[Gun control. Correspondents keep sending me data on gun homicides compiled by the WHO. For those who truly know something about ‘gun violence’ in America, these data are not new (which says a lot about our progressive counterparts). It turns out that the US doesn’t even make the top 100 countries in the per capita murders with firearms in the world. But the more remarkable stats reveal that if the murder rates in our top for-decades-Democrat-controlled cities were averaged to, say, Plano, TX, the ‘gun nut capital of the world’, then our gun homicides rate would become lower than Switzerland’s, where everyone is armed. The point I want to make here is that it is the liberal and Democrat constituents in the deepest and most gun-controlled enclaves in the country where wanton killing goes on day-in and day-out, all to the silence of the country’s leftwing leadership and their lamestream media. If ever there was an example of evil hypocrisy, a gift of silence that keeps on killing, … . Add to that the Left’s lies (e.g. "gun violence" = gun murders) in their constant effort to subvert the Second Amendment and disarm law abiding citizens, then you have the essence of how our friends across the aisle are fundamentally transforming America. Watch this short video in its entirety for a snootful on the topic. gjr]

Marin will buy in big on the new cultivation plan as will Sonoma, Marin, Humbolt and Trinity Counties as well as Santa Cruz and likely Placer County. NC will also buy in because it would be crazy to ignore such an economic boom.LikeLike

Do you honestly believe Trump can win in the General Election?LikeLike

Also Bill remember what happened when Goldwater won the nomination. He didn’t get the support of the mainstream Repubs and went down to overwhelming defeat. By the way I was Goldwater ground team member in those days. Oh the foolishness of my youth.

Gee Paul your hopes are not reflected in the real world. While people are ok with personal medical grows there is little support for large commercial grows. There will only be 2 stores in Marin. The facts are that no municipal entity in the Country has found pot to be a net benefit to the budget. Hell, even the Newsom report said do not expect any benefit to the States general fund. Nevada County is not and will not go commercial. Measure S was essentially a commercial proposal, how did that go for you all? Home owners care about their property values and carpet bagging pot dealers get no love from parents and property owners. Ya sure lets all go butane hash oil production even though its now a felony to do it in residential areas thanks to the Gov. who like the senior Senator are against full commercial recreational legalization. Keep talking amongst yourselves. It makes it easier for the people who care about property values and kids. 😉

Paul, I think Trump can win the general with Cruz as his running mate. Sure, it’s a stretch as he hasn’t come even close to 50% within the Republician Party yet. A lot could happen and a lot of time until next September, crunch time. And what both front runners need down the stretch is an unexpected event or series of events to change the Big Momentum. A crash like in the last legs of 2008, or another domestic ISIS mass murder that just recently blew BLM to the back of the line.
Donald has is finger on the pulse of the average joe. If Hillary runs as Obama’s 3rd term, she is out of touch and it will show no matter how much confetti is dropped from the convention. If Hillary remains to be viewed as untrustworthy, in bed with Wall Street, and a obscene political opportunist, then it might be a real horse race. Ironically, the passion of what Occupy Wall Street had has now shifted to the grassroots right.
If Hillary is seen as corrupt and the standard bearer of the old school party corruption, then Trump will win…..if…and there are a lot ifs.
Look the Dems have put all their eggs in one basket. Nobody is on the bench. That is a dangerous position to be in with a FBI investigation over her head right now. Hillary ain’t going to spend a millisecond in jail, but even an admonishment or potential felonies reduced to a wrist slap, that alone will reinforce the perception of her being a privileged old school corrupt politician.
But, tossing all the ifs aside, Trump could win the general on his own, without any help from the left or far left. Did anyone expect Trump to be stil around this long or even Nov. 1st? No one. Time will tell.
Cruz is the most intelligent man on the stage (and “dangerous”), Trump the most intuitive. Both are hated by MSM and the Dems, so they must be hitting right cord.LikeLike

Cruz and Trump are also hated by the Republican establishment. Meangful observation though Bill. We’ll see how the horse race develop. they are just out of the gate so there’s lots of time in the race.LikeLike

