FtSumterI want to get this post up in a timely manner for tonight’s last debate of the most fractious political season since the Confederates finally decided to open fire on Ft Sumter.  In my decades I have never seen the country so frustrated and choose our candidates so unwisely.  For the Left, the years of revisionist education in unionized government schools has finally paid off.  My fear is that we will look back on the advent of Obama as our Ft Sumter.

Tonight we are having debate night with friends at Casa Rebane.  A big fire in the fireplace, hot pizza and crisp salad, with freshly baked apple pie.  And all washed down with appropriate amounts of martoonis and other libations to satisfy the anticipated need for analgesics and anesthesia.  Hope you all are also fortifying yourselves for a night to remember.  More after we recover whatever wits remain after the debate.

[Later]  Well, save for accepting the results of the election, the Donald did himself proud against Hillary, who was wooden and prerecorded.  Trump’s correct answer should have been, ‘Chris, of course I’ll accept the election results like everyone else in the country; unless, of course, something real smelly turns up.  At that time I would look at our legal options and take appropriate actions.  What would you do instead?’

[20oct16 update]  Looks like the whole country has discovered and succumbed to a new clinical condition that affects the masses, Hanging Chad Amnesia.

But the good news is that another tenet of the Left’s belief system has leaked out in Queen Hillary’s response to Trump’s “wavering” on pre-accepting election results.  She was all agog at the notion – “That’s horrifying.  That is not the way our democracy works!”

But of course that is exactly how our democracy works.  For over two centuries our elections have been contested by a free people when they suspected that something wasn’t right.  The uncountable recounts and court challenges are part and parcel of the glorious history of our democratic republic.  It is under collectivist authoritarian regimes in which the results of elections – no matter how unbelievable – are accepted quietly by the unsuccessful candidates and a compliant public.

And only our Left maintains that our elections have a miniscule record of voter fraud.  In the process they accuse thousands of volunteer poll workers of lying over the years when these have submitted reports of tens of voters with the same address, the long dead voters, voting in multiple jurisdictions, more votes for one candidate than the total registered, unidentifiable people voting, and on and on.  That these grass roots volunteers never have the wherewithal to mount a court challenge against the establishment leaves all these reports fallow, and confirms to the cynical and/or light thinkers on the Left that all is good and proper with our electoral process.

Last night Chris Wallace’s question on the topic was simply inane, and demonstrated his acumen as a correspondent while revealing his well-established bias.  The breathless post-debate pundit commentaries on Fox News and today’s banner headlines – “Trump Wavers on Committing to Results of Election” – in so-called conservative newspapers like the WSJ demonstrates that the Fourth Estate is in lockstep against a Trump presidency.   These principles-optional pragmatists would rather have an incompetent and a demonstrated crook dripping with scandals occupy the White House, than risk an outsider who promises to shake things up in a town encrusted in corruption.

But the saddest thing of all is still our Great Divide.  On this morning’s NPR interviews with supporters of both sides, one thing stood out crystal clear – the two sides live in different universes.  The Left believes in a Hillary that is as innocent and pure as the pristine figure she cut last night in her snow white outfit.  Among the evidence rejected is the entire collection of emails which are written off as having been doctored since they came from Wikileaks presumably supplied by Russian hackers.

To get the flavor of all this from one of our neighbors, I refer you to our local leftwinger Ms Lynn Wenzel on The Union’s editorial board.  Today (20oct16) she writes an exculpatory column ‘Setting the Record Straight’(sic!!??) in which the entire massive rightwing conspiracy against “the most honest politician of the 2015-16 campaign” is explained.  That Wenzel’s views are shared by tens of millions of Americans is the real problem for the rest of us.  With so much evidence pouring in, I and the other tens of millions of Americans can confidently continue to conclude that no progressive today will represent our interests in how our society should be informed and governed.

