A couple of days have passed since President Trump’s speech to Congress, so you’d think some of the dust would start to settle – not a chance.  The Left did not hear even a semblance of the speech the rest of us did.   The Alt-Left is now firmly in charge of the Democratic Party, and it turns out that this is the direction that they have wanted to go for at least a generation, or perhaps since the American Socialist Party folded its tent in 1946 with the statement that the Democrats had subsumed all of their political goals so they might as well join forces both de facto and de juris.

The Dem’s strategy is to give the middle finger to everything that the congressional leadership brings up during the next four, and more likely, the next eight years.  As many observers across this land (including RR readers) point out, the Dems will spend their time and energies looking for scapegoats to blame for their November rout, and pay scant attention to the actual reasons for their loss, i.e. the existential mood and will of the American electorate.  From a political perspective this is a godsend for Republicans; all they need to do from here forward is keep making real Trump’s campaign promises, and go on pushing the Left’s hot buttons so that they will continue demonstrating their dearth of ideas for improving the lives of our citizens.  I think that stoking ‘the Russians did it’ investigations at some background level ad nauseam is an excellent tactic for Republicans, because it will distract the Dems from looking in the mirror while keeping their Alt-Left extremists, the ones not yet ready for polite company, in the public eye as they contend for party leadership.

What warms the cockles of my conservetarian heart is how our leftistas continue to cite polling results, as they did before the election, to keep up their spirits.  If that is the measure of success that communicates the correctness of their rabid anti-Trump policy, then again nothing could be finer for the Republicans.  But all of these political pyrotechnics are just symptomatic to the real message delivered by the Left.

Trump’s ascendancy has removed any remaining doubts as to what kind of Americans are our progressives, and what kind of America they are busy building.  The last thing that our Left promotes is an America as a strong, independent, and sovereign nation-state that puts the interests of its citizens first.  When you look at what they value – e.g. how they deported themselves during the various phases of Trump’s speech – and what are their measures of our country’s success, the clear conclusion is that we cannot be further apart. Just to make a point I challenge readers to reveal any commonality between us that goes beyond breathing the same air and walking upright.

For example, one of our local leftistas recently wrote “the Democratic Party is being led by progressives and is united across progressive causes at the grass roots level”, and that “progressive causes in America are seeing support like never before. … People who have never before been engaged in politics or political action are coming together to oppose the Republican Party and its extremist (sic) agenda.”  Now it is clear that this is an estranged view of the Democrats’ current status, one that is nowhere shared within the desperate inner workings of the party itself.  It is literally the equivalent of whistling past the graveyard.  The election results and Trump’s campaign promises notwithstanding, it is hard to see the source of such optimism.

From my perch it looks as if the recent election was the most fortunate of events for all – everyone walked away in a celebratory mood if we listen to the talking heads on such lamestream outlets as CNN and MSNBC (and some RR commenters).  This is a mood that should be promoted as Republicans double down to pass the Trump campaign agenda starting with healthcare, regulatory reduction, and tax reform as the engines of a renewed economy.  The worst thing the Right can do is sit back sanguine to watch the socialists stew in their own juices.  We must always remember that the socialists have a simple and powerful message to buy the loyalty of the pre-educated – ‘we will claw back and return the money the rich have stolen from you.’  (less, of course, the amount required for shipping and handling).

Added to all this we have the former president now acting as the rallying point for the dump Trump movement as he organizes the Alt-Left grass roots to become his disruptor divisions across the land.  This diabolically twisted behavior is an historical first and has yet to play itself out, especially in light of the Democratic Party having installed a coalition leadership with no plan forward.

The bottom line is that all on the Left believe in their heart of hearts that Trump’s agenda, insofar that it re-establishes a globally powerful and economically strong America, one that provides fulfilling jobs for all who want to work, must be defeated because it is based on the proposition of responsible capitalism to organize wealth creation and distribution in a society of free, responsible, and self-reliant individuals.  This is diametrically opposite the socialists’ prescription for society as a centrally controlled collective in which individuals meld into compliant and cohesive amalgams of cooperative correct thinkers.  If Trump succeeds then the result will be as succinctly summarized by President Reagan– ‘We win, they lose.’  In America their loss will be multi-generational and, given the advent of the Singularity, perhaps forever.

