    I’ve been thinking about the age thing with no conclusion.
    You can make the argument that we should repeal the 26th amendment and roll up gun purchasing with voting at age 21. It’s pretty obvious that a 20 year old in 2018 isn’t as mature as one was in 1960 (when the voting age was 21 oddly enough) and the same responsibility concept that applies to drinking or handguns might apply to voting and rifle purchasing. At the very least, having different ages for handgun v. rifle is an odd thing. I’m not sure what the age should be.
    OTOH, it’s nice to be able to conscript 17-18 year olds for a mass army when need be, and you certainly don’t want to consider a 20 year old inner city ‘youth’ as a minor after they’ve shot up a liquor store.
    I do wish that the Left, especially the professional Left, would be a bit less disingenuous . It’s pretty obvious that pro-gun forces fall into either a)leave the laws as they are, perhaps with more CCW licensing or b)go ahead and get rid of the NFA concept (more of a fringe). I can see (b) in terms of suppressors, they probably should be required at a lot of ranges. OTOH, anti-gun folks never state what they really feel. It’s pretty obvious that their two camps are a)only bolt action rifles and revolvers or b)nothing…but, in the meantime, we’ll take what we can get and lie when we have to.
    An honest discussion would revolve around getting rid of the 2nd amendment or not, everything else is posturing or excessive lawyer talk to turn apples into oranges.

    Yes, they absolutely must! Preferably, before November 2018. It might even be in full swing before November 2020. Looking for additional states to ratify around 2022 and 2024… Note the learned JPS also uses the term “semiautomatic” to define the bad guns, which, after about 120 years since their development, is about half of the 320 million guns said to be in the country.
    Now, if JPS says to effectively get rid of guns one needs to repeal the 2nd… isn’t that a tacit admission that it does sorta/kinda convey the right he denies?
    Justice Kennedy was the swing vote on Heller, and it’s been rumored to get him on board they added the language about limitations… and if Kennedy retires and a Goresuch/Thomas love child is nominated, the SCOTUS will start accepting those cases testing the limits of those limitations.

    I have a mental image of 20 somethings working for the heavily polticized media companies madly looking for quotes that agree with their preconceptions.
    Someone else will find a Stalin or Hitler quote.
    And the beat goes on.
    It’s fairly obvious what the founding fathers, at least those who wrote on the matter, felt on the issue. The Supreme Court did it’s thing. No doubt a bunch of politically-oriented judges can counteract any part of those amendments to some degree. There’s that old homily with the rewrite to the 1st amendment: “A free press being necessary to the security of a free state, Congress shall make no law respecting . . . the freedom of speech, or of the press,” implying that only the press gets to have free speech.
    tl;dr Kiddos, just rewrite the 2nd amendment and push it through the states. Until then, I’m bored with the whole thing.
