassed by Trump they would force him to quit never materialized. He is out there dangling in the wind time and time again, a lone gunslinger….all by his lonesome…… with the fed-up crowd taking down any R that tries. We watch Trump’s back as R’s are watching their backs. The forgotten people shall be forgotten no more. We, just like the “children” protesting gun violence, want someone to listen to us as well. Listen to the children. We demand to be heard, lol.
I was shocked, shocked with mouth agap when very early in the primaries a prominent Dem (Harry Reid?) cautioned that is political suicide to diss Trump supporters. Fatal mistake, he said. And yes, for the fed-up crowd, Trump is the right tool for the right job at the right time, nothing more, nothing less.
