It’s screwing up the short-term that kills you.  Without a successful short-term there is no long-term.

Refugees “dashing for the border” was last night’s report on Fox News showing illegal aliens trudging through northern New York snow to cross our unfenced border with Canada.  They claim to fear being apprehended by our ICE and returned to their native lands.  Well enough, but no one on FN was sufficiently bright to question why their desire to leave the US was written up as a “dash”, as if American authorities were in hot pursuit attempting to catch them before they were pro forma handcuffed by waiting Canadian authorities and whisked away to a hastily established welcoming center for processing.  Why would our feds want to catch a fleeing illegal and start lengthy deportation court proceedings, suffer the political fallout, and then either release them again, or fly them home?  And given Canada's open arms policy, why was no one smart enough to question why our federal government doesn’t advertise and offer free bus service to ALL illegals who want to cross into Canada.  I mean let’s give them an 800 number and offer them curbside pick-up and real comfortable transportation to newly constructed waiting lounges located within a few feet of the open boundary, facilities that provide a warm place where they can refresh themselves with a bit of coffee and a light snack, sweets for their kids, and receive a sincere farewell before they walk across to be welcomed as new immigrants by our northern neighbor.  What could be a more civil and commodious departure?  There is absolutely no need to dash.

[24feb17 update]  Protectionism and isolationism.  In his ‘Confessions of a Free-Trade Lobbyist’ former Caterpillar exec Bill Lane pours some cold water of reality on the White House lovefests with business leaders on creating jobs.  “During my 40-year career at Caterpillar, I don’t recall ever being in a management meeting where the sole objective was creating American jobs. …Mind you, I’ve been in countless meetings where the objective was increasing sales, reducing costs, improving quality, promoting safety or encouraging diversity. There were meetings that focused on embracing innovation or attracting and retaining the best employees. Some meetings were on hiring veterans. Others were about opening foreign markets while trying to keep the U.S. market open. And many were about customers and how our success was linked to theirs. … No boss ever said, ‘Your annual review will only measure the number of U.S. workers added.’ … Business leaders politely clap as the president puts exports at risk. Yet they know ‘Fortress America’ would be a disaster.”

[27feb17 update]  Transgender phollies.  The Washington Post reports (here) that a high school girl on the way to becoming a boy (kids don’t have their plumbing modified until they achieve age of consent) has won the girls state wrestling championship in Texas.  However, this high schooler "whose transition from girl to boy began two years ago and now includes testosterone injections, won (that) championship."  Controversies about the victory aside, a ‘brave new world’ question, or is it a conundrum?, occurred to me.  What if the young intact female who ‘identifies’ as a male also now declares that ‘he’ is gay and throws a lip on another boy?  Since homosexualism is the new norm to be tolerated under pain of law, how will these ‘gender identification’ vs ‘sexual orientation’ issues be resolved, especially if they arise during the transition phase when the physiology is still a work in process?  And, of course, this question will just as easily arise going the other way.  Oh what tangled web we weave … .

OK, you got that?  Now let’s leave The Washington Post and meander over to The Blaze covering the same championship but getting the gender change all turned around.  The Blaze reports (here) on the young person as s/he “transitions from female to male”, pumped with body altering hormones that supposedly gave s/him unfair advantage wrestling other ‘stock model females’ still sporting their original factory equipment.  No matter, the confusion will ultimately be sorted out and my above question still stands – inquiring minds want to know.

Mexico meddles in America’s internal affairs while the progressives fiddle or worse, they actively support the Mexicans.  Union columnist George Boardman writes an excellent article (here) about the whole affair in today’s paper.  But when he talks about ‘The Wall’ Mr Boardman appears to let the perfect become the enemy of the good – no wall will stop them all, and it probably will not be a wall at all that goes the whole way from the Pacific to the Gulf.  Most are beginning to understand that it is the porosity of our entire border – crossed by legal and illegal entrants – that is the problem to be solved.  Mr Boardman concludes that gaining control of our alien entry problem is an “issue (that) has nothing to do with racism (we already have the most diverse population in the world) or preserving our Eurocentric traditions, or any of the other guilt trips apologists for illegal immigrants like to lay on the rest of us. It's about retaining the core values of America and controlling our own destiny.”  And here I thought we all were agin furriners meddling in our internal business; not only agin, but downright agitated enough to call for congressional investigations to get to the bottom of such monkey business.  Has anyone heard of any such investigations about Mexico's role in these doings? – or better yet, investigations of patriotic Hispanic Americans acting in league with a foreign government as it conspires to violate our federal laws?

And, we could use those same buses to enable them to dash back to the U.S. to exercise their right vote.

Nothing to do with Canada, but I like this one.
Check out how the memory hole works with MSM.

Looks like the LGBTQ’s will also be headed to the border now that boys can’t be using the girls locker rooms and bathrooms.
Watching the presser by Spicer today the press corp is more concerned about the girl/boys than they are about national security. You cannot make this stuff up.

