Look to him who comes in with another’s concern in order to go out with his own. … Gracian #193

George Rebane

No debate about replacing Justice Scalia should proceed before the Democratic precedents denying a sitting Republican president the same privilege receive full airing. At that time the debate should commence with the Dems demonstrating why the case is different today when one of their own occupies the White House.  Here is what one of the Dynamic Democrat Duufuses, Sen Schumer, has to say about it – pay attention all you liberals who gleefully cite past Repub ripostes.

“The Use of Cash is really a Civil Rights issue.” (more here) The latest Agenda21 objective involves the central planners’ desire to monitor and control ALL financial transactions.  But first we must eliminate cash, and the first step in that direction is making cash more cumbersome to use as a medium of exchange and store of value.  (Electronic money serves equally as a unit of account.)

Closing Gitmo for the purpose of denying ragheads a recruiting icon again exposes the bankruptcy of liberal logic. If/when the Muslims are moved to stateside SuperMax prisons, outfits like ISIS will have even more draconian pictures of prisons to put up on their recruiting websites.  This is lost on progressives.  (Gitmo continues to be a valuable outpost of America’s power and presence in the Caribbean, and apparently citing its maintenance costs have not served the pro-Islamist stance of this administration.)

The proposition that America’s minorities – especially our blacks – do not serve their best interests in the voting booth becomes easier to demonstrate with every passing year. And that is why the maintenance of union schools is paramount in the progressives’ agenda, for it shuts off the only peaceful escape from the clutches of creeping, now galloping, collectivism.

[24feb16 update] What most people forget about Gitmo is that it is also a very strategically located piece of US real estate in the Caribbean, useful for everything from projecting power in the region and points south, and staging humanitarian aid that includes being a temporary repository for migrants.  It remains also the penultimate trump card in dealing with communist Cuba (a fact lost on the current community organizer).  That it is a legalistically convenient detention facility for ragheads taken from the battlefield has been much covered elsewhere and needs no rehashing here.

Remember last December’s climate change conference in Paris from which all left with lots of promises and good feelings? Actually it turned out to be yet another good collectivists' cathartic and dumping ground for progressive bullshit.  Reports coming in from around the globe indicate that no one is doing anything to even pretend to move the needle on preventable global warming.  Brazil, with its economy in the toilet continues to burn ever more rainforests, is the posterchild here.  It demonstrates once more to the double-dummies of the Left that only rich countries can maintain a clean environment and afford the destructive environmental histrionics that their socialistic governments impose.  And these are the very same people who haven’t a clue about what generates wealth and how governance can support such enterprises.

The Collective Cricket Core reports on the declining interest in the primaries among Democrat voters. While the Republicans’ participation is reaching new heights, those of the Left are staying home, and for a good reason given their choices.  Only the undereducated young (millennials) desperate for a tolerable lifestyle – even if it only means opening checks from the government – are out there in numbers drinking socialist kool-aid.   Most older Dems have seen the ‘benefits’ of what Bernie and now Hillary are promising, and they just shake their heads and give the primary season a pass.  None of this known to the la-la land leftwing pundits and bloggers who continue to happy dance in the streets for reasons they themselves know not.

[28feb16 update] Facebook confirms the country's extremes of political polarization.  The vitriolic exchanges on the social medium have gotten so bad that people are ‘Unfriending’ each other based on their support of certain candidates.  Worse, many are reporting that they now hesitate going on Facebook because they are apprehensive about their session becoming “stressful”.  Facebook management hopes that things will again become friendlier after election season.

Warren Buffett’s annual letter to shareholders reveals that he now believes in the reality of systemic unemployment (as long discussed on RR), and that the solution is simply government writing regular checks (“safety net programs”) to those who claim they no longer can sell their skills on the job market. Mr Buffett is a likeable corporatist who knows better than Trump about how to play politicians.  As such he exemplifies the Rebane Rule of capitalism – the bad part of capitalism is that it will game the system; the good part of capitalism is that it will game the system.  In this election he is a Hillary supporter presumably because she has demonstrated her reliable malleability to money.

