A futile exchange on Bob Crabb’s blog (here). Mr Crabb accuses Trump administration members of harboring ‘medieval beliefs’ and being “religious fundamentalists” and people who would lock up gays as “deviants”. Challenging him to provide proof, Bob comes back instead with citations of policies the administration backs as prima facie evidence that such sentiments could only have come from people harboring the detailed medieval beliefs. When I pointed out the difference between policies and the alleged belief systems, as his repartee I was accused of being just like the other medievals and religious fundamentalists, extremists who are “destroying this nation just as much as the extremists on the other side of the fence.” In support, this drew in Messrs Frisch and Anderson, two of our local leftwing's intellectuals, who had similar problems setting up the dots and then correctly identifying their connectedness. In the process I was again accused of being a “traitorous ideologue” who should find a home on other shores. gjr]

Dr. Rebane:
My, my, my. Well, today is Guy Fawkes Day, but he was not given the opportunity to find a home on distant shores, you traitorous ideologue, you! Afterall, you do reside in SOJ territory. If Dr. Rebane and his lovely bride are forced to flee for their lives because their thoughts do not match their zip code, I reckon I could make some room here for the honorable couple. Oh, I hand wash my clothes and dishes as a habit, but I am certain the Rebane family can adapt and maybe JoAnn will show me how to use that automatic dish washing machine I have never used. Others have told me it works fine, but I prefer to use it for storage of extra pots, pans, and work boots.
The last traitor I read about was given a simple dishonorable discharge. That was….what, 3-4 days ago?
Abortion is a very contentious issue. Not new news. Some (many) believe it is murder, plain and simple, no matter how you phrase or spin it. Scott Peterson was charged and convicted of 1st degree murder for killing his wife Lacy and convicted of 2nd degree murder for killing their unborn child, Connor.
I see most abortions as just child sacrifices to the Statist Gods. Child sacrifices were practiced by the Incas, the Philistines, and too many other cultures to list here. Guess they all got their Judgement Day from unanticipated events. But, what do I know. They are all gone with the wind.
I happen to believe that life passes through the womb, not from the womb. But, again, that’s just me. Minds will not be changed. I like to believe that most people in their heart of hearts have a nagging belief that terminating a helpless life that has committed not a shed of evil is wrong, even if they are pro-choice and anti-war or anti-death penalty. I comfort myself in the belief that it just bothers them somewhere buried deep inside their subconscious. A very comforting thought I can never prove.
I will put a candle in the window for the gracious Rebane’s….just in case.
PS: Kenny of Grass Valley has been reminding everybody to turn their clocks back…for a couple of weeks now. I still forgot, despite Kenny’s enthusiasm and persistence.

We have USAA, the insurance company for the military and vets, and they provide such fire fighting protection to their policy holders in Nevada County. You don’t have to be ‘rich’ to get that service.

Actually – folks that have decided that they should be judge and jury as to what is acceptable speech are the most un-American people I can think of. But I won’t suggest that he leave. If he stays, he might get some proper education and learn something. We are also USAA Insurance Customers and if our Nevada County home was threatened by fire they would send private firefighters to foam our house. They also sent a fire marshal to help us prepare for the eventual fire. We had cleared space, gravel fire breaks surrounding the house, rainbird sprinklers on the downhill side of the house and on the roof all connected to NID high-pressure water. We got an excellent rating from CalFire and USAA. We are not rich, just aware of the danger having been raised in the woods of Nevada County and USAA customers since 1960.

When there is no other explainable solution one is forced to consider there is a medical reason for left-leaners inability to connect the dots. A perfect example is how they treat anthropogenic climate change. When the data does not support their views, they just adjust the data to fit their view of the world. That is not reality, which makes connecting the dot impossible. A rational person would adjust their views to fit the real world, connecting the dots.

Just checked out the reactions to the church shooting in Texas.
Could there be a more idiotic bunch of loud mouths anywhere in the world?
None of them have much in the way of details of what happened. None of them has one single clue as to what to do, but by Jiminy, congress had better just do something!
Best line was from Tom Perez – “Unimaginable. Americans should never be afraid to worship.”
You mean, like in schools and sporting events?
And so the insanity continues.
There are churches and schools where there is no fear of shootings. Because there haven’t been any nor will there be. Been like that for decades. So – just do like they do in those schools and churches.
Nah – that’s too simple.
Because we demand congress do something. And we don’t mind getting shot up in the meantime.
Left wing thinking = insanity.

Anyway, the left and the squishy middle that RL thinks he is are really the problems for the country. They are violent and I have seen them in Berkeley. My guess is RL, Frisch and Manderson think the Antifa are heroes. We on the right are all about freedom and things that make our country strong and great. Those on the left and middle are all about undermining the country through tearing down and tearing apart the values and ethics that have worked. But that is their prob;lem. The lost and and will continue to lose as Americans of good faith reject them and their deviancies.

Walt, or anyone else steeped in gun rights: Do you believe that a person who has twice been convicted of domestic violence (and spent a year in prison and landed a dishonorable discharge for his second count), should be allowed to buy/own guns? Isn’t this the kind of situation where strict but limited gun laws make sense? Repeat drunk driving convictions result in a loss of driving privileges which society seems to accept as rational. Please don’t pivot by telling me a gunman killed the gunman, so it all balances out in the end.

A Dishonorable Discharge is specifically disqualifying. Good thing that’s enshrined in law or or that guy might have shot up a church full of people!

The Texas shooter received a Bad Conduct Discharge which is one of several types of Other Than Honorable Discharge. It’s not clear that civilian law considers that to be equivalent to having been convicted of a felony which does make gun possession unlawful.
But again, before we cry out for more gun laws, can we at least slow down and consider whether such additional laws – given the already existing laws – would have prevented what most recently got us all excited about gun control? We must always remember that enforcement is the crux, and only law-abiders are affected by gun laws, not killers who decide shoot up groups of people gathered for one purpose or another.

Texas law enforcement also reports that the killer was stopped in mid rampage by two legal gun owners who engaged him and then pursued him in a vehicle chase that ended when the killer crashed his car (and then was shot or took his own life?). If so, then this appears to be another incident supporting legal gun ownership/possession where ‘when seconds count, police are just minutes away’.

Heard last night he had a bad conduct discharge after serving time in the military brig. Something that his sentence was longer than his discharge date so he would have to spent more time than his enlistment expires, thus he was released with a bad conduct instead of a Dishonable Discharge. Something to do with timing/length of the sentence and his scheduled discharge date. Have NOT checked it out, got too busy.
Now, does military prison time equate to state or Fed prison time???