Note to readers: Please collect your comments below about the progress/survival of bipartisanship under the Trump administration.

[7mar17 update]  The anti-Trump hysteria on the left has reached a new and distinct high.  Two leading lamestream rags have unabashedly published 'how to' articles on means to remove Trump without going through an impeachment process.  Both the NYT (here) and Time magazine (here) appear to be on the forefront of this new approach to bring down this presidency.  Again, this is historically unprecedented but totally understandable – Trump cannot be allowed to succeed, and now must be brought down by whatever method works.

Remember, Obama was the most effective gun salesman in history. He will be the most effective salesman for Trump 2020 that Trump could ever create on his own. As Obama beats the progressive drum, people will recall the last eight years of a stifled economy, increasing distrust between classes, a one world vision promoting Agenda 21 and climate change and they will realize how much better off they are under a Trump Presidency. The greatest gun salesman in history will become the greatest Trump salesman in history! Mark the tape.

Excellent article. I am happy that people like Paul Emery and BradC and the other alt-left blogs of the county and country are spewing their crapola. Americans are a fair-minded people. They here these over the top people like Schumer and Pelosi and the Senator Al Frankenstein and shake their heads in disbelief. I have been in communication with people that want to boot Pelosi and put a moderate in her place. I have never worked for a democrat but this may be my only “bi-partisan” endevor.
The Sessions issue is really a fine example of the Alt-Left’s hysterical outlook. It shows Americans how desperate they are along with their lapdogs the lamesstreams. I look forward to many tears of conservative power.

For the political junkies who really digest the trends and poll details there is no ambiguity. The independent middle (that’s not you poor ol’ PE) are for the President and are even more solid in support of the goals now.
The melt down hysteria of the socialist left in SF, NYC, NC etc. will remain unabated in their pandering to the loudest thugs. The rest of the America will find their voices eventually. The domestic violence victims and all victims need our support to find their voice to tell their uncomfortable truths.
God bless our military and First responders. 😉

It all sounds good, until you remember that the Rs had a great opportunity a few years ago to figure this out and they completely pissed away their chance. They seem to be repeating the scenario again. I realize undoing ObamaCare is daunting. It’s tentacles are woven into so many different parts of our govt and society, a very careful surgical procedure will be needed to rid ourselves of it and yet not cause great financial pain to many who are only trying to follow the law. I also realize most Americans still receive most or all of their news from organizations that have dedicated themselves to bringing down the current admin at all costs. It would be helpful if Trump conducted a weekly series explaining some harsh realities of what we as a country face. No politician wants to be the bearer of bad news, but the fact remains that our country is up a creek with no paddle and the canoe is leaking like a sieve. Yes, other countries are worse off, but we need to have some reality instilled on our nation if we are to better ourselves. Frankly, I don’t see anyone in the national spotlight willing to step up and tell it like it is. It can be done with out causing panic and a run on the banks and all of that. But it needs to be done.
A recent poll showed 1/2 of all college kiddies thinking magically that their educational debt would be erased. Even if the poll is off by 20%, it augers poorly for our nation that the best and brightest are that stupid. Or that it will be erased and our nation is that stupid.
I’m not real confident of this country pulling out of the mud despite having a president that will try his best to build us up. I’m not a person that gets excited about whomever is in whatever office.
I just look around and think about the percentage of citizens that can produce real value when the chips are down and the percentage that will just go berserk if the power doesn’t come on in the morning and the local coffee kiosk isn’t open. Let’s just hope that proverbial can is able to withstand the beating it will need to take for its continuing trip down the yellow brick road.

SO, it wasn’t magical thinking that drove the young whose reach for the collegiate brass ring sent them into a massive debt, it was the Clinton and Sanders campaign.
It really is a tragedy… kids blowing the house they might have bought to put their kids in someday on 8 years of Disgruntled Studies because of colleges and their government allowing them to be taken to the cleaners. Can’t even be discharged by a bankruptcy court.
Regarding that quaint concept of “bipartisanship”, not while the barbarian horde are making it clear they will be punished. Van Jones, one of the most impeccably credentialed leftists in the country was REAMED for his opinion that the speech was emotionally moving and Presidential, and if if Trump can repeat that connection to people he will be in office for 8 years.
Maybe. But it’s at least clear Jones isn’t a hater, and that is good to see. A GOP (Limbaugh?) definition of bipartisanship is that it’s when the GOP caves in to DEM demands… with the DEMS at their lowest point since the Roaring 20’s, there probably won’t be much of that in the next two years and maybe even less afterwards.

