OK, Donald Trump is beginning to sound more presidential as he sticks to the pillory Hillary script.  But I’m not sure of his new campaign leadership duo of Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway.  Today on Fox News Sunday Ms Conway was given an opportunity to showcase The New Donald while interviewed by Fox’s stealth liberal Chris Wallace.  Wallace was asked Conway a couple of loaded questions on Trump’s economic policy which Conway handled in due course, and then Wallace delivered the ‘clincher’ pointing out that there were “experts on the economy” who had given Trump’s policies a thumbs down – what did she have to say about that?  Conway was flustered, resorted to high blabberwocky on a side topic, and came out with egg on her face.

According to Rebane Doctrine the correct answer to the Wallaces of the world on citing expert economists should have been, ‘Look Chris, it’s yesterday’s news that the Federal Reserve, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the long list of academic institutions specializing in economics have a dismal record in correctly analyzing economic policies let alone predicting the performance of real economies.  The best they have ever been able to do is debate what they see in the rear view mirror, and even there they cannot agree.  Let’s face it, there are no ‘experts’ in economics, so quoting what some odd group of economists thinks is a gratuitous exercise at best that people cobble together to support some agenda or other.  What’s your next question?’

[1sep16 update]  For the record, I thought Trump’s immigration policy speech was excellent both in content and specificity (for this stage of the campaign).  While I question his ability to do all of his laundry list things on the ‘first hour/day in office’, even if he gets those processes started in the first 100 days will be a marked improvement.

Looking to the other side, it is hard to tell what Hillary is running on save that Trump is bad, and that what Obama has done is good.  The elements of her plan forward seem to be missing.  And that the woman is deathly afraid of an already fawning press says it all about how much she fears shoes already dropped and those yet to come from her many scandals.  The humorous part here is the consistent denials by her acolytes that what we see is a fire that has given rise to the considerable smoke that blankets her campaign.  Nevertheless, she continues to prove that it is possible to fool most of the people all the time.

I thought Ms. Conway did well enough with a gotcha question.
The most interesting segment of Fox Snooze yesterday was a decent interview with Gary Johnson, the LIB candidate who is at 16% in at least one state. His campaign is focused on getting him in the first debate, without which his insurgency has no hope. Johnson did a great job facing Wallace down and making his case.
I don’t agree with all of the Johnson brand of Libertarianism, nor do I labor under any misapprehension that his VP candidate Weld is anything but a fair weather left-LIB, but he does have my vote, not that there’s any chance for anyone but Clinton to get all of California’s electors unless she’s caught in flagrante delicto with a live girl or a dead boy before November.
It was a few weeks ago that I last had a nice chat with KVMR’s Paul Emery but at that time Paul was taking as an absolute fact that the Trump candidacy was over, Hillary was wiping the floor with him… even at that time the polls were already narrowing and the Don and Hill seemed locked in a dead heat Totentanz at the moment. Trump was once again (this time on Meet the Depressed) slandered as a psychopath by a prominent DEM, roundly denounced by Democrat Pat Caddel on a competing program. The “Trump is a psycho” meme has a real drawback, as it sets a very low bar for Trump to come out of the managed press conferences we call “debates” smelling like a rose.
For all the talking heads panelists groping for what started the ugly politics of personal destruction, that would be the Borking of Bork (the aftermath of which is still felt as Justice Kennedy was the moderate Reagan had to settle for), but it was solidified by the Clintons as they found that the Machiavellian “if there are no disinterested observers people will take the results into account” works just fine if reputations are destroyed retroactively. All it takes is a stable of folks who will say anything to get the hatchet job done, and a willing press corps who will go with the flow.

I recall that chat. There’s nothing that’s happened since then that changes my view that Trump will lose this election possibly by Goldwater metrics.
I saw that interview with Johnson. He has my vote for sure. What a relief to actually hear the opinions of someone of integrity.
Trump vs Clinton… If that’s not an indictment of the failure of our two party system what is.

The silver lining is that what we all have known for years and have taken for granted is now what people expect and demand of MSM, i. e., unfair and biased.
Larry Kudlow from CNBC was pretty good when I had tv. He said this morning on the radio that Hillary’s economic plan is a plan used in a recession, labeling her plan as “The Recession Plan”. Mr. Kudlow called Trump’s plan an “Economic Growth Plan.”

Paul, to the contrary, the polls have the race at or below the margin of error. It’s a horse race, with the USC/LA Times Daybreak poll at dead even… 44 Trump, 43.6 Clinton.
George, I’m an equal opportunity sarcast, with Fox Snooze Someday, Meet the Depressed and This Week with Bill Clinton’s Chief of Staff being our Sunday talking heads of the moment.
F.Chuck Todd is a durn sight better than Brokaw but a pale imitation of the late Tim Russert who was a truly fine telejournalist and thoroughly decent human being. While it was always clear his politics was firmly on the Democratic side, unlike the Steffie Stefanopoulouses and Chuck Todds, his people didn’t get off easy, and GOP or other actors got a fair hearing and time to talk.
“This Week”‘s panel this week was one lone centrist male Republican being henpecked by four Democratic women with axes to grind, including the host/moderator, Steffie’s stand-in. Pathetic journalism. It’s unfortunate, but the only reliable and reasonably balanced discussion is on Fox, and the appetizer (The answer is Yes! No!, bye-bye!) of the McLaughlin Group no longer is to be expected for the prior Friday night.

