Comey is fired, and as pundits on both sides are now discovering that it was for the reasons apparent to (almost) all of us on RR last July (here, here, and here for openers).  Those who still think the dismissal of this well-dressed doofus will affect ongoing FBI investigations are just whistling past the graveyard.

‘To Set Prices, Stores Turn to Algorithms’ (9may17 WSJ)  Well, no sh!t Red Ryder.  Another belated and breathless discovery by under-educated journalists (and editors).

‘A Philosopher gets Pilloried’ reports on Professor Rebecca Tuvel being attacked by her ultra-left colleagues in academia for daring to generalize inquiries based on accepted specific questions such as “why society is increasingly willing to embrace people who identify as “transgender,” even as it rejects those who identify as “transracial.” Why laud Caitlyn Jenner while vilifying Rachel Dolezal ?”  Read the article to see the next level of what may only be called rabid insanity that lies at the heart of the attack she is currently under.  Jillian Kay Melchior of Heat Street notes that “it’s her opponents on the progressive left that this saga should really frighten. Their reaction suggests their ideas can’t withstand even the most basic critical scrutiny. Such fragile principles (of the Left) aren’t persuasive or enduring.”

[update]  The Canning of Comey Cauldron boils over.  Liberals, nationally and in these pages, have again evoked their ‘gruberized American voter’ audience for which they are playing all versions of ‘Comey was fired to stop the FBI from discovering dirt on Trump’.  You really have to believe that the electorate is stupid to float that one since Comey was not a material participant in or contributor to the FBI’s ongoing investigations, merely the politically clumsy head of the bureau who couldn’t keep his foot out of his mouth.  That both Republican and Democrat MoCs demand the continuance of these investigations has settled the matter in the minds of the more discerning.  But that makes no never mind to leftwing worthies ranging from Chuck Schumer to some of our own commenters – the national Dump Trump chorus must not skip a beat.

Pot Panel Lists to Port.  The county’s panel to recommend its new marijuana ordnance was completed by the Supes yesterday.  Republican Chairman Bob Hren and other conservatives pointed out the obvious list of the 14 originally accepted panelists that included nary a person from the Right.  In response, the BoS decided to appoint two more to the panel, one of whom is Mr Don Bessee, Executive Director of the Northern California chapter of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, RR reader, and frequent commenter in these pages.  We hope that Mr Bessee will keep RR readers up to date with the panel’s doings, and maybe even contribute a byline commentary now and then on his views about the arrival of legalized RMJ in Nevada County.  (more here)

‘The Left’s War on Free Speech’ has a long history which is neatly summarized by WSJ editorial board member and national columnist Kim Strassel.  It is published in the April 2017 Imprimis of Hillsdale College where she spoke earlier this year.  There Ms Strassel not only highlights the tremendous damage that the Left is doing to our national wellbeing with their vitriolic and often violent opposition to free speech in our public forums, but also provides some important remedies still available to those Americans who hold our Constitution dear.

[11may17 update]  NPR is prominent among the lamestream outlets in keeping up the now obligatory daily Trash Trump narrative of progressive politics.  This morning it did a thorough job in reporting on another Republican MoC’s townhall, this one in New Jersey.  The audio recorded the totally one-sided comments by the audience marbled with the loud boos, shouts, and hisses from the audience that drowned out the congressman’s words.  The NPR correspondent’s copy again represented the gathering as comprised of a typical cross section of America, instead of a hall packed full of carefully selected, organized, imported (as needed), and ideologically homogeneous crowd of leftwingers.  The beat goes on.

We all know why the Dems are screaming for special prosecutors for every imaginable investigation that may involve President Trump, don’t we?  What better taxpayer funded circus to continue dunning the administration as operating under the shadow of potential criminality while diverting America’s attention to what the Republicans actually accomplish between now and the 2018 elections?

RR has long advised its readers that the ACLU is a leftwing institutional mouthpiece.  With the current post-election rabid radicalization of what is now the Alt-Left, ACLU has compliantly shifted its public stance to where it is unabashedly the voice of progressivism.  This shift is described in the most delicate of terms by Wendy Kaminer and Alan Dershowitz, two of ACLU’s former board members, in their ‘Where’s the ACLU When You Need It?’  There we read how “its new guard reflects the left’s turn against liberal values and toward progressive politics.”  Of course, the grassroots progressives know nothing of this as also confirmed by the outpourings from our own local liberal leftwingers.