At least I said you have a little bit of street cred, you big lovable condescending SOB. Take the compliments where and when you get them, albeit few and far between. Oh Jon, can you come out and play??? Mark the tape on this one.
Yep, I b more angry today than usual. Redneck? You bet! Hey, some libs consider the word redneck as something derogatory. Imagine that. Reminiscent of when Reagon won the election and the French newspaper declared him a cowboy, as if that was some kind of derogatory term. Imagine that. Well, call moi a redneck all day long, but at least I have a neck, unlike some whose large heads appears to be sitting on their shoulders, if you catch my drift. Kinda like cankles, but on top of the shoulders.
Speaking on that cowboy Reagen, the first thing he did on his first day in the Oval Office was to send a message. The Soviet diplomats drove into the State Department garage as usual, only to find their parking spaces had been revolked. Park on the street, if you find a place, Pinko Bastards. Yep, my kind of anger. Sweet anger.
Then when Reagen sent the air strike on Libya and the demolished their top general’s personal abode, the French newspapers declared that the Cowboy just put Jimmy Carter’s play nice policies into the antique closet. Now, that was the best compliment the Frog and Snail eaters could ever bestow.
Angry, angry, angry..,that be me!!! Ring around the rosies, pocket full of posies, anger, anger, we all fall down. I be an angry guy. Angry, angry, angry, angry, angry. There Jon, I said it for you so you don’t have to play that record over and over again. Does that make you angry? Angry, angry, I b angry. Angry, angry, angry. Oh, I just can’t get enough of the sweet stuff you call me. Please, oh please Jon, call me angry again and angry. If you don’t, I might get angry, angry, angry, angry, angry, angry.
An angry redneck moron is not a pleasant sight. Please call me angry till the cows come home. Pretty please, with lots of whipped cream and chocolate kisses and cherries on top, and, of course, strawberries soaked in Courvoisier, the brandy Napoleon preferred when dying of sexual transmitted diseases. . . Please. Oh, I beg you, call me angry!!! Please. Let me hear the music to my ears, “Angry, anger, angry, anger. Thank you in advance for responding to my cries for help, dumbass.

    Re Dr. R’s 12:47 p.m.:
With five candidates in the race, the Republicans should have a big turnout compared to the Democrats, who have two candidates, but only one that’s taken seriously by the majority of the party.
Don’t worry, there will be plenty of Dems at the polls in November if Trump or Cruz is the Republican candidate. What will be interesting is how many Republicans stay home on election day if Trump or Cruz is the nominee.

Pure Symbolism: EPA Chief: ‘We don’t have to prove that any reduction’ in CO2 makes a difference in ‘global warming’
‘We don’t have to prove that any reduction will actually make a precipitous difference in and of itself’
Responding to the contention that if all Canadian oil sands production were stopped today it would only reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by one-tenth of one percent, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy says it doesn’t matter that it wouldn’t make a difference. McCarthy: “You know what? We had that argument at the Supreme Court and we won decisively… We don’t have to prove that any reduction in and of itself will actually make a precipitous difference”.
REPORTER: “It’s one-tenth of one percent of global emissions. If production in the oil sands stopped today, it wouldn’t make a difference.”
ADMINISTRATOR GINA MCCARTHY: “You know what? You would do that with every single source of greenhouse gases, and we had that argument at the Supreme Court, and we won decisively. Which was that we don’t need to prove that every single source is going to stop greenhouse gas emissions, but if the attitude is that that’s the challenge for us, we will never stop global warming. We will never stop climate change. And, so that has just never been the case for EPA. We don’t have to prove that any reduction will actually make a precipitous difference in and of itself, but we have to admit that there is a lot of efforts need to be done to get at this issue, and it is that combined effort. But, every step, the first step– this is a marathon, and if you don’t take the first step, you ain’t getting nowhere baby.”

Jon, a small point of disagreement. In the general population, Trump’s negatives are less than Hillary’s negatives (of being not trustworthy or honest). You might call that comparing apples to oranges, but Hillary’s dishonesty is her top negative. Among Dems, only 30% think Hillary is not a honest person. Only 30% believe she is an habitual liar? No hope for the other 70%
The polls I saw last week or so had Trump’s negatives at 54 or 56%, can’t rightly remember but I am sure you do. The negatives for Hillary across the board where 63%. That means the lion’s share of independents feel Hillary is a lying piece of noise. Hard to vote for anyone you think is dishonest and untrustworthy. I know neither of us would ever do that. Neither would Paul. Easier to vote for someone one may not like than one you consider in it only for her dishonest self seeking changes with the wind self. Time will tell.
Sanders definitely is the one with integrity here. Probably has higher morals and character than anyone else in the race. But he does not know how to go for the jugular. And if he did, he would not go there. The Clintons spend all their time creaming their jeans on different ways to go for the jugular using dirty tricks, lies, and all means necessary. They thrive on it. I feel that Senator Sanders has enough convictions and character that he would rather lose by taking the high road than win by playing dirty. That is something Hillary cannot ever understand.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint to the finish. Tell will tell.

