[Gun control. Correspondents keep sending me data on gun homicides compiled by the WHO. For those who truly know something about ‘gun violence’ in America, these data are not new (which says a lot about our progressive counterparts). It turns out that the US doesn’t even make the top 100 countries in the per capita murders with firearms in the world. But the more remarkable stats reveal that if the murder rates in our top for-decades-Democrat-controlled cities were averaged to, say, Plano, TX, the ‘gun nut capital of the world’, then our gun homicides rate would become lower than Switzerland’s, where everyone is armed. The point I want to make here is that it is the liberal and Democrat constituents in the deepest and most gun-controlled enclaves in the country where wanton killing goes on day-in and day-out, all to the silence of the country’s leftwing leadership and their lamestream media. If ever there was an example of evil hypocrisy, a gift of silence that keeps on killing, … . Add to that the Left’s lies (e.g. "gun violence" = gun murders) in their constant effort to subvert the Second Amendment and disarm law abiding citizens, then you have the essence of how our friends across the aisle are fundamentally transforming America. Watch this short video in its entirety for a snootful on the topic. gjr]

And the “jon” has sent in the crickets.
And on a local note,, I see The Union has failed to report in a timely manner on the fire in Nevada City.
This hoof dragging wouldn’t have happened under the previous Editors watch.
It would have been on the web site before the fire dept. had the fire out.LikeLike

Sorry Gregory, there’s never been a single month in NYC that broke the avg. temp. record by over 10 degrees, much less the 14 degrees now predicted.
Its not “weather.” The locals there have a different take on climate change than you do.LikeLike

To Walt and the other Gun Nuts,
You may not like this one…very influential people and a very aggressive anti-gun campaign to come.

get the guns away from the hood rats. All those anti gun laws are working great in the gang arias… right “jon”?
Not touching the Hawaii question I put to ya’ I see. (Yup,, why people can still live there due to AGW is a tough one.)LikeLike

Walt, we kinda guessed you aren’t into the NBA.:) But tens of millions of Americans are. Steph Curry is kind of a big deal. You might hear about the man sometime. Pretty big deal to put that big gun-control campaign on national TV during the NBA season.
Oh, and Walt, I don’t think gangs typically rehearse opera performances, and if they did, I doubt the gun props would be fully loaded.LikeLike

re Jon 1118am – for the interested reader please note that the Left does not respond to real data on ‘gun violence’ that I cited in my parenthetical opening of this sandbox. Instead, they again send their crickets to respond. However, when a dedicated leftwing rag like the NYT reports on the latest gun control tactic, they start happy dancing in the street. That, dear reader, is why we are beyond the tipping point and headed for the Great Divide.

Now Walt….. credit where credit is due! After years of hinting, of implying, of whining, of complaining, and of over-emoting about guns and their intersection with middle aged, fairly law abiding white guys….jons ideological compatriots have finally after 50 years of market research failure at least identified the proper audience for the message. The dazzling urban sophisticates of Chicago, Camden, Detroit who follow the NBA may actually see and be moved by one of these Public Service Announcements.
What can you say….it’s a start.LikeLike

“Its not “weather.” The locals there have a different take on climate change than you do.”-Jon
“The sky is falling, the sky is falling!” -the locals
It’s, weather, Jon, and individual records for days mean little… when an El Niño high has happened on the 5th doesn’t mean that it’s a Warmageddon when it happens 9on the 12th.
75 is the record temp in NYC in Dec, and an el Nino only happens every other decade of so. This is not scary… its air that usually is over Mexico visiting the big Apple.LikeLike

So which team do ya’ back “jon”? chicago “pack’n” Heat? Or the N.Y. Nicks? (as in nicked by a bullet)
Then there are the b-ball fans shooting each other over a pair of shoes.
Speaking of sports, I’m looking to enter F class shooting. Maybe I can get FEDX to sponsor me.LikeLike

Gregory, who said anything about records for individual days in NYC?
For the month of December in NYC, 14 degrees above the long term historical average for a month- has NEVER happened- in the history of NYC record keeping. 13 degrees, 12 degrees and 11 degrees above the historical average have never happened either.
Apparently this topic has caught the eye of many actual scientists/climatologist who study such historical aberrations. But not yours. Oh well. I’ll follow the experts-you stick to Lord Monckton and company. Thanks.LikeLike

Hay Walt, that “NY Nicks” line was pretty clever. But not really factually accurate, with NYC being the safest of the giant US cities. I used to root for the Knicks BTW- way, way back when. GS Warriors of course now. Cannot wait to see the new SAC arena next season…did you check out the construction photos? Thousands of jobs created. Amazing place.

