Don’t be so sure – the Clintons still have goodness knows how many millions in their ‘foundation’. A healthy percentage of Americans would still vote for either one tomorrow for pres and they know where soooo many bodies are buried. I know it will never be like Nixon. Everyone wrote him off after the loss in California, but he was a lot younger. This was it for Hillary as an elected official (I think) but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see her pop up here and there on the news media and there is always Chelsea and the grandchild to groom as successors.
I don’t care if O pardons her but I would like to see a full and complete opening of the books on her reign at the State Dept. Of course the books are in a king hell shredder as I type and I fear another round of hard drive failures is looming.
Lets take our pleasures as they come to us. Life is short and history always takes the long view. (of the winner)

Trump isn’t even President yet, but his policies are already paying dividends.
Reports of illegals already headed home, manufacturing deciding that moving to Mexico isn’t the hot idea it used to be, the dollar is stronger, and LIBS are nutting up more than usual. The dis-information game LIB news is playing, just ain’t working.
It’s time to kick back and watch. This is where I say,, “Called this one!”

Walt, today I heard a word that I had to look up. It’s called magnanimous. Means we won, but just don’t gloat. We mustn’t treat sick people that way. Ah, what the hay, be a prick and screw them. They are about to do the Bork thang on Senator Jeff Sessions and I will certainly have a ball with that. Sessions single handedly broke the back of the KKK in Alabama and that nice 20 million fine he slapped on them after the death penalty(?) conviction of their leader put them out of business. Bork Jeff Sessions to test Trump to if Trump knuckles under like a normal Prez. Or, just cause they are despicable people. Bring it on. Oh,….did you know the KKK smokes pot? Learn something new every day.

Well my brother Walt, then let it all out. A decade or more of taking it does have a way of building up. Every time we were nice and went along to get along, they got more vile, more crazy with hate, more drunk with power, more arrogant and condenscending. Here, let me join ya if I may:
The Left wants a living breathing Constitution so they can abort it.
Now they are upset that they do not get to tell us who to put in the cabinet. Hey, Leftists, you have no say in who the NSA dude is. Don’t need confirmation. Heard he called Islam a cancer that hides behind religion. That is how to win friends and influence people. :). Next they will be bitching that there are too many men in the inner circle, not enough women and brown folks and no tranny babies. They are real pissed that we haven’t played nice (yet) per usual and put one of them Stalinists or Maoists to head a department or two. Boy, what ever got into us?? Bad Righties, bad!

George,
I think more than anything it is those like yourself and like minded thinkers to get on board. What we have seen are those on the “supposedly left” will not disrupt their comfortable lifestyles to enact change. They wrap it up in a bunch of feel good language and continue the same policies.
The solution is simple but the implementation is very hard, we need to change the way the entire population looks at our miracle of a planet as our only boat and change the incentives that promotes sustainable practices. In other words we need to reenter into the cycle and stop trying to dominate it.
Hard work put towards this goal will achieve a more equitable global population while beginning to repair the damage our well intentioned but ultimately long term failure of industrial revolution practices.
Please take an hour and watch this film, I think you’ll find it very interesting at the least. Despite my overall dislike of the World Bank I do have to hand this project and most likely many more like it to them. Kudos and we much much more like it. Hope you take the time.

Well said, Ben – every child in the govt school system in the US is probably learning to recite something very much like that. You forgot to add the part about correcting the evils of the white males, but I’m sure that part will be added in somewhere.
As soon as I hear anyone say that ‘we need to change our thinking’ I suspect it will involve thinking exactly like the person doing the talking.
I’m sure you mean well and we can certainly agree broadly on a number of well-intentioned goals, but I suspect your path to these goals will somehow involve transferring my labor and wealth to other parties who will decide for me the best use of our resources.
The left stubbornly refuses to take into account that you are dealing with human nature.

City Journal is solidly on the right but always with an interesting take.
I think it was someone here who provided a link to a survey of academic disciplines and their politics; if that person could again furnish a link I’d be grateful.
One of the more interesting pidgeonholes was astrophysics, virtually all left wing, nearing 99 44/100 %… incredible. I can think of one exception, Willie Soon of Harvard/Smithsonian infamy… but Soon has also been a major target of folks that hate his rejection of climate change dogma, and some of the best known warmistas have been astrophysicists large (James Hansen, PhD, formerly of NASS-GISS) and small (James Cook, proprietor of the wretchedly misnamed Skeptical Science, a BS in astrophysics but now a PhD in physical science free climate propaganda).

