FtSumterI want to get this post up in a timely manner for tonight’s last debate of the most fractious political season since the Confederates finally decided to open fire on Ft Sumter.  In my decades I have never seen the country so frustrated and choose our candidates so unwisely.  For the Left, the years of revisionist education in unionized government schools has finally paid off.  My fear is that we will look back on the advent of Obama as our Ft Sumter.

Tonight we are having debate night with friends at Casa Rebane.  A big fire in the fireplace, hot pizza and crisp salad, with freshly baked apple pie.  And all washed down with appropriate amounts of martoonis and other libations to satisfy the anticipated need for analgesics and anesthesia.  Hope you all are also fortifying yourselves for a night to remember.  More after we recover whatever wits remain after the debate.

[Later]  Well, save for accepting the results of the election, the Donald did himself proud against Hillary, who was wooden and prerecorded.  Trump’s correct answer should have been, ‘Chris, of course I’ll accept the election results like everyone else in the country; unless, of course, something real smelly turns up.  At that time I would look at our legal options and take appropriate actions.  What would you do instead?’

[20oct16 update]  Looks like the whole country has discovered and succumbed to a new clinical condition that affects the masses, Hanging Chad Amnesia.

But the good news is that another tenet of the Left’s belief system has leaked out in Queen Hillary’s response to Trump’s “wavering” on pre-accepting election results.  She was all agog at the notion – “That’s horrifying.  That is not the way our democracy works!”

But of course that is exactly how our democracy works.  For over two centuries our elections have been contested by a free people when they suspected that something wasn’t right.  The uncountable recounts and court challenges are part and parcel of the glorious history of our democratic republic.  It is under collectivist authoritarian regimes in which the results of elections – no matter how unbelievable – are accepted quietly by the unsuccessful candidates and a compliant public.

And only our Left maintains that our elections have a miniscule record of voter fraud.  In the process they accuse thousands of volunteer poll workers of lying over the years when these have submitted reports of tens of voters with the same address, the long dead voters, voting in multiple jurisdictions, more votes for one candidate than the total registered, unidentifiable people voting, and on and on.  That these grass roots volunteers never have the wherewithal to mount a court challenge against the establishment leaves all these reports fallow, and confirms to the cynical and/or light thinkers on the Left that all is good and proper with our electoral process.

Last night Chris Wallace’s question on the topic was simply inane, and demonstrated his acumen as a correspondent while revealing his well-established bias.  The breathless post-debate pundit commentaries on Fox News and today’s banner headlines – “Trump Wavers on Committing to Results of Election” – in so-called conservative newspapers like the WSJ demonstrates that the Fourth Estate is in lockstep against a Trump presidency.   These principles-optional pragmatists would rather have an incompetent and a demonstrated crook dripping with scandals occupy the White House, than risk an outsider who promises to shake things up in a town encrusted in corruption.

But the saddest thing of all is still our Great Divide.  On this morning’s NPR interviews with supporters of both sides, one thing stood out crystal clear – the two sides live in different universes.  The Left believes in a Hillary that is as innocent and pure as the pristine figure she cut last night in her snow white outfit.  Among the evidence rejected is the entire collection of emails which are written off as having been doctored since they came from Wikileaks presumably supplied by Russian hackers.

To get the flavor of all this from one of our neighbors, I refer you to our local leftwinger Ms Lynn Wenzel on The Union’s editorial board.  Today (20oct16) she writes an exculpatory column ‘Setting the Record Straight’(sic!!??) in which the entire massive rightwing conspiracy against “the most honest politician of the 2015-16 campaign” is explained.  That Wenzel’s views are shared by tens of millions of Americans is the real problem for the rest of us.  With so much evidence pouring in, I and the other tens of millions of Americans can confidently continue to conclude that no progressive today will represent our interests in how our society should be informed and governed.

