Well, it was an 83% drop instead of the 10% Bitcoin drop.
I appreciate the concept of Bitcoin, although it’s inherently deflationary if it had a monopoly. OTOH, there can be an infinite number of cryptocurrencies.
It seems to me, and it’s maybe just my age, that someone should invent Goldcoin. Get the UAE (or a precious metals dealer in Singapore) to invent a currency with a 1:1 metal backing and then use the cryptocurrency mechanism for doing transactions. Until the speculators move on and people simply use this stuff to buy and sell it’s all just a minefield.
George, let’s go into business and do Goldcoin.

A lunch snack for the po’ ol’ fakenewsman from Tom Browkaw-
“On the other hand, Democrats going into this year, if you’re looking at what they’re talking about right now, they think all they have to do is show up, and they are going to get the congressional majority back again. They better have a plan. And the plan is not to go hard left, by the way, the way they’re going to be led by Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders. They’ve got to have a scheme that addresses the old Democratic middle, people who are the working class Democrats. And unless they get to the that they can get beat.”

So far as I can tell, the Democratic platform is:
. Trump claimed that he could grab pussies at one time.
. Trump’s factotums might have talked to a Russian
. Trump might have seen a Russian hooker.
. Trump might have seen an American hooker.
. Trump might be too fat
    . Trump might have Alzheimer’s.
. Trump might wear a wig.
. Trump might have fired a black worker once.
. Trump might have have had sketchy taxes sometime in the last 30 years.
. Trump might have his polls go up and down
lol. I mean, seriously, just read Saint Paul’s BS on this forum. it’s essentially the opposite of a philosophy, platform, or set of policies.
The thing is, a lot of Americans are as dumb as your average Green Libertarian, so it’s probably enough to give a campaign a go.

Scenes 148pm – excellent summary Mr Scenes, and oh so true. And your 114pm proposal is something to ponder seriously, save that the governments and central bankers will go ballistic. They would send out their hit squads to squash anything that facilitates the ability to use blockchain transmitted gold as money, and since backing a ‘cryptocurrency’ by gold would just make it an untraceable proxy for gold-based transactions.

Re Trump and ‘border security’ – here’s more proof that the president has been speaking about border porosity when he uses the proxy term “the wall”.
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/as-shutdown-nears-trump-says-the-wall-is-the-wall-1516287479
I concur that ‘wall’ is an unfortunate placeholder for the more sophisticated set of technologies all reasonable people, including Trump, understand that will be used to bring border porosity down to an acceptable level. But the lightly read, the plain stupid, and the president’s cynical political opponents will continue drumming the concept of a contiguous border wall into the national mind, such as it is. There is no shame among the liars and bamboozlers taking advantage of the disadvantaged.

…also, it would rather violate the concept of cryptocurrency as decentralized. The gold storage itself would represent a kind of weakness.
OTOH, the mechanism is a pretty good one for transactions, failing some advancement in decryption.
The funny thing is that you could start by merely viewing it as a form of gold (or silver) ETF since Goldcoin could be marketed to a buy/hold crowd.

  9. George Rebane Avatar

scenes 233pm – decentralization of Goldcoin could be achieved by the participation of several repositories for the metal, each having to derive some compensation for its handling and storage on some pro rata basis. And the ETF version would only work if its shares transfers would utilize blockchains. Lots of stuff to set up, and someone has to make a profit from all the effort.

Oh well, funny thing. That’s always the thing, TANSTAAFL. I believe that Bitcoin miners currently get the transaction cost credited to them.
In any case, no doubt this notion is in no way original. What it would take is to have someone with the metal in-house, perhaps one of those precious metal storage facilities that charges rent, and out of country to hire some technical help to buy and sell from their stock using that kind of mechanism. Trust will always be an issue of course.

There is so much there beyond the topic under discussion. The lefty is not able to process a straight forward conversation and constantly gets the points wrong.
The sad part is she represents a large part of what is now the sad state of academia and political thought. The most striking feature of her argument is that she is completely unable to separate his comments about what he sees as reality from his opinion of what he actually advocates.

