[This is the addended transcript of my regular KVMR commentary broadcast on 11 January 2017.]

In a few days we will witness the most tendentious changing of the guard our republic has had since Abe Lincoln was sworn in.  Now that’s ‘tendentious’ like in ‘having or showing a definite tendency, bias, or purpose’.  President-elect Trump and the Republicans want all to know that their prime purpose is to terminate as many of the Obama policies as they can, and put the country back on a rapid growth pattern under a less regulated and taxed kind of governance.  The Democrats, today under an unsettled, dubious, and possibly contentious leadership, are making very public their intentions to disrupt, delay, and hopefully defeat everything that can demonstrate to America that the last eight years have been a slow walking disaster.

We haven’t witnessed a retiring president so aware that he may wind up as one of the most harmful leaders our country has experienced.  And that includes his leadership of the Democratic Party which has suffered the worst series of legislative and constitutional defeats since the 1920s.  In response President Obama has exercised a most desperate exit strategy in living memory with his recent good-bye tour that terminated in Chicago last night.  His clear purpose for the tour was to pick up the abandoned Team Obama banner, brush it off, and once more parade it around the country to remind us of his accomplishments.  Why?  Because no one else in the predominantly leftwing media or his own political party would do so.  After Hillary tested and flunked touting his policies, only Obama was left to go around telling us all how great the last eight years have been.

A cursory glance at his domestic record reminds us –

  • of an economy in permanently stunted growth struggling to recover;
  • a national healthcare attempt that has failed in the marketplace – of the touted 20M new recipients only 9M ever wanted such healthcare, and 6.5M more paying penalties to avoid Obamacare;
  • the doubling of our national debt with little or nothing to show for it;
  • and end-running Congress to exercise partisan rule by executive order with added tax and enormous regulatory burdens that has stifled the very spirit of enterprise and punished the middle class;

On the world scene Obama leaves us –

  • on the brink of global wars in separate theaters with two threatening nuclear hegemons Russia and China;
  • with authoritarians on the rise as not seen since the 1930s on the eve of WW2;
  • an existential “tide of war” doing anything but “receding”, with Russia dominant in the Mideast and China expanding in the Far East, and radical Islam’s terror today spread throughout the west;
  • with a debilitated military in disarray now challenged daily in international air and waters in ways unthinkable a few years ago;
  • with allies forsaken, dejected, and apprehensive about America’s stated objective to relinquish its leadership and withdraw into some undefined global peerage.

To illustrate the desperate attempt to resuscitate his legacy, Mr Obama will remain as his own chief promoter and activist in the nation’s capital while his remaining loyalists do everything in their power to divert national attention from the damage in his wake.  Coming into office as the ‘great unifier’, the most destructive gift President Obama leaves us is a country deeply divided.  As the WSJ summarized – It “is not that Mr Obama lacked good intentions or political gifts.  Few Presidents have entered office with so much goodwill.  The lesson is that progressive policies won’t work when they abjure the realities of economic incentives at home and the necessity of American leadership abroad.”

And now we await the tender mercies of the Trump administration, a Republican Congress, and a soon to be right-leaning Supreme Court.  They all are sailing into a gale already raging at home and abroad.

My name is Rebane, and I also expand on this and related themes on Rebane’s Ruminations where the addended transcript of this commentary is posted, and where such issues are debated extensively.  However my views are not necessarily shared by KVMR.  Thank you for listening.

[Addendum]  With unusual vigor and breadth, the Left is mobilizing across the land to oppose Trump and the Republicans.  On the day after President Trump’s inauguration we are told that there will be at least a couple of hundred thousand leftwing women on the National Mall demonstrating their opposition to the new president and the Republican Congress.  These demonstrations comprised of very disappointed and determined women will be replicated locally in numerous communities.

Here in Nevada County the usually somnambulant Democrat women have awakened and organized themselves to join their sisters in Sacramento on the steps of the capitol.  On cue local lackey leftwing blogs have gotten into gear to support the anti-Trump efforts, identifying county Republican women’s organizations as “stodgy” and incentivizing “right-wing bullies in the local blogosphere”.

