'You get less of what you tax more.'  Alan Greenspan, et al

George Rebane

This morning on CSPAN I watched the House finally pass the long-fought tax reform bill, and send the legislation to President Trump for his signature.  The Republicans are breathing a sigh of relief while the Democrats are still breathing fire.  Actually, listening to the last floor debate cum kabuki dance, it is clear that this legislation has made every Democrat politician into a liar and/or a hypocrite.  The death and destruction that they claim the new tax law will rain down on the middle class, the economy, and all the poor people in wheelchairs is countered by their own leftleaning Tax Policy Center and the Brookings Institute.

Both outfits report that 80-90% of Americans will see tax relief, and about 1% will not.  The rest will stay about the same.  America’s small businesses that create the most jobs will definitely see benefits come their way.  Large corporations will be able to start bringing back already taxed overseas profits.  It’s hard to believe what kind of unproductive uses of cash our old tax code has borne over the years – today Microsoft has 95% or $132B cash sitting overseas, and Apple has a mind-boggling $252B or 94% of its cash off-shore.  The Democrats firmly believe that jobs are created by middle class and poor workers hiring each other, and that when those corporate monies come back to America, they will be spent for wine, women, and song in the biggest party ever for the rich.

Cooler and wiser heads know that about $1.5T of that repatriated cash will be spent for business expansion by people who actually know how to build/expand businesses and create jobs, instead of being taxed and spent (aka pissed away) through countless other non-productive government spending programs and regulatory costs.  Everyone who has taken Econ 101 knows that our only hope for keeping the country from going down the fiscal drain is growth and more growth.  And history shows that growth benefits from tax relief, and in capitalist America growth has even occurred in spite of taxes, but never because of higher taxes.

In the meantime, starting with Pelosi and Schumer, the Left has successfully sold the new tax law as a “tax scam” to their lamestream media lackeys who have dutifully repeated and reported the same to the public at large.  The bottom line here is that fake news is very much alive and it works.  People who haven’t a clue about what the bill contains believe it to be bad for them.  According to Pelosi, 86M US families will see their taxes increase, and 83% of the benefits will go to the notorious ‘1%’.  The bald fact is that over 47% of households pay no federal taxes at all, and this bill does nothing to reduce that fraction.

As a measure of how effective fake news is, we read from the latest WSJ/NBC News poll, 37% Americans believe our middle class will now pay more taxes, compared with 16% who believe they will pay less (the rest answered ‘don’t know’ or ‘about the same’).  About one third believe that they and their family will pay more tax, compared to one out of six who believe they’ll pay less.  And 56% believe wealthy Americans will pay less tax, to 6% who believe they will pay more.  You can’t make this stuff up; it proves that the nation’s dumbth is manufactured fresh and anew every day when the sun rises.

The Republicans have one hell of a job ahead of them next year to get the message out on their tax reform law; the only wind at their backs will be what the people can actually see in their paychecks and their reduced tax bill (if they pay attention).  And they better see a whole bunch of economic growth before they go to the polls next November.

Stay tuned for the presidential siggy.

[22dec17 update]  Well, the new tax reform act is signed and on the books.  The president did a “not fancy, rush job” signing the bill in the Oval Office with little fanfare, because there was enough of that yesterday.  It was a class act.  The Democrats are panicked out of their minds, hustling around the country telling anyone who would listen that their taxes were just raised, only the rich will benefit, and the economy will plummet taking jobs with it.  This is not exactly the way our trading partners see things.  From all over the world they are publishing sober assessments and informing their citizens that they will now have to travel on a rocky economic road because the American Eagle has had its ties loosened and will now soar again, higher than ever over the competitive world of international commerce.  Joseph Sternberg in ‘US Tax Reform has Europe Worried’ does an excellent job summarizing what the real impact of the new tax law will be.

But not to worry.  That rocky road can be avoided if EU’s economic giants also lower their corporate taxes to launch an economic boom that will lift the fortunes of all enlightened participants.  And here’s the problem for the socialists on both sides of the Pond – they have all been selling a zero-sum narrative preaching that high taxes don’t influence corporate behavior, and more taxing and regulations are the real pillars of thriving economies and a happy social order.  Reality gives lie to both of these ludicrous propositions.  In the US, our socialists again have nothing to fall back on save the dreadful state of their constituents’ (especially the minorities) ability to comprehend, which has been achieved through their more than half-century control of our public education institutions.  The demagogury of dumbth will reach new pinnacles in 2018; for the Democrats it simply has to, or Chuckie and Nancy will be sent home in tightly zipped political bodybags.

