A couple of days have passed since President Trump’s speech to Congress, so you’d think some of the dust would start to settle – not a chance. The Left did not hear even a semblance of the speech the rest of us did. The Alt-Left is now firmly in charge of the Democratic Party, and it turns out that this is the direction that they have wanted to go for at least a generation, or perhaps since the American Socialist Party folded its tent in 1946 with the statement that the Democrats had subsumed all of their political goals so they might as well join forces both de facto and de juris.
The Dem’s strategy is to give the middle finger to everything that the congressional leadership brings up during the next four, and more likely, the next eight years. As many observers across this land (including RR readers) point out, the Dems will spend their time and energies looking for scapegoats to blame for their November rout, and pay scant attention to the actual reasons for their loss, i.e. the existential mood and will of the American electorate. From a political perspective this is a godsend for Republicans; all they need to do from here forward is keep making real Trump’s campaign promises, and go on pushing the Left’s hot buttons so that they will continue demonstrating their dearth of ideas for improving the lives of our citizens. I think that stoking ‘the Russians did it’ investigations at some background level ad nauseam is an excellent tactic for Republicans, because it will distract the Dems from looking in the mirror while keeping their Alt-Left extremists, the ones not yet ready for polite company, in the public eye as they contend for party leadership.
What warms the cockles of my conservetarian heart is how our leftistas continue to cite polling results, as they did before the election, to keep up their spirits. If that is the measure of success that communicates the correctness of their rabid anti-Trump policy, then again nothing could be finer for the Republicans. But all of these political pyrotechnics are just symptomatic to the real message delivered by the Left.
Trump’s ascendancy has removed any remaining doubts as to what kind of Americans are our progressives, and what kind of America they are busy building. The last thing that our Left promotes is an America as a strong, independent, and sovereign nation-state that puts the interests of its citizens first. When you look at what they value – e.g. how they deported themselves during the various phases of Trump’s speech – and what are their measures of our country’s success, the clear conclusion is that we cannot be further apart. Just to make a point I challenge readers to reveal any commonality between us that goes beyond breathing the same air and walking upright.
For example, one of our local leftistas recently wrote “the Democratic Party is being led by progressives and is united across progressive causes at the grass roots level”, and that “progressive causes in America are seeing support like never before. … People who have never before been engaged in politics or political action are coming together to oppose the Republican Party and its extremist (sic) agenda.” Now it is clear that this is an estranged view of the Democrats’ current status, one that is nowhere shared within the desperate inner workings of the party itself. It is literally the equivalent of whistling past the graveyard. The election results and Trump’s campaign promises notwithstanding, it is hard to see the source of such optimism.
From my perch it looks as if the recent election was the most fortunate of events for all – everyone walked away in a celebratory mood if we listen to the talking heads on such lamestream outlets as CNN and MSNBC (and some RR commenters). This is a mood that should be promoted as Republicans double down to pass the Trump campaign agenda starting with healthcare, regulatory reduction, and tax reform as the engines of a renewed economy. The worst thing the Right can do is sit back sanguine to watch the socialists stew in their own juices. We must always remember that the socialists have a simple and powerful message to buy the loyalty of the pre-educated – ‘we will claw back and return the money the rich have stolen from you.’ (less, of course, the amount required for shipping and handling).
Added to all this we have the former president now acting as the rallying point for the dump Trump movement as he organizes the Alt-Left grass roots to become his disruptor divisions across the land. This diabolically twisted behavior is an historical first and has yet to play itself out, especially in light of the Democratic Party having installed a coalition leadership with no plan forward.
The bottom line is that all on the Left believe in their heart of hearts that Trump’s agenda, insofar that it re-establishes a globally powerful and economically strong America, one that provides fulfilling jobs for all who want to work, must be defeated because it is based on the proposition of responsible capitalism to organize wealth creation and distribution in a society of free, responsible, and self-reliant individuals. This is diametrically opposite the socialists’ prescription for society as a centrally controlled collective in which individuals meld into compliant and cohesive amalgams of cooperative correct thinkers. If Trump succeeds then the result will be as succinctly summarized by President Reagan– ‘We win, they lose.’ In America their loss will be multi-generational and, given the advent of the Singularity, perhaps forever.

[7mar17 update] The anti-Trump hysteria on the left has reached a new and distinct high. Two leading lamestream rags have unabashedly published 'how to' articles on means to remove Trump without going through an impeachment process. Both the NYT (here) and Time magazine (here) appear to be on the forefront of this new approach to bring down this presidency. Again, this is historically unprecedented but totally understandable – Trump cannot be allowed to succeed, and now must be brought down by whatever method works.
