RR has long maintained that not all franchised American citizens should exercise their right to vote (e.g. here). For the good of our republic, they should just stay home, watch, learn, and prepare themselves for the next election. As a public service we again issue the same appeal to all voters on the margin, and offer here a simpler, updated voter test that can be auto-administered.
Dear reader, please don’t vote if you …
- Are not a franchised US citizen;
- Need this test to be translated into your native tongue;
- Don’t know the three branches of our federal government and how they are supposed to work together;
- Don’t know the main sources of government revenues;
- Don’t know the difference between deficit and debt;
- Don’t know what GDP is or what it measures;
- Don’t know who are your congressional representatives and their political parties;
- Don’t know what are the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution;
- Don’t know why Muslim terrorists willingly sacrifice their lives for Islam;
- Can’t tell the difference between a million, a billion, and a trillion;
- Can’t do arithmetic – add, subtract, multiply, or divide without a calculator;
- Don’t know on what planet you live;
- Believe that any of the above deficits are acceptable for a 21st century American voter.
[8nov16 update] Happy election day! And here’s what we’re talking about in this post as Dr Walter Williams reminds us in his ‘The Astonishing Ignorance of Young Adults’. These people definitely should stay out of the voting booths and devote the time to some remedial book learning.
How America has ideologically wandered off track is dissected by another nationally known black scholar, Dr Shelby Steele. In ‘Trump, Clinton and the Culture of Deference’ he describes the rise of America’s guilt and the Left’s co-opting the role as the champion of our redemption, while it implements policies that assure continuing victimization and teach its victims to demand eternal protection from the ‘assaults’ of the Right.

No – I didn’t stay up all night. I’m up early to hit the road in a few minutes. Just checked and it seems like the Rs have the House and Senate as well as POTUS.
My thought here is that if the results hold and The Donald becomes our next president, how ironic that the Dems thought they were so clever to ‘nudge’ the Rs into nominating a clown Hillary could wipe the floor with. Instead they helped to push forward probably the only R that could take on Hillary and beat her.
To paraphrase the Bard Of Avon: “hoisted by her own petard”. One of my father’s favorite quotes.

Not surprising – I’m still running into people who say that Obama isn’t a citizen, Trump was right about this birtherism, and The Clintons are the other side of the Mafia. Republican Ignorance is bliss – happy days.
But how is that possible? We’ve heard for the last 8 years that the Republicans were little more than an ineffectual rump party cowering before the progressive political juggernaut!
Trump doesn’t win without disaffected democrats and independents….how bout a little internal party discipline “Chip”?

Good point Barry @ 8:05am. We do have some trust issues. Well, not only did Trump wipe the Bush Dynasty off the table, he also wiped the Clinton Dynasty off the table. The White House is still reeling from the punch Obamas took right into his gut. This time he cannot say he was representing the people who did not vote.
The hardest thing for the Bushes, the RNC, the elites, academia, Obama, the Clintons, and Paul Krugman to wrap their heads around is that the fact that the American people actually wanted Trump. That is a bitter pill to swallow. We wanted a street fighting man. We wanted a brawling bare knuckle fighter not to bloody some noses and break some teeth, but to knock the entire Establishment out cold in the street and let the fowl of the air eat the entails. Why? Because they all forgot who they work for, who they must be held accountable to.
Enjoy today. Do not be fooled. The Boardmans and Pauls and Fatsos of the world will only redouble their efforts to call us Nazis and racists and ignorant bitter clingers foolishly yearning for a bygone era. Guess what? Latest polls show Americans really do want a 50’s life, it’s their dream. I kid you not. Not a political poll. It’s what the American voter wants and the Great White Father in Washington only ridiculed them, us, and you. Pride cometh before a fall.
Oh, Dr. Rebane: You stood your ground because you are rooted and grounded in principle. Good job. However, I have a minor point of looking at it a different way. When the darkest hour was upon us and Hilary was going to run the table and the Dems were going to take the Senate, possibly qtake back the House of Representatives, flip Texas and destroy the Right for good (never to return) just 2-3 weeks ago, I posted a call to arms. You asked if I was still firing volleys from the Alamo? Hmmmmm. Perhaps, just perhaps, it was the all powerful Clinton/Obama Campaign that was firing volleys from the Alamo and we deplorables were Santa Ana’s army surrounding the outpost. That battle only took 90 minutes when all was said and done.
I feel like I have been carpet bombed. The nasty libs will be attacking before dawn. The price of liberty is everlasting vigilance. You guys party hardy today. I will take a poke around, scout out the perimeter, and keep an watchful eagle eye out for any bushwackers. There is much evil out there that do not have our best interest in mind. 🙂

My big election worry was 3 to 5 Clinton SCOTUS nominees over the next 4 to 8 years, but it appears the next two years are clear sailing, with McConnell smelling like a rose over his action denying Garland the Scalia seat.
No people, that wasn’t unprecedented… Tyler’s nominees were on ice for years while the Senate waited for a President who would nominate justices they could confirm and Tyler had a Senate of his own party.

I suspect Trump will be making deals with former adversaries.
I also suspect Obama is regretting blowing off Congress and not giving in some to get legislative deals done. Instead, he relied on bullying folks on the phone and making Executive Orders where he could get his way. As a result, much of the Obama legacy may well be reversed in the first days of the Trump presidency as it only takes an Executive Order to reverse an earlier Executive Order.

First, less than half of Nevada County voters cast their vote for Hillary, so it’s probably a stretch to for the local left to declare the county “Blue”.
Measure B failed; just couldn’t muster 55% for a large bond measure to pay for what used to be normal operating expenses taken out of expected revenues… to me it smelled more like the usual ploy to break out from the entity (in this case, the local high school district) that can be be sold as being necessary so an equal amount of money in the budget can be freed up for less politically salable reasons. For example, a huge bond issue to shore up an underfunded pension obligation (that may or may not be an issue here) would get even more pushback than fixing the roof and having clean water fountains.
Similarly, a regressive increase in local sales taxes for the library is an easier sell than higher sales taxes for salary bonuses at the Rude Center. How did we gave libraries before? The forces of good government at the city and county level budgeted for them and fundraisers were held to bolster that funding.

AI Predicted Trump
MogIA, an artificial intelligence system and election predictor, has successfully predicted its fourth election in a row.
The system, which learns in real-time by examining data on the internet, placed its bets on Donald Trump to win the 2016 US Presidential Election in October after also successfully predicting both the Democratic and Republican party primaries.
“If Trump loses, it will defy the data trend for the first time in the last 12 years since Internet engagement began in full earnest,” said MogIA’s developer Sanjiv Rai in October, who then was still unaware of the certainty of a Trump win.
“If you look at the primaries, in the primaries, there were immense amount of negative conversations that happen with regards to Trump,” he continued. “However, when these conversations started picking up pace, in the final days, it meant a huge game opening for Trump and he won the Primaries with a good margin.”
In October, Rai declared that Trump’s social media engagement had overtaken that of Barack Obama’s in 2008 by 25%, foreshadowing a Republican victory on November 8th.