Gregory – correct re the major source of their idea of debt erasure. But the poll was taken after the election. Sanders and Clinton did not win the election. Hence – there is no rational reason to assume this nation will just tear up their debt. No rational reason = magical thinking. Which is not to say that some states may yet offer a version of this lunacy.
Bipartisan action re this issue is hopeless. The Dems will always outbid the Rs as to how much of other peoples’ money they will throw at it.
Student debt is the worse kind of debt as it probably funded a worthless piece of paper that will never lead to a career that can pay off the debt.

Just idly musing about the current cost of colleges –
I spent a bit of time looking up current tuition at state universities. Oddly, in a lot of cases the amount was roughly equal to the average student financial aid amount. It occurred to me that a nice side effect of this is that you can steer favored students and groups into college since the gating factor is aid, which can be handed out as desired. So, you make college impossibly expensive, and then make it free (or deferred cost) to people you like.
Also, I wonder how much tutoring a person could buy for the cost of a year of school. This assumes that education rather than certification is the point of a course of study.
A variant on the value proposition of universities might be seen by watching an Ivy League lecture on youtube. A single hour of class, which might contain the content of a single magazine article (especially in the case of softer subjects), probably costs $500. It’s an odd thing.

Certification is the primary goal…..the ticket required to get past the first HR gate!
Plenty out there available for legitimate educational enrichment….Khan Academy, MIT has a wide selection of its lectures available as does Harvard, Stanford etc.

    Re, higher education.
Funny that no one talks about universities reducing their costs. Massive outrageous costs of building projects across campuses across our land are passed on to the students who pay the tuition, as one example. Harvard can pay professors like Spreading Bull 330-400k/year for teaching one lousy course. No problem with that since they are a private institution and can charge what the market will bear. Still, there is little to nil discussion on what colleges do to reduce their costs.
With scholarships from private entities, Stanford is cheaper to attend than Cal for numerous bright students.
The student loan program got swallowed up in Obamacare, with the interest earned going to keep Obamacare afloat. Now, the federal student loan program (with defaults) faces the largest single credit write off on any program in US history.
If we want to make college more affordable, giving the students a blank credit card is a shell game.

Interesting. However, after a lifetime of study, learning and observation I think most college education is a waste of time and money. But it does pump up the ego in many graduates who look down their noses at the “deplorables” who make America prosperous. Many times you’ll hear someone brag about having a college PHD. One ambitious lady I know was asked if she knew what it meant. She replied…”piled higher and deeper!”
I remember when there were many trade schools ambitious individuals could attend to learn what they needed to know in a relatively short time at reasonable cost. Professions that are needed. And a working individual could attend night classes.
Anyway, where there’s a sincere will there is a way. The biggest complaint I’ve heard about colleges is the waste of time and money for unrelated subjects required etc…to reach the goal. It’s kind of funny when you consider the fact that life is a never ending education.

I’m surprised that there hasn’t been more push for following the model of the California State Bar for other subjects. It’s a non-trivial test and doesn’t require a law degree. There are probably a number of fields of study that would be well suited to a commonly recognized test regime rather than a college degree.
The main point of the Dept. of Education appears to be it’s value as a jobs program, so there is that.

There are probably a number of fields of study that would be well suited to a commonly recognized test regime rather than a college degree.

Steve Sailer has discussed the PACE test and how it was watered down to satisfy the usual suspects.

Objective written tests for would-be government employees originated in Imperial China, and the idea was transmitted to Europe by early Jesuit missionaries, such as the great Matteo Ricci, who were impressed by how much better China was administered than their own countries. The Chinese tests were not seemingly all that “job-related” — they consisted of questions requiring elegant essays on the Confucian classics, with bonus points for artistic calligraphy. That doesn’t, at first glance, seem to have much to do with, say, keeping the Grand Canal dredged and open to shipping. But, of course, they were tests of IQ, literacy, and diligence, which predicts a lot more about job performance than, say, who you know.
Civil service testing in the U.S. consistently improved in the 20th Century, with the PACE federal civil service test introduced in the mid-1970s being a masterpiece of state of the art social science.