Paul Emery, I don’t bet on things as weird as presidential elections, but if I did, I’d insist on odds at least as good as i’d get from a bookie.
I must note you’re the one who has insisted it was all over.multiple times and kept proposing bets way in your favor… my expectation is that it is much closer than the Paul Emerys have been insisting.
Propose a bet at Silver’s current odds. You’re the one who thinks he’s the world’s foremost authority… so

Blow by blow: Live streamed the debate, listened a bit, and fell asleep. Work up, listened a bit, went outside for awhile, listened a bit, took a shower, then caught the end. Sounded like Wallace kept things from getting out of hand.
I saw an egomaniac debate a money changer in the temple. The national mental health shrinks are telling folks to turn off tv, walk away from social media (without unfriending people) and do yoga or something. After all, they say, our country will survive. Well, I am not so sure it will. Maybe that is why they call it Practicing Medicine.
Tomorrow Gloria Allred is parading another woman up in from from of the cameras from some fancy hotel. Guess we better enjoy a rare 8 hour break. Tomorrow starts up where we left off.
The first question about abortion set the tone. Both took positions that were not in the nuanced place where most Americans are, so I guess both were playing to their bases and shoring up the base first and foremost. Never the twain shall meet. Nobody moved the needle. Hillary did not collaspe in a fainting spell on live TV and Trump did not blow it totally. 19 days to go. Oh goodie.

Couple weeks ago “Matlock” was voting for Johnson…..then there was a switch to Hillary……lets see if we can flip him back to Johnson.

“While Hillary Clinton has spent the presidential campaign saying as little as possible about her ties to Wall Street, the executive who some observers say could be her Treasury Secretary has been openly promoting a plan to give financial firms control of hundreds of billions of dollars in retirement savings. The executive is Tony James, president of the Blackstone Group.
It is a plan that proponents say could help millions of Americans — but could also enrich another constituency: the hedge fund and private equity industries that Blackstone dominates and that have donated millions to support Clinton’s presidential bid.
The proposal would require workers and employers to put a percentage of payroll into individual retirement accounts “to be invested well in pooled plans run by professional investment managers,” as James put it. In other words, individual voluntary 401(k)s would be replaced by a single national system, and much of the mandated savings would flow to Wall Street, where companies like Blackstone could earn big fees off the assets. And because of a gap in federal anti-corruption rules, there would be little to prevent the biggest investment contracts from being awarded to the biggest presidential campaign donors.

Every four years they republicans elect “literally Hitler”, four years after that previous Hitler is tarted up as the good guy……“why couldn’t you run a guy like this who the left could consider liking”?

“He is the worst major-party candidate in history.
He’s a gaffe machine. He’s an evil racist who wants to return black people to slavery.
He’s a brutal sexist who wants to return women to the subservience of the 1950s.
He’s a nasty warmonger who doesn’t get the fundamental intricacies of modern foreign policy, with the Manichean worldview to match. He’s an old homophobe with a history of cruelty to workers.
Think we’re talking about Donald Trump?
No, we’re talking about Mitt Romney circa 2012. That’s how the media painted one of the most honorable men ever to run for the White House, the creator of Romneycare, a northeastern Republican with a penchant for compromise and negotiation. Mitt Romney, the left claimed, was no John McCain — that halcyon of moderation and decency.
Now, of course, the media tells us that Donald Trump is a massive departure from the legacy of John McCain and Mitt Romney. He’s beyond the pale! He panders to racists! He’s a vicious sexist and sexual assaulter! He’s uninformed, unstable, ignorant, stupid! Why, compared to Mitt Romney, the man’s a monster!
Much of this may be true in a way it simply wasn’t about Romney. But by 2020, Donald Trump will be the new standard of civility and decency according to the Left.

    Hah!

    Perfect response Donald. Perfect:
    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/donald-trump-accept-election-230098
That is The Trump connection to his voters that few pundits understand. Nor ever will. Well, they keep misreading the populace votes that brought us both Bernie Sanders and Trump in the same year. Go figure, lol.
I was going to say a better answer to the “Call for Civil War, Part 2” would have been along the lines of “Look, everybody in this room knows they already rigged the election against Bernie. The head of the DNC had to leave in the middle of the Democrat Convention. Of course I will accept the election results if there is no funny business going on. I sure don’t trust this sleazy bunch judging by the clips of people on Hillary’s payroll plotting massive voter fraud.” Reference to O’Keefe’s second video detailing how to get around using buses (red flags) by using 3rd Party owned vehicles. And if a reporter spots some monkey business, who cares? Who cares, lol.
But, I forgot Trump is not a politican and he ain’t going to tell the enemy what he is going to do. Good businessman answer.
Got thinking about Trump’s first’s answer. Not abortion per se, but saying the issue if overturned would be automatically sent back to the States per that’s how it works. Boy, the Constitutionalists who have been screaming hourly for months about Trump not a true Conservative are tickled pink he may be a Federalist. They think that was the greatest thing since sliced bread, albeit they still don’t like him but will vote for him solely because the alternative is worse. They didn’t care much about the keep ya in suspense comment, lol.

