More signs of our times.  SESF Executive Director Russ Steele and I along with our brides attended a robotics competition last Sunday at the Folsom campus of Intel Corporation.  One of the teams competing was from Nevada Union HS, and we were there to root for the home team.  They did quite well, but I’ll let Russ fill you in on the details since he is preparing a piece on the event.  SESF has been deeply involved in STEM education of our county’s youth.  SESF writes and funds the annual TechTests and TechTestJrs merit exams, give seminars on taking tests, and run the TechMentor program for special students.  But nationwide things are not looking all that good, since our K-12 school systems turn out overwhelming numbers of kids who can’t read, write, or reason (more here and H/T to a reader for this latest heads up).

The leftwing mobs protesting free speech on campuses are growing more brazen as witnessed at UC Berkeley yesterday.  Now violence is becoming the norm with fires, rocks, and broken windows as the campus police stand by helplessly not certain whether to enforce the law or run and hide.  One of my current books has been Der Führer (1944) by Konrad Heiden, a detailed history of the rise of Adolph Hitler and National Socialism in prewar Germany.  Today’s headlines reflect mirror images of how our radical (or is it normal?) Left dispatches its ideological opponents similarly to how the SA brown shirts shut down opposition to the Nazis even before they were known as Nazis.

Today one of NPR’s daily hit pieces on Trump featured a Democrat senator opposing Judge Gorsuch for being "out of the mainstream" since he is not a supporter of Roe v Wade.  Mainstream?  Yes, as the litmus test the senator cited that 80% of Americans support RvW.  Someone should inform the beltway sequestered politician that 99.9% of RvW supporters have no clue as to what that law actually provides for, and what factors comprise its deceptively named ‘women’s healthcare’ issue.

A learned friend and RR reader sent me a couple of documentaries, both rather long and informative, but that’s the price of completeness.  The first entitled ‘Death by China’ covers the enormous problem of jobs and China’s impact on America’s growing systemic unemployment.  This, as longtime readers will recognize, is one of RR's seminal themes which the data presented in this video corroborates.

The second documents the abhorrent science behind the global climate change hysteriaRR has presented detailed analyses of the so-called global warming issue, among these being our lack of a workable atmospheric science upon which we can build reliable general circulation models (GCMs).  The interviewed scientists take us through the latest in the development of climate data, the known science, and the dysfunctional GCMs which are used to create the catastrophe graphics to fuel the politics and policies of central planning and globalization.  The documentary – ‘Doomsday called off’ – should be of special interest to the liberal bobbing heads who can do nothing more than interminably parrot ‘Consensus science! Consensus science! Consensus science! …, Aaaawkk!’  Spoiler alert: Besides the dreadful condition of the GCMs, you’ll learn that histrionics based on surface temperatures just won’t do.  (for more, search RR with ‘global warming’)

[update]  And this just in on how companies, especially the highly regulated ones, view employees as the cost they are, and then do everything they can to keep such costs flexible so that they can respond to the ups and downs of the marketplace.  The solution increasingly adopted by firms is to hire contractors to fill needs which may not be permanent. 'The End of Employees' details this approach which is alarming to many workers of moderate and/or limited skill sets.  All of this is of a piece (see the China report above) with factors that exacerbate our growing systemic unemployment.

[3feb17  update]  ‘Replace ObamaCare, Don’t Rename It’ advises Phil Gramm, former senator and chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, because “trying to cure all the program’s ills will only make them worse – and the GOP will get the blame.”  He also informs us that Obamacare added only 2.3M to the private insurance rolls, and those at a cost of $29,130 each.  Why?  Because the normal accretion (even after failed Hillarycare) to such rolls occurs after each recession without any help (interference?) from government.  The main effort here is to repeal Obamacare’s impact on taxes, rationing, coercion, and economic stagnation.  The GOP’s solution should have a more cost-efficient pre-exisitng conditions proviso, improve Americans’ ability to keep their insurance when they get sick or change jobs, and provide Medicaid block-grants to the states.  “If they try to do more, they will be in danger of only changing the name of ObamaCare.  They would then own a program that is (still) detrimental to freedom, fiscal responsibility, and economic growth.”