I imagine that they would eventually have to gut a test that actually was a “test”.

As part of my daily reading I often check in with the Diplomad 2.0. and I want to share this interesting insight:
Sabotage is All They Have Left on the Left
Like a retreating occupation army, the Democrats and their enablers seek to destroy all before the advancing liberating forces can use it.
In the wake of Trump’s “shock” victory last November, their failure to prevent him from taking office through a variety of loopy legal/political moves, the Democrats, reeling, once again, from the hammer blows of Trump’s uplifting and magnificent agenda-setting address to Congress, now openly seek no less than the destruction of the country’s ability to govern itself. They offer no alternative vision to compete with Trump’s optimistic message of national renewal, so they seek to prevent him from being able to use government in that quest, by denying him, the elected president, the institutions of government.
Sabotage is all they have left on the left.

    Read the rest HERE.
As Diplomat the Diplomad engaged the Russians through our his career and has some insight to the current Democrat Russian scare.
. . .the prog media, CNN, in particular, keeps referring to the Russian Ambassador as a “spymaster” and the lead spy recruiter for the Russian Embassy in the USA.
I happen to know something about this sort of thing; I can just about give you a 100% money-back guarantee that of all the people in the Russian Embassy charged with recruiting and managing spies, it ain’t the Ambassador. The Russians are MUCH, MUCH smarter than that.

Yes, all the left has left is sabotage.

    Re: the Democrat Party unified?
We must always remember we have a vicious, nasty, and determined foe. The Democrat Party may appear in disarray right now, but they will be back. The Alt-Left will emerge as an angry voice and will win a few seats most likely. It remains to be seen if the liberal wing of the party grows past its historical 20% of self identified electorate. I bet it does as the vortex in the Great Divide sucks up those who formerly stood on the middle ground.
My, my. Now even the Alt-Left appears to be calling CNN “Clinton News Network”. Never thought of CNN as the voice of the Democrat Insider Establishment Party because I foolishly considered CNN simply as the voice of the entire Looney Left. My brush as too broad apparently.

Just breaking the Left down into 2 camps. Under the topic of unified Left, I did not even think of the Green Libertarian Party and its myriad distinctions. Scenes @ 1:22 pm.
I watched the entire video. Have arrived at the same conclusion as the Sane Progressive has, albeit from different starting points. Funny, I noticed that Glenn Greenwald (I posted 2 articles of his recently) is being smeared as a child molester and horrible person or something. Hmmmm.
Seemed very odd to me at the time when Turkey shot down the Russian fighter. The war drums were really being pounded leading upon election. The airspace in question is just a narrow finger of land, 6 miles wide at the widest point to 2 miles wide. The Russian aircraft has shot down over the narrow part of the finger.
Odd because no way would Turkey act unilaterally and shoot down the Russian fighter without preapproval or prodding from the US to escalate matters on purpose. Turkey joining the EU with 90% of its land mass outside of the European continent? Turkey is the one piece of the puzzle that does not fit, but I digress.
I am convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that we supplied, armed, and supported ISIS as the “freedom fighters” in the Syrian civil war via our takedown of Libya. We gave them safe passage and when they all (10,000 ragheads ) were gathered in one spot parading through the streets with all their equipment, vehicles, and forces gathered and grouped into one place, we forbade our pilots from firing a single missile or round at them.
Lt. General Michael Flynn knew all this and was spilling the beans and not playing ball. As the 18th Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, he would know. Boy, did he know. Obama fired him after spoke out to the truth. Now they are going after Sessions. Jeff Sessios is not playing ball with the Shadow Government either. If one can figure out the primary reason why they are gunning full throttle to take down Sessions (head of Justice Department, no less), then one will see a much bigger clearer piece of the picture. It ain’t pretty.
Putin, like Flynn, was an intelligence officer. Not a spy, not a thug or goon or hitman, but a methodical gatherer of Intel. Those intelligence guys are calm, patient, and never rush. Not your typical dictator, Russian or not.
All this hysteria about Russia (a country with a GDP the size of Spain) is so far beyond keeping the ole wary eye of distrust on her. Way beyond giving Russia the old evil eye. The drums of a Hot War and a Cold War are big pounded into a frenzied pitch. Espionage is an act of war!, says McCain. This is equilivent to Pearl Harbor and 9/11!, says Chucky and Co. We have been attacked! Yet, not one ounce of facts or proof. Not one piece of hard cold fact.
No wonder Russia is modernizing its military and hardware as fast as they can. They knew it was coming. Meanwhile, I am not listening to the daily Russiagate stories anymore….at least with any interest.
What in the hell did Trump, a real estate developer from Queens all his adult life, stumble into? He just saw America was being screwed everywhere you turn and Trump ran with that. Now he is finding out just how much America is being screwed by the American gov’t.

