[I was perusing RR's hoary past to note the constant torrent of comments predicting the assured and imminent demise of the Republican Party for this or that outrage according to our tireless local progressives.  I also note that no one from the Right has been foolish enough to predict the Democrats' demise for doing some really dumb things over the last decade of these pages.  So does that mean that there is no learning taking place on the Left (my favorite hypothesis), or do these adamant worthies subscribe to and unabashedly place their hope on the unfortunate truth that it is possible to fool most of the people most of the time? (This is my own observation over the decades that completes the standard shibboleth 'You can fool some people all the time, and all people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.'  Well, you don't have to; fooling most people most of the time works out quite well as confirmed by most astute observers.)  gjr]

You deserve the smaller rig, Walt. More brains, less bronze. Upper management, eh? Have you written the new rules for PC speech at the workplace yet? Hole sounds kinda mean spirited to me. Hole digging is so wrong on so many different levels. You are mean one, Captain Ahab. It’s a dirty job but somebody needs to do it.

Looks like our new proposed Atorney General Jeff Sessions tried to pin down Sally Yates bu asking her if she would follow Obama’s orders if she thought it was illegal. this was during her confirmation hearings as Deputy Attorney General under Obama.
    This is how it went:
SESSIONS: You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things you just need to say “no” about. Do you think the Attorney General has the responsibility to say no to the President if he asks for something that’s improper? A lot of people have defended the [Loretta] Lynch nomination, for example, by saying, “Well [Obama] appoints somebody who’s going to execute his views. What’s wrong with that?” But if the views the president wants to execute are unlawful, should the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General say no?
YATES: Senator, I believe the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution, and to give their independent legal advice to the president.
That’s what she did that led to her firing by Trump. Unbelievable first 10 days by Trump. She was doing the job whe waqs hired for to make decisions based on her legal judgement.. ..

PaulE 1008pm – Your system of logic does not allow you to parse the questioning by Sessions, the conviction of Yates, and the prerogatives of President Trump. That all these can reasonably follow from each other is hard for many (most?) to grasp. I refer you again to the NCES National Assessment of Adult Literacy cited here over the years.

Anthony Watts as WUWT has some insight to the future of the EPA and the Paris Climate Agreement under the Trump administration.
US president Donald Trump will honour his campaign pledge to pull the US out of the Paris climate agreement and defund UN climate programmes, a former adviser to the new administration has said.
Myron Ebell served as head of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) transition team from early September until 19 January, when he helped to draft an advisory action plan on how to implement Trump’s campaign promises.
At a press briefing held by the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) and the Foreign Press Association (FPA) in London today, Ebell declined to divulge any details of the EPA document on the grounds that it is confidential.
But Ebell, a well-known climate change sceptic and head of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s (CEI) energy and environment centre, outlined Trump’s “very clear” promises on energy and the environment that he is convinced the new president will honour.
Apart from withdrawing from the UN climate deal, Trump will also potentially repeal all of the previous administration’s EPA rules on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions including the clean power plan and the climate action plan.
Ebell expects Trump “to be very assiduous in keeping his promises despite all the flack he is going to get from his opponents,” adding that he brings a “message of hope” in terms of the new administration’s energy and environment policy.
The first hopeful aspect is that the US will clearly change course on climate policy, Ebell said. Secondly, the new US president has undertaken to unleash US energy production growth. Trump said he wants to make the US the world’s largest energy producer and achieve a position of global dominance for the country, he said.

Trump has demonstrated that he will fulfil all of his campaign promises. Fixing EPA Regulations and withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement appear to still be on Trump’s action list. Stay Tuned!

Trump is falling off the charts. He has pathetic public support according to the polls .
Trump started his Presidency with the lowest poll approval numbers in history and has since fallen lower. He’s currently at -8 in Gallup’s daily tracking. Obama was +30 at his stage.

That’s so sweet of PE to share, so what did 0’s numbers do for his legislative agenda? Nothing, 0 had the smallest number of bills become law of any modern president. He did worse than 1 termers like Carter. Given that it would seem the Presidents numbers bode well for legislative achievement. The real problem for PE & team PC is that they are going to hate all that successful legislation. 😉

Oh Paul Emery, you really are desperate. I recall Obama underwater for a long time on these tracking polls. Trump is above water on one and under on another. But the one I think is more interesting is “The direction of the country”. It is a tie today. All the years of Obama was underwater by twenty points. So Americans are hopeful and if you like polls, Trump is kicking your ass.

You can’t make this up. These guys are seriously confused.
To ban or not to ban. that is the question.
Spicer told a group of George Washington University students that “the ban deals with seven countries.”
But less than 24 hours later, Spicer insisted that the word “ban” was inaccurate, and that by using it, journalists were perpetuating a false narrative about Trump’s executive order.
When reporters pointed out that it was Trump who had decided to use the word, Spicer said the president was merely “using the words the media is using.”
“But those were his words,” a reporter said.
“It can’t be a ban if you’re letting 1 million people, and if 325,000 people from another [Muslim] country can come in, then that is, by nature, not a ban,” Spicer insisted.
“But the president himself called it a ban,” the reporter continued.
    “I understand that,” Spicer barked.
“So is he confused, or you confused?”
“I’m not confused. The words being used to describe it derive from what the media is calling this. [The president] has been clear it is ‘extreme vetting.’”

    About the polls
None of you seem to acknowledge that:
1.. first the polls show Trump to be the least supported President up to and including Truman at the beginning of their Presidency.
2… It’s all downhill from here-Obama started in the 70’s and Bush in the 60’s for example
3…Trump has dropped in support eight points from the dismal place he started. (from dead even to -8%
How is it he’s doing the great job you applaud him for if he has such dismal support?
this is all based on the Gallup daily tracking which has been going since Truman. He has also fallen in every other poll including the one that supported him last week.
