It may well be that the ongoing ‘Russia collusion’ investigation will turn out to be a bigger affair than was Watergate, even if it doesn’t connect Donald Trump to any culpable act.  Special prosecutors must needs eventually find something to prosecute, and find it they will as Robert Mueller has already demonstrated with the trio he currently has in his crosshairs.  And it may soon become a quintet if he adds the Podesta brothers.

But what continues to amaze me is the absence of journalistic professionalism on both sides of the common political spectrum.  As a conservetarian (see Glossary) ideologue, I have no trouble identifying the errors, omissions, and bigotry apparent at the lamestream media outlets.  But in recent months the performance of the right-of-center outlets, some claiming to be “fair and balanced”, has further piqued my concern.  Daily they commit errors of semantics and logic that leave us shaking our heads as we consume our daily diets of political intrigue, inanities, and investigations.

A case in point that now pops up regularly is the entire idea of people (on both sides) being accused of or ascribed as ‘colluding’ with the Russians for divers purposes, with not all of these supposedly nefarious deals having the goal of favoring one or the other candidate in the 2016 election.  These collusions are supposed to be bad because they tried to, could have, or actually did throw the election.  Ferreting out such bad collusions was the original commission of the special prosecutor.

Now ‘to collude’ has a very definite meaning which seems to escape the worthies of our Fourth Estate.  Specifically, collude is a verb that means “to act together through a secret understanding, especially with evil or harmful intent.”  The careful reader will note that this is a two-part definition that requires the inclusion of the second part, characterizing ‘intent’, as the conditional which makes a collusion nefarious.  Of course, everyone knows that people, businesses, and other social units constantly collude to achieve ends that are simply prudent and in no way “evil or harmful”.

However, in today’s reporting all these nuances are either too complex for the media reporters and editors, or they are using ‘collusion’ with the unspoken objective to meld both parts of the definition in the minds of their lightly read minions – in short, they’re promoting an agenda.

But to reasonably allege criminal intent as part of any collusion calls for establishing the so-called MOM – motive, opportunity, means – requirements.  The alleged motive part for either side is easy enough to understand; they wanted to win the election.  However, neither the opportunity nor the means parts are addressed in today’s breathless media reporting.  Making the case for ‘evil or harmful intent’ to collude must involve some description of the means for the parties ‘acting together’ to execute a ‘secret understanding’, neither of which have been described within any plausible scenario that would have had any reasonable basis for a measurable effect on the election.  So all we hear today is reporters and talking heads blithely telling us about X or Y colluding with Russia to accomplish what?  Nothing in these reports and subsequent blather make the case beyond use of the word ‘collusion’ – no description of means and/or opportunity scenarios are included.  All these reports and ‘analyses’ simply leave the rest of the considerable blanks to be filled in by carefully fashioned imaginations of the great unwashed.

The Republicans have an easier job of demonstrating the two-part definition of Democrats colluding, because the MOM requirements for the uranium deal, Clinton Foundation corrupt contributions, Hillary’s email transgressions, the manufactured Steele dossier, and the DNC screwing one of its candidates are all a matter of record, no doubt, with much more to come.

But to date, the nation’s Left is doing its best to delude Americans about Team Trump having criminally colluded with the Russians – no evidence for such collusions has yet to be presented, and that definitely includes the indictments and confession of the first trio that got tangled in Mueller’s widely cast net.  No doubt more are to come, but in the interval the astute reader should (1) discriminate between empty allegations and substance when ‘collusion’ is part of the report, and should there be substance, then (2) determine if the discovered substance is actually a criminal collusion tied to Team Trump.

[5nov17 update]  On the WSJ Editorial Report yesterday, I was happy to see that former federal judge Michael Mukasey (also Attorney General under Bush2) agrees with my above analysis of the collusion confusion.  In sum, collusion per se is not against any law, and specifically Mueller’s “collusion against the United States” does not exist as a crime under US Code or in the Constitution.  The empty charge against Manafort and Gates was just thrown in there for political purposes to convince inattentive minds of a connection to the Trump campaign.