Common Core is dead, says Education Secretary Betsy DeVos:
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos gave a far-ranging speech today in Washington at an American Enterprise Institute conference, “Bush-Obama School Reform: Lessons Learned.”
She announced the death of Common Core, at least in her federal agency.
“Unsurprisingly, nearly every state accepted Common Core standards and applied for hundreds of millions of dollars in “Race to the Top” funds. But despite this change, the United States’ PISA performance did not improve in reading and science, and it dropped in math from 2012 to 2015.
“Then, rightly, came the public backlash to federally imposed tests and the Common Core. I agree – and have always agreed – with President Trump on this: “Common Core is a disaster.” And at the U.S. Department of Education, Common Core is dead.”

Work requirements apply to able bodied mostly single people of working age. Excludes college students any those enrolled in vocational schools or job training. 20 hours a week and time spent seeking employment and interview prep counts as hours worked.
But, let’s cut to the quick, shall we? The Lefties’ total opposition to all things Trump/Trump Administration/Republican (at all levels) coupled with the lack of any ideas or proposals reveals the abject bankruptcy of the Left.

re: Work requirements for Medicaid / Medi-Cal.
As a practical matter, I just can’t see it. Poor people, especially the indigent and/or young, aren’t going to bother and will simply use the emergency room anyway. The hospital ends up paying the bill and either passes it on to people who pay or just eats the cost (and perhaps goes out of business).

    Peterson:
To understand Peterson’s worldview, you have to see the connection between his opposition to gender-neutral pronouns and his obsession with the Soviet Union. He believes that the insistence on the use of gender-neutral pronouns is rooted in postmodernism, which he sees as thinly disguised Marxism. The imposition of Marxism led to the state-sponsored slaughter of millions. For Peterson, then, the mandated use of gender-neutral pronouns isn’t just a case of political correctness run amok. It’s much more serious than that. When he refers to the “murderous ideology” of postmodernism, he means it literally.

Does anyone notice they aren’t deporting or hassling white people? People of color don’t often vote for pubbers so the idea is to get rid of them before they become citizens and can vote, which would all but eliminate popular vote loser Presidents like trump and Bush. It is all a ploy, combined with voter suppression and gerrymandering to keep the fossils in power indefinitely at the expense of working people and the planet. Any guess as to when trump will start making detainees take “showers” in the detention camps? #SAD

    Unfun facts.
There are more unborn African American babies aborted in New York City today than there are African American births.
The last thing I would today (knowing what I know now and not knowing that I did know then) is to give any friend suffering with depression, bi-polar, or mild schizophrenia a hit off my recreational pot. Pot is an enhancer, nay a trigger for adverse reactions, not a calming smoothing tea for such folks.
Considering that experts have stated decade after decade that 10% of our population suffers from mental illness, which in the 90’s became 10-15%, and today is 15-20%, I have changed my tune significantly since the “do your own thang, let it all hang out” days.
I no longer believe recreational pot is benign and is not harmless by any stretch of the imagination for a growing percentage of our friends and neighbors and members of our community who may have a screw or two not snugged down tight. It ain’t for everybody and is throwing gas on the fire for those already predisposed to imbalance.
I threw out two topics above that you are free to use for ass wipe. But in my tiny andedotal world, it is becoming increasingly too lazy, too inconvenient, too painful not to look.

Well, we tried to get one whitie sent home packing, almost made it out of here, but the community uproar got her back. This was even after she impersonated someone else, lied to our police right in his face, provided false information, no to mention to think about if the insurance on the car she was driving would even cover the illegal if she got in an accident. Even Todd wanted the illegal white woman to stay here.
When you sign a visa, it clearly states you agree to forfeit all rights of appeal to deportion and you are automatically given the boot if you overstay your visa….even after 30 years.
