It’s always “This time it’s different’ when the concerns are about Republican behavior. Imagind the uproar if it was found that Obama was bonking a Porn Star and paid her hush money before he was elected President. Need I say more?

The Obama variant was the gay bathhouse in Chicago (Man’s Country?) where he was supposedly famous for being fellated by old white guys. I suppose that it was good training for the White House when you get right down to it.
There was a certain amount of fuss about those stories, not unlike yours, and then it all died off over time.
I admit that it’s good to see a professional newsman at work.

My, they ran over here today with their hair on fire to be the first to blame blame blame the Shutdown on the R’s and let their fists fly on Trump. They did not take the Shutdown very well. Or so I thought. Aha, silly me.
Today is the one year anniversary of the biggest, largest, ugest, most beaitful crowd ever assembled to see the Inauguration of a new President in the annals of our history.
Boy, they sure get to be all fire breathing dragon-like at times. Reminds me of the ex. And yes, we all survived the shutdown today, nobody died…but Feinstein did say people will die. Maybe tomorrow? Shutdown, I don’t see no stinkin’ Shutdown.

Love the feigned moral outrage. It’s so Harper Valley PTA. What would Shakespeare say as he was dropping lines to th Deplorables with talk of maidenheads and such. I have never heard such talk in all my life! Hillary schlonged Bernie and Trump schongled everybody, including the kitchen sink.
Oh Punchy, you don’t know the half of it. Remember the campaign when Trump was in the anera in Charolette, NC, and that old long haired geezer laid out that young disrespectful punk…well, it was all staged. Damn straight. Trump was so horny that night that while all eyes were on the ruckus leading the punk out, Trump grabbed 4 fine ladies behind him and the dove under the stage. Not one or two, but four! Four? That Trump is an animal I tell ya. Custodian had to take a bushbroom to sweep up all the shredded pieces of lace panties strewn abut everywhere. Mercy.
Got the wind at your back now, Mr. President. Only the Green Libertarians care. That dog still don’t hunt.

Oh gee, Paul – imagine the outrage if the green libertarians found out Clinton was raping women and his lovely wife was abetting it by going after the accusers. MLKjr was screwing all the women he could get his hands on while he was married and the left was sooooo outraged they got a national holiday for him.
No crimes committed, and his wife can divorce him whenever she wants.
Please name a president that didn’t cheat on his wife in the last 75 years.
    Probably Nixon.
This is just now a problem for you, Paul?
Economy is doing better, sound judges being put in place, onerous regs being done away with, AGW BS thrown in the trash, tax code is better, and the immigration code is being enforced. What is your problem, Paul?

Wonder what Trump will tweet from Davos. Well, I am sure Trump will take his whip and chair with him when he enters the lion’s cage. Don’t Trump know they pulled his welcome mat and the Greenies told everybody he was not invited? Trump must have cotton in his ears or something. How rude. Go to the end of the long long hall, then down two floors, make a right, walk towards the back parking lot and you will find Al Gore on the panel in Room 1430A….later in the week.

Sweet. The first small steps towards CAL-50 (flat 50% California income tax for everyone, including corporations) are on their way.
    http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/California-democrats-want-businesses-to-give-half-12508742.php
These increases are the ideas of small thinkers, though. Economy of scale in income redistribution will result in a cleaner world with happier children. Just imagine the good that could be done by making college free for everyone. Chicana Studies and Cyber Feminism degrees could be had for the asking. Free medical care would result in much larger emergency rooms, and larger is more cost efficient. Guaranteed incomes would see us to the cultural enrichening that welfare programs have brought to inner cities everywhere.
    CAL-50!.

The Australian — Trump’s First Year: Truth Gets Lost In Hysteria
The Conclusion to a long article:
Trump could be a success as President and could yet be a disaster. It is too early to tell. But there have been achievements and, for all that is distasteful and unorthodox about his style, he has remained faithful to his pre-election posturing. His critics need to be less shrill. The Democrats need to spend less time shrieking about Russia and put more effort into unearthing alternative policies and candidates.
Across the globe rational assessments of his actions and results will matter, not emotive and personal denouncements.
Perhaps those who hysterically condemn Trump as a means of expressing their own virtue need to consider that if their aim is to portray themselves as more tolerant and urbane than the US President, they might be setting a pretty low bar.

The state has long provided driver’s licenses to all who simply claimed, without proof, that they were citizens of in the country legally. There were no checks made or documentation required.”