Hillary is a good spinner but Trump is much better. Check out his denial of encouraging Nukes for Japan and South Korea when he is on record with Chris Wallace of all people as saying :
” DONALD TRUMP: So, North Korea has nukes. Japan has a problem with that. I mean, they have a big problem with that. Maybe they would in fact be better off if they defend themselves from North Korea.”
    CHRIS WALLACE: With nukes?
DONALD TRUMP: Including with nukes, yes, including with nukes.
Last night h e denied saying that. Wallace went easy on him for sure.
Anyway this election is over. Within three of four dayw the parting out of the Republican Party will begin leaving him to “twist slowly in the wind” , a quote from the Watergate days.

They (Republican National Committee} are part of it for sure. They represent the same “establishment” that Hillary bows to. TPP is the proof in the pudding. Trump opposing TPP puts him, in direct conflict with the vast majority of Congressional Republicans. No wonder they want to dump him This is big stuff.

this election is going to be such a rout that any alleged voter fraud would have to be huge to mount a protest. Gore just requested a recount in a very close Florida election and graciously accepted defeat after he lost the recounbt. thjis is what he said:
“Good evening. Just moments ago I spoke with George W. Bush and congratulated him on becoming the 43rd president of the United States………
Now the political struggle is over and we turn again to the unending struggle for the common good of all Americans and for those multitudes around the world who look to us for leadership in the cause of freedom.
In the words of our great hymn, ”America, America,” let us crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
And now, my friends, in a phrase I once addressed to others, it’s time for me to go. Thank you and good night and God bless America. ”

You guys still don’t get it. The day Trump said his first words after he jumped in the race, some of us took off our Republican uniforms and folded them up neatly and put them in the footlocker. Then we pulled out the headdress and put the war paint on. After a couplef more weeks or so, we can put the headdress away in the trophy case until needed.
There is no Republican Party to go back to. No regrouping. If Trump fails, another will take his place next time and the time after that. Priebes (or whatever the RNC chair is called) has saved his own neck by doing his job lately. Always good to leave a remnant to tell the story to their grandchildren.. We got to clean out our side of the street first, but the pow wow council said to scalp Hillary, then come back to finish taking the garbage out. Whoever said the war plan goes out the window after the first skirmish knew what he was talking about. Many rats to smoke out. The ones who do not speak with forked tongue will be granted safe passage. They can fly under the flag of truce if they wish to leave before winter.
Then, you over there will have our undivided attention. As a peace offering (after much smoking on the peace pipe), an elder had a vision. We will make Gary Johnson head of The Department of Interior or Education. Trump has agreed that this is a wise thing to do. Those of the darkened heart will be taken out along with the rest of the vermin. They are many, but have grown slow, lazy, and overfed.
Best for you over there is sleep with one eye open. Sweet dreamies.

Hey Paul, here is a little reality check:
IS THIS AN OUTLIER? – AT 9:25 A.M. ET: We refer to the IBD/TIPP poll, which had the best record of accuracy in the 2012 presidential race. From IBD:
Donald Trump held onto his 1-point lead over Hillary Clinton in the second day of the IBD/TIPP presidential tracking poll — 41% to 40%. Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Part’s Jill Stein remain far behind at 7% and 5%, respectively.
In a two-way matchup, Clinton continues to hold a three-point lead over Trump — 43% to 41%. The poll included 779 likely voters, giving it a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percentage points.
The second day’s results of the IBD/TIPP poll don’t reflect any impact of the spirited presidential debate Wednesday night, which covered a wide range of issues, from the Supreme Court, to abortion, to ISIS, to economic policy and entitlement reform.
During the debate, Clinton repeatedly struggled to defend her policy positions and the Clinton Foundation scandal against sharp questioning from moderator Chris Wallace. When asked, for example, about conflicts of interest involving the foundation while she was Secretary of State, Clinton tried to turn the focus on what she described were the strengths of the nonprofit.
Rasmussen also defies the predictions of most of the polls:
It’s too early to measure the impact of last night’s final presidential debate, but Republican Donald Trump now has a three-point lead nationally on Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online White House Watch survey finds Trump with 43% support among Likely U.S. Voters to Clinton’s 40%. Six percent (6%) still prefer Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, and three percent (3%) favor Green Party nominee Jill Stein. Another three percent (3%) like some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
Ditto the Los Angeles Times poll, which has consistently put Trump ahead. Are these simply outliers, the polls that we’ll look to in the future as having been terribly wrong, or are they finding things the others aren’t? We won’t know until the election is over, but the cold fact remains that the RealClearPolitics average of polls puts Clinton 6.4 points ahead.
That said, reading the Wikileaks emails from Podesta, it appears some of the polls are democratic driven to shape the public view that Hillary is winning, and everyone wants to vote for a winner, Right?

