[It's tax season, and those of us who pay taxes are paying huge amounts. The top 20% of earners pay 87% of the nation's income taxes (see graphic), and a lot, and I do mean a lot more of total taxes when you consider state income taxes for states like California. More here. gjr]

In the “if you tell lie long enough and loud enough stupid people will believe it” dept. comes this tidbit ”
In West Virginia last Friday, trump reiterated his voter fraud fantasy by saying, “In many places, like California, the same person votes many times. You probably heard about that. They always like to say ‘oh that’s a conspiracy theory.’ Not a conspiracy theory, folks. Millions and millions of people.”
What else did/does he lie about? Almost everything…How much longer can you folks believe his continuous stream of drivel?

“When they go low, we go high.” Today I have vowed to engage my fellow pilgrims from the left on life’s journey with reasoned debate, facts, a civil tone, and understanding. I am getting tired of all this vitriol. It’s time we put down this unhealthy rhetoric and seek common ground.

What a tool you are Bessee.
Define what “the media” is please before telling us how “it” rates. Fox, Breitbart, MSN all rate single digits of trust in my book. Reuters, The Economist, and CSM have earned high marks with my trust.
And . . . only 24% polled had any trust in Trump at all and you think that’s just dandy?

Not a pimples deferrment for Trump but bad feet. Didn’t keep him from being a star athlete though. Poor little rich kid, had a bad toe. If you go after me for being in the reserves what is your view of Trumps deferment and your hero Ted Nugent shitting his pants in advance of his physical to get a deferrment. Curious of your view on those matters.
“Back in 1968, at the age of 22, Donald J. Trump seemed the picture of health.
He stood 6 feet 2 inches with an athletic build; had played football, tennis and squash; and was taking up golf. His medical history was unblemished, aside from a routine appendectomy when he was 10.
But after he graduated from college in the spring of 1968, making him eligible to be drafted and sent to Vietnam, he received a diagnosis that would change his path: bone spurs in his heels.
The diagnosis resulted in a coveted 1-Y medical deferment that fall, exempting him from military service as the United States was undertaking huge troop deployments to Southeast Asia, inducting about 300,000 men into the military that year.”

In the civil war you could pay someone to take your place. I know a guy who was a army reserve unit in the bay area who was noticed for deployment to Vietnam but had the civil unrest cause the army to retain his guard unit for riot call ups. How many wealthy families who could pay for a university education protected their kids which meant more poor actually ending up being drafted? All of that is why having a all volunteer professional force is the best way to go.

Trump looks haunted if not hunted. Looking over both shoulders (at what??), not making eye contact (he’s usually good at that), and speaking in incomplete phrases (par for the course). Mueller has a red dot floating on the Donald’s ample center of mass and it seems, for the first time, Dear Leader realizes he can’t brush that thing off with an eye roll or an explicative or two.
Waiting for squeals from the peanut gallery, “What about Crooked Hillary?? How come she doesn’t have red dots on her ample center of mass??”

You are right. I make it a point NOT to read an echo chamber of “the media” at large. When Walt quotes Breitbart 8 times a day, it is easy to understand why his world view is so one dimensional. Did YOU notice something? The Christian Science Monitor actually produces in depth articles outside the news cycle that use a VERY limited supply of adjectives and adverbs to push a political point. I don’t find them 100% neutral, but in this day and age they come close.

Hmmm, Dershowitz on team Trump legal team? I don’t think I have heard of Alan ever breaking bread with the President before. –
A famed Harvard legal scholar is raising concerns about the Justice Department’s ability to responsibly handle some documents seized Monday from Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s offices.
Among the scooped-up papers, and lurking on phones and hard drives, is likely to be a cache of material that’s covered by attorney-client privilege.
Prosecutors are not permitted access to those files, and the DOJ’s standard practice is to set up a ‘taint team’ – a group of agents and lawyers not connected to the Cohen case or the special counsel probe into all things Russia – to decide what they can see.
But ‘taint teams don’t work,’ Alan Dershowitz told DailyMail.com on Tuesday, because seizing the material in the first place was a violation of Cohen’s constitutional rights – even if it’s never used in court.
Dershowitz was at the White House on Tuesday afternoon in advance of a dinner appointment with the president, according to two officials.

re Breitbart (or, if you will, HuffPo) – I can see denigrating the messenger when the message is an opinion based, say, on ideology. But if the messenger brings to you a message, the factual verity of which can be easily verified, then why continue to dismiss the message on the basis of your distaste for the messenger? Doesn’t that indicate that something between the ears is not firing on all cylinders?

A third person who experienced severe bleeding after using synthetic marijuana has died in Illinois, health officials confirmed.
There are now 107 people in central Illinois and the Chicago area who experienced severe bleeding after using the synthetic pot, often called spice, K2 or fake weed, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“Each day we’ve seen the number of cases rise,” said director of the IDPH Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D. “Synthetic cannabinoids are unsafe. They are not regulated and people don’t know what chemicals may be in them, like rat poison. While efforts are underway to get the contaminated drugs out of circulation, it’s possible they could re-emerge. We urge people not to use synthetic cannabinoids now or ever.”
This death comes after three Chicago convenience store clerks were charged earlier this the month for allegedly selling the synthetic cannabinoids laced with the known rodent poison, according to police.