Merrick Garland as the new FBI Director, so suggests Sen Mike Lee (R-UT).  What a great idea.  As a former federal prosecutor, the man is very qualified for the job.  And his nomination by President Trump should either quiet the Left’s narrative that he’s trying to monkey with FBI’s investigations, or put an enjoyable twist in their knickers to see how they will then attempt to continue that line of propaganda and fake news releases (e.g. Comey asking for more resources for Russia investigation which were denied).  In any event, Judge Garland’s nomination should put a cork into the demands for special prosecutors.  It would be hard for Team Chuckie to deny the professionalism and objectivity of Obama’s candidate for SCOTUS and oppose his confirmation.

[14may17 update]  Garland for FBI Director gains momentum.  Now Senate majority leader McConnell is picking up on Judge Garland nomination (here).

That was your trashy development in Glenbrook that was dumped by the Republican Supervisors at the time because it was so poorly planned and had no bus access for kids. “Remember Glenbrook” was our slogan for the two Peter Van Zant campaigns that led us to victory in 1996 and 2000, Never got around to thanking you Todd so I’ll do it now that you’ve reminded me.

In the meantime for your reading pleasure Trump has dropped to an all time low, for himself in the RCP consensus polls to – 13.2 %. This achievement took Bush years to attain and is similar to Nixon before his famous “I am not a crook” speech. The latest foaming from the Trump mouth will no doubt drop his ratings even more.

PaulE 1016am – with the MSM anti-Trump range at its current zenith (e.g. WaPo article on Trump’s release of secrets to Russians), and the demonstrated recent unreliability of polls to predict anything, and the wide spectrum of Trump poll results, how are we trust any of the polls let alone an aggregate composite of them? It seems that given your record of predictions based on poll citations last year, you might be the most suspicious of us all. Does hope really spring eternal?

What the polls show are trends and the consensus polls show a remarkable decline in support for Trump. The polls during the elections were actually quite accurate showing Clinton with a 2-3% lead in the popular vote day of the election. Of course Trump won the electorial vote so we don’t need to go there.
To put some numbers to it the RCP average poll-which is an average of around 14 national polls showed Clinton with a 3.2 % lead on election day. the final election numbers were Clinton 2.1 well within a reasonable margin of error. With that in mind how do you come to the assumption that the polls “demonstrated recent unreliability of polls to predict anything, ” ?

Poll Derangement Syndrome strikes again. Guess they haven’t recovered from the big surprise on Nov 8 when Fox declared Pennsyvania, then hours later MSM did. Hope burns eternal. Had to be a mistake. Who can forget Wisconsin, Florida, Ohio, and Michigan falling like Grant took Richmond. All those victory parties, usually starting when the Dems take FLA and the race is over in 20 minutes. What, My Gal (the most qualified canidate in US history) did not bother to have a prewritten concession speech? Well, some folks just don’t take kindly to having egg all over their faces. Created quite the egg shortage, not to mention the run on crow that was to be eaten between two slices of organic bread. Who can forget the fakenews folks saying, “While I appreciate your passion Bill, Trump has no chance of winning. Zero, zilch, nada, none.. Put a fork in it….toast, DOA, pushing up daisies with a step ladder…..no way Trump can get to 270, just no possible way. Done deal, time we Deplorables regroup.
Yo, Trump could have lost FLA and still got to 270. Boy, I kinda wish now that Trump did lose FLA just so MSM could declare the race for My Gal and we all could have gone to bed early. That would have put the icing on the cake for certain.
Not a good strategy to do the rope-a-dope so your opponent can wear himself out wailing on yer head and beating the stew out of you. Boom boom, out goes the lights. Looked like a great idea on paper. Demographics and all that stuff.

