The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see. Winston Churchill

George Rebane

Well, the Dems now have a rip that’s hard to hide – they are a bit fragmented after the election didn’t turn out as bought and paid for, and their intramural shenanigans were exposed to the world, and everyone now wants to become the DNC chairman.  But the real split is between the Bernie and Hillary factions – Bernie is still not sharing his list of double dummies who bought into his communist-lite copy.  But not to worry, they’ll find a way to come together and continue tearing down the vestiges of what the Founders left us.  The Agenda21 goals are still there waiting to be fulfilled; there are more items that need to be checked off.

Union columnist Mr George Boardman, who also graces these pages from time to time, made a remarkable assertion in his 16jan17 column comparing the gains and pains to different constituencies from a Trump presidency – “For Trump’s detractors, the worse will mean a halt to the social advancement of those of us who aren’t white heterosexual males, an end to that annoying “political correctness,” more polluted air and water, an end to reproductive and other rights women have taken for granted, and a general coarsening of what passes for civility.”

It’s hard to catch all the head-turners in that breezy list, and I wager that many did not.  In what recent decade were white heterosexual males still deemed by anyone to be advancing socially in America?  What evidence is there that Trump can outdo the EPA’s and other agencies’ screw ups in creating “more polluted air and water”?  Withdrawing federal funding of abortions suddenly spells “an end to reproductive and other(sic) rights women have taken for granted”?!!  And the “general coarsening” of “civility” occurs almost entirely when leftwing thugs smash windows, burn and loot stores, defecate on police cars, and trash public parks and streets when they rally and march, all in the name of demanding their civil rights (aka more money from the government).

The Clinton Global Initiative is kaput.  This demonstrates in the most convincing way possible that the whole Clinton thing has been a ‘pay for play’ scam of magnificent proportions.  How many of us were vilified by the local lefties when we pointed this out in the months before November.  Today it's suddenly hard to find people who voted for Hillary and will still defend the woman, her crooked family, and corrupt enterprises.  The lamestream has also been cooperatively reticent to report the countries, international bigwigs, and tinpot dictators who pulled their CGI ‘memberships’ and ‘donations’ after Hillary’s loss.  But there is an upside – little people will get to hear Hillary and Bubba who are now much more affordable and available to speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Resume Speed, Oregon.

[update]  Ever wonder why no one has brought up Sen Ted Kennedy’s documented entreaties to the USSR to help defeat President Reagan in his 1984 re-election has never made the news?  That would open some eyes now focused on the unfounded allegations breathlessly reported about Trump’s personal life and contacts with the Russians.  Where are the banner headlines?  (more here, here, and here)

The Left’s reconstruction of Obama’s legacy now in full swing includes a prominently paraded and most remarkable meme claiming that our first half-black president’s tenure was scandal free.  Leftwingers (including some RR readers) have been employing that narrative in the attempt to cover up the trials and tribulations visited on us by both Clintons and paint the pre-inaugurated Trump administration as being already corrupt.  In ‘Obama’s ‘Scandal-Free Administration’ Is a Myth’ Messrs John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky set the record straight.

“Trump’s extreme agenda” according to Mayor de Blasio is the new president’s intent to enforce federal immigration laws in self-declared ‘sanctuary cities’, while the political leaders of such cities that harbor illegal aliens, who are fugitives from justice, are not practicing an extreme agenda when they break the laws of the land and impede federal agents attempting to enforce the law.  And to think otherwise makes one a radical rightwinger and racist.  Such is the normal working of a liberal mind.

[18jan17 update]  Is it now safe to say that The Union is solidly a leftwing newspaper?  Given the strongly-denied, recent longer term audit (here, here, and here), the current spate of pre-inauguration columns and letters, today punctuated with an unmistakably partisan editorial (here) by the paper's Editor Mr Brian Hamilton, it seems that there is no question about which way our local paper leans, or has toppled.  No blame, no shame about all that unless they continue to bullshit the community that they are still an impartial observer and a balanced voice about matters socio-political.  Most certainly it is not what the local looney Left claims is "The Tea Party Gazette".

President Obama, true to established form, today delivered two whoppers during his last news conference as president.  He told us of an America that still has a “small sliver of folks” who are doing very well, (seatbelts please) while the rest of the country “struggles for scraps”.  Then he gave us the reason for that being that “people of color” aren’t out there doing enough voting because the “United States is the only country among developed countries that makes it harder for people to vote.”  Ever try to vote in Denmark, or Germany, or the UK, or … without having to prove your citizenship and/or residency?  Nevertheless, it is most appropriate that the man exits spewing consistent copy that has characterized his term in office.