From the Conservative Tree House, The Shadow Government Timeline:
    1. June 2016: FISA request. The Obama administration files a request with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) to monitor communications involving Donald Trump and several advisers. The request, uncharacteristically, is denied.
    2. July: Russia joke. Wikileaks releases emails from the Democratic National Committee that show an effort to prevent Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) from winning the presidential nomination. In a press conference, Donald Trump refers to Hillary Clinton’s own missing emails, joking: “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing.” That remark becomes the basis for accusations by Clinton and the media that Trump invited further hacking.
    3. October: Podesta emails. In October, Wikileaks releases the emails of Clinton campaign chair John Podesta, rolling out batches every day until the election, creating new mini-scandals. The Clinton campaign blames Trump and the Russians.
    4. October: FISA request. The Obama administration submits a new, narrow request to the FISA court, now focused on a computer server in Trump Tower suspected of links to Russian banks. No evidence is found — but the wiretaps continue, ostensibly for national security reasons, Andrew McCarthy at National Review later notes. The Obama administration is now monitoring an opposing presidential campaign using the high-tech surveillance powers of the federal intelligence services.
    5. January 2017: Buzzfeed/CNN dossier. Buzzfeed releases, and CNN reports, a supposed intelligence “dossier” compiled by a foreign former spy. It purports to show continuous contact between Russia and the Trump campaign, and says that the Russians have compromising information about Trump. None of the allegations can be verified and some are proven false. Several media outlets claim that they had been aware of the dossier for months and that it had been circulating in Washington.
Admiral Michael Rogers had a visit with President Trump on Friday, November 11th.
According to the Executive Order rule changes DNI James Clapper signed off on December 15th.
General Michael Flynn spoke to the Russian Ambassador on December 29th
Dec 29th 2016 – Obama announces sanctions on Russia
    shadow-government
    6. January: Obama expands NSA sharing. As Michael Walsh later notes, and as the New York Times reports, the outgoing Obama administration “expanded the power of the National Security Agency to share globally intercepted personal communications with the government’s 16 other intelligence agencies before applying privacy protections.” The new powers, and reduced protections, could make it easier for intelligence on private citizens to be circulated improperly or leaked.
The new rules, which were issued in an unclassified document, entitled Procedures for the Availability or Dissemination of Raw Signals Intelligence Information by the National Security Agency (NSA), significantly relaxed longstanding limits on what the NSA may do with the information gathered by its most powerful surveillance operations.
These operations are largely unregulated by American wiretapping laws. Surveillances include collecting satellite transmissions, phone calls, and emails that cross network switches abroad, and messages between people abroad that cross domestic network switches.
The changes initiated by the Obama Administration in its waning days empowered far more agents and officials to search through raw intelligence data.

    Jan 20th 2017 – Inauguration
Jan 23rd 2017 – FBI reports nothing unlawful in content of Flynn call
Jan 26th 2017 – Sally Yates (acting DOJ) informs President Trump there might be a conflict between VP Pence’s stated TV version (was told by Flynn), and what Intel community communicate to Yates that Flynn actually expressed to Russia.

I think the irrationality here is thinking their debt is virtually the only debt that a bankruptcy court can’t discharge and that will be forever. That special status only started recently.
Unless you want to bring back debtor’s prisons for young people who believed the BS their government and college “financial advisors” told them, THERE WILL BE A FORGIVING OF COLLEGE DEBT. Some of it, at least. Most of that pile of money didn’t give value to the students; it’s been a huge boondoggle for k-16+ educators, Democratic Party sacred cows for the most part.