    Reality check-
A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released on Friday found that satisfaction with the economy is at a 17-year high, and “those feeling good about the state of the nation’s economy now include 86 percent of Republicans, 65 percent of independents and even a majority — 57 percent — of Democrats.” In addition, “39 percent of all Americans say they’re ready for an economic expansion for themselves and their families, the highest share since 2005.”

jon, these guys are always crying about something.
Walt, it is called The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 aka Motor Voter Act and has been in place for 25 years. Where have you been?
    “Election Fraud
Opponents argued that the NVRA, by making it easier to register to vote and by not providing
states with adequate resources to keep their registration lists up-to-date and “clean,” opened the
door to the possibility of election fraud. And, opponents noted, in those states with large
noncitizen populations, the act made it easy for ineligible persons to register to vote. These
opponents noted that the process is almost automatic when a person applies for a driver’s license, a form of identification that is used by many immigrants to obtain work. The NVRA would be responsible, opponents argued, for the improper voter registration of large numbers of
    noncitizens.
Proponents argued that P.L. 103-31, by making election fraud a federal offense, strengthened, not weakened efforts to prevent fraud. Proponents noted that many states with mail registration systems required only an attestation of citizenship or other eligibility requirement and a signature under penalty of perjury, as did the NVRA. Nothing in P.L. 103-31 prevented any state, for example, from asking applicants on the combined form whether or not they were citizens.
P.L.103-31, argued proponents, provided sufficient protection against election fraud.
This author was unable to find any systematic evidence or empirical study for or against an increase in voter
registration fraud as a result of the implementation of the NVRA, nor have the Federal Election
Commission (FEC) or the Election Administration Commission (EAC) ever mentioned this as a
problem that the states have brought up.”

Keep in mind that it’s unconstitutional and evil and probably Hitleresque to require people to use an ID to vote. This business with a driver’s license is kind of a side track.
Given that there’s no point in compromise, I figure we might as well require military service, passing a civics test, and property ownership for voting rights.
In any case, it’s California (or more accurately, Alta California). You’ll probably retain some degree of sanity viewing your tenure here as tourism. The state of the state is heading for a fairly obvious utopia, and there’s no stopping it.

Walt – I am amazed at the depth and breadth of your reading material. Your efforts are like using a quote from the National Enquirer to support a story in The Star.
Nobody gets registered to vote who isn’t prequalified to vote. People who cannot prove citizenship at time of applying for a CDL will still get the license under provisions of AB-60 but the license is clearly marked, “Federal Limits Apply. Issued for driving privileges only and not to be considered a valid form of ID” These people will not be automatically signed up to vote. Nothing is changing here. Sorry for the buzz kill.

re: funkiness in California voter registration.
Honestly, I doubt there is much of it. Given the huge illegal alien population, no doubt there is a bit of illegal voting, and God knows there’s plenty of sketchy legal voting (aid workers holding the hands of the mentally disabled to ‘vote’, etc.), but it probably doesn’t throw elections.
There simply isn’t enough profit motive to stuff ballot boxes or bus in farm workers.
When a (D) means you achieve most of the state and federal offices, there’s no need for chicanery. Heck, for the Senate seats they might as well save their money and just send those geniuses back to DC without the bother of an election.
Thank goodness we have Democratic domination and live in such a rich place. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have this amazing public health insurance system that we’re all in favor of. Behold our shiny mass transit, free education, and non-existent poor inner city minorities. California is truly that City on the Hill.

Glad you see the Wall Street Journal/NBC News polls as legitimize. they also show Trump down by historic numbers
” President Donald Trump ends his first year in office with 39 percent of Americans approving of his job performance, according to the latest national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll — the lowest mark in the poll’s history for any modern president ending his first year.
Fifty-seven percent disapprove of Trump’s job, including a majority of respondents — 51 percent — who now say they strongly disapprove, which is a record high for Trump in the survey. That’s compared with 26 percent of Americans who strongly approve of the president’s job”.

    From NBC ‘News’ dot com.
“He never ran as a unifier, and the inaugural address he gave exactly one year ago today was a dark, foreboding (and therefore all but unprecedented) exercise in name calling and division. He was by and for his people, his base, their wants and resentments. That, after all, was how he won the 2016 election.
For the most part, he has pursued that base-only politics in his first year in office. That, in turn, has left him with the lowest job-approval rating of any modern president after one year in office.”
    Good.
You know, I even kind of buy the idea of base-only politics as having this side effect. OTOH, the prior administration was essentially base-only in terms of policy, but it featured a teleprompter readin’ guy who would delicately massage in a bit of lubricant before anyone knew what hit them.
