[I was perusing RR's hoary past to note the constant torrent of comments predicting the assured and imminent demise of the Republican Party for this or that outrage according to our tireless local progressives. I also note that no one from the Right has been foolish enough to predict the Democrats' demise for doing some really dumb things over the last decade of these pages. So does that mean that there is no learning taking place on the Left (my favorite hypothesis), or do these adamant worthies subscribe to and unabashedly place their hope on the unfortunate truth that it is possible to fool most of the people most of the time? (This is my own observation over the decades that completes the standard shibboleth 'You can fool some people all the time, and all people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.' Well, you don't have to; fooling most people most of the time works out quite well as confirmed by most astute observers.) gjr]

So far as I can tell, what he’s doing is rather clever. He is using existing law and positions by members of the opposing party (the choice of which countries to restrict is one example), but then bringing in the novel idea of actual enforcement. You end up with a day or two of news cycle yelling to the high heavens followed by a week’s worth of showing how Obama (or some Democratic Senator) already voted for such a thing in the past.

It seems to me that this ban thing is all wrong. What if the US had banned all Germans after WWII? Then we would have no George. Of course we took them in especially Nazis like Werner Van Braun and others to help us build missles so we could take over where they left off. Banning Muslims will surely hurt the expansion of the convenience store industry. Something Trump and his advisors probably haven’t considered. And I thought he was going to create jobs. One news outlet is reporting that Trump is already building furnaces in southern Utah. Just to add a little spite, it is rumored that they will smoke hams and bacon there until needed for the Muslims.

Scott Adams asks the seminal question – why do Muslim countries ban fellow Muslims? Surely they are not Islamophobes like our lefties call all of us here who don’t want unvetted Muslims in the US. But that is a question which none of the west’s progressives, starting with Merkel, want to touch with a ten foot pole. If they attempt to answer, it only makes them look more silly than they already are. And the real answer is really easy.

Paul, I am quite sure if any terrorist comes in the first 100 days of the Trump presidency, you’d be on him for not doing his job. His people will be reviewing the vetting procedures left over from the Obama years… I think choosing for this moratorium only countries tagged as terrorist hotbeds by the Obama administration is a model of bipartisanship.

Well of course you don’t PE, you read but fail to comprehend. Dr. R’s point emphasizes a nations sovereign right to absolute control over its boarder. No matter what the guilt tripping team lefty wants to throw. There is no ‘right’ to immigration. You speak of American values but all your talking about is wanting to impose your values on the government who’s primary job is the safety and interests of its citizens. The administration that won determines what the rules are. You lost, we all won. It will be a short 8-16 years PE. 😉
