RobertC 730pm – Au contraire Mr Cross. The man was elected first and foremost on the basis of the values and expertise he evinced during his career and campaign. No politician we respect plans his actions on the basis of digesting the morning polls – in fact, we loathe such excuses for elected office. Mike Pence was elected for who he is, and he happens to be someone in this case who also represents the sentiments of more than half of the country. It was extremely important that he showed up to represent me and mine at that game as a challenge to the players to find some other way to protest their sensed injustices other than disrespecting our national anthem at public event sponsored by our private sector.
If that was, according to our lamestream leftwingers, a “stunt”, then every elected’s showing the flag at openings, launches, ribbon cuttings, classrooms for the disabled, parades, funerals, … is equally a stunt. And in the final analysis, your stunt is not necessarily my stunt, and vice versa.
But rejoice, you and yours enjoyed eight years of what the rest of us considered as some pretty crass and costly stunts (from which we are still recovering) performed by former President Obama.

Is that what it was about? It’s unclear that, by this past weekend, it wasn’t also just a big FU to the winners of the last election. It’s also unclear why “police relations in black communities” should be taken out on the Star Spangled Banner at the beginning of a televised football game.
No, there’s no requirement for anyone to “take it like a man”. Walking out is a perfectly reasonable statement and Pence does retain his 1st Amendment rights, too.

There’s a difference Crossman… those were attempts to enforce the LAW about burning or otherwise defacing the flag. Imposing a fine, imposing an adult time out in the hoosegow. I remember Robert “B-1 Bob” livid that the Supremes said that, in order to enforce one particular statute would require it to be an incitement to riot… and Dornan told everyone “that means we need to riot when someone is burning the flag” or something close.
That was probably not the takeaway message the SCOTUS was trying to convey but I recall thinking Dornan had a point.
I think turning off the TV or leaving the stadium is a perfectly appropriate alternative to rioting, don’t you, Cross?
