Former AG Mukasey on MSNBC drew our attention to certain paragraphs of US Code, Title 18. Section 2071.

a) Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so, or, with intent to do so takes and carries away any record, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
(b) Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States. As used in this subsection, the term “office” does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.”  (emphasis mine)

We await FBI Director Comey’s finest hour.

Union publisher Jim Hemig writes a cordial salute (here) to his predecessor Jeff Ackerman upon his retirement from the Swift newspaper ‘empire’.  I knew Jeff and considered him a friend as we enjoyed our coffees and lunches when I was one of The Union’s regular columnists.  At that time Jeff was serving as both publisher and editor of the newspaper after informing the former editor that he was redundant.  I’m sure that many of RR readers join me in wishing Jeff a long, healthy, and productive retirement – after all, the man does have trouble sitting still for long.

Muslim migrants are bused to Berlin to protest Angela Merkel’s relocation policy that forces small German towns to resettle thousands of counter-culturated economic refugees seeking to make better lives and establish more Islamic enclaves in Europe.  The protests are not to halt the flood of migrants, but to devote more federal resources to provide for the new arrivals.  Meanwhile, New Year’s Eve revelations gave rise to many more reports of sexist attacks on women from other European capitals and cities with significant Muslim populations.  All this is happening in a background of rising law suits by EU member countries that refuse to admit more refugees while attempting to halt illegal border crossings.  At the same time the American Left maintains its insane stance of inviting unvetted and unvettable Muslims to live among us.

[16jan16 update] The 16jan16 Union published ‘Swansong from an Alternate Universe’ which I submitted in a slightly edited version (here).  Those of who are lifelong scribblers for fun and profit always like to have their voices heard by wider audiences.  As a member of that crowd, I am no different.  So I again thank the Union’s publisher Jim Hemig and editor Brian Hamilton for sparing some timely real estate for one of my diatribes.

EuropeDividing

In ‘Europe’s New Medieval Map’ Robert Kaplan of the Center for a New American Security presents a clear, coherent, and compact review of the tremendous changes now occurring in the EU, and how we are belatedly recognizing them without yet knowing how to come to terms with the new reality that will affect us much more than what is happening in east Asia. Longtime RR readers have been introduced to most of these notions and ideas over the years.  Dr Kaplan’s piece is a scholarly and readable update of how Europe has come full circle since the days of Charlemagne.

Piling on, 'The European Disunion' is another analysis with similar conclusions from the Council on Foreign Relations published in Foreign Affairs.

"Liberal Professors Outnumber Conservative Faculty 5 to 1. Academics Explain Why This Matters' reports recent data from a Washington Post survey.  We continue to be amazed at how many liberals, especially of these foothills variety, who continue to dispute this ideological predominance now firmly ensconced for decades.

Iran continues playing Obama like a violin. In a few days we will lift economic sanctions on Iran and hand it $150,000,000,000 to continue building its nuclear arms and support global Islamic terrorism.  Iran appears to have been playing nice by capturing, embarrassing, then releasing ten American sailors in the Persian Gulf, and then swapping four long-held American hostages for seven Iranian terrorists and promise to stop chasing 14 more of them.  Our lamestream is dutifully reporting just one side of that to make Obama’s case that we have pulled off a successful nuclear deal with Iran.  The astute American knows this is one more big National Lie that the administration is rolling out.

Iran shipped some unknown percentage of their moderately enriched uranium to Russia, and disabled 7,500 uranium enriching centrifuges. While Obama and Kerry are leading the happy dancing, no lamestream outlet tells America that these numbers mean nothing.  Why?  Because we are not allowed free and immediate inspections of Iranian nuclear weapons facilities, and we have not required Iran to certify any baseline amount of enriched uranium or numbers of operating centrifuges that had to be part of the agreement.  The numbers they quote are meaningless; as meaningless as when Hillary or the IRS announces that they have released so many thousands of emails or pages of documents to congressional investigators.  Only progressives and gruberized Americans swallow such pabulum.  Yes Virginia, we really are that stupid.  (more also on Gitmo exchanges here)