Does any of this really matter William?
Whether Trump wins the nomination or even the race is immaterial at this point. He has served admirably simply in derailing the Bush coronation. If he exposes the flaws in Marco Rubio – “Boy President” and shatters his dreams as well he will have been the best thing to happen to the US in 50 years! I (and I think we’re in agreement) am looking forward to Madame President spending eight years in misery…..gonna suck in general when the 8 trillion in “free” money isn’t available to fritter away like Sugar Frosted Barry O’s had but I sure we will emerge a more sober and determined nation after the democrats follow the remnants of the republicans into the dustbin of history!LikeLike

Guns topping Christmas lists thanks to terrorism concerns, fear over restrictions
The convergence of fears over terrorism, a perceived threat of gun laws being changed and the Christmas holiday have sent gun sales soaring in what is already the busiest month of the year for firearm purchases.
Guns are at the top of many Christmas lists, especially if November is any indication.
Last month, the FBI ran more than 2.2 million firearm background checks on potential buyers, a 24 percent increase from November 2014. On Black Friday, a record 185,345 background checks were processed by the FBI.

Property values are booming in Nevada County with parcels over 10 acres. Talk to any real estate agent and they will verify that. Cultivation is by far the highest income source in Nevada County. Also take a little time and talk to school administrators on their opinion as to how many young families are supported by cultivation. You may not like it but it’s happening and now that cultivation for profit with strict environmental and water regulations is law there are no justifiable reasons for the Supes to hinder this legal enterprise. The County would be crazy to do so.
It would be completely irresponsible not to study the economic benefits of cultivation to our rural County.LikeLike

On gun control the liberal mind rises to illustrate its deficiencies in logic and critical thinking. Among the current hysterias that it promotes across the land is their so-called crisis in ‘gun violence’. As ever, they zig when a zag is called for. A reader points to a telling graphic on US homicide rates over the last century plus.
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/12/a-historical-perspective-on-homicide.php
PaulE 920pm – Isn’t it time that the RMJ promoters send someone besides their crickets to respond to the economic portent that the small growers will no longer make such profits when the legalized big growers get into business? As always, the progressive mind thinks that all economic factors are disconnected and policies in one area do not affect other areas – e.g. tax policy has no effect on business decisions.LikeLike
-
George
Does that mean that small growers and cottage agriculture should be prevented from competing in a free market by over jealous local governments? Seems contrary to everything you spout about keeping government out of our business and lives. There will be lots of markets for quality growers much like small vineyards. Why not let the marketplace make that decision?LikeLike
-
This speaks of such silliness that it needs no commentary.
http://www.mrctv.org/blog/videostudents-sign-petition-boycott-racist-song-white-christmas
No one is punching back against such silliness until now. No one is punching back during the last budget fiasco. Nobody is leaving the opponents of sheer common sense with a bloody nose.
Nobody pushed back against Debbi, the DNC, or corruption in the DNC machine. Remember, Debbi was the National Co-Chair of Hillary’s 2008 presidential campaign. The breech of security that came down on Bernie’s head was caused solely by a 3rd party firm that the DNC hired. The firewall was down for a couple of hours, yet Bernie had to apologize. Nobody is leaving bloody noses, yet they decry the game is rigged.
Opps, the Mall of America has obtained a restraining order against the upcoming BLM protest in MI. And filed a lawsuit to boot.
Opps, Trump is out there throwing punches back. Sometimes he is throwing the first punch. I just look at the scandalous budget deal that gave Obama AND the Dem legislatures more than they even asked for. Yes, it probably was a calculated political decision to avoid another shutdown which always makes the Republicans look like a circular firing squad. No rocking the boat.
But it is time to punch back hard and bloody a bunch of noses. Punch back against inept politicians, against liberal elitists who have told me for years what I think is wrong what I say is wrong, what I eat, drive, and even how I wave the flag is wrong.
So, I am stuck with Trump. It’s time for common sense. It’s time for me to get off my back after being pummeled by the left wing for years and go bloody some noses. I have no other vehicle to take on all this silly, dangerous, arrogant, and totally divisive misguided dictates coming down on my head except The Donald. The Donald, of all people, is my vehicle for taking the libs and the cancerous growth of Big Brother to the woodshed.
I don’t want a little revenge, I want them first to be taken to the woodshed and then put in the corner of the class with their noses to the wall wearing their well deserved dunce hats. If not Trump, then who? Trump is a pragmatic man so there is plenty of room for compromise and negotiations, Again, if not Trump, then who? I once said I am going to ride this bull into the ground. Laying in the dust has been my starting point anyway, so what do I have to lose?LikeLike