OK Gregory assuming that the race is dead even as LA Times indicates what kind of wager would you accept to test your mettle on this? How about a bottle of good Scotch, your choice in the $50 range. Just say yes you stand behind you belief that it’s an even race and we’ll negociate off mic so to speak. I’d love to take that bet with anyone by the way. Can’t wait for offers.

Paul, Hannity is Hannity, an op-ed program. Fox News Sunday is a news program that really is pretty balanced, especially when compared to the NBC, CBS and ABC offerings.
The BSLSD offerings are off the chart, with Morning Joe’s leggy blonde calling for Trump getting psychoanalyzed ASAP this morning… yet Democrat donor David Geffen long ago called on the Clinton’s lying so easily… if anyone is to be suspected of an organic problem, it should be Hillary. What Trump has is a lifetime of hanging around construction workers when he’s not hanging around fashion models and, as Newt has opined, a tendency to use 5 words when 5 sentences would be better.
It may be your mathematical illiteracy at work, but an estimate that it’s even right now is an estimate that it’s even right now, not a forward looking prediction of the outcome.
It’s a horse race and the trumpeter hasn’t even sounded To the Post yet.

PaulE 539pm – Paul, I don’t think you have given enough particulars to define a bet. Gregory would win out of the gate by standing behind his current belief that today it’s an even race, simply because it is. I’m hoping you’ll take another cut at it so that some of us bourbon lovers could also participate 😉

George, bourbon is a foul alternative to a good Scotch or Irish whisky. I feel no need to bet on a race that is dead even, but if Paul ever wants to buy a good bottle for him to pour for me, I’d suggest Lagavulin.
It’s interesting that the celtic word for whiskey translates to “water of life”, which is also what the Danish akvavit means… not to mention aqua vitae or eau d’vie. Or something like that. Let’s all raise a glass to those 13th century monks whose efforts of the high technology of the day still makes us happy today.
Thanks also to the Conquistadors who identified pulque as a candidate for the same treatment… a good Añejo tequila is nearly as tasty as a decent Scotch.
Unfortunately, corn liquor is best saved for adulterations of motor fuels.

George, I think I can meet you halfway… while a sour mash bourbon gives me the shivers just thinking about trying to drink it, a nice Rye, a common sideline for bourbon makers, can be quite pleasant and I generally keep a bottle of it around just in case.
I’m reminded of a scene from It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World… Jim Backus plays a lush who owns and flies an airplane (a nice Beech 18, outfitted as a corporate aircraft). He didn’t like the last round one of the passengers made (Mickey Rooney or Buddy Hackett) and so enlisted Hackett to be the pilot of the moment.
As Backus walked back to the bar setup to make a proper Old Fashioned like dear old Dad used to make, Hackett screams “but what if something happens!?” to which Backus counters, “What could happen to an Old Fashioned?”
Using bourbon instead of Rye is the answer. A tragedy in the making.

Afterall, El Presidente invited both the major candidates to have talks. Trump accepted. El Presidente has been doing hard work figuring out to the best way to deal with narco traffickers, a problem affecting both countries. Mexico is our largest trading partner so accepting the invitation was the right thing to do now.
Trump is still Errol Flynn swinging from rope to rope while The Clinton Machine is still the slow maneuvering cautious overladen with gold Spanish Galleon too close to the rocky shores. Took Trump all of 3 minutes to accept the invite. Hillary has to do 17 focus groups first to see if she should accept the invite.

Easy come easy go… Wisconsin just went Leans Hillary to Toss Up.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/2016_elections_electoral_college_map.html
Trump still has to get to 270 and isn’t even close yet.
I think there is probably some truth to the claim many Trump supporters are keeping quiet when asked, but how much won’t be known until votes are counted.
Once called the Tom Bradley effect, supposedly due to folks not wanting to admit to pollsters they weren’t voting for the historic rise of the first Black governor of California. A side show that I still find funny is there was one poll of Californians about what ethnic groups they would vote for, Armenians were behind blacks, and it was George Deukmejian who beat Bradley.
It didn’t help Bradley that he was an early endorser of the big gun grab bill of that year, believing the early polls that it was wildly popular. It also lost. Badly.
I guess Armenians weren’t that bad after all. BTW, my high school was loaded with Armenians, a memorial to the Armenian Genocide by the Turks was nearby and the wealthiest kid in school was a scion of one of the big garbage truck magnates in California… as Armenian a group as nail salons are now Vietnamese. Unlike nail salons, garbage disposal is a huge industry… it costs real money to move garbage from the house to somewhere away from the house and buried.

Yes, crowd size and enthusiasm are barely a blip on the radar when considering the vast entirety of voting pool. However, Hillary charged out of the gate after the Convention and had to cancel her Cincinnati rally after she drew a 100 in Cleveland, lol. Didn’t even make it two rallies in Ohio. She has been hiding since and for excellent reasons. Yes, she spoke to Wallance on Fox Sunday and spent two weeks trying to explain what she said. That did not help her cause when her explanation included the words “short circuited.” But, that does not really matter if she wins. Hide and no seek. Today she got off her plastic surgeon’s tuck and nip table to slam Trump for…..drumrol, please…..for dissing a Gold Star family, something she would never do. Just ask the fallen’s Bengahzi family members. She is quite the piece of art. Recycling Papa Khan to see if she can squeeze out another drop. She is stuck on stupid….and out of touch.
Yes, crowd size and enthusiasm don’t mean too much, but it ain’t bad to have some on your side. Looks like my Big Mo I have been seeking is turning into slow and steady wins the race. Not a bad Plan B.