Just as you frequently cherry pick and post misleading numbers regarding climate change, you continue to do so with your cherry picked polls of folks who will vote Trump.
You conveniently forget to put your poll numbers into context. Look at a map of the electoral college. It matters not one whit that bigly numbers of voters in Mississippi and Alabama are going to vote Trump when huge electoral college states such as Washington, Oregon, California, Michigan, New York, etc. etc are solidly in the HRC camp. The polls you trot out are meaningless when put into context of the real world of the electoral college.
Go find a mainstream poll tallied per the electoral college and name us one that finds Trump a winner.

The left sees nothing when it is their ilk, the right does. Just like Donna Brazil the other night claimed Megan Kelly was persecuting her when she would not admit she got the question for Hillary before the debate. That exchange is why most Americans hate the media. Liars and biased and trying to tell us we did not see or read what we saw.

    And furthermore,
Remember when the democrats were apoplectic when Trump said he could shoot someone on Main Street and get away with it? Of course it was humor but that is the way sourpuss liberals react. Now Trump says he will not give up his right to protest a vote which is totally smart. Al Gore sued after his numerous recounts showed he lost in 2000 to Bush. And Gore only wanted recounts in the counties he WON! The SCOTUS finally said this mining for votes was unconstitutional unless the whole state was recounted. So Gore conceded after 38 days.
Now we see the thuggery we on the right always knew the democrats were doing. The latest undercover videos exposing the democrat brownshirts admitting their strategies and successes in disrupting Trump rallies has gone viral. These democrat thugs also admit they are going to disrupt the voting and will commit voter fraud to get Hillary elected. These thugs also indicate that she knows about all this. No “plausible deniability” here.
So we have a true outsider to politics and the system everyone says they hate and want to change. And what happens? The establishment on both sides is doing their best to destroy Trump personally as well as the corrupt media. Sure he is brash and a big mouth but look at his opposition. He has done nothing to disrupt a Hillary rally. He has done nothing to her except expose the truth about her and her followers.
Is this what we want in America? Do we want to maintain the status quo? Or change. Remember the Executive is in charge of five million employees. And they will do what he or she wants. Just look at Obama and his coverup of Hillary’s felonies on the classified emails. So get your sorry asses to the polls and change America’s direction from disaster. Vote Trump.

Seems Boardman is cherry picking that line, what about the rest of it? Ironic humor was hardly the intent. So as I said I will stand with the Cardinal on this one, he is right in what he said. The team of bloodless ghouls that run the Clinton campaign mean what they are saying. So save the revisionist spin there GB.

The two most accurate polls in 2012 have Trump up one or two percent today.
The polls used for the electoral projections touted by 538 and RCP have Clinton up by a high single digit.
    Houston, we have a problem.
Regarding poking Catholics with a stick, the best job of that was done by nice Jewish boy who was chased out of the math departments of Harvard and MIT for songs that piss people off:
First you get down on your knees,
    Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
    And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!
Do whatever steps you want, if
You have cleared them with the pontiff.
    Everybody say his own
    Kyrie eleison,
    Doin’ the vatican rag.
Get in line in that processional,
    Step into that small confessional,
There, the guy who’s got religion’ll
Tell you if your sin’s original.
If it is, try playin’ it safer,
Drink the wine and chew the wafer,
    Two, four, six, eight,
    Time to transubstantiate!
So get down upon your knees,
    Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
    And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!
Make a cross on your abdomen,
When in rome do like a roman,
    Ave maria,
Gee it’s good to see ya,
    Gettin’ ecstatic an’
    Sorta dramatic an’
    Doin’ the vatican rag!
The best advice for Paul is ancient… Don’t count your chickens until the eggs hatch.