[5feb17 update] Readers informed me that some of the liberals’ local leading lights went into histrionics responding to my 4feb17 column ‘Calexit and the Great Divide’ in The Union (and here).  It’s hard to tell whether these worthies are really smarter than their effluent indicates and just playing to their information under-loaded base, or whether they share in those deficits.  The critiques underscored a gross misunderstanding of the US Constitution along with what I said in my column.  The former is abundantly evident in these pages, and the latter is a perennially seminal characteristic of the progressive – ‘We know what you really meant.’  Armed with these, critics proceeded to fabricate their version of my column.

The most astounding aspect of their denials is that they all missed the Calexit gorilla in the room as the most prominent exemplar of the Great Divide.  This movement, now attempting to gather over half million signatures, was the highlight of my column.  And they totally missed it, apparently because the sheltered channels through which they are ‘informed’ never mentioned that little embarrassment to those globalists who have denied the now fully grown schism in the land.

Among the many things of which I was therein accused was the new charge that I am now also “craven” for “enjoying the benefits of American values while trying to deny those benefits to posterity.”  You literally cannot make this stuff up, but they can; it is of a piece of the Left’s growing assault on the Trump presidency.

In reference to the UC Berkeley riots. Looking at some of the video this morning I was disturbed by the paid rioters dressed in black with masks covering their lower face. They came with crowbars to smash windows, and used barriers as battering rams. The fires were started with railroad flares. All of this indicates preparation and planning. I was equally surprised by the lack of arrests of these black dressed figures operating as a coordinate team. I watched the start of the riot which was streamed live on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson show, including an interview with Milo Yiannopoulos by cellphone. Interview is HERE.

    Russ,
They are called “black bloc” and are parasites to valid movements and protests. Sometimes good and most times hurtful for the protest. Many paid saboteurs for the power structure dress as black bloc to destroy property. That destruction then gives the state/ police to come down hard with “justifiable” force.

    What a joke, Ben.
“That destruction then gives the state/ police to come down hard with “justifiable” force.”
Do you mean actually arresting someone for rioting and destruction of property?
In Berkeley the police did almost nothing and never arrested anyone.
Even after the leftists attacked people.

    UC Berkley:
Smells like Rules for Racials to me. There is an opening for them to worm their way in to do their dastardly deeds behind the lines of peaceful protestors and in the vicinity of a nearby Starbucks window. Is it because Starbucks contributed to My Gal’s Campaign?
They sure get their juices flowing when the patio umbrella hits that first pane of glass. Them rascals give all our evolved progressives a bad name. They got a PR problem and a few more votes just slipped away from the party of enlightenment.
The silver lining is the counterrevolution deplorable louts can take a page out of the same playbook and hold them to their values, which they can never do flawlessly.
Yo Liberals, how do you reconcile Muslim attitudes towards gays and our values?
Hmmmmmmm. I can’t hear you. That was all Milo was going to talk about. Maybe saying a little fat shaming is good if it makes people healthier and less at risk for heart disease, strictly speaking from a medical and cost point of view.
So, these anarchistx are the millstone around the progressives necks? Interesting.
Maybe those were not ararchistx but hired railroad security goons that were busting heads of migrant workers in the thirties. Nah, it’s just ole George Soros creating jobs for our youth.
You know, UC Berkely gets more than three hundred million clams a year in funding from our Great Father in Washington. It may not have been completely all the student snowflakes fault, but Trump sure sent a message that got the regents attention. Another silver lining.

So – Milo is rescheduled and the police will make sure anyone attending will be able to do so without fear of being harassed, beaten/and or their cars vandalized?
Of course not. The brownshirts won and the regents will hide under their desks. The damage is done and Trump should cut them off now. Why should our tax dollars go to this kind of institution?

The tribal chief who was protesting the Dakota access pipeline (which was just approved, finally) said its going to take weeks to clean up the protesters camp. All those die hard lefty environmentalist, professional protesters left literally tons of trash, junk and even cars when they skipped town for warmer climes. The real irony is that all that stuff would wash into the river when the rains come. The very river they were supposedly ‘protecting’. 😉

My question re Berkley is why they invited this scum sucker to speak in the first place. According to Huffington Post “Yiannopoulos’ speeches are often met by protests. His stories are among the most provocative on Breitbart, with headlines including “Birth control makes women unattractive and crazy,” “Science proves it: Fat-shaming works” and “Gay rights have made us dumber, it’s time to get back in the closet.”
Just a reminder that Trumps number 1 guy is Steve Bannon who was responsible for hiring Yiannopoulos at Breitbart.
Here’s an example of his writing that Bannon supported when he was with Breitbart.