Paul, did you ever find that WaPo poll a month ago that showed Trump keeping most of his voters but hill losing enough of hers for Trump/Pence to keep November’s electoral result and gaining a 43-40 margin in the popular vote?
While I’d be happy to join in the Trump stonings, for me it would take more than the anonymous innuendo we’ve been served. The press and the dnc have been doing their damndest to put their designated pied piper set in motion (perhaps the only bona fide favor to the USA by wikileaks was releasing the Podesta emails) by the Hillary campaign back to the shadows.
My expectations are that we’ll be better of with Trump than we’d have been with Hillary and her practiced kleptocratic, Machiavellian ways if and only if the regressive Progressive democratic socialist left can refrain from destroying the villages to save them for themselves.
No, angry tantrums won’t be enough. At some point if all that is found as the source of the smoke are media and other DNC toadies, 2018 and beyond will not reverse the political fortunes or keep their margins in California and a few other states facing fiscal oblivion over unfunded liabilities and crumbling infrastructure.

trump may not be coming back from his overseas trip. This just broke:
WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo that Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.
“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

Do not confuse an aggregate average with how the individual polls performed. If the correct answer is 50 and the individual responses were 25 and 75, then you’d be celebrating those woeful responders whose average performance was on the mark.

Oh Don, the final polls were accurate. They told us Trump won. If the polls were accurate, then the thousands of reports by the fakenews types was wildly inaccurate…or as you might say, “willful suppression of uncomfortable facts to maintain self respect.” Respect is earned, not given. Perhaps we can give an inch as say we can agree the reporting, analysis, and vocalizing of the polls by the fakenews people missed by a mile. Heck, if they mangled those accurate polls so much, I don’t see why we just don’t have high school interns run the news director department. Might be a big improvement. Strike that. Love the fakenews cycles. Trump gave the Russians classified information! That died as soon as it was revealed that Trump did not have the Classified codes with him when he gave them to the Russians. I remember Russia gave us warnings concerning those sweet Muslim refugees known as the Boston Bombers, but we dismissed their warnings. Then the NYT (not the WH) outs Israel as “the source/target of a big scandal. Trump trashes Israel, treats our allies terribly!! He is insane. Er, Israel says they will be working closer with Trump now than ever before. That one will die quietly. Trump told Comey to lay off the investigation into Flynn….in February. Trump is interfering with an investigation. Impeach him! Er, nevermind Comey testified just last week that Trump has not interfered in any way with any Russian investigation. Last week no less, not to mention the secret memo from last February was leaked to the Fakenews folks by friends of Comey. You know Comey and his close family ties to Hillary and Friends of Bill. This will die down and our fakenews folk will move on to something else by tomorrow. Opps, now they say the Flynn investigation is separate than the Russian collusion investigation. Different thang entirely. Silly me, I thought that was part of the Trump-Putin collusion to take down the Coronated Hillary. It was her turn afterall
Well, the breaking news comes with a bang and goes out with a whimper, but the agenda remains the same. The agenda is nothing short of a coup of the Trump Administration by the Fakenews Alt-Left MSM. And the Dems will be screaming for another fishing expedition (special prosecutor) because they have not seen any evidence so far. It’s out there, they just know it. Maybe collusion is hidden in Trump’s tax returns or maybe it’s hidden deeply where the sun don’t shine up Fakenews lackies’ flat behinds. When asked what crimes have been committed, they answer no crimes have been committed. I love information leaked to the NYT and Washington Compost.

Paul, so, it’s your spidey sense as a federally supported (about one out of 5 dollars) radio newsman that “I hope you can let this go” is a criminal action?
No quid pro quo? No threats? And apparently an affirmation that Trump himself is not under investigation? And no actual evidence that Trump actually tried to pull strings to get the thing stopped?
In Paul’s World, how do those ethics compare to the Bill Clinton having a very private meeting with Comey’s boss as decisions are being made about Hillary Clinton?
Paul, the actual words really are important and if they aren’t, what you are really pining for is a benevolent dictatorship where your mythical “green libertarians” or progressive social justice warriors could just convene and decide what’s right without all that bother of writing legislation or amending Federal or state constitutions by the folks we elect to get agreements as to what is just and proper, ahead of time. Not by a drumhead trial by tribunal.

The popularity vote is what really matters. Just look at Nov. 10th, the dreaded morning after. Hillary won the popular vote, so let’s get rid of the Electroal College like yesterday! We need a recount. Jill Stein could have won WI or Michigan. The polls had her pushing 2%, not a measly1%. Recount!
BTW, it was the head of the NSA that said TODAY that Trump did not have or had seen the classified ISIS Intel he just shared with the Russians. And thanks to our beloved beacon of truth, justice, and the American way….aka, the New York Times, we all know now as well as our enemies that our secret Intel is coming from our alley Israel. You know Israel. It’s that tiny country that Trump is crapping on. That’s enough to impeach the bastard in and of itself. But I digress.