    Dr. Rebane.
The collusion topic you wrote about; Folks on the Left, Right, and ’non-affiliated” toss about the word “collusion” like it is synomous with “Conspiracy”. Heck, I bet here is not even a law on the books that probits any political campaign from working with a foreign entity. Might be legal or not even is illegal.
On some of this stuff mentioned about Manafort, the statues of limitations has done expired. What a bunch of ignoramuses. Now what is this about mo eh laundering g? money laundering to occur, the source of the money has to be derived from a criminalactivity. Far as I know, there had been no allegations that the accused had been involved with foreign criminal enterprises. IRS stuff. Don’t forget to register and declared that income.
And what’s up with George P getting probation for his dastardly crime? So, all hopes are pinned on George P. to spill the beans and have Trump finally removed from office?from office as the mob runshis rear end out of DC? ROFLMAO. Boy, the insane Leftys get their hopes sky high rocketed by a pocket full of promises, only to come crashing down to Earth face first and all prostrate like of our fakenews imbecile…er….like our buddy Wile E. Coyote. Puff of smoke on the desert floor is the final result of all their exuberant wishful thinking. You would have thunk they learned a least something from the 2016 election, but noooooo.
What we have so far is standard Fed cases you see tried day in and day out by any number of Federal prosecutors from coast to coast. Gee, we needed a Special Prosecutor for that? Hey, wasn’t Mueller the FBI boss when Paul M’s dastardly deeds were taking place?Followed by Comey. And all this going on under the nose of Eric Holder, then Loretta Lynch. Guess they were sleeping on the job on doing the belly bump on some tarmac in Arizona.
Man, the deepest darkest dankest places of the abyss is where the psychotics go to try to cancel out the results of the last election. They have conspired and have come up with some, at face value, rather far fetched devious plans to nullify reality. They are friggin’ insane.
The entire indictment does not mention Donald J. Trump. Truly the Buttercups gather in a big round yurt and try to figure out how to piss In the corner. “This time it will be different, we got Trump now”. Puff. Lucy will keep her word this time and hold the football for Charlie Brown, Wile E. coyote will finally catch the Roadrunner, and Trump will be banished from the land. Ok, whatever they say.

The end is near for Sessions. Says now I remember. The Greek Guy is the Howard Hunt of Russiagate. wore a wire. Wonder who he recorded. Big fun. Delights me immensely.
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions reportedly now admits that he was aware of George Papadopoulos’s efforts to arrange meetings between the Trump campaign and Russia — a seemingly direct contradiction of sworn testimony he gave to the Senate.
Sources tell NBC News that Sessions now remembers rejecting a proposal by Papadopoulos to set up a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. NBC News reporter Ken Dilanian, appearing on MSNBC Thursday afternoon, explained that this was significant because “he testified under oath that he was aware of no discussions with Russians, at least concerning collusion in the election.”

Poor Sessions. He suddenly remembers this He’ll soon be looking for an exit. He’s pretty much nailed on this one
“While both Trump and Sessions have repeatedly insisted there has been no collusion with the Russian government, Sessions has pledged this argument under oath. Sessions also led the foreign policy team of which Papadopoulos was part.
“I have never met with or had any conversation with any Russians or any foreign officials concerning any type of interference with any campaign or election in the United States,” Sessions told the Senate Intelligence Committee in the opening statement of his second testimony on June 13. “Further, I have no knowledge of any such conversations by anyone connected to the Trump campaign.”
If the Justice Department affidavit is true, and Sessions was in the room at the time Papadopoulos explained he wanted to arrange a meeting between Trump and Putin, there could potentially be a perjury case.”

Here is the allegation. Pure poppycock Paul Emery. There are no dots to connect.
“Franken included his questions in a scathing letter to Sessions after court documents unsealed Monday revealed that President Donald Trump’s former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos in March 2016 floated the idea of setting up a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to several reports, Sessions was present at the meeting when Papadopoulos made the suggestion, though Sessions previously denied being aware of any communications between members of Trump’s campaign and the Russian government. Papadopoulos claimed he had “connections” that could help arrange the meeting between Trump and Putin.”

