This morning’s massacre at an Orlando LGBT nightclub provides and ongoing confirmation of the chasm between Left and Right America.  From the national Democratic leadership and their lamestream media right down to our own RR readers of a markedly progressive bent, their impetus is to deny, minimize, or ignore –

  1. Any connection to Islam and Islamic teachings;
  2. Any connection to the longstanding Islamic jihad against the west;
  3. Any connection to the growth of ISIS sponsored/motivated attacks in the west;
  4. Any connection to this administration’s policies toward combating radical Islam;
  5. Any admission that such massacres are part and parcel of Islam’s resumption of the war between civilizations in all its dimensions;

Instead, the message from the Left and their local lackeys is that –

  1. To understand the night club massacre we must find a “common denominator” [Senator Bill Nelson (D)] between it and the killings like that of singer Christina Grimmie in Orlando;
  2. There is no connection between the killer Omar Mateen and the global Islamic jihad, his Islamic religion is just a coincidence;
  3. International terrorism consists of independent and coincidental acts of secular violence that have no relation to Islam nor Islamic organizations supporting worldwide jihad.
  4. ISIS had nothing to do with this, its recent online message boards targeting Florida and publishing a hit list of Americans to be killed was just a coincidence;
  5. The massacre was an act of “domestic terrorism” motivated by America’s still rampant homophobia and “insanely loose gun laws”;
  6. The murderer was simply a homegrown killer who hated the LGBTs, and went off the deep end because of America’s history of ‘gun violence’ and mass killings;
  7. Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric about vetting Islamic immigrants contributes to and lends justification to such acts.

And what of the liberals’ prescription for the country’s public response to killings?

  1. First and foremost, suppress any and all expressions – speech, analyses, reports, … – that smack of ‘Islamophobia’ since Islam remains a religion of peace;
  2. Double down on all efforts and initiatives to disarm law abiding Americans and abrogate the Second Amendment;
  3. In the interval make the legal acquisition and uses of firearms as restricted and difficult as possible;
  4. Minimize the display of American symbols, totems, and Americana in general so as not to create a ‘threatening environment’ to the Muslims among us;
  5. Rededicate our educational system to teach the historical misdeeds of America;
  6. Rededicate our diplomatic efforts to separate global terrorism from its Islamic wellsprings and sources;
  7. Rededicate our media’s presentations to portray America as the source of all the world’s ills in the areas of human rights, economics, and imperialism – apologize for our very existence.

[Update]  Now that the day is drawing to a close on the horrific massacre in Orland, it’s time to take stock on how the media, the federal government, and their grass roots constituents reacted.  It turns out that they nailed the above predictions and prescriptions as far as they went.  More to come.

  1. No mention of Islamic terrorism or jihad against the west from the feds, this in spite of overwhelming evidence that the shooter was a radical Muslim, gave credit to ISIS and its leadership for motivating him, died with ‘Allahu Akbar!’ on his lips, and that ISIS took full credit for being behind the massacre.
  2. Our president’s statement regarding the event was beyond lame, claiming that it was the result of “hatred” when the shooter and the rest of the world knows that it was about theocratic ideology, and that it was ISIS inspired and timed.
  3. The attributed proximal cause of the whole episode is the ready access to and legal possession of guns by law-abiding Americans. The occupation, training, and motivation of the killer is prudently ignored.  And this will be another crisis that must not be wasted to further proscribe America’s liberties.
  4. Our government has no anti-jihadist policy. Its claim of droning more ragheads than the previous administration is specious.  That kind of targeted killing of eagerly replaceable ISIS commanders has no effect on their spread across the world, and simply provides impetus for more Muslims – ‘migrants’ and citizens – to plan and commit lone wolf attacks.  The solution to wiping ISIS off the map in Syria and Iraq is not on the table.
  5. The feds claim that nothing more can be done in the US since monitoring 320M people is beyond any reasonable capability, while the truth is that only the 3M from whom the terrorists issue need closer scrutiny.
  6. By any measure, the bane of our pro-Islamic leadership that refuses to even name a sworn enemy which successfully operates within our borders and instead provides them succor can plausibly be seen as an act of an angry God. The spiritually inclined may rightfully ask what brought this curse upon us.

    Jeff Pelline, 4:29PM, the 2nd was “inserted” because they didn’t want the new government to end up acting like the King of England and banning arms to the people.
    Read the majority opinion in the Dred Scott decision, Jeff. Even free blacks were known to have the right to bear arms wherever they went.

    Yep, the liberal mind interprets Florida.

