Walt, May 26, 8:35pm Did you read the article you posted? It was much ado about nothing, but made for good headlines (and it gave me a good chuckle). Nothing happened, it was pure speculation of what someone thought could happen (although it is more likely that the sheep would fall asleep or get the munchies).

Walt, in general terms only, the far lefties hate Christianity, thus they mock you the same way Obama mocked those clinging to their Bibles.
This is not being unfair on my part. They have a big big problem with “the Christian God” and extreme fear of being judged. Like they were born with an innate fear of “Judgement Day”. In fact, I would go as far as to proclaim the mere mention of God (the Christian God) is much more than fingernails on the blackboard to them. Much, much more. It strikes at the very depts of their being like no other thing under the sun. They hate the light, having their evil deeds and secret thoughts revealed and thus hate/blame Christians. Yes, Christianity is full of people who have been damaged by what some “Church goer” said or what some “Christian” off the rails once uttered to them years ago.
But, there is good news! The lefties have finally found a religion they can rally around, defend, and promote. Great news. That religion is known as Islam (without the Sharia Law part).

Have to ask the question why the Union in its front page story about W campaign funding failed to even mention the other 2 No on W committees? The one based in Sac that had donations from a DC money bundler, LA area and a SF Lawyer reports $45,000.00 spent so far, you would think that would be relevant or are they suppressing the fact that outside the County moneyed interests are trying to deny us our local control by buying the election? Then there is the other committee that paid for the last Union insert. You will be hearing more on this. 😉

Is anyone surprised that the pot profiteers have pumped about a 100k into little Nevada County? We have these shadowy groups blasting us with deliberately confusing ads that in some cases adopt our language.
ON top of that we have another shadowy self serving gang flooding District 2 with mailers trying to buy the District 2 Republican committee. I know the fine print says it was without permission and also I know at least one name who is not endorsing the others in those very expensive, slick mailers. I bet if we look closely we will find the pot dealers behind trying to again deny us our free choices in Nevada County.

Don, I am willing to listen to you only if you can back up your claims about these ‘shadow groups’ with specific references to the data that support your claims. Please direct me to links to ads in publications, quote the language on the signs you see in yards, name some names, and/or official state or county links to campaign reporting.
Otherwise, I will discount your claims as more shilling for the Sheriff and his claims of Big MJ buying elections (buying candidates?).
$100,000 could buy a lot of yard signs I imagine. Are yard signs that influential? They are more like visual pollution to me.

The sheriff’s claim of big MJ money buying elections should be put into context. What about the alcohol and tobacco companies that put big money into anti-pot measures and people? I guess it is OK for corporate money coming into local elections via super pacs as long as the money supports the right wing power grab that is measure W. It’s not about the money. It’s about power and Nevada County’s small but very vocal right wing cabal trying to force their backward ideology onto the rest of us while many other cities are preparing for legalization and the resulting tax revenue they will gain as a result. Things change, people and societal values evolve whether you like it or not. Slavery was once commonly accepted as normal until attitudes evolved to the contrary. Sticking one’s head in the sand and barking like a seal is not the solution and that is pretty much what seems to be the case here.

Outside influences have always informed and sometimes even swayed us. Information washes freely across our country, that is how an open liberal democracy works. And whether the ‘outside money’ is spent directly within our county or in, say, online media really makes no never mind because we are not bound as to from where we garner input. No matter which side starts hollering that ‘outside money is evil and shouldn’t cross our county line’, such desperate messages are really designed for our light thinking neighbors, few of whom read these pages.
