[I guess tonight belongs to Stormy. We have the DVR on and it's recording the long-awaited '60 Minutes' interview which we will watch a bit later. I presume everyone is preparing their pot shots. Perhaps we'll even have a thoughtful perspective about what our country has now become with this latest widening the rift even more. gjr]

I was just thinking about this.
The natural temptation, if you’re some flavor of Green Libertarian, is that this implies a dislike for Laura Ingraham’s message (such as it is). Stories get spun to fit an internal bias.
Given the natural tendency to politicize everything in the modern era, the simple truth is probably that advertisers will become shy of any media with a political bent. If you sell paper towels (besides Brawny of course), why stick an ad on Rush Limbaugh, Democracy Now, or PBS for that matter. Over time, different industries will get associated with the two sides, and the Balkanization will continue.
Hopefully we can import another zillion people from the third world and continue to tear down Western Civ in universities.
Aaaah. The magic of diversity. I can feel the love.

This decision will correct a longstanding injustice at the EPA, perpetrated against the U.S. taxpayer. For years the EPA has been able to behave as a law unto itself, cavalierly passing regulations which restrict freedoms, hamper business and hold back the U.S. economy for reasons which have much more to do with left-leaning environmentalist politics than with objective science.
The problem dates back to the early 1990s when the EPA decided it wanted to regulate fine particulate matter known as PM2.5 but couldn’t find any hard scientific evidence proving it was harmful.

I like that Scott Pruitt fella. Heard him when he called in to the fabulous Laura Ingraham transistor radio show the other morn. What a knowledgeable gentleman. He is doing 2 things I like…..such as sunlight and not putting up with extortion. No mas.
First, all the EPA in house data is on line or available. The research and study stuff. But, most of the research is done by contractors who do not have to post their methodology or anything to help anyone duplicate the results. Now, outside contractors have to show all their cards.
Second, no more getting sued, settlling out of court, and pay, pay, pay through the nose to the plaintiffs’ lawyers and their clients, be it a class action suit or an indivdual taking the government to court. This is what has been going on: after the EPA settles with the tree huggers or Friends of the Sacred Poem, the EPA then writes a reg and backdates it so we (the taxpayers) have violated some rule and justify donating to the Sierra Clubbers and Butterfly the Tree Sitter/Squatter. What out below! Anyway, no mas. We will see your pathetic ass in court and break your bank, chump. Squash you like endangered cockroach that you are.

The weird thing is that every person I clicked on in her Twitter feed had literally hundreds of sort of whacked-out Leftist speechifying statements to some hated person or the other. The publisher of the Grass Valley Onion has shown his stripes. He follows the children’s crusade as an acolyte of the first order:
“Good luck, conservatives, with trying to peg the Parkland teens as dupes of liberal organizations.”
Yes – those ‘brave’ kids that only by coincidence follow the standard socialist/communist play book of disarming Americans are the real deal. There are other kids that also attended that same high school that think differently, but Rogers won’t even talk about them. They just don’t exist.
He even follows the standard lefty play book himself:
“Frankly, the NRA has succeeded in ensuring the dithering continues with the president, who made some promising remarks about safety measures before taking them back, and both houses of Congress. Congratulations. I’m cynical, I realize, seeing cash logic and fear mongering hard at work here. As if the Second Amendment were really at stake. As if.”
The NRA wants ‘dithering’? That’s a total lie. And, of course – “As if the Second Amendment were really at stake. As if.”
Apparently the publisher of a daily newspaper doesn’t even read the news in his own rag. Well – yes, he does and then he lies.
There is the old “And certainly there are sensible firearms restrictions, just as there are with the First Amendment, starting with not falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater, part of Supreme Court lore.”
But yelling ‘fire’ in a crowded theater is NOT ‘free speech’. It is first of all a deliberate lie and one designed to cause harm and bloodshed.
And just what are these ‘sensible’ fire arm restrictions that Rogers talks about?
Funny he won’t say. Cowards rarely delve into specifics as they would then have to defend those points.

Oh well, it’s an easy article to phone in. All the same magic words and incantations (I love ‘sensible’), basically the same statements by both sides uttered time and again. The Children’s Crusade is kind of novel so it’ll get a lot of air time. There’s the odd Leftist who is pro-gun and a (very) few folks on the Right who are anti, but basically it’s all tied up in a grab basket of other beliefs.
The demographic difference on the two sides is so stark that some combination of DNA, gender, and immediate environment drives most of it I think. Rural white male Green Libertarians tend to be the shrillest, but since they are fighting their local tide, they end up with a lot of ego tied up into the argument.
I think it’s a real testimony to the American system that a party made up largely of minorities, ladies, city dwellers is able to fend off what is basically the most martial part of our society. Near total ownership of media and schools probably has a lot to do with it, although a metastasized government bureaucracy with it’s ranks largely drawn from the Left certainly helps. The problem is that now the cracks are starting to show.

The President like to boast and brag and talk a big story when surrounded by groups or crowds but is afraid to fire someone face-to-face. Embarrassing, but that’s the real Trump.
“And Shulkin continued speaking out Thursday night, telling MSNBC that Trump had actually called him on the day of his firing and acted like everything was status quo.
“I spoke to the president yesterday,” Shulkin told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “We spoke about the progress that I was making, what I needed to do from a policy perspective to make sure that we are fixing the issues in VA. Very focused. He was very inquisitive about the things we were working on, making sure that we were focused on the job at hand.”
Shulkin told Hayes that conversation happened before he was fired, and that there was nothing on the phone call that led him to believe his firing was imminent. He added he only learned he had been fired right before Trump’s tweet announcing changes in VA leadership.

While I appreciate the need to regularly scan the net for anti-Trump factoids and then needling the grouchy old white men about them, honestly that kind of firing makes sense to me.
Dunno if you’ve ever worked for a large company, but Presidents don’t fire Directors. That’s why God made VPs.
Due to the needs of the USA for good deeds, the executive branch has grown truly huge with no real serious reorganization to deal with all the tendrils. I think that I read somewhere that the President has over 150 direct reports.
My guess is that Trump had his Chief of Staff do the dirty work, it’s what they are hired for.
Tillerson would have been a better example of mishandling, assuming that you had any insider knowledge rather than just scraping something off the web, but I admit that something was needed for this mornings news.

That’s all Bunk has to cry about? How someone got fired?
All that counts, is that the bastard is GONE.
That’s like bitching about getting hung with a new rope.

Well, there is that. People have been yelling for that guy’s head for some time. OTOH, that job seems to be sort of a killing field (maybe both for cabinet secretaries and for the veterans). Didn’t Obama go through a few of those people.
Have any of you folks actually used the VA in a really significant fashion, by that I mean the medical part of the benefits? Is there a good reason to not simply roll-up VA medical with Medicare?