    “Finally, it’s not a gun problem. As Mark Alexander wrote yesterday, “If ‘gun control’ were the solution, then there would be no terrorism in Western Europe — and (thus far), the European attacks have had far more casualties. Furthermore, the Orlando attack took place in a ‘gun free’ zone — apparently, the bloodthirsty assailant didn’t pay attention to the sign.”

    To paraphrase Gregory’s 2:15 pm, criminals by definition break the law. A restraining order is a worthless defense to the person who requested the TRO, only to have the receiver of the TRO rip up that piece of paper, and promptly walk right through it. Criminals do not follow the law by definition.
    The Supreme Court has ruled that the 2nd Amendment is not about what politicians now and then say what it means, neither does it matter what was the original intent in a sense. Nah, the High Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment means what the common man on the street hears (interprets) what it means. They ruled that the common citizen heard the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Finally somebody made it simple. In plain English. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Antonin Scalia.
    Seems to me the right right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness includes defense of self and property, yet the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is not happening in gun free zones judging by the injury reports, not to mention the body counts inside gun free zones.

    re BillT’s 534pm – That’s another job for the liberals’ cricket corps, why there the ragheads have no problem getting guns in gun-free EU to do their killings.
    And as has been pointed out here too many times to count (see the latest from Gregory’s 435pm), our liberals have a totally different history for the US. The explicit writings of our Founders are never consulted; instead, they know better what the Founders really meant.

    Scalia’s loss is great. I was worried that the GOP would not be able to turn the election into a referendum on the 2nd Amendment but, sadly, a Democrat in Orlando did that for us in the worst way possible. Let’s hope it isn’t repeated before November but no one will be shocked if it it.
    I remain heartened that the Libertarian Party has nominated the best ticket in the LP’s history, and so far they are pulling as much support from Dems as they are the GOP. This is a good thing and mirrors my own history as a Democrat who just could not stomach what the party of Jefferson had become. Reagan made the claim that he didn’t leave the Democratic Party, they left him, and the modern DP is more about keeping in line and doing what the Party wants to keep the manna from heaven raining down on their gang. 19 trillion and counting.
    For shame.

    Here’s a bit of history for Jeff Pelline, thanks to Secretary Condi Rice:

    [In “Bombingham” of 1963], after the first explosion, Daddy just went outside and sat on the porch with his gun on his lap. He sat there all night looking for white night riders.
    Eventually Daddy & the men of the neighborhood formed a watch. They would take shifts at the head of the entrances to our streets. Occasionally they would fire a gun into the air to scare off intruders, but they never actually shot anyone.
    Because of this experience, I’m a fierce defender of the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. Had my father and his neighbors registered their weapons, Bull Connor surely would have confiscated them or worse. The Constitution speaks of the right to a well-regulated militia. The inspiration for this was the Founding Fathers’ fear of the government. They insisted that citizens have the right, if necessary, to resist the authorities themselves. What better example of responsible gun ownership is there than what the men of my neighborhood did in response to the KKK and Bull Connor?

    They formed a militia, just for their neighborhood, because the government’s local militia was part of the problem, not the solution.

    While not my cup of tea, don’t forget the Greens. Figured awhile back that with Hillary’s first instinct always always always is to make more money, to bend rules, push the ethics envelop to the max, and lie, lie, lie coupled with Citizen’s Trumps outspokenness, it would be the best year for the Greenies in decades. Yep, that ain’t saying much considering how the Greens have preformed during past elections, but a 100% increase over 1% is not bad.
    Kinda like green jobs. It’s the thought that counts and their boasting of soaring percentage increases. Sorta like 3% are involved in Greenie jobs in CA and I bet that includes recyclers like 2nd hand stores. Ok, 2.9% is triple what they had before Cash for Clunkers. Still, should be a good year for the other parties considering their past performances.
    Too funny that so many independents in CA registered under George Wallace’s American so and so Party. I had no idea there where so many Berners that love the late Governor of Alabama, or even his party was still alive and kicking.
    Your party sounds more up my alley. In a semi-related reference to Reagen’s quote, my sister (the published feminist and holder of wonderful degrees in Feminist Literature) said “the feminist movement left her” when she wanted to be a stay at home Mom. No room at the inn.