Who knows? Either Hillary is going to slaughter it, or it will be a nail biter. Here is Pat Cadell. I like him solely because he digs down deep for underlying sentiments in the populace, not necessarily just asking who you are going to vote for. The underlining issues are still there. That’s my opinion, not necessarily anybody else’s.
Here is Pat’s Readers Digest version. If you listen to the audio, he expounds on it a little bit at the end after the cuts of last night’s Catholic Roast. If not, , bottomline is Pat will know more next week when his data comes back. No predictions.

Looks like the polls are tightening up and in some cases Trump is ahead. If you read the underlying poll breakdowns you will see they are weighted heavily towrds democrats in the case of Hillary’s leads. And the pollsters add a huge indie number that is not true in the general voting population. This leads me to believe the jig is up and the press is truly rigged against Trump.
I listened to Trump’s speech at Gettysburg this morning. He outlined extensively all his proposals for his first day and his first 100 days if elected. Very well done. However he did mention the liars who have come forward to claim he harassed or abused them and he restated they are all liars. He said after the election he will sue them as they have slandered him. I hope so. These sleazy Clinton tactics need to be stopped and rejected by the American people. After the exposure of the Clinton teams tactics of violence at Trump rallies, we all get to see the “low bar” Clinton claims to object too. What a hypocrite. Where is the FBI in this? They should be arresting these thugs for interfering in a campaign and using violence, lies and intimidation tactics to help Hillary. But now we know the FBI has also been corrupted by Obama and Clinton. We know Obama who claimed he knew nothing of Hillary’s private server actually used a phony named email to communicate on that server. He too should be arrested. And what of all those people who read classified emails of Top Secret without clearances? They too should be arrested. But now we see how corrupt and rigged the system is for the democrats.
We don’t need the status quo in my view. It has shown itself to be corrupt and in need of cleansing by the voters. Hillary is more of the same corruption and the lobbyists and well connected will remain our overlords if she is elected. Trump will boot them and according to his speech today, he will have a lifetime ban on people getting money from foreign countries who worked then retired or were defeated from public office. That is how Hillary and Bill got $250 million tossed into their pockets. GO TRUMP.
    VOTE or SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!

ToddJ 1124am – you’re a hard man Mr Juvinall, wanting jail time for the recipients of illegally sent classified emails. Heretofore recipients have been innocent of any wrong doing when they receive an email with classified content, since they would be unaware of the malfeasance perpetrated by the sender. But, if upon reading, they did confirm/know of the content’s classification, and did not report its compromise, then they would indeed be liable for criminal prosecution.

I’m going to keep quiet on the classified information I retain, even though the systems it regards are all decommissioned along with the F-14 that carried it, and that F-14s and all the systems it carried were owned by Iran when it was taken over by the mullahs and assumed to be compromised. Wonder how much Russia and China paid?
Regarding Trump’s Gettysburg speech, I think Gingrich had something to do with that. I was wondering when that shoe would drop… Gingrich’s Contract With America was a big part of his ascension to Speaker and the end of the Democratic Party’s control of tax and spending policy which started when I was still on a liquid diet and filling diapers in the 1950’s. Looks mostly OK to me, though it won’t lead me to waste my vote on a fellow I really don’t agree with on all that much. Am happy in a way not to live in a battleground state and be faced with the “lesser of two evils” rationalization. Vote for the Stoner!
Not that much time remains, with voting already started in some places, which leads me to another observation: at least for Federal elections, all voting should be on the first Tuesday of November, period, except in case of injury, disability, national service, etc etc. The way it used to be was better not because it was the good old days but because Election Day is election day and ought to be, as much as is possible, with everyone voting with the same information at the same time.
Of course, that does tend to limit the number of times any particular Democrat can manage to cast a ballot in a single election, but we should all expect some sacrifices for the common good.