Oh Walt, how absolutely touching! Marry Christmas to you. Yep, we all have our quirks, some more than others. That’s what makes each and every one of us special. And thank goodness Dr. Rebane has allowed us to be right, wrong, and opinionated. Without the Good Doc, life would be less spicefull. New word? Yep, Fish is specialer. Another new word? 🙂
However Walt, there would not be a fifth in the tank if I fell off the wagon. Nay, my good man, a fifth is not in the cards. I always began with a half gallon or liter plus to take the edge off to get things started. A fifth is not a wise purchase per oz and I would have to run and get another one. Waste of gas and poor planning to say the least.
Now, with a fifth or 3 in the tank, could you bail me out on Christmas morning? It would be wonderful to meet you in person and you could drive me home to your house as your homeless Tiny Tim friend who is a wee bit under the weather and hungry. Come on Walt, it’s Christmas and my gift to you is the joy you and your family will receive by helping others on this day of Peace on Earth, Goodwin to Man…..er….others meaning me and goodwill to man means goodwill to mankind to be less sexist.. I promise to not use the toilet ( I am an outdoor kind of guy) nor even think about touching the guest only towels the Mrs. laid out in the “spare bathroom.”. Marry Christmas to all (that’s you too, Jon, jon, JS, and Big John) and to all a good night. You too Larry. No Gregory, I didn’t forget you or Paul. Marry Winter Solace Brother Ben.LikeLike

“Scientists are not immune to fads and groupthink just because they claim to speak for science. Special interests work the refs, but the refs often have an agenda as well. Winners of policy fights hate to lose — or admit they’re wrong. And people who shout about a settled consensus are often only shouting to drown out those who might disagree.”

Just wanted to point out that it is THAT time of the year again.
All of our favorite right wing bloggers and their minions will get all Jesusy and post sentimental pictures of the Savior bestowing blessing of peace and love on man. Pictures of the baby Jesus in the manger. Of Christ the Lord with arms outstretched calling all people to the love of God. They will talk about how much they love their families.
Then Christmas Day at sundown, they will go right back to being divisive, bigoted, gun toting, nativists assholes.I’m sure that due to your inclinations, it will sail right over your head, but divisiveness is what you get when you encourage “diversity”. That “we” as a nation were much less divided when we were what you hate….predominately white and Christian. Now you are well on your way to changing that….which is fine I suppose….but for the love of god at least try to understand it.

Let me be clear, much as you embrace Jesus one day a year, you cannot believe this and be a Christian.
You complain about divisiveness while clambering for more of it. It’s okay to want change Steve….have a notion about whats involved when you get it.
(And Steve……I’m really only Christian inasmuch as I was raised in the same cultural environment as most Americans of our age….rest assured if you and Meat Sweats want to mix it up rhetorically on the Lords day I’m here for you.)LikeLike

Oh Mr. Fish, there you go again grabbing all the headlines, you attention whore you. If you did not exist, Nevada City Slim would have to invent you. They rise up and check out what Fish has to say and if something juicy is found, they rise and shine.
Oh yeah, Marry Christmas Steve and Jeff and Annie the Former Fox! Love ya more with each passing day. Marry Christmas to all those who dwell within your imagination.
Now,we are all hypocrites. That is why we need a Saviour. I reckon that most Christians leave Sunday with their spirits fed and watered and by Wednesday are drier than a fire hazard. So, they have a point. Oh, if only we could live up to our moral and philosophical convictions and promises we made to ourselves, life would be…er….insufferably arrogant. Our failings keep us humble and need more than just a Sunday feeding. We are simply spiritual beings having a human experience. Alas.
Speaking of my fellow suffering human beings being hypocritical, that Obama speech writer called Trump’s comment about Hillary being slounged by Obama in 2008 as “Gross!” Yep, gross. They are better Yiddish words I would have used. 🙂

Here is a Christmas present for our AGW children.
http://dailycaller.com/2015/12/23/study-global-warming-will-be-a-mass-christmas-tree-killer-by-2100/
” A study out of the University of Delaware shows that Christmas trees will be an endangered species in the Southwest section of the U.S. within the next hundred years, but one noted climatologist says the study is unnecessarily hyperbolic.
The study, published in the journal of Nature Climate Change, issues a dire warning to public policy makers and environmentalists: If global warming is not scaled back soon, then we should expect to see the death of 72 percent of needleleaf evergreens in the Southwest by 2050, with that number increasing to 100 percent by 2100.”LikeLike

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the hilarity.
I guess I am too ‘Jesusy’ all year long. And gun toting. Well – gee – we are moving and everything has to be toted. And bigoted, according to the left-wingers. Although when I leave Jesus and become bigoted is not clear. Midnight?
Only 5″ inches of snow today and lows in the teens forecast for the next several days.

Walt at 8:52 – My goodness, no. That’s the great white north. Our friends in Post Falls already have 14″ on the ground. It’s very pretty up there, but we didn’t want to get old in an area of high snow fall. We’re in sunny south Idaho in the Treasure Valley. Basically the rural area just north west of Boise.
That’s BOIS-CEE not Boizee. I’ve seen bumper stickers explaining there is no ‘Z’ in Boise. Radio and TV announcers are mixed on how they pronounce the name.
I’ll try to talk like a native and get ID plates as soon as we can.
Most folks around here are Kali refugees. The guy at the end of the street lived on Banner Mountain until he was 5. Small world.
‘ron’ and ‘jon’ would fit in well here. There’s plenty of colleges and Boise being the capitol, lots of Gruberized lefties. The newspaper of record is a Democrat suck-up that can find absolutely no fault with jon’s fav gal.LikeLike