As a volunteer Columnist for The Union, my relationship with Jeff Ackerman was not as smooth. I wrote 11 volunteer columns for Jeff, two of which were on the science of global warming. He decided my contributions were no longer need, “I pay professional to write about climate change, I do not need your opinion.” He was paying Amy Goodman a lefty warmer to write columns and she often presented the warmer’s climate change arguments. What I often wondered is, was Jeff an anthropogenic warmer or was it someone close to him that did not want to deal with the facts about anthropogenic global warming. Or, maybe he just got too many crank phone calls from Nevada County’s pack of environmentalist wackos, lead by Anna Haynes, and opted to support the warmer cause as a path of least resistance. Now that we can comment again on letters and columns in the Union, I just try to keep the anthropogenic warmers on the path to scientific enlightenment. It is so much fun, more fun than writing a column on deadline.

Jon 136pm – All those referenced by FBI Director Comey stating that the bureau cannot vet. I might add, that one really has to be ignorant about background checks of people from second and third world countries that are also in the chaos of war to believe that such procedures can be executed to any level of acceptable cost, schedule, or verity. However, Obama is secure in knowing that the overwhelming fraction of his constituency is exactly so burdened.

66% of Germans now think they can not handle the invasion from the middle east, a 20% shift. Merkel now has a 39% approval rating. Towns in Germany starting to place limits on ‘refugees’, a town has banned them from the local pool for grossly inappropriate behavior towards females and staff. At the same time EU boss says take more while member nations are closing boarders right and left, ignoring the EU. Brits are going to vote to leave or stay in the EU in the not too distant future.

I do not have any pictures. However, there are thousands of illegals caught crossing the border who are listed as “OTM” (Other than Mexican).
Records from a detention center near Phoenix, AZ, show illegals from Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, and Yemen in custody.
Former Arizona Congressman JD Hayworth said in an interview, “There are definitely people out there who mean to do us harm who have crossed that border.”

“The American public has been kept in the dark about this whole issue,” said Dave Stoddard, a former border patrol agent with 20 years of experience.
ISIS knows the border is open and will take advantage of the opportunity. They are very clever at exploiting our political correct weaknesses. It is only time until there is positive proof that ISIS is crossing into the US from Mexico. Stay tuned.

Back to the FBI. The smartest thing the FBI did till now was back in the Bubba years. Bill put Hillary in charge of White House Travel Department, which of course led to Travelgate. “Don’t touch those roses on you desks, they are not for you!! You are all fired, get out.”
Ok, nothing to do with the FBI….yet. So, Bill put her in charge of picking the Attorney General and we got a couple (Zoe Bard and what’s her name) before Hillary picked Janet Reno, who Bill Clinton said was the worse decision of his Presidency.
Finally, the FBI: Bill let her pick her choice for White House Security and just like that we have White House staffers pouring over FBI files on Republican legislators. Seems the FBI had an agent with files down in the WH Security Office for many Adminisrations. After Filegate broke, the next day the FBI closed its office in the White House Security section and did not return until Bubba got disbarred…er…as long as Hillary Rodman Clinton occupied the WH. She also hand picked Web Hobbel it that rings a bell.

I learned something about libs a long time ago. During the early stages of the OJ murder trial when the 911 tapes of a screaming for help Nicole Simpsom were released, the women started having candlelight vigils for battered women. Then the word came down from the NOW Headquarters to shut the domestic violence talk down because you are “attacking a brother.” Tammy Bruce, the head of the LA chapter of NOW resigned in protest. Lesson learned: Race trumps gender. From Clarence Thomas to Dr. Condi Rice, to Ben Carson, the treatment of conservative black people of influence is abhorant, disgusting. Lesson learned: politics trumps race. As I look at Eurarabia, lesson learned is ideology trumps politics, race (ethnic group) trumps gender, again. And boy are the women getting pissed. Hate to be a peaceful German or Swede and get an earful each time I get home from the grind.

