People who don’t agree with the Left are bigots and racists – Progressive mantra
Alt-Right?? Does anyone know what that is? I might throw in ‘white nationalist’ for good measure as another pejorative label that is heavily bandied about in the media today. Perusing the usual sources provides little resolution since no one seems to agree, and most sources use citations such as “It is said that …”. Who are the sayers, what is their imprimatur, and whom do they represent?
In this milieu (and/or melee?) if I had to hang such a label around my neck, it would be ‘Western Nationalist’. Since I am above all 1) a child, student, and defender of western culture, and 2) believe that the Westphalian order of sovereign nation-states is the best structure for governing human civilization at its current stage of development.
In the 16nov16 Union a Mr Eric Robins urges the US to make nice and trust Iran, else Iran will not trust us and continue being bad. Unfortunately the gentleman has missed a considerable number of news cycles, and suffers under a definitely one-sided understanding of history. Yes, we did help topple a duly elected, communist-tending Iranian government, and installed our own puppet during the depth of the Cold War. But Iran’s hatred of us today goes much deeper than that little imbroglio – Islam’s global aims will not be achieved with the US remaining the west’s dominant culture and a world hegemon. Japan and Germany quickly learned to trust us and we them after we whumped them in WW2 – a war they started. Iran’s and fundamental Islam’s problem is that if they opt for peaceful rapprochement with us and the West, their culture will quickly become yesterday’s newspaper – and they are willing to sacrifice ALL to prevent that. Recall that (fundamentalist) Islam is an end-timer religion about a millennium behind Christianity (another end-timer religion) in the development of its world view.
The new appointed head of US Catholic bishops is described as an “immigration rights advocate”; now doesn’t that sound nice in a land that was settled and fought over by immigrants since Asians crossed the Siberian/Alaska land bridge? As I have railed for years, without much success (cf. Overstreet’s ‘stubborn ounces’ poem), not differentiating between immigrants and illegal entrants continues to perpetuate a cynical miscommunication across our land. The correct appellation for the Catholic appointee would be ‘illegal alien rights advocate’.
Hear about Portland's new wage law that its city council is prepared to pass? Business taxes would be raised by 10% and 25% on the city’s businesses if their CEO-to-median worker wage ratios exceed 100 and 250 respectively. It’s another butt stupid progressive attempt to help their equally afflicted constituents. All this will do is reduce the city’s count of job creating businesses, and motivate the remaining to get rid of their low paid workers that the ordinance is supposed to help. And these guys still think of themselves as the smart party.
[Later] Moonbeam again flunks the governors’ ratings by getting an ‘F’ in libertarian think tank Cato Institute’s annual ‘Fiscal Report Card of America’s Governor’s’. (BTW, three Repubs joined seven Dems in getting Fs.) Brown’s accomplishments included continued spending on the astronomically expensive ‘high speed rail’ which we now discover will have its massive operating losses also covered by taxpayers. His state budget increases continue out of control – 15.7% over the last two years with “more than 5.7% set for 2017”. Tax increases are piled on motorists with a new $65 annual per vehicle fee and ever increasing gasoline taxes. Extension of sunsetting tax increases (‘… we were just kidding folks.’), and continued basing of 50% state revenues on our 1% wealthiest keeps the state on the precipice of its next fiscal crash. And that’s just for openers for how our progressive elites (who now have a super majority in the Assembly) will continue to exact tribute from the rest of us to pay for illegal alien programs, higher public employee benefits (SEIU strike pending), and votes from their cadres of double dummies.