PaulE 948am – It never ceases to wonder, how in hell do you attribute my ‘spouting’ anything about keeping the small grower out of the MJ business if the county deems it to be legal. It appears you are missing the nuance of doing an economic analysis of the viability of such small growers in competition with the big guys who will definitely become major RMJ suppliers in the state. My assessment that the big guys will essentially eliminate the economic contribution of the small guys stands on its own legs and says nothing about prohibiting the small guys from competing. I believe that an economic analysis will prove that thesis, and am much in favor of such analyses; always have been. How come you guys are never able to parse such clearly stated points when in debate?

PaulE 1157am – I will indeed under the same stipulations I would have supported it last time – i.e. as long as the nuisance and crime factors are properly handled. As I’ve said (and you seem to have forgotten) many times in these pages, I believe legalization will knock out the small producers assuming that taxation and regulation are kept at a sane level that don’t invite a black market. DonB and I have a respectful disagreement on MJ legalization, and we both will have more to say about that as the CA legalization drive proceeds.

Last November Nevada County voted to oppose Measure S which was a flawed proposition in many ways. That has nothing to do with the future decision to whether NC will support cultivation under the new State laws that will take effect next year.LikeLike
-
Measure S was a commercial proposition, unlimited grows in commercial zoned parcels, commercial distribution and so on. The entire County has dispensary bans now and there is little likelihood there will be any change. Medical is now defined for patients and with that settled I fully expect Nevada County like most of the state will structure to support true patients and NOT profiteers. There is Zero net societal benefit from commercial weed.

I haven’t followed the medical marijuana ebb and flow at all.
Just exactly why wouldn’t you sell marijuana, in cigarette or some other form, though a drugstore via a prescription? Why is there such a thing as a dispensary? There’s an entire apparatus in place to deal with opioids, etc. so just add this to the list.LikeLike
-
Paul, as I have said for years and Smart Approaches to Marijuana CA says now, 215 is the law of the land. The questions have always been around how to let granny have her ganja and flush out the profiteers. AB266 in its final form allows 100 sq. ft. grow for a patient, which also happens to be the base line in our existing 2349. Property owners hate large grows. Patient grow yes, commercial weed no.

So Don I assume you will be opposed to a total ban of outdoor grows in Nevada County. How about outdoor grows for dispensaries as outlined in Assembly Bill 266, Assembly Bill 243 and Senate Bill 643 that will take effect next year. There are many levels and local jurisdiction prevails.

Why don’t you ask the folks at CORR if they are fully funded for the need from the high taxes on cigs and booze? Why do we want to replicate that model for weed? 70% of America is ok with an occasional drink. A hard floor of Tabaco use is what it is. The Alcohol industry gets the bulk of profits from 10% of customers, not the wine at dinner or beer and football set. The numbers are similar for weed. With the now known science based issues especially regarding kids we can really quantify the cost to the whole community subsidizing a small percentages addictions. Home owners don’t want commercial pot grows intrusions in their neighborhoods. Look at the voting patterns in CA.

That response had nothing to do with my question Don. The law is the law and the people of California have spoken through the Democratic process that the want to have access to Medical Marijuana. What I’d like to know is what are your specific concerns about the current law-starting next month-that you feel should keep Nevada County from being providers to dispensaries under the new regulations. I’m sure you’ve read the new laws. This has nothing to do with recreational use which is another topic that will be presented to the voters next year.LikeLike

I am well aware that the main thing the League of CA cities and Sheriffs wanted and got was total local control. It does not impose anything on us. We get to stay as we are and patients get protected. We are a non-commercial County and will stay that way is my expectation, just like much of CA. So Paul what is your estimate of the percentage of recommendation holders that are really patients?