“America didn’t get what it expected, but perhaps it got what it deserved, good and hard. Daddy’s in the house and he busted straight into the nursery and now the little ones are squalling in horror. Mommy was discovered to be a grifting old jade who ran the household into a slum and she’s been turned out to solemnly await the judgment of the courts, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. The kids on campus have gone temporarily insane over this domestic situation and some wonder if they’ll ever get over it.
Trump as The USA’s Daddy? Well, yeah. Might he turn out to be a good daddy? A lot of people worry that he can’t be. Look how he behaved on the campaign trail: no behavioral boundaries… uccchhh. He even lurches as he walks, like Frankenstein. Not very reassuring — though it appears that somehow he raised up a litter of high-functioning kids of his own. Not a tattoo or an earplug among them. No apparent gender confusion. All holding rather responsible positions in the family business. Go figure….
Judging from the internal recriminations among Democratic Party partisans playing out in the newspapers, it’s as if they all woke up simultaneously from a hypnotic trance realizing what an absolute dud they put up for election in Hillary Clinton — and even beyond that obvious matter, how deeply absurd Democratic ideology had become with its annoying victimology narrative, the incessant yammer about “diversity” and “inclusion,” as if pixie dust were the sovereign remedy for a national nervous breakdown. But can they move on from there? I’m not so sure.
For all practical purposes, both traditional parties have blown themselves up. The Democratic Party morphed from the party of thinking people to the party of the thought police, and for that alone they deserve to be flushed down the soil pipe of history where the feckless Whigs went before them. The Republicans have floundered in their own Special Olympics of the Mind for decades, too, so it’s understandable that they have fallen hostage to such a rank outsider as Trump, so cavalier with the party’s dumb-ass shibboleths. It remains to be seen whether the party becomes a vengeful, hybrid monster with an orange head, or a bridge back to reality. I give the latter outcome a low percentage chance.
Mommy is all about feelings and Daddy’s role is action and that is another reason that Hillary lost and Trump won. We’ve heard enough about people’s feelings and it just doesn’t matter anymore. You’re offended? Suck an egg. Someone appropriated your culture? Go shit in your sombrero. What matters is how we’re going to contend with the winding down of Modernity — the techno-industrial orgy that is losing its resource and money mojo. The politics of sacred victimhood has got to yield to the politics of staying alive.
President-elect Trump may not know it yet, but events are now in charge, not personalities, not even his super-sized persona. Global trade and economic activity have been winding down all year and it’s finally affecting financial markets kept aloft on borrowed money, sending a strong signal through bonds that the borrowed money may never be paid down, and that additional borrowing will cost a whole lot more — so much more that it will bankrupt the nations that issue it.
That alone will make it difficult for a President Trump to scare up the ready cash for the infrastructure-rebuilding fiesta so many expect. And if he does manage to flush the funding out of the banking thickets, it is liable to carry an inflationary bird flu that will end up killing money all around the world. We won’t be worrying about Trans Pacific Partnerships anymore because letters-of-credit will be unavailable to move large shipments of anything from Point A to Point B. How long after that will it be before the supermarket shelves empty down? And in the event, what will the dollar buy?
It looks like the shit sandwich President Obama has carefully prepared and left in the White House pantry for his successor will take the form of inflation, the dying of your money — or, at least, paper currency. Or, if it doesn’t die outright, prepare for the possibility that you might not be able to get your hands on it, as money markets gate their exits and banks restrict cash withdrawals.
Though it’s clearly a loser strategy now, I suspect that the ragged remains of the Democratic Party will persist in amping up their sacred identity grievances to the point of civil strife without ever understanding the economic dynamics in motion. They don’t know what else to do. Plus, they are captives of the poverty policy racketeers. I also suspect that neither Mr. Obama or Mr. Trump will get around to pardoning Hillary Clinton for the racketeering operation of her foundation, of which the private email server was the least issue — rather, the arrant sale of influence and access to the State Department is the heart of the matter, and anyone paying attention knows it, including the incoming Attorney General. If that circus comes to town, Trump could benefit from the distraction it offers the public.
There’s a lot of talk on the Net about Strauss and Howe’s “Fourth Turning” taking stage now. That excellent book, published twenty years ago, posits the turbulent end of 80-year generational cycles in history. (Blogger Jim Quinn lays it out nicely this week at The Burning Platform). Previous Fourth Turning presidents Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt took the nation through epic bloodbaths and economic dislocation. Donald Trump in terms of demeanor is no Lincoln and no FDR. But he did raise up those children of his somehow, and that’s all we’ve got to go on for the moment.

A reading of the transcript of Trump’s interview with the New York Times clearly shows that he has backed off his flat-out campaign assertion that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese.
Trump said at least twice during the interview that he has an “open mind” on the subject of climate change and that he will look carefully at the Paris agreement. You can massage it anyway you like, but it won’t change what he said.
I’m willing to bet the EPA will be here four years from now and Trump will have to find that $30 billion somewhere else to build his “big, beautiful” wall.

Mr Boardman, did you actually read the transscript? I agree that Mr Trump said he had an open mind, meaning that he is willing to look at both sides of the argument, but is already concerned given the fraud reveiled in the ClimateGate Emails. I would not put too much in what Trump says, and watch his actions. He made it clear he was going to strip NASA of their Earth Science Mission which focuses on global temperature mantoring and return NASA focus to it’s deep space mission. Watch and see who he selects to lead the EPA, it is looking like some stong anti-anthopogenice global warming scientists are being considered. Lets see if you and the left keep an open mind.