And lately our own Union has been overwhelmed by trash Trump pieces in its op-ed and letters sections.  I don’t see anything in this county coming together other than butted heads during the foreseeable future.  But there is hope that the county’s residents will pull off another ‘2016 surprise’ as the self-anointed local Left continues busy patting itself on the back while it makes harder for businesses to locate here and middle class families to make our county their new home.

Finally, the confirmation circus in Washington is in full swing.  The Dems struck out on AG-designate Sessions and are now doubling down on ex-Exxon/Mobile CEO as the next SecState.  Their claimed leverage to torpedo him is a set of ‘toady friend of Russia’ allegations which did not stick in today’s hearing.  Holman Jenkins clears up the fake news surrounding the allegations in his ‘Exxon vs Russia Illusions’.  Before hyperventilating, it’s worth a read.

    Yeah….he hasn’t been particularly dazzling the past few days…. but hey every president exists primarily to burnish the reputation of his predecessor and it’s going to take a shit ton of serious Deep Dish Chicago Style fuck-uppery to make Sugar Frosted Barry O’s look good to history!
    Maybe god sent Trump for just this purpose!

    In my mind if T Rex allowed himself to be goaded into calling the head of state a war criminal after which he had to negotiate with that state, then he would not be a fit SecState for us. Take a moment to think about it.

    The Obama Legacy. Where to begin?
    1)We started with our lovely First Lady saying this was the first time in her life she was proud to be an American and ended the Obama Presidency by saying her lost her hope. Translation: She was proud because her husband won and lost hope when America rejected her husband’s policies. It was all about the Obamas in a nutshell. Perfect bookends to a failed Presidency.
    2). Obamacare: Obama’s crown jewel is unraveling under its own weight. The treats were front loaded and the biggest jacked up taxes to pay for it do not kick in until 2018-2020 after Obama is long gone from office. The Cadillac Tax, the employer mandate, the employer penalties will kick in, throwing workers off employer sponsored health insurance and making the perk of having good benefits very expensive for the employee. The entire Affordable Care Act is headed to insolvency without immediate action (money) from Congress to keep it afloat as written. The ACA was written with the projected GDP growth rate of 4-5% now and 6% plus in outlier years.
    3) President Obama has become the first and only President in US history for preside over an economy that never had one single year of GDP of at least 3%. That is a span over two centuries plus two score and includes 43 Presidents.
    4) Perhaps Obama’s greatest accomplishment was providing the catalyst for the election of Donald J Trump.
    5) Another achievement of Obama’s legacy came in the final weeks in office when Russia was declared such a threat to democracy that Obama’s party sought to overturn a free and fair election to prove it.

    Oh wow – the poodle has shown up to let us know that some folks don’t like Trump.
    Say Paul – tell us what has Trump actually done that people don’t like.
    Silence.
    How about a poll of productive folks not on the govt dole that like or dislike Trump.
    Silence.
    Paul – like a lot of folks – is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that Donald Trump is the new president.
    Paul can’t bring anything to the table to show us that Trump is anywhere near as corrupt as any other POTUS or would be POTUS, but he just doesn’t like Trump.
    So Paul yips and yaps about any small little thing he can bring here.
    An amusing little whine.

    The question was why don’t people like Trump. He is the least liked incoming President elect in recorded history and Obama is the most liked President leaving office even greater than Reagan yet Trump won the election. That is a an enigma that I don’t have a grasp on. How do you explain that?

    Okay not the inventor of fake news but certainly the master of it. Claiming Obama was not a legal citizen and that he is a Muslim was one of his masterworks. He is a pathological liar and will say anything to get in the press then completely change his story a week later. Kellyane Conway herself says don’t believe what he he says. He will say anything to get in the media. He denied the Russians were involved in the hacks then changes his story completly a week later. I can go on and on but you get the idea.

    Trump is well liked by those that were not polled. Paul Emery, you are so funny. And Byron York had a great piece today in the Union about the “hacking”. I reviewed Trump’s response to did the Russians hack and he said yes and so did others. Not a sure thing there Paul Emery.
    Trump is kicking ass with the fake news people of which I include you. It is going to be a great ride.

