   Statewide, legalization of marijuana may be the biggest story, albeit we all knew this was coming and surprised no one. Still, a big story. The San Bernardino massacre of 14 people happened on 12/02/2015, being just 12 months ago, but did not happen in 2016. I have often wondered how the 22 people injured are doing. We remember the number of those murdered at the Holiday Party (and the other shootings like at the Pulse), but fail to dwell on the 22 wounded, some paralyzed or wheelchair bound for life.
   The national Story of the Year may be that Dems reelected as Minority Leader after losing at net of 1,030 state, governor, and Congressional seats under her watch. That is mind blowing. Or, maybe the story is the Clinton Machine was finally defeated against all odds. A impossible task as the Machine had the highest levels of government, the MSM, foreign powers. Kings, world leaders, Shieks, and Wall Street all in their back pocket.
   Or, perhaps Briexit was the big story as it portended the rest of the year and the next year.

   No Todd the Reinette story has a short shelf life. Beyond a doubt the biggest story locally of the year is the complete routing of Measure W (60-40 no) add the Blue takeover in Nevada County with the big win in District 1 with Heidi Hall and the strong support for Hillary over Trump and support for Measure 64, There are now more registered Dems than Repubs so this is officially a Blue County. That’s a big story because it has lasting value. In two years the Dems will have a majority in the Supes needing only one victory in two races which should be easy because of the candidates that are expected to run.

   No Paul, you have it wrong as usual. Hillary won a plurality not a majority. But Gregory has schooled you on that and you are in denial. Measure W I will give you that one. The democrats have taken over Truckee big time and that explains the plurality in te county. But that 20% indie group is more right than left. Hall won the District One race becasue Duane did not campaign. And you surprise me with your partisan democrat support for a non partisan office. Kinda hypocritical after all your BS about that over the years. And yes, as a state we have lost our minds. More taxes, more regulation but faster on the death penalty! So a mixed bag. Locally, most city council members are R’s. Supes, R’s. Assemblyman a R. Congressmen, R’s. State Senate, R. President R. So try hareder to convince yourself. But with every post you make we see your true allegiance. Socilaist democrtat.

   Todd I called two of the last three Presidentials on the number. Makes me 2 out of 3. You are 1 for 3 Todd.
   Nevada County is a Blue County whether you like it or not. Talk to any real estate agent and they will tell you the Retired Republicans are moving out to be closer to hospitals and their kids and they are being replaced by Liberals and Democrats who are attracted to Nevada County because of the environment and culture. That shows in the decline of Republicans who voted in the last election from the Retirement communities. They are still majority Republican but the percent has declined in the last 8 years. Truckee is solid Democrat as is District 1, Nevada City. that leaves only the Grass Valley District 3 and the Ridge-Penn Valley District 4 combo both of which are going to have strong candidates. We are trying to attract Tech industry and it is established thought that those workers are inclined to be Liberal and Democrats.
   You won’t accept this but who cares.

    Gregory is wrong. I don’t need his tutoring on this one. Doesn’t matter anyway. Todd will have to accept this reality in two years when the Dems have a majority on the Supes. Dan Miller is not very popular and only won by 200 four years ago and has done little to gain new followers especially when he said “anyone who opposed Measure W was an idiot” or words to that effect. “W” lost by 20 points district so I guess he has a majority of voters he considers idiots in his district.
    The Ridge and Penn Valley are deeply invested in Cannibus agriculture and will pick a candidate accordingly. Measure w lost by 15 in Penn Valley. the only area in that district to support W was Wildwood and that was only by around 5%.
    Looks grim Todd for the Republicans. the tide has turned in Nevada County. No point in continuing the discussion at this point.

    The New York co-chair of President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign made racist and sexist comments about first lady Michelle Obama in a recent interview, suggesting that she was really a man and should live in Africa.
    In an interview with ArtVoice published Friday, Carl Paladino said that in 2017 the thing he would most like to see go away was Michelle Obama.
    “I’d like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla,” he said.
    Asked what he would like to see happen in 2017, Paladino wished death on President Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett, one of Obama’s senior advisers.
    “Obama catches mad cow disease after being caught having relations with a Herford [sic]. He dies before his trial and is buried in a cow pasture next to Valerie Jarret [sic], who died weeks prior, after being convicted of sedition and treason, when a Jihady [sic] cell mate mistook her for being a nice person and decapitated her,” Paladino said.

    Hillary won three districts in Nevada County Todd. She won by 5% over Trump which is considered a landslide. Carried Truckee, Nevada City and Grass Valley districts.
    Nevada County is a Blue County Todd. Deal with it or move north. Lots of good deals in Modoc County where you’ll feel more comfortable with the politics.

    Paul, barely (47/43) winning isn’t much of a local mandate, isn’t a “landslide” victory by any stretch of the imagination, and there wasn’t much in the way of meaningful contests for GOP voters to get excited about. No chance to make a difference for President, and a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat for Senate. Safe seats for State pols. How many didn’t even show up?

I have asked for a precinct by precinct database from Diaz. You claim Hillary won GV, NC and Truckee yet there is no page in this link that says that. So where di you get your info?

    OK, I went there and it is pretty cool. I added p all the Truckee area votes and here are the totals. And it backs me up.
    Hillary 4722 71%
    Trump 1862 29%
    Difference 2860 and the total diffence on election night was 2600
    So you see the Truckee area contains the difference in votes for the county registration numbers. Gosh Paul, sorry to bash your fake news.

    Paul Emery, I don’t dispute Hillary won NC and GV and District One. They are the core liberal bastions. Always were. My election and then DaveT and ChristineF and later NateB (All R’s)show district One can vary. Van Zant was a outlier. Now we have liberal Hall.
    Nevada County reminds me of the national election somewhat. Libs in the city, R’s in the country.

    Easy to explain. He ran against Terry Lamphier who was a controversial candidate even then. Dan brought years of public service on the City Council to the election. Correct me if I’m wrong but I recall Dan only won by a couple hundred votes.

    What I believe Todd is that Nevada County is going through a change of demographics as I detailed earlier. Nevada City and Truckee districts are solid Dem as we speak and GV is ready to flip in the next election. I mean we’ve had Jim Weir, Dem Fran Gratten Repub, Bruce Conklin Dem, Drew Bedwell Repub, John Spencer Repub, Terry Lamphier Dem, Dan Miller Repub
    Probably left a couple out. this is all from Memory.
    GV flips around like no other District. In my view it’s ready to go Dem next time around. GV retail interests campaigned against W because of the drastic effects on retail banning cultivation would cause. |That is likely to be a big issue in two years as well
    I am not expressing a personal preference in this matter only observing and speculating on the parade.

    NC, GV and Truckee are always democrat Paul. What kept the county red was the rural areas. I was whipped good both times by the voters of NC but still won as we moved out and ended in Chicago Park. That held until Van Zant. Then back to a R until Hall. I remember when Karsten Hansen won by 8 votes over Marianne Slade-Troutman. I think he beat her again by 13. He was a very conservative man of GV.
    You can guess all you want but you and yours were wiped out at most all levels up tp President. I am a happy guy. Your picking winners for the future is ridiculous.

    The other issue that was important to me was Prop 64 won big and earlier Measure W lost in a landslide.
    NC, GV and Truckee are three out of five districts Todd. Glad you finally agree with me that Nevada County is a Blue County.

    Todd you must have not looked at the voting map I provided you. If you did you would have seen that Hillary won in almost all of District 1 and the Grass VAlley district 3 with the exception of a large very rural area between here and Truckee. Trump won in the south county a Penn Valley and Wildwood.