The two cherrypicked polls that have Trump up one or two percent are the polls that got the 2012 Obama victory right, within about a half percent of the final count. The others mostly had Romney walking away with it.
Regarding cherrypicked climate data, what you apparently miss about the scientific method, (altogether now) it doesn’t matter how smart you are or how beautiful your theory is. If it doesn’t agree with experiment, the theory is wrong.
It doesn’t matter if there are a lot of other experiments that don’t contradict the theory, and it isn’t “cherrypicking” to focus on the failures; it’s the scientific method at work.

Boardman 10/21 9:57. Thanks. That puts you firmly in the blind category regarding the integrity of HRC. I wonder if that explains Paul Emery’s thought process as well?

OK Gregory don’t count your chickens until the eggs hatch Good advice right now Hillary has twice the number of eggs that Trump has so odds are more chickens will come out of those eggs

Well Paul, comfort yourself all you want. See you have been partaking of the opiate of the masses. No one begrudges you alittle relief from the the deep rooted call for change. That feeling of impending doom is there, isn’t it? You can since it. But, you are correct. It’s not logical. I works out for Hillary on the blackboard drawing in the office. Comfort yourself, Paul. Election is not today….bet you knew that.

    Mr. Boardman @ 9:57am.
Unlike you, I know more about Church history than any reader on these boards. I say that confidently as it has been a passion of mine since around 1973. Historical view from 300 BC to about 1923. My journey has taken me from the bowels of the off limits (for certain eyes only) Gonzaga University Library with its extensive and exhaustive collection of Catholic and religious archives, second to none anywhere in the world outside the Vatican. Full disclosure: I am not a Catholic nor ever have been one, for whatever it’s worth. I read books hand written by monks from the 4 corners of the globe 13 centuries old.
One particular interest to me was the period around Calvin and pre Revolutionary War in the Colonies where great revivals were going on and packed the streets for blocks in every direction to hear preachers stand on crates. A young Ben Franklin observed the phenonium it its prime and probably never saw anything like it again, but I digress. Another period of religious (spiritual upheaval) was shortly after the “turn of the century” 1900’s that brought forth the Pentecostal movement. My studies revealed many things and answered the questions to what brought this or that group to the forefront…what was the catalyst, and the relationships (if any) of great spiritual awakenings/revivals\upheavels of the status quo prior to revolutions and great events/changes in governments/nations.. The answers are off topic.
Thus, Mr. Boardman, I can tell you that groups who speak in tongues do not wrestle snakes. They charm snakes. Lol. No, poisonous snakes have been used to bite the faithfull and then demonstrate the power of the Great Spirit to immediately heal if one believes. These events were mostly confined to traveling road shows by unaffiliated faith healers akin to a small family owned traveling circus. A handful still exist in 2016.
However, there are some amazing accounts of “miracles”. But others in that period than flourished in the dust bowl era were not too different from today’s snake oil salesmen found pushing miracle natural remedies on the web or selling man made global warming cures.
Point is they are some small sects out there that kiss snakes, handle snakes, hold up snakes over their heads, put their hands into a snake cage, but none wrestle snakes. Perhaps you are confusing closed secret sects of African/Tobaggo/Caribbean/Catholicism blends found in parts of NE South America and down in the bayou southwest of New Orleans. There are lots of things found in the bayou at night. Boo! You probably confused chanting with speaking in tongues, but they do wrestle snakes out of the brackish waters to make their potions in some places.

Oh Boardman, your bias against Southern conservative Evangelicals who wrestile snakes is showing again. Ok, we are deplorable here, no doubt about it. Rednecks and all strictly religious folks. But, the real and only threat to gays in the US are Islamic immigrants. Notice the unprecedented security at the West Hollywood Gay Pride parade this year? Off the charts. Security’s fear wasn’t the bitter Bible Thumper gun tootin’ white male rednecks. Sure, there is always a crazy in every crowd, but LE as protecting our gay community from our Islamic residents. Go figure. The real rape culture is not on our campuses. It’s in Sweden, Germany, and coming to a gated community near you.. An omen. Storm clouds gathering.
Immigration is the number one issue this year in some polling, but I never take that as the gossip truth. Another issue that the pro life and pro rights groups agree on across the board is late term abortions are generally indefensible and a no-no, with two exceptions. But, it’s all them Deplorables out of touch with the pulse of Nation that are the real threat, eh? I be Irrdeemable and the basket gets bigger by the day. Come to The Light.