ToddJ 233pm – good point. But we all know why the journalists are focusing on gender neutral toilets and locker rooms. It’s a clear issue that highlights the Right’s political incorrectness and one that is easily understood by the double dummy contingent of the Left’s constituency. National security can get complex; besides the journalists are having trouble understanding that themselves.

And here I believed this thread was about illegals dashing across the border north. Same old same old commentary no matter George’s starting subject. Tuning out…

We need to build a big tall wall along the northern border; all 5,525 miles of it!

Thanks GR for putting up my post that was caught somewhere. I’ll stick to the litter box from now on for that kind of thing per 9:45PM. I have a fascination for modern censorship tendencies, it’s common practice on some sites to put up web archive links because it’s assumed that stories that the MSM doesn’t approved will get killed. The archives strike me as the last defense against full-blown deep state manipulation of the news, so someone should really try to protect them.
In any case, from the Canada immigration site:
“Canada has an agreement with the United States where people who want to make a refugee claim must do so in the first safe country they arrive in. This means that if you enter Canada at a land border from the United States, you cannot make a refugee claim in Canada.”
I wonder how they’ll deal with this.

I am confused. Those are not people who are refugees or applied for refugee status. Nay, those handful of people running to Canada were afraid of being deported because they are illegal aliens here illegally. That is why they were afraid of being deported.
Love how the media characterizes “refugees”.

At what point in the travails and travels of someone who once fled in peril does he relinquish the privileged title of ‘refugee’?

An excellent question! Let me add another……does being a “refugee” entitle one to permanent residence? I assume that after things settle down in ones native land a refugee would want to return and assist in reconstruction/rehabilitation?

A Vietnamese refugee female elected State Senator was booted by the democrats in Sacramento from speanking the truth about Tom Hayden. She witheld her speech for a day to not offend Hayden’s relatives there for a democrat kumbaya of him. Amazing.

Well, this asylum seeker raped the wrong girl…the daughter of an EU official. Otherwise, it would be xenophobic hate speech and nothing to see here.

PRESIDENT TRUMP ANNOUNCES SALE OF CALIFORNIA TO MEXICO
WASHINGTON (AP) – at 12:15pm today President Trump disclosed that he has reached an agreement with Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico, which provides for the sale of substantially all of the State of California to the country of Mexico. President Trump noted that this deal, which he claims “is his largest real estate deal ever” is a win-win for everyone involved. One of the benefits he says he will highlight during a prime time address from the oval office later this evening, will include using the proceeds received by the US from Mexico to 1) pay for the Wall (fulfilling yet another campaign promise), a wall which will now include the length of the eastern boarder of California, 2) fund all the infrastructure spending in the remaining 49 states and 3) pay to relocate the 67 Republicans that currently reside in California. He also noted that Federal money saved from the reduction of California citizens on US social programs will allow those social programs to be cash positive in less than 3 years.
Mexican President Nieto announced that he has already introduced a bill to the Mexican Congress asking to change his country’s name to MexiCal.

There is more to the story, but too long for a post.
Yes, this a parody, but think about the possibilities.

Russ, yes, most of California would be sold except for a portion of NorCal that would be called ‘Jefferonia’. 😉

    Re: Today’s Updates….
    1) The Wall. Just cause the Wall won’t stop all illegal entry, does not mean we throw the baby out with the bath water. What is it with these all or nothing Alt-Left progressives? The Wall is just one tool in the toolbox of many tools. The levies have many leaks in different places and it’s not a one size fits all solution. But, the Southetn border has a big honking hole in it that needs to be plugged ASAP. Overstaying Visas is another, as Boardman pointed out. And more steps need taken in unison or separately. Stop the incoming and start working on the bad hombres that are already here by grabbing the criminals and other low hanging fruit. We got around 1 million illegals here that have already been through the court process and have been ordered deported by Immigration Courts. Feds. Just pick them up when we get around to it. Already ordered deported and had their day in court. Maybe 850,000. That is fair enough. There is a wrench for every hut.

We really don’t even need a wall. Just enforce the law. Is that really so hard to understand? Employers get to check SS numbers before they hire. Any federally chartered bank found doing business with an illegal isn’t ‘federally chartered’ no mo. Anyone filing a federal tax return must vouch for the SS number shown on the form. If it’s found to be a bogus number, it’s a felony. No – typos and honest mistakes won’t count.
As I’ve asked on numerous occasions and have had not a single answer from the leftistas: what federal laws do I get to break and get rewarded for?

    Transgender update.
That girl is pumped up with hormones. Possible steroid derivatives . She could never play for a professional sports team (and possibility the NCAA) due to their strict ban on performance enhancing drugs. PC allows this injustice to the other wrestlers. It’s a stacked deck in favor of one and a disadvantage to every high school girl wrestling opponent. Unfair! That’s not who we are.