    Trump plays the media and the haters’ heads like no one else. He is the master at that, no doubt. Yep, Trump did say he thinks the Russians and other governments and others also did some hacking. He thinks….play it Mr Trump. Yep, high confidence, (CIA) likely (NYT) thinks(Trump) …”allegedly” is what the press calls the Russian hacks even today, lol.
    When Trump plays the feeble minded like a finely tuned Stradivari, its like a dog whistle to them and they start hyperventilating before howling at the moon. Hey, look over there…no, over here….no, over yonder. Like watching the monkeys writing a novel. Priceless.

    Quote of the day:
    “Even former Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., who confesses proudly to having traduced the reputation of a previous presidential candidate with a clear lie, declined to repeat these latest unverified allegations about Trump, after he, too, saw the document that contained them last year. Think about that. Reid, who famously stooped to slander Mitt Romney, handled the dossier more ethically than BuzzFeed’s editorial team.” —Washington Examiner

    The Left Hates Trump Because His Victory Was A Cultural One, Not Just A Political One:
    Thomas Lifson:
    The left is used to losing political battles. They scream and cry over these but they don’t truly panic, because they know that as long as they maintain their hammerlock on the culture, Republicans can’t really change anything.
    Blue Team Progressivism is a church, offering you moral superiority and a path to spiritual enlightenment. As a church it’s got a lot going for it. It runs religious programming on television, all day every day. Every modern primetime program is like a left-wing Andy Griffith show, reinforcing lessons of inclusion, tolerance, feminism, and anti-racism.
    Watching a 90-pound Sci-Fi heroine beat up a room full of giant evil men is as satisfying to the left as John Wayne westerns were for the right.
    The Blue Church controls the HR department, so even if you don’t go to church, you have to act like a loyal churchgoer in every way that matters while you’re on the clock. And off the clock, on any kind of public social media platform.
    Jon Stewart and John Oliver are basically TV preachers. Watching them gives the same sense of quiet superiority your grandma gets from watching The 700 Club. The messages are constantly reinforced, providing that lovely dopamine hit, like an angel’s voice whispering, “You’re right, you’re better, you’re winning.”
    Hollywood award shows are like church talent shows – the skits and jokes aren’t really funny, but it’s fun to look at the pretty girls, and you’re all on the same team. . . .
    For the first time in decades, voters explicitly rejected the Blue Church, defying hours of daily cultural programming, years of indoctrination from the schools, and dozens of explicit warnings from HR.
    We’ve been trained since childhood to obey the pretty people on TV, but for the first time in decades, that didn’t work.
    Donald Trump won because flyover America wants their culture back, and Blue Team has not been rejected like that before.
    The younger ones have grown up in an environment where Blue Faith assumptions cannot even be questioned, except anonymously by the bad kids on Twitter.
    But now the bad kids are getting bolder, posting funny memes that make you laugh even though John Oliver would not approve, like passing crude dirty pictures under the table in Sunday School.
    Meryl Streep is panicking because for the first time voters have rejected HER, and everything her faith has taught her to believe.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/01/why_the_left_hates_trump_so_intensely.html
    I have been trying to fathom the huge emotional outburst from the left; the election was only politics which waxes and wanes like the pendulous movement of a grandfather clock. The election of Trump touched a much deeper nerve in the progressive brain, a more in-depth understanding that years of preparation now foiled by an un-Republican enemy that was not even on their horizon. Lifson has provided some valuable insight into why the progressive are acting like wacky loons, as they search for answers that seem to be just beyond their reach.

    Russ, fantastic post.
    A few days ago I heard someone say something like “they feel threatened. They don’t know why or can they put their finger on it, but they feel it.”
    They feel it. They sense it in their very core. It’s not a general sense of uneasiness in the air. No, whatever they sense, it is settling down on them individually, each and every one. They feel their walls are tumbling down around them.
    Yes, they search for answers beyond their reach. They are trying to catch the wind. Perhaps they sense they are naked and exposed, vulnerable and unarmed and their safe place is no longer safe.
    Their instincts tell they to fight or flee, but flee to where? Fight who? Right now they are focused on The Donald, yet cannot fathom how he could of won or who put him over the top. How could this have happened? How? The answers elude them. Perhaps they sense that nagging dread they were born with and have spent their entire lives avoiding and insulationing themselves from……the fear of Judgement Day.