Virginnie was a heck of a lot closer than I could even have hopped for. And now all the Dems leaving town and the Deplorables working in nearby D.C., well it just warms the cockles of me heart. It doesn’t matter one whit why he was invited to speak at Berkeley. It’s not for you or any other crypto-fascist to determine why we do or don’t do things as long as they’re peaceful and legal.
Maybe a citizens committee needs to determine who is to be allowed to appear at Nevada County venues.
You down with that home boy? No, I didn’t think so. If you don’t respect others’ rights, please inform us as to why anyone should respect yours?
All of the folks that ‘protested’ at the Berkeley campus before the Milo speaking event were there to prevent a peaceful and legal gathering.
Afterwards, there was a celebration of victory by the rioters in Berkeley over their ability to prevent view points they don’t agree with to be heard.

If the radical Left keeps this up the 2ND Amendment just might come into play. There is an oath that millions of real Americans took at one point or another the contain the words ” Will defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic” The radical Left is starting to fit the bill of “domestic enemy”.
Think it was LIBS that bought guns in record amounts? bought ammo as fast as it was made?
    Me no think so.
Now we have sitting Senators and Congressmen calling for violence because their idealism was flushed down the crapper in this last election.
The day may come sooner than later that those that truly believe in what America stands for will have had enough of this and deal with these in a not so pretty way.

Well, if we can rally around that horrid Trump, it is only natural that we rally around our campus gadfly and absolutely fabulous Milo.. Socrates called himself a gadfly as well. But, then again, Socrates was no Milo.
Just happen to be acquainted with one reformed Lib fema-Nazi who voted for Trump. Yes, we have to speak in whispers and make sure no one is watching. Two reasons. First and foremost was “Hillary USED (with much shock and emphasis on the word ‘used’) the Woman’s Movement, and secondly, because Trump was going to pop PC right in the kisser. Another lifelong straight Dem ticket voter told me she voted for Trump because of Pence and, secondly, Trump was going to pop PC right in their kisser. Yes, we have to whisper on the phone when it is safe to do so.
Milo is just a chic-er, younger and edgier form of Trump. It’s a big tent. Some of us don’t believe our rights stop where your feeling begin. Think of him as a Don Rickles in drag.

I have to wonder if UC Berkley is worried about the fall out from their failure to protect free speech? The President is talking about defunding them for their willfully denning 1st amendment rights by failing to act. UCB gets $375,000,000.00 a year from the feds, that would be one hell of a fine! It could well happen with Cali now being in the wilderness politically. 😉

News Flash!!!!! This may be why Trump is so mentally unstable.
According to the New York Times that interviewed Dr. Harold N. Bornstein, Trumps personal physician Trump takes a small daily dose of the drug finasteride ― otherwise known as Propecia ― which is used to treat male-pattern baldness.
The FDA-approved pill has been called into question, with emerging research and a slew of lawsuits suggesting that finasteride may be more dangerous than previously believed,” reported Men’s Journal. “Users report that its side effects — inability to orgasm, painful erections, chronic depression, insomnia, brain fog, and suicidal thoughts — can last long after patients stop taking the pill.”
Here’s what another website says it can cause:
“Signs and symptoms of Propecia-induced anxiety may include feelings of panic or fear, obsessive thoughts, ritualistic behaviors, and problems sleeping.”

Gotta feel for those conservative kids at Cal. Nothing to do with Milo. They are constantly harassed, spit on, have their property damaged, their personal information released, and that is normal daily campus life for them. They write letters to the Chancellor with their concerns and the Chancellor replies to the whole campus to respect the Alt-Left’s rights.
Dumb young idealistic conservative youth think that they can dialogue with the libs, lol. Of, the idealism of youth. Like, they really care what you think or have to say. And they really don’t want to wasted their rolled eyes time talking with you. You thought bringing Milo in would start a dialogue? Ok, nice to be optimist and take the high road and agree that there are some things Milo said you don’t agree with and blah, blah, blah. Hey young conservatives, hear this: They hate your guts. That is why they follow you around and spit on you. No worries. Trump is going to put an end to this noise.
