[Mr George Boardman, our beloved compatriot debater and member of The Union's considerable cadre of leftwing columnists, has again declared his true colors in today's 'Who's behind Calexit?' Therein he presents a pernicious conspiracy theory, blaming the whole movement on those dastardly conservatives.  "It appears to me that Calexit is being funded and supported by shadowy forces that are less interested in ridding California of its tormentors than makings the rest of the U.S. permanently red. That’s why Breitbart News and Infowars haven’t exposed this threat to the American Way of Life."  Calexit a threat to the American Way of Life??!!  Aside from that little bit of humor, my real question for our readers is what possible "Observations for(sic) the center stripe" can Mr Boardman hope to offer?  Perhaps he can expand on both claims.  gjr]

I do have a soft spot for liberal writers who use their brains as well as their sense of discernment. A rare breed.

BillT – I like this quote, “Liberalism, as I see it, is about going wherever facts and reason take you and about changing one’s mind when new facts present themselves, and not about having dogmas and defending them till you are blue in the face.”
Just change the word ‘liberalism’ with ‘open-mindedness’.
Too many blogs/echo chambers are more about this, “having dogmas and defending them till you are blue in the face.”

    Scott Adams:
Yesterday I asked my most liberal, Trump-hating friend if he ever figured out why Republicans have most of the Governorships, a majority in Congress, the White House, and soon the Supreme Court. He said, “There are no easy answers.”
I submit that there are easy answers. But for many Americans, cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias hide those easy answers behind Hitler hallucinations.

Calexit is a slap in the face to our California Veterans who died fighting for our country. I think of my 2nd great-grandfather who fought in the Civil War with the 1st Maine Cavalry and is buried in San Mateo County. He was very involved with the Grand Army of the Republic in S.F., a fraternal Civil War veterans group. He was very proud of his service in protecting the Union against the breakaway states.
The uproar by some over the State of Jefferson movement and how silent these same people are over Calexit is perplexing to me.

    Gary Smith.
One should not be perplexed. As I understand it, the State of Jefferson’s purpose is to create a new state within the United States, a 51st state if you will. Calexit’s purpose is to secede from the United States and renounce US citizenship of her residents. Big difference between creating a new state within the US and creating a new independent country separated from the USA, IMHO.

    Re-posted for your conveniance
Trump mouth may have reacted an all time low with this exchange on O’Reilly:
“He’s a killer though. Putin is a killer,” O’Reilly told the president.
“There’s a lot of killers,” Trump replied. “What, you think our country is so innocent?”
Remarkable response from Gen Barry McCaffrey
Ret. Gen. said President Trump telling Bill O’Reilly that the U.S. is not “innocent” in a discussion about Putin being a killer is one of the most anti-American statements he has ever heard.
“One could argue that’s the most anti-American statement ever made by the president of the United States, to confuse American values with Putin,” the retired general said Monday on MSNBC.

Re GaryS 1212pm – What appears to us as duplicity is a built-in feature of liberal argument if not their logic. As Mr Tozer points out, tolerating such duplicities is an acquired skill, more needed to allay hypertension than change errant minds.

    Ha……”Sometime in next year…
Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly asked Trump in an interview before the Super Bowl if Americans can “expect a new healthcare plan rolled out by the Trump Administration this year.”
“Yes, in the process and maybe it’ll take till sometime into next year but we’re certainly going to be in the process,” Trump replied.
“You have to remember Obamacare doesn’t work so we are putting in a wonderful plan,” he added.

It should not be perplexing once you realize that the uproar by ‘some people’ over SOJ are not necessarily the same people who are chanting ‘Calexit’.
I have no reason to comment pro or against Calexit because I don’t take Calexit seriously. Calexiters are just taking their cues from SOJers whom are also delusional.

BradC 248pm – That sounds like you may be a proponent of ‘if we can’t solve the whole problem all at once, then we should not solve any part of it’. But all kidding aside, the Canadian border problem is totally different from the Mexican side, and we have no idea how many terrorists have arrived from either side. All we have is some good estimates of the large numbers coming in from the south. Since Canadians populate and monitor their border with us, it is hard for large numbers to come in from that side. And no one has claimed that it is not possible for terrorists to arrive from places other than Mexico. (Recall, that illegal aliens from Mexico also present problems beyond terrorism.)

BradC, your 248 is nonsensical as the “exteme vetting” is for visa seekers from states designated by the Obama Administration as the seven with unusually active terrorist activities within. Not Canada or Mexico.
Obama’s plan was for 110,000 refugees in FY2017 which started last October. Trump is blunting that.

Rasmussen is the only poll showing Trump support and even on that poll it’s declining. Gallup is the standard that has been consistent since Truman allowing comparisons which show Trump by far the least supported President at this stage since Truman.