LOL guys. Hey ABC who hates Trump just came out today with a poll they say has Hillary up 12. I went and looked and this is their breakout of party. Of course this is being used by all the lames, even FOX.
    “5
    METHODOLOGY

This ABC News poll was conducted by landline and cellular telephone
Oct. 20, 22,, 2016, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of
    874 likely voters.
Results have a margin of sampling error of 3.5 points, including the design effect. Partisan divisions are 36, 27,31percent, Democrats,Republicans independents.”
Now I have never seen that partisan breakdown before. Usuall it is way more indies. Anyway here is the link to the whole thing and we can see why Trump never gets a even break. For that matter no R ever does. Maybe GeorgeR can review the methodology?

Paul E. started down that road a couple months ago… it seems a variation of the bandwagon approach to propaganda. It’s a fait accompli, go with the flow. Start thinking about how to rehabilitate GOP voters in the aftermath.
Then there’s the USC/LA Times poll whose characteristics of voter support show no variance for white voter preferences and little change for female support after the supposed Trump harassments/assaults were brought forward for the first time years after they should have, assuming there is truth to the charges.
This is the old Clinton playbook… The Politics of Personal Destruction. Remember that phrase?
The USC/LA Times (RAND) poll, the IBD/TIPP poll, had their bona fides established four years ago when they were the outliers showing an Obama win over Romney. Today, they buck the “common knowledge” that Hillary is walking away from Trump. My feelings are that the common knowledge smells more like desperation and that their private pollings are more dismal than they want to admit to.

By the way the Karl Rove is giving up on Trump.
In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” the Republican strategist said that Donald Trump’s poll numbers are simply too dismal to end in victory on election night.
“I don’t see it happening,” Rove told Fox. “If he plays an inside straight, he could get it, but I doubt he’s going to be able to play it.”

Paul Emery, after all of your “research” on Trump, have you ever thought to research the lies, deceit, and corruption connected to Hillary Clinton? It is astonishing. There are even numerous websites that detail the 40+ people that have died under mysterious circumstances after running afoul of the Clinton machine. Kind of makes the discussion about 20 year old sexual harassment claims pale by comparison don’t you think?

It’s really called leverage – it takes about 100 cases of Democrat “lies, deceit, and corruption” to equal one Republican case. Anyone who doesn’t believe this has not delved into lamestream media coverage of the election or attempted an in-depth discussion with a Millennial (which hard to do since you hit bottom almost immediately).

Of course, no one would consider Craig Ferguson emotionally or morally qualified to be anything but a foul mouthed comic (one of the greats in my opinion) but he does a great imitation of a Pakistani with MS to illustrate what James Doohan’s fake accent as Star Trek’s original Scotty sounds like to him.
It comes back to Trump having gotten traction specifically because he would power through the PC brigades sent against him… remember, every GOP nominee has gotten the same treatment. Romney was roasted alive four years ago, now he’s the honored dead. Same with McCain. Bush II would be similarly remembered had he the good taste to lose gracefully instead of winning. Twice.

What have we told you all about the media? They are 90 percent democrats and these phony polls show it. Investors Business Daily and the Rasmussen Polls have the most accurate polls. ABC polls are totally false yet what poll does the lamestream media use? The ABC poll. They are trying make voters disillusioned for Trump. Dean Chambers, the man who garnered praise from the right and notoriety on the left for his “Unskewed Polling” site, admitted today that his method was flawed.

Hillary is on the record that huge number of American voters are both deplorable and irredeemable. Not a great start for a unification if she does win. Not very Christian, either.
IF my voting for Trump could actually result in an Elector not going to Hillary, I’d have a hard time in the voting booth this year. But it can’t… even if there is a tidal wave for Trump, California would be the last breakwater to be swamped.