No wonder you guys don’t support Trumps statement. the NYT just reported that Trump would pay 11 Million less on taxes based on the only tax return he’s released, 2005. What an overt liar, Good move guys staying away from him. I’m with you on this one.
President Trump would save about $11 million on his taxes, if the new Republican tax overhaul were applied to his 2005 tax return, a New York Times analysis has found. The savings would be a roughly 30 percent cut. He would also save another $4.4 million on his eventual estate tax bill.

Sorry for the typos, y’all. With half the family around for the first of two Christmases this year, and with all the laughing and the kids hitting the dictation button and trying to read as I was speaking and typing and really messing with my train of thought…well…..it was fun time, but sure made a mess of reading comprehension. Mea culpa,

    Quotes of the day:
    — “I like when the poor get tax cuts. I like when the middle class get tax cuts. I like when the rich get tax cuts. I like when the super rich get tax cuts. I like everybody keeping the money they earned.” —Frank Fleming
—-“I just saved two thousand dollars on my taxes by switching to Trump”—- the GEICO gecko.
—- “[Tax reform is] a monster — a Frankenstein — and anybody who’s familiar with Frankenstein knows it was a creation, a monster that was created.” —Nancy Pelosi
Hummm. Yo Nancy, Dr. Frankenstein was not a creation. Frankenstein was a man, a human being, not a monster created in a lab. He created a monster, Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, if you prefer. And anyone who’s familiar with Frankenstein knows that, FYI.
Tax cuts are DOA and Trump is a liar!, said the lowly Popinjay who wants so bad to taken seriously. DOA? Never happen? Dead, dead, dead. Me thinks it is not Trump who speaks with forked tongue. Gotta wonder about those who run around calling darn near everyone else a liar. That is one big boomerang to toss. Everything the Leftist Industrial Non Profit-Fakenews Media Complex does and says comes back to bite them…after blowing up in their faces. I have never heard of such things in my entire life.

Oh Punchy, get it correct. I said the Celts humped sheep, a long historical established fact as well as their tradition carried down through the ages. Not all animals are suitable, or so the current batch of Highlanders tell me. I see no reason for them to lie to me. It’s not like I was cracking Greek sailor boy jokes. Don Regan did that and it crushed his political aspirations after the Reagen’s Administration. Live and learn.
If you want me to clean up my language, so be it. Never hurts to ask. Oh Jewish saying, “Don’t ask, don’t get.” Well, that applies generally, not so much when some do not wish to play with ya here. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, I reckon.
Back to Taxes. While Congress has yet to replace Obamacare, its close enough for me by ridding our nation of that awful mandatory penalty tax for not purchasing healthcare. Shoots up every year. Last year is was like $1,700 bucks if one opted not to join the club, Next schedule to be a bunch more. Getting rid of that tax, as SCOTUS pointed out, is the charge of Congress and it’s Constitutional authority to levy and rescind taxes. That was a very good thing to keep government out of the business of taxing some folks for simply breathing air and having no economic activity, aka, the tax penalty for not enrolling. Gone with the wind.
Very glad to see they raised the floor on the death tax as well…I heard…haven’t looked into the final bill. Estates, farms, family businesses should be exempt under 9.5 million to start. 6 million was too low of a threshold. A man works all his life only to have the government come and take away of what he already paid taxes on. Government always takes the cream off the top, and then half the bottle of milk. Sure, the deceased’s estate has to still file income taxes tand other business and dividend taxes for the year Farmer John passed away, but it’s a crying shame for the kids to have to sell the farm, ranch, small business, shop, or income producing real estate to pay the death tax and lose the family farm, ranch small business. home, or commercial property. It’s so unfair. Opps, it was so unfair.

