I have been an NRA member all my life, and have always held that the Second Amendment is one of the necessary pillars that maintain what today is left of our Constitution and our democratic republic.  Those who promote global governance and central planning by elites know that a legally armed citizenry stands in the way of this fundamental Agenda 21 objective introduced and promoted by the UN.  Over the years, the private ownership and use of guns has been made more and more difficult, with the openly avowed objective of finally banning their ownership altogether.

As we prepare to hear President Obama’s final State of the Union speech, we should note that the current initiative to curb lawful gun ownership and use is promoted under the rubric of halting ‘gun violence’.  As we will witness tonight, the manner in which this notion is communicated is utterly fallacious, cynical, and qualifies it as one of today’s dominant National Lies that our government promotes and the lamestream media dutifully trumpets over the land.

Recognizing the Founders’ Second Amendment intent, the NRA has long been a champion of gun safety and the responsible ownership of firearms.  But under progressive leadership the federal and states governments have abrogated their clearly spelled out duties under current gun laws, and instead seek to incorporate another layer of laws that will do nothing to achieve their claimed benefits.  The Left’s standard response has always been to ignore the verity of the facts, repeat the National Lie, and simply attack the current messenger.  Wayne LaPierre, NRA’s Executive Vice President, spells it out (emphases in the original).

Here’s what the media won’t tell you. The NRA has fought for 20 years to put the records of those adjudicated mentally incompetent into the National Instant Check System. And until the politicians demand that they are submitted, killers who are legally prohibited from owning firearms will walk into gun stores and pass every background check they take.

So if they really wanted to make a difference, the media would lead every newscast with a reminder that the names of millions of violent felons, criminal gangbangers and adjudicated mentally incompetent and dangerous people are missing from the background check system. But no one gets ratings by telling the truth about how to stop mass killers … so they don’t report that 38 states submit less than 80 percent of their felony convictions to the system, leaving more than 7 million felony convictions in the dark.

They don’t tell you the truth. Instead, the only thing the average American has heard about background checks is the absolute fallacy that what we need is more. The system is only as good as the records within it … and the records only get submitted if the politicians demand it.

What do the Oregon killer, the WDBJ killer, the Charleston church killer, the Santa Barbara killer, the Maryland mall killer, the L.A. airport killer, the D.C. Navy Yard killer, the Aurora movie theater killer, the Tucson killer, the Virginia Tech killer and both Fort Hood killers have in common? Every single one of them passed a background check.

If you cast a net and the fish swim through the holes, you don’t need a bigger net. You need tighter holes. But when it comes to a background check system that’s missing the names of millions of prohibited people … the politicians don’t want to fix it.

The best-kept secret is that the National Instant Check System wouldn’t exist at all if it weren’t for the NRA. It’s true. Back in the ’90s, President Clinton forced passage of a mandatory waiting period on every handgun purchase in America. Not a background check. A wait.

But NRA said as soon as the technology was available, their wait had to be replaced by an instant background check, done by the dealer, at the point of sale. NRA supported it, NRA got the votes and NRA got it passed.

We demanded an honest system that was supposed to make sure good people can purchase firearms as quickly as possible. A system that catches violent felons, the adjudicated mentally incompetent and dangerous, and every other prohibited person right at the point of sale … where they would be prosecuted for a federal felony. But they aren’t! What has happened instead is one of the greatest failures in the history of American leadership.

In 2010, roughly 80,000 prohibited people committed a felony by trying to buy a gun. Just 44 were prosecuted for it. Does that sound like a good number to anybody?

So when you hear politicians who won’t fix the broken system talk about expanding it, don’t buy it. Demand what works. Put armed security in every school. Fix the broken mental health system. Enforce the federal gun laws against every criminal thug on the street. Prosecute dangerous people when they show up to buy a gun. And for God’s sake … put every prohibited person into the system.

That’s what common-sense gun laws look like.

Obama’s final SOTU oddly silent on … guns?
Obama only mentioned guns once in the entire speech, and it wasn’t even a full sentence:
And I’ll keep pushing for progress on the work that still needs doing. Fixing a broken immigration system. Protecting our kids from gun violence. Equal pay for equal work, paid leave, raising the minimum wage. All these things still matter to hardworking families; they are still the right thing to do; and I will not let up until they get done.
That’s it — that was the only mention of guns in the entire speech. Obama made no mention of crime at all. He only made one mention of “murder,” and that was in reference to Pope Francis and his remarks to Congress about terrorism. In fact, Obama didn’t even point out the empty chair next to the First Lady.

Could it be he finally realized every time he mentions gun control, gun sales surge. He is know world wide as the greatest gun salesman ever. Thoughts?

Administrivia – My KVMR commentary, to be broadcast tonight and addended transcript posted here as usual, is about the SoU and titled ‘Swansong from an Alternate Universe’. I invite your relevant comments under that post. Given our readership’s enthusiasm to expand on the President’s speech, I have posted the naked title for your early convenience 😉

Bill Tozer tha site with facial expressions during the SOTU was too funny. I noticed the expressions on the military faces made me think they were ill. The speech made me feel the same because it was so opposite of what has been going on. The President was claiming his “change” for America was unification….but what we’ve seen is totally opposite…the destruction of America from divisional war within. President Teddy Roosevelt stated the basics of a strong, unified America that made sense.
“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile…We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