What he did was nothing. All the signs were there that big money was gaming the system and were gonna ride it to the end. Trump himself admits to being one of the gamers. I’m anticipating the usual responses Bush derangement syndrome etc. this only came up because Todd was saying I was a Obama supporter and I responded appropriately.
This is a quote from our fearless leader
Two years before the housing market collapsed in 2008 and millions of Americans lost their homes, Donald Trump said he was hoping for a crash.
“I sort of hope that happens because then people like me would go in and buy,” Trump said in a 2006 audiobook from Trump University, answering a question about “gloomy predictions that the real estate market is heading for a spectacular crash.”
The U.S. housing bubble burst two years later, triggering the stock market crash of 2008 that plunged the U.S.

The Tea Party Gazette? Only if they publish two words that are not critical of the evil R’s.
Back to Boardman, the Union editorials, Letters to the Editor, and great links that stick in my mind full of mush.
Re: the Fear, the fear, the fear! Be afraid, be very afraid. Why the meltdown into a puddle of fear? The meltdown seems unprecedented. The wailing and gnashing of teeth appears unprecedented to me in my lifetime. Why the fear???!
Russ posted a link that is great, albeit hidden in another post. Storytime: Once I hopped in the car and the girls screamed out, “Dad, your seatbelt!” I realized that they have never known a time where seat belts were considered an extra….an option on a car. I realized that second that they would never know what it is like to jump in the back of a pickup and ride into town…without seat belts in the bed. Or dogs in the back without restraints.
Kim Kommando, the Digital Goddess, once took her young boy to the Smithsonian. The boy pointed and asked, “What’s that, Mom?” She instantly realized her son will grow up in a world where he did not know what “that” is. Never seen one before. It was a typewriter.
Why the fear, why are the libs paralyzed and gripped with terror? Cause they have never known anything else. It’s such a foreign concept. How could this have happened? Who among us could have even conceived of this outcome? Which one of our neighbors could support Trump? How did they sneak into our safe place, our safe world?

Paul is in revision mode. Housing collapse? You REALLY want to go and open that can of LIB worms? Allowing anyone with a pulse to get a loan guaranteed by the Gov. was a great LIB plan Don’t blame Bush Paul, that was a LIB controlled House and Sen. that dreamed that up.

Do you think there is a button in the Oval Office that launches nuclear missiles? There is a chain of command to launch, no president gets to launch on his own. You were in the military, what did they instruct you about illegal orders? Do you really think that if Trump says “I am pissed at China let’s nuke em” that the military is going to say okay and follow through? I have more faith in our Armed Forces than that. No Paul, I am not worried.

Oh goodie. I love history lessons.
Let’s so back to the Beatnik days! The Commie Bastards where going to nuke us into oblivion. Well, facing that threat and nowhere to hide, the operative phrase was “Better Red than Dead”. The Pinkos (recycled Marxists from the 30’s) still going strong in academia picked it up and regurgitated from their lofty perches to young students in our institutions of higher learning. Then the 60’s anti-war movement came along and the phrase lost its zeal. Only the professors of enlightenment remained, but I digress.
So, no worries Paul. Now that Trump has pulled out his knee pads and crawled under Putin’s desk and positioned himself in the perfect spot, we might all say “Better Red than Dead.” Hey, if you can’t beat ’em, join them. We will be spared a horrible fate. I bring you glad tidings.

re PaulE’s 1257pm – Here’s another one of these ‘what’s it got to do with anything’ questions. Neither Bush2, nor the Fed, nor the Council of Economic Advisers, nor, for that matter, any council of economic advisers in the country, nor the CBO, nor the OMB, nor the worldwide securities markets knew that the crash was coming. The only ones who predicted it were a few astute individuals who saw that the politically correct and Congress mandated lending policies would eventually cause the real estate markets to go off the cliff. Singling out Bush2’s knowledge of the coming recession is beyond silly since the WH had the least to do with that.

How on earth should I know why Bush didn’t do anything. A warning might have set the thing off. So I got nothing for you…….Ron Paul was on it though…..pity nobody listened!

“Ironically, by transferring the risk of a widespread mortgage default, the government increases the likelihood of a painful crash in the housing market,” Paul predicted. “This is because the special privileges granted to Fannie and Freddie have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital they could not attract under pure market conditions. As a result, capital is diverted from its most productive use into housing. This reduces the efficacy of the entire market and thus reduces the standard of living of all Americans.
“Despite the long-term damage to the economy inflicted by the government’s interference in the housing market, the government’s policy of diverting capital to other uses creates a short-term boom in housing,” Paul went on. “Like all artificially created bubbles, the boom in housing prices cannot last forever. When housing prices fall, homeowners will experience difficulty as their equity is wiped out. Furthermore, the holders of the mortgage debt will also have a loss. These losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been had government policy not actively encouraged over-investment in housing.
“I hope today’s hearing sheds light on how special privileges granted to GSEs distort the housing market and endanger American taxpayers,” Paul concluded. “Congress should act to remove taxpayer support from the housing GSEs before the bubble bursts and taxpayers are once again forced to bail out investors who were misled by foolish government interference in the market.”