Still trying to gain traction about President Trump lying about not benefiting on Tax Reform, eh? Benefit personally or does his businesses benefit, hmmmm? Keep knocking on the door and sooner or later someone will let you in to talk about it. Do you want to talk about your pain? Tax cuts for the rich just really gets your hamster wheel spinning. No rest for the wicked.
Here’s a bone coming your way:
Trump lied. Yes, Trump lied. He called Rosie a pig. We all know Rosie O’Donnell is of the female gender of the homospoian race, which is commonly referred to as “human”. A pig is any of the animals in the genus Sus, within the even-toed ungulate family Suidae. Both humans and pigs are mammals and there are someanatomically correct similarities between Rosie and animals of the genes Sus, Rosie Odonnell is definitely not a an animal of the genus Sus, thus Rosie is not a wild boar nor a pig. Trump lied! Busted!
Why is this important or even on topic? Glad you asked. Before the historic vote on Tax Reform, there was criminal bribery going down. Well sourced and documented. Could have torpedoed the whole bill. Good thing Ben Sharpio was on it.

Thanks for the generous offer, Paul Emery. I would take you up on your kind offer but I am afraid I will not find a place to park my Jed Clammet rig…..besides the risk of catching those air born diseases off Broad Street. Can’t be too careful when venturing out into Quainty Town since they took the lard out of Aunt Bea’s pie crust. It just doesn’t taste the same and being so close to the Cultural Center leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But, I appreciate the olive branch.
Now, back to Tax Reform and the dastardly tax cuts for the filthy, filthy, filthy rich.
    A true story:
Once upon a time on a two lane road in the Central Valley (off of Hwy 99) cutting through Ag Land, everything you could see as far as the eye could see on one side of the road was owned by the Gallos, of Ernest and Julio cheap CA wine fame. And everything you could see as far as the eye could see in the other side of the road was owned by Max Foster, of Foster Farms chicken fame.
Neither Max or Ernest were politically active. They both gave to each party, each canidate, everytime, no questions asked. Largest employers in the area. Think Galleo had 420 employees in Stanislaus County (?) at the time, the largest employer in the county. Max had hundreds of workers also, payroll based out of an nearby county. Been in both their humble abodes, a personal tour with the personal touch, but I digress.
So, any legislation that would do harm to Ernest affected the county’s largest
employer and of course, every employee. Same for Foster Farms in Fresno and Modesto. What is good for the business, was good for hundreds of jobs. So, what is the local Congressman to do? Don’t slay the goose that lays the golden eggs with all those jobs for starters.
That’s how it works, like it or not. The evil rich are the the job creators.
Story Number 2, a true story.
About a couple of decades ago, i walked (was wheeled out actually) …I walked out of the local hospital after a rather longer than expected stay. The surgeon was surprised I did not have a doc. He recommended Dr. Dawkins…who was black and taking patients, especially guys like me who paid in full in cash. Told the good surgeon I don’t care if he is black (like, who mentions that when recommending a doc?} and went and saw Dr. Dawkins.
The good doc was from Jamicia and told me a story I will never forget, a story that you can extrapolate to this country, Haiti, Russia, China, Cuba, and Bolivia among others. The good doc said if you give everybody in Jamaica a hundred dollar bill. after a month or year, 5% of the people would have everyone of those hundred dollar bills.
That’s how it works. Demonizing the 5% ain’t to change a thing, except less money in everyone else’s pocket if you come down too hard on the evil corporations and their owners. The 5% will still end up with all those hundred dollar bills, after taking their marbles and going to distant lands.

We must wait and see if they put their money where their mouths are before pulling out the ole hypocrisy card. If they are this upset with paying lower taxes, then surely they will start flooding DC with checks containing their tax savings to help a Big Bro out.

Keep digging, Punchy. Soon everyone on Earth will agree with you. You got all of us here agreeing with you by putting your words in people’s mouths. Keep digging Punchy, you got Dr. Rebane staggering backwards onto the ropes. Deliver the knockout blow now. Strike while the iron is hot.
Admit it, Dr. George. Admit it now! Say it, say it, just come out and friggin say it. Say those magic words, “I admit Trump is a liar.” Say it, say it, SAY IT, SAY IT.
You are getting warmer, Punchy. Getting Warmer…., warmer…warmer…soon you have rest,