What I read from this is that Papa lied to the FBI that he had contacts to Russia. He had none. And announcing it in a room of people who knew he had none does not mean anything other than a “name dropper” tried to make some hay. All BS. But hey, if it floats your yacht and makes you feel like Sam Spade, go for it.

Connecting the dots on Sessions seems beyond any stretch stretch of logic. How does rejecting a meeting with doubtful Russians suggested by a junior wannabe constitute anything prosecutable about collusion with Russians?? But that makes no nevermind to the lamestream trumpets who play to a terminally innumerate audience.

On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow took the U.S. State Department to task for releasing a completely false statement about where a picture of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was taken.
A photo claimed to show Tillerson meeting with President Ashraf Ghani of Aghanistan in Kabul. He was actually on a U.S. military base.
“The State Department initially tried to get away with saying that this meeting between Rex Tillerson on the left and Ashraf Ghani on the right, took place in the capital city of Kabul,” Maddow said. “It did not. They did not meet in Kabul. They met, rather, inside the perimeter of a U.S. military base at Bagram.”
In a particularly weird twist, the Afghan government digitally manipulated a copy of the photo it disseminated to remove a clock that revealed the location to be an American military base.
The State Department issued a correction on Twitter, admitting that Tillerson did not meet with the president in Kabul as it initially claimed.

    1) Best quote of the day yesterday. So much packed into so few words. Excellent analysis, excellent getting to the real gist of the thread. Kudos, Mr. Fish.

    2) Second best quote for the day yesterday. Yes, it is on the topic of Mueller Mining the Russian Collusion Confusion, an excellent title in and of itself.
Now, to the gist of the matter. The rest is just peripheral matters.
“Sorry, fellas. The 2016 election was the culmination, not the beginning, of a Democratic implosion.” John Podhoretz.
    ——————————
    3) Last minute additions for the road: Collusion!!!!!
Memo to Hillary: Be careful what you wish for… “[Trump] has to know — we’ll find out what he knew and how involved he was — but he had to know that people were making outreach to Russians, to the highest levels of the Kremlin in order to help him, to hurt me, but more importantly to sow this divisiveness.” —Hillary Clinton
Hmm. So, are you saying Hillary did not know her own campaign funded the Russian dossier? Tell me again what a wise President she would have been.

    Update to Collusion.
My Gal, disparagingly called Madame Liar Liar Pantsuit on Fire, has gone from calling her involvement with the Russian dossier that Mueller is investigating as “baloney”, to not knowing having anything to do with it, to “yep, I am proud to have done it.”
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5042027/Hillary-Clinton-DEFENDS-paying-Steele-dossier-Trump.html
The dossier is important because apart from Trump’s rambunctious hookers peeing on the bed Obama and Michelle slept on. the dossier claims that Trump secretly was given Russian intel for the EIGHT years prior to the US election. That is worth looking into. May not be illegal to get Russian Intelligence briefings, but Mueller will tell us if that dossier was true or a waste of the millions paid for it. Obama’s organization itself paid a cool million to keep funding the “dossier.”
    Time will tell.

Circle the wagons. The Dossier. Yes, link was published before the indictments of Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates, but it is a nice review. Everything Punchy believes rests on the dossier. Everything.
1). Virtually everything in the dossier was “Information” fed to Steele by Russians. They would say anything for a buck and are still the masters of Propaganda and Disinformation. All spoon fed from the Russians who received payment.
    2) The Dems have put all their eggs in one basket. The entire Putin-Trump collusion theory rests on this one report.
3), AND MOST IMPORTANT: In a filing mostly ignored by the pro-dossier U.S. and British media, Mr. Steele acknowledged in a declaration that he never verified the information. He also said his work never should have been made public, as was done by the news website BuzzFeed, which posted the entire document in January.