    I have changed my tune as more info emerges. The Orlando Raghead was once a G-4 officer, trained in police tactics. Sure, he was a security guard at the time according to the press, but this minimizes his training and experience with LE. He went to Saudi Arabia and told co-workers he wanted to kill all blacks. He planned the attack for months, casing various clubs for weaknesses. He was familiar with FLA law that forbids guns in drinking establishments, save private security. He sat alone in The Pulse, not dating or coming on to anybody. There are too many more clues to mention.
    I think this was a well planned attack. The first thing he did was gun down the armed security guard. Then it was like shooting fish in a barrel. He was in there for 3 friggin hours. 3 hours. He transferred title of his home to a relative before he went on his jihad.
    I believe that Omar’s narrative as an anti-gay guy who nutted up is wrong. Very wrong. He was looking for a soft target. He planned this for months. His hatred for gays is a convient excuse, a nice pat answer as to the why. Nay! Gays were the vehicle of his Islamic jihad, not the cause or catalyst.
    The story is clear. Jihad. Islamic law. Kill them where they live. Gays were his target but not his motivation. It’s Islam, stupid.
    As a side note, I laughed aloud when the mayor of West Hollywood was repulsed by rainbow Strike Back posters going up in his community. He said this is bad, wrong, wrong, wrong. “”The police will protect us.” No need to have guns, we have LE. Ok, right…….just remember the shooter quickly and effortlessly dispatched the armed security guard and spent 3 friggin hours inside with the police and swat teams outside. The police will protect gays or anybody at the drop of a hat? Nonsense. Too late. Too late for the victims waiting for the police to keep them safe.
    It’s radical Islam terrorism you idiots. That is your nice pat answer as to why. Islamics do things exactly like this.

    BillT@1034am – I think you can also make an argument that he was not a Radical Islamic Terrorist (RIT). He was an overt racist (kill all blacks). He was an overt gay hater (obviously). Why would a RIT want to ‘kill all blacks’? A lot of blacks are Muslim. You don’t have to be a Muslim to ‘kill a bunch of gays’. Plenty of Florida rednecks probably feel the same way about blacks and gays. The guy went to Saudi Arabia but it does not sound like he went to a RIT training camp.
    The Columbine massacre was more about going out in a big way (ego trip). Those nut jobs wanted to be ‘rock stars’ much like the story told by Muslim suicide bombers – get your picture on the front of the Internet, become famous. The Columbine kids wanted to outdo the Oklahoma City bombing (neither of which were RIT sanctioned events).
    The Orlando shooter was a copycat killer who hit a nightclub. A case could be made that he (just like all the other attention seeking nutjobs) wanted to go out in a blaze of bullets.
    He may have believed that his actions would be sanctioned by Islam, who knows?

    Brad: The Columbine shooters, like the Sandy Hook mass murderer were all on head meds NOT authorized by the FDA for non-adults. That is the common thread of ALL those school shootings at the time. You know, those anti-depressants and mental meds that schools and doctors pass out like candy to control kids. Never approved for those who are not of adult age.
    Brad, I also included “killing all blacks” in my argument to show fair info on purpose about the Islamic Ametican. But he never killed blacks. Kinda like some old decrepit Klansman talking endlessly about “lynching the coloreds” but never lifting a finger or ever actually stringing anybody up his entire life or kidnapping or shooting anybody, black or white or the forgotten minority that is rarely included in the “black, brown, Asian, gay, straight, white, transgender, Pacific Islander” list, aka, us Redmen. Ok, off topic.
    What was the shooter’s real motivation? Kill gays, blacks, or kill infidels? Judging by his own words and actions, it was jihad. If he wanted to kill gays, he would have done it without getting all his affairs in order. 25 to life as a minimum. But no. He was hell bent on jihad and not coming back. That is why he did not surrender to LE after killing gays (if that was his motivation). He was after infidels….the more the merrier, including LE. Just look at all the different people he called during those 3 hours. Did he call some gay community organizers and place threats or boasted? No. Did he say he was going the Islamic thang? Yes.
    Sure, he had issues. Lots of issues. Jihad was his solution to all his issues.

    PS to Brad. I erred. The list of all the different people that is rattled off usually omits the Jews, not just those savage Redskins. 🙂
    BTW, liked your earlier post about the lady in the men’s bathroom. Bet he was glad he could stand to pee again. He/she looks like he could really give ya a great bear hug. The real question I have is this:
    With all this science debate from Man made Climate Change to every aspect of our lives, why is this bathroom thing so different??? It is not based on science. Even shrinks are divided, some (many) calling being a transgender a mental illness, others say differently. The science tells me that no matter Olympian Bruce Jennier does to himself, he still has the same X or Y chromosomes that he had at birth. Science tells me that his chromosomes, his DNA, his RNA, and everything that makes him a male has not changed, even if he wears a beautiful skirt, grows man boobs, and has his Peter lopped off. Science tells me he is a male today and forever more.
    Remember back in the 60’s when a female Polish Olympian weightlifter was stripped of her Gold Medal because the tests showed she had an extra chromosome, thus she was not a true female. Neither man or female of all things.
    Now, the question. Are you telling me a doll is a guy solely because she says she is? Is a guy a female solely because he says he is? What about the science most worship and hold as the defining last word? Odd. I am a female today because I say so??? WTF.
    Finally, I don’t have any problem with anybody in the men’s lavatory. None. What the problem is as far as I can see is OLDER men in the same bathroom/dressing area with young women/adolescent girls..

