In service of the massive ‘gun violence’ diversion revived and orchestrated by Obama to bolster Democrats’ hopes for November, we here in Nevada County have decided to suddenly observe the 15th anniversary of a local tragedy in which an insane resident went on a rampage and killed three of our neighbors.  Keenly aware that such dire happenings should not be wasted, one of our state’s congressional worthies invited the parents of a victim of the 10jan01 shootings to attend the president’s State of the Union speech.  The 12jan16 gun control extravaganza in the House chambers promises to be a doozy to highlight and advance one of our more prominent National Lies – ‘gun violence is out of control and growing because too many people have guns and there are not enough gun laws on the books’.  The graphic below sheds some light on the matter.

GunViolenceLie

In these pages we have also parsed the 32K+ annual gun deaths record for our readers (e.g. most recently here). But that makes no never mind to leviathan’s central planners whose current worry is that their chosen champion Hellfire Hillary may blow a tire on the way to her nomination.  The latest smoking gun to emerge is incontestable evidence that she intentionally subverted the nation’s security in how she and her instructed subordinates treated classified emails.  This is a curtain behind which no liberal invites a peek, and behind which we presume Director Comely and his investigative team are very busy sorting things out.  We await their finding.

Meanwhile back home today’s (9jan16) Union dutifully devoted its issue to an in depth recounting of the 2001 tragedy, and also honoring the anti-gun work of the Wilcox couple whose daughter Laura was one of those murdered by the mad shooter. I venture it’s safe to say that the 15th anniversary of pretty much any event is not one of those significant milestones that we normally observe.  So the Union’s extraordinary effort, in devoting its front page and even more real estate in its op-ed section to the shootings, also says/confirms its support of the administration and their war on the Second Amendment.  The Wilcoxes’ political invitation to the SoU extravaganza is definitely a noteworthy local news item, but a newspaper more supportive of gun rights could easily have done their journalistic duty with a less lavish observance of this anniversary.  However, given their established political leaning, none of this should come as a surprise, nor should anyone think less of The Union since they are just exercising their First Amendment rights as they see fit.

Mr. Cross: why so cross, so down in the dumps, so cross eyed?
Austerity? You mean cuts to military veterans? Yep, that is a real pisser. The latest budget by Congress gave the Dems, the Republicans, and the President more printed money than was even asked for. Austerity? You mean taxes are just not high enough to please our teachers unions? Austerity is an emotional word. You mean giving the air quality board millions of dollars to make TV spots?
Austerity is a means to pay down your credit card after a drunken weekend of painting the town on a shopping spree. If you are going to play, you are going pay. Don’t do the crime when you don’t have a dime.
Life has never been so good, so richly rewarding. Much reason to rejoice this new year. I wish there was more money to give ya, but I am spending it this year flying to a Copenhagen Peacefest, the Worldfest, and the Wild and Scenic Coast of South America. Blame it on Rio.
Perhaps Jerry Brown can solve “our” financial squeeze, but he is dumping billions into a bullet train to Bakersfield, or is that to Taft? Priorities and all that stuff. The Hospitality House will have to make it on their own. Hurry and get your concert tickets in Boston before they sell out.

Unsupported assertion coupled with accusation. Feeble swing at political opponents. “Appeal to Authority” argument. Insincere invitation to experience intellection improvement at blatantly political gathering.
    Faux courtesy.
    Yep….staying on script.

“Jon”/Jeff, 12:39, China has, IIRC, pledged its “carbon intensity” will plateau in 30 years. If China feels its best interests are still served by that in 30 years, they may even follow through.
What the world wants is for the west to borrow trillion$ from China to give to the 3rd world to buy Chinese solar panels and coal. Paris was even more toothless than Kyoto, and I get my science from the peer reviewed literature, not internet sock puppets or propaganda films… get a couple degrees in the hard sciences and you too might be able to read the literature yourself.

Ooh, OK Greg…I guess I stirred up an angry bear in hibernation! I’ll consider the degrees next week maybe. Lots to do this weekend, one of the highlights of the year. Lots of science and experts to listen to.
    Jeff? LOL.

BTW, bid Kudos to the Union for much improved coverage of the Festival this year. Plastered all over their website and hopefully big things in print this weekend.

LOL is exactly how the Peeline would respond.
Consider the degrees for the next life.
I just read the entire 70+ pages of the Wild and Scenic program and didn’t find a single entry including any physical science at all, or any scientist beyond biology/ecology. I did find mention of the local kid who had a short accepted by the organizers, presenting his math teacher’s views from a local alternative high school… only the math teacher’s degree is sociology, not math, and the last school he staffed, in Tahoe, had its math scores in the basement. Bottom decile, unqualified to teach math at NU or BR high schools.
Perhaps “Jon” can name the scientists he expects to learn from. In the meantime, please do encourage the tourists to spend money.

Regarding world opinion on AGW, only 21% of Chinese see it as a threat. Only 29% of those in India agree. And they’re the ones driving emissions and the world’s head count.

Climate alarm is an upper middle class “progressive” western affectation. The upper classes pay lipservice but that doesn’t stop them from crisscrossing the world in private jetliners.

Sorry to once again disappoint you, oh Exalted One. Please feel free to keep on analyzing those math scores in Tahoe however.

No need to analyzing those math scores in Tahoe, “Jon”. There is no further data, and the local “Expeditionary Learning” schools are doing as expected by their detractors.
Let’s see if you send your kid to a school who hires sociology majors to teach math.

Gregory 308pm – I think crickets are again the only response to the data that you present. Fastest way to shut them up.
RobertC 1103am – RR is in its ninth year, and I am on record dunning the Republicans both in these pages and in conservative conclaves as a speaker (including the county’s Repub Central Comm). Your strong conclusions are based on weak research. But don’t mistake this for giving collectivism a pass. People of your ideology have been the greatest killers of their own citizens in the history of the world, and you accomplished it in just one century. Today only Islam has plans to match your accomplishment.
Collectivism in its various forms is an inherently unstable social order, and quickly descends into tyranny.
