[edited] RR reader Mr Gary Smith comments that this short speech to players attributed to Clark Hunt, CEO and Owner of the Kansas City Chiefs most likely is a piece of hopeful fiction. With apologies for the original post and many thanks to Mr Smith, I still wish that Hunt or some other NFL owner would have the balls to say these words. "You are all simply paid performers on a stage and that field is my stage! You will stand, with your hand over your heart and with respect, when our country's national anthem is being played or you will no longer be a Kansas City Chief, a Coach for the Kansas City Chiefs or have any association with the Chiefs Organization! I will immediately fire you, no matter who you are! You can make your political statements off the field, but when you're employed by me and I'm signing your check, I demand that you make our fans proud and not embarrass them." (more here)
That huge fractions of our young, specifically the voting Millennials, are abysmally ignorant should not come as news to RR readers. But how dumb they really are and what that portends for our nation is simply breathtaking. The well-respected polling organization YouGov published a recent poll on the knowledge and attitudes of our young people that included the 16+ year olds with Millennials (born from about 1980 to 2000). The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation published a report on attitudes toward socialism held by younger Americans who appear ready to vote themselves into an autocracy. Some of the beliefs they hold are –
- 45% of 16-20 year olds would vote for a “Socialist”; 21% for a “Communist”
- One-third of Millennials Believe George W. Bush Killed More People Than Stalin
- Vast Majority Unaware of Communism’s Death Toll
- More Millennials Prefer Words of Karl Marx Over the Bible
- Bernie Sanders’ Philosophy Wins More Support Than Milton Friedman’s
HR departments are becoming a danger to tech companies, something I already experienced about 15 years ago as an executive at a high flying dotcom. A reader sent me this piece by Helen Smith writing in PJ Media – ‘Could Social Justice Warriors Ruin Your Tech Company?’. There we read –
Over a third of adults under 35 now live with their parents. Young men are working much less and playing video games much more as they fail to find good jobs, and the rates of marriage and family formation are way down. More people of all ages have given up trying to find a job. Meanwhile, companies report a shortage of skilled workers, and many good jobs remain unfilled for months or years. … Human Resources (HR) departments are widely disliked, and job searchers are generally advised to contact the hiring manager directly if they really want to be considered for a job. There are good reasons why HR acts like an arm of the government bureaucrats pressuring companies to hire more protected minorities and women–because that's what they are, in many companies.
Evidence that Hillary Clinton broke the law now rolls in daily in the continuing release of Clinton emails and the detailed reading of those already in the public domain. Yesterday we discovered additional evidence directly from the FBI that ‘The FBI’s Own Investigation Summary Proves that Hillary Clinton Broke The Law’. (H/T to reader)
Her long record of misdealings augmented now with ample evidence of criminal behavior, is an existential assault on our justice system for every day that she walks unindicted and free. And the insult is amplified an order of magnitude when we see her flaunt Title 18 of the US Code as a candidate for the highest office in the land.
Finally for balance, we read Bret Stephens in the 18oct16 WSJ where he inveighs on ‘The Plot Against America’, a hit piece on The Donald as an anti-semite-in-waiting while being careful to state that “there is no evidence” of Mr Trump’s “personal animus toward Jews”. Nevertheless, Stephens argues that Trump’s candidacy is “manna to every Jew-hater.”
With some trepidation I look forward to tomorrow night’s last presidential debate moderated by Fox News’ Chris Wallace. Wallace is FN’s most liberal frontline host and joins colleagues Megyn Kelly and Bret Baier as the network’s anti-Trump triumvirate. (More moderate to pro-Trump in FN’s frontline are Bill O’Reilly, Brit Hume, and Sean Hannity.) I also believe Wallace to be FN’s weakest interviewer who does not effectively pursue issues, misses the obvious follow-on questions (especially with Democrats), and focuses mostly on softball sensationalism du jour.