Dr. Rebane, I have not been following the Dem voter turnout numbers. There is support for Clinton and Sanders. The rubber will meet the road at the primaries and general election. We know that Dems vote because we have had 8 years of Obama. I do know that, just like former workers who are no longer looking for work, there are former, or wouldbe, voters who don’t vote because they think the whole system is corrupt and the fix is in. It does not seem that way to me this year as far as the Presidential election is concerned with Trump and Sanders in the game. But neither Trump nor Sanders are going to get their big ideas realized without a corrupt Congress’s say so. I would like to see some of the old timers in Congress in both parties given their walking papers this year but don’t know if any in particular are up for election, or if they have any opposition.

I would assume a President Trump would get Mexico to pay for a fence with tariffs on Mexican goods and services, funds transfers, etc, and the Mexican government wouldn’t have a say in the matter. “Jon”/Frisch has such a limited imagination.
Now, it would be Americans who then would pay more for the same goods and services, but politically, it would be Mexico who pays and Mexico would be hurt more than the USA.
I note the new claim by “Jon” that, while he has a man crush on Steven Frisch of the wretchedly misnamed Sierra Business Council, he lives 50 miles away from his heartthrob. Since I know Frisch has made things up in the past, for now I’ll assume this latest is similarly untruthful. Sad, since a Bromance is a terrible thing to waste. Although I am no longer a registered Democrat like in my youth, does that count?? After Hillary and the entire DNC and Establish Machine takes down Bernie, this is how I see it.
In November, the Dems will be voting against Trump out of fear. The Republicans will be voting for Trump out of enthusiasm. The low Dem turnouts in 3 out of 3 primaries so far (compared to 2008, down 33% in Nevada, 20% in Bernie Country NH, 20% in Iowa with 24/7 hype and big door to door ground plans)….well, neither one is O.
The Republicans have turned in record breaking voter numbers in each of there 4 primaries. All time records. Now, which side is invigorated, stirred up, ready to win?

Personally I’d say that the chance of Sanders winning the nomination is nil. The fix is in, so you might as well build your political astrology on Clinton vs ? (likely Trump at this point, but who knows?). I like watching the Democrats put their money on someone who is as corrupt as LBJ, but it’s hard to tell how much of a failure a Clinton administration might be. There’s a lot of luck involved.
It would be easy to shine all this on as ripples in the downswing of a secular cycle, with all the social problems that that implies, but for (probably) the first time in history, advances in technology are going to play 52 card pickup in human society.

Iran knew that Carter was a wimp, but they were unsure of Reagan, he just might send the Marines to get the hostages, backed up by the full strength and power of the US military, thus the hostages were released on the day Reagan took office. Being unsure what President Trump will do can be a powerful negotiating advantage. When Kadaffi decide to play hardball with the US he got two missiles through his bedroom window. He played straight with the US until Obama and Hillery came to play global politics and to do the EU’s and Sid Blumenthal’s dirty work. Now, look where we are in Libya, growing ISIS threat to critical oil resources. We need more uncertainty in how US military power might be used by President Trump, Obama tells the world what he is going to do next and many times fails to execute. Tozer, of course the GOP turnout is in record numbers- they’ve had a maniacal primary with a record number of candidates and fear mongering topics to stir up their lunatic base. There are a bunch of you yahoos getting all riled up in the primary season. OK, so now follow the math, as I asked Walt to do. How do you get Trump from his consistent 40% in the GOP primaries (round number) to at LEAST 45% of the General Electorate? When he has visciously attacked everyone but Handsome Marco Rubio (his presumptive VP). Do you really think Cruz’s maniacal 20-25% loyal following is going to just forget about all the Trump attacks and cast their votes his way? Give you that half will do that. But again, the only Cruz maniac I know is not forgetting, doesn’t trust Trump, and reports he will not vote for Trump this year- he’d rather sit it out and (he say) wait for Hillary to implode or be indicted during her first term..he also reports its a common sentiment in his Tea Brigade.

That’s a bit silly. It’s like asking how Hillary (the fer sure nominee) can expect to win given that she is only receiving 49% of the Democratic primaries (plus some dead people + the mysterious superdelegates).
The general will be a whole new ball game. If it turns into a highly simplified free trade/pro Wall St./pro minority/pro open border vs pro closed border/tariff/anti (or neutral) minority kind of thing, you can expect a bunch of cross party voting this time. You can smell it in the air, politics will be less about money and more about race and culture, and I have no clue what the end game will be.