PS: Mr. Boardman. In my high school back in the era of good public education (with non-Union teachers) we were required to read the New Yorker and do reports on short stories found there. The sweet teacher had a stack of New Yorkers on her desk, waiting for one of us to publish a story story someday.. She also required us to read Poe’s wonderful short stories, albeit they were on the dark side. Steinbeck’s was great for short stories as well, but the New Yorker ones were deep, man. Heck, by the time she was done with us, I considered The Catcher in the Rye just a longer form of a short story. 🙂 Too bad they banned the Catcher in the Rye.

I have to admit that I’ve been thinking a lot about that lately. There seems to be a political upheaval going on and people are forming up new sides. Just a quick quote from a John Derbyshire podcast:

A lot of people still think of “left” and “right” as some kind of difference over economics. There are still some traces of that, but when we talk about “left” and “right” nowadays, the real divide is between nationalism and demographic stability on one side, globalism and multiculturalism on the other.
In all Western countries, wellnigh everyone wants a welfare state, and wellnigh everyone wants a thriving capitalist economy. Those things aren’t controversial. What’s controversial is the idea of a nation as being the home of some one particular people of mostly common ancestry and common culture.
    ..snip..
It used to be, a hundred years ago, even fifty years ago, that you could take a person’s political temperature, so to speak — I mean, you could get a quick rough gauge of how much you were likely to agree or disagree with him — by finding out how much he hated rich people. Note that the person whose temperature you were taking might himself be rich; the expression “limousine liberal” has been around for a while.
Nowadays if you want to take someone’s political “temperature” you get a much more accurate reading by figuring out how much he hates white people. Again, there is no bar to he himself being white; the word “ethnomasochist” hasn’t been around as long as “limousine liberal,” but I did once trace it as far back as 1981.
    …..(from Radio Derb, Dec.18, 2015)
While I can’t say that that 100% describes a new political reality (what statement does really), but there’s a certain ring of truth there. People tend to choose sides in a debate from the gut rather than pure logic, so maybe it’s something in the water.

just to shoot out another thought, just think about the possibilities for ethnic strife coming up (in Europe especially) if there are ongoing collapses in commodities prices. Not just strong declines in oil, but also in other raw materials.
Overcapacity plus an upcoming recession in parts of the West plus little troubles in big China.
Bang. A whole bunch of economic refugees pouring out of both Africa and the Middle East as economies based mostly on resource extraction take a big hit. Hilarity ensues.

“This is why the greatest mistake of the Right is to treat the Left ‘fairly’. Free speech protections cannot apply to the Left. Why? Because they will not respect them for anyone else. Do not hire the Leftist. Do not feed the Leftist. Do not promote the Leftist. Do not traffic in any way with the Leftist. They are the enemy. The only one? No, but the most proximate and lethal.” Harsh, dude.

BARACK OBAMA, ARMING OUR ENEMIES AND DISARMING OUR CITIZENS SINCE 2009: ‘Fast & Furious’ rifle capable of taking down a helicopter found in ‘El Chapo’ cache. “A .50-caliber rifle found at Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s hideout in Mexico was funneled through the gun-smuggling investigation known as Fast and Furious, sources confirmed Tuesday to Fox News. . . . When agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives checked serial numbers of the eight weapons found in his possession, they found one of the two .50-caliber weapons traced back to the ATF program, sources said.”
Remember, the purpose of this program was to put weapons in Mexican gangsters’ hands that could be traced back to American sales, as a pretext for stricter gun regulations here. They were willing to accept increased deaths as collateral damage.

Talk about crazy spin. Hillary is a victim of an Obama nominated Senate confirmed IG who had 2 Republicans write the IG so he could have a lame excuse to investigate her e-mails just to smear her campaign??? Ah, the ole Vast Right Wing Conspircacy has reemerged with a new twist, blaming the IG. Wait, not a new twist. Judge Kenneth Star (although not an IG) is to blame as well. It’s a bloody conspiracy I tell ya.
Nope, Hillary, not even close. The White House is trying to smear you….smear you solely for the actions your initiated and exclusively for the actions you did. It’s The White House, stupid. They hate you. But, the White House is just leaking heads ups, not fiction. Be that as it may, the only one to blame besides the Great Vast Vast Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is the Grandma in the mirror.