Paul, I am not convinced that this is a failure of the two party system. Could be a one off. I know you have been decrying the two Party system for years, as many others who don’t fall into the R/D camp. But, after many decades, I cannot point to the successes of the 3 party system. What we may be witnessing is the reconstitution of one of the two major political parties. The R have to do something. People like you were saying the R party was toast in 2008, relegated to a small regional party (i. e, The old Conferate States of the South filled Bible Clingers viciously hated by the usual religious bigots like Boardman). So, with the R party doomed to the dust bin of history, surely a new 3rd and 4th party would emerge. Hmm. Where are they?? I have to disagree with your premise of 8:51am as this as a complete failure.
The choices this year are none of the above for most, but not a complete failure. Perhaps running an independent and self declared socialist was not the best fit for the Democrat Party. Trump may be a good fit for the New Republican Party however it evolves. Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell
One thing is for certain. Many of our institutions will be/are damaged as a direct result of this election. The media, the government, many pollsters, the Justice Department, liberal arts colleges, the NFL, etc. I am NOT saying the NFL or the FBI or the 3 big networks (and the NYT) are going away. Nah, their credibility and trust has been severely damaged. Can we even trust the establishment polls anymore?
If I poll a group of folks in the following manner I can guareeteed a 8% or so lead for Hillary. Take the populace and divide in two. In the first half, poll 14% more Dems than R’s. Take the 2nd half and compose them of independents and undecideds. This group as a whole should break around 50/50, or 55/45. Combine the two and you have a 7-9 point lead for the Dems. Easy as pie.
I finally see one flaw that our founding fathers missed. Most government types have historically had an acrimonious relationship with the press. Hostile. Ourfounding fathers relied on a free and vibrate press to be a pain in the ass to government, asking probing questions, exposing corrourption and malfeasance. The press was viewed as confrontational and protected to stay that way. The framers figured the 4th Estate would keep an skeptical and wary eye on the necessary evil the founders called government. They knew government was innately prone to grap more power and become serve serving. And our government must be constrained for the our Constitutional Republic to stand. They did not foresee the MSM of 2016.

Now, we can agree that every election has reports of election tampering, stuffing ballots, losing ballots and that kind of stuff. And some is human error, the one offs. I think the surveys about election fraud are asking the wrong folks. They ask it they saw anything questionable. If Mrs. Nicelady is volunteering at the polls and is given papers or ballots and treats the sacred vote with all due diligence, she is the wrong person to ask. She sees nothing. She does not know that the person who just voted has already previously voted across the state or county line. Sure, the fraudulent voter may even have registered at a vacant house he say 3 blocks away.
Paul, with all due respect, I feel that you have underestimated the vast reach of the Clinton Political Sleaze Machine. One big private creature whose tentacles have bought key personnel in media (executives and publishers on down), gov’t (domestic and foreign) the executive branch, and the international Maoists and Islamic Fascists. So, of course, we all kind of are not excepting anything titled…er..crooked when we read the many polls.
Your side decries Republicans trying to manipulate/suppress the vote as the act of Mrs. Nicelady at the neighborhood voting place asking all the nice people to show ID. Lol. Yes, that does disapportionately affect the poor hired defrauders their chance to vote again and again.
Ain’t saying hanky panky is going on in every single nook and cranny in every voting place in America. I hope you are not saying it does not exist or statically insignificant. Somewhere between the two.

It mirrors the real world, MLLPF has the 1% and Trump has the mass of small donations, kinda like Bernie. So if the establishment is off in their polling like the brits this may be an interesting Thanksgiving. 😉

Regarding voter ID. Back in the day when I was 18, I registered to vote by old fashioned pony express. Nobody asked for my ID. To this day I vote by mail. The only confirmation that I am who I claim to be is a signature I have purposefully scribbled nearly illegibly several times just for fun. Nobody apparently even looks. Maybe I should sign it jon smith.

jons 838am – Mr smith, the real question is how do you and yours feel about that being the only requirement to perform the most sacrosanct act of a franchised citizen in a democratic republic?

    Pop up for Trump… He’s +1.1% over Hillary by today’s USC/LA Times/RAND poll, a 2% rise over yesterday. Either that’s a trend, or it isn’t.
“Then the argument will shift to election fraud which will inspire investigations into all those Republican governed States that voted for Hillary.”
Or all the KVMR “peace center” types will be sitting around listening to old Utah Philips tapes wondering what happened. Whatever happens, counseling services will be in demand for the next few months.