    Dr.R@1;54pm – I am not excluding that possibility. I am merely responding to BillT who seems sure he is/was a RIT.
    This business of immediately labelling any and all attackers RITs started a few years back (I think) when Obama was accused of not using the RIT label over one or another attack somewhere soon enough to suit the war hawks. I noticed Trump immediately labeled the Egypt flight that recently went down in the Med as a terrorist bombing. Does he have inside information?
    We might as well be working for Nick the Greek because all we are doing is laying odds that the plane went down due to RIT, the Orlando shooter was a Manchurian RIT, and so on. It is all just a lot of horse race style handicapping until we get some actual proof.
    It might be a good idea to define what constitutes a RIT. For example, if you are not affiliated with a group of radicals making vest bombs, not attending desert training camps, not hanging out at mosques or drinking mint tea with radical jihadis at the local falafel joint, etc.; are you just a lone wolf who shoots up a bar, or are you a RIT?

    BradC 1117am – I think the problem of identifying someone as a radical Islamic terrorist (your RIT, my raghead) is fairly simple – you believe what they say, especially their credos proferred in anticipation of imminent martyrdom. It’s hard to conceive that a person would prepare to leave this world lying about what is most dear to him. If he talks like a RIT and then ‘walks’ like a raghead (note the distinction), he’s a raghead. Our hubris (actually the progressives’ hubris) is always to put ideologically conducive – to our worldview – thoughts into others’ minds and words into their mouths.

    Yep, the FBI tried. Unless it is under unusual circumstances, the FBI cannot do surveillance on mosques or the good Islamic folk. The Justice Department says to the FBI, “No, no, no, no. Islam is a religion of peace, therefore no need (stop) to look there. They are so peaceful the Muslim community and clerics will report to you if they detect a potential messy problem.” Oh, lest the FBI forgets, the info will be delivered to you via DOJ’s designated spokesperson from CAIR or whatever the Islamophobe Detector’s group is called. Sad, but 100% fact. Very sad.
    You know what is sadder? Glad you asked. Our trained (restrained) immigration vetting public servants cannot derive ANY info from the applicants social media posts. Like, if one (hypothetically of course) pledged his allegiance to Ahab the Arab and love of some Islamic State, the poor handcuffed vetter cannot take that into account. IF they somehow stumble across some Twitter or FB hate America the Great Satan delightful posts by the applicant, they must ignore such insights into our dear helpless immigrant’s frame of mind and as such it cannot be taken into ANY decision making.
    Looks like we are back to “don’t ask, don’t tell.” The FBI is the fall guy here.
    You know Brad, I have a confession to make. I disagree 100% with The Donald when he said at some rally two days after Orlando 2:02am that Obama does not know what he is doing. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Obama knows exactly what he is doing.

    Ah, the ole “does not represent Islam’s few bad apples.” Well, somebody better tell that to this American ISIL soldier. Yes, I said soldier, as in soldier of Allah. Al-Amriki means The American.
    (The slogan “You are not held responsible except for yourself” is also featured in the video, with an image of President Obama on one side, Mateen on the other and images of the Orlando slaughter in-between).
    “Do you think you’re at war with a small group of Mujahedeen in Iraq, Syria, Libya and other places? You are sadly mistaken. And do you think you can defeat us by bombarding our homes with the help of your drones and F-16s [and government groups]? Then again, you have sadly made a great mistake,” Al-Amriki says. “Oh America, indeed you are at war with all the true and sincere Muslims around the world.”
    Now, the moral equilivent to this is 2 white boys dragging a couple of gay men down the road in 18 years ago in Wyoming? Proof of rouge radicals in Wyoming of all places in 1998. Things have changed in the last decade alone.
    Or is 49 dead and 53 wounded the moral equivalent of that gawd awful hideous Westborough Baptist Church doing its thing again yesterday protesting funerals for two of Orlando’s gay victims? I despise that off the rails group and it’s a good test of my tolerance of free speech and the 1st Amendment, if nothing else.
    Or is Orlando, San Berdino, Fort Hood, Boston, Paris, Belgium, France, The Twin Towers (twice) the moral equivalent of that guy who killed 9 Black Christians at a Bible Study?
