Jon, there is a great non profit under the umbrella of United Way that works with adults to learn English. Chinese, Mexicans, all adults. It’s important that they learn enough English to help their kids with homework if nothing else.
You know, about this Refugeefrom an thang, here’s my two cents.
A) the best and brightest have connections and they left Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkey long ago on a jet plane, not a boat. These are the residents we all know and like pretty much. Upper middle class.
B). From a decades LA Times article, a story. Interview with a Chinese couple. The parents are watching their kids at MacDonalds playing around outside after eating their Happy Meals. The father said “We are Chinese, are children are American. Point is, let’s see how the next generation of Islamics (Muslims if you insist) assimilates into our culture with out freedoms and liberties. So far, all the immigrants kids I know are Americans or hip to the lingo, all except the Islamics. They are different that most immigrants in that sense. With them, it’s “birds of a feather stick together.” Too bad they aren’t like some old weirdo Mormon cult practicing the one guy 11 wives thing quietly in the desert away from everybody. No, the Islamics like the metro, but have no tolerance for the metro-sexuals.
C). Put everything on hold until a real vetting takes place.LikeLike

What you describe William is the concept of “wilderness” zones that Muslim political theorists encourage. The establishment of enclaves within the larger society. After that all they need to do is collect public benefits, breed and wait until the demographics shift in their favor. That’s what is happening in Europe right now. Feckless lefty pols desperate to try and yoke the youth from middle eastern society in an attempt to prop up their welfare state just a bit longer.
“The European values that require Europe to commit suicide are about ideology, not language, culture or nationhood. But the incoming migrants don’t share that ideology. They have their own Islamic values.
Why should 23-year-old Mohammed work for four decades so that Hans or Fritz across the way can retire at 61 and lie on a beach in Mallorca? The idea that Mohammed would ever want to do such a thing out of love for Europe was a silly fantasy that European governments fed their worried citizens.
Mohammed doesn’t share European values. Nor are they likely to take hold of him no matter how often the aging teachers, who hope he gets a job and subsidizes their retirement, try to drill them into his head. Europeans expect Mohammed to become a Swede or a German as if he were some child they had adopted from an exotic country and raised as their own, and work to subsidize their European values.
The Muslim migrants are meant to be the retirement plan for an aging Europe. They’re supposed to keep its ramshackle collection of economic policies, its welfare states and social programs rolling along.”http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/260511/death-europe-daniel-greenfield

re: vetting of refugees, I think that 18 months of intense (and more intense than ever now) scrutiny, interviews, and then more scrutiny by the UN and the USA authorities is adequate to find out of anyone is an ISIS sympathizer or fighter. Our ratio of home grown terrorists to innocents is much higher in the current general US population.

Ah yes a good laugh before lunch is a good thing, thanks again for the ongoing giggles the ‘jon’. The Daily Mail did an analysis of the recent ISIS arrests in the US. Of the 66 examined there were a number of muslims who had the magnificent background check for refugee status. They were as you would guess from places like Somalia, Yemen and Bosnia like the Boston bombers. The 2k Syrians already let in were half male. A quarter were of military service age. Almost no Christians in the mix. You and 0 have been generating a lot unintended laughs with your widows and 3 year olds crap. 😉

Tsk, tsk… from Ben:
“[I] would say I have the highest education in politics by being a lifelong activists [sic] that has participated in the democratic process at the ground level for nearly 30 decades[sic].”
Let me translate literally from the benemeryese: Ben sees himself double and has been rabble rousing for 300 years.
Ben, it’s obvious your corpora are local progressive activists and organizations… making you a progressive corporatist, needing authortarian corporatists as your foil in much the same way Ingsoc needed the Brotherhood and Emmanual Goldstein, and if you didn’t understand you might be light in the education department you wouldn’t have concocted a story you were a Nursing student with an A average when you were running for elected office yourself.
Personally, I’ve never aspired to be “an activist” but I’ve never missed voting (besides a couple minor local polls in the 30+ years ago), and not one of my votes (starting in 1972) was in a GOP primary because I’ve never been a Republican or a conservative. I’ve also rarely been shy about sharing my opinion on a political matter.
I did get one particularly bad plan killed with one letter copied to all the county supes. The commissioner (an advertiser in Pelline’s glossy pennysaver) whose pet project then got nowhere tried to provoke a fistfight outside the commission meeting where it got tabled by huffing and puffing and rushing right up to within inches of my face… several times. I just smiled, hoping he’d actually hit me on the steps of the Rude Center: a revenue opportunity for me, political oblivion for him. He did later call to apologize and capitulate and we met for coffee the next day.
This is an old back and forth… a quote and a link:
“I am not crazy but do have hatred for what the democrats and republicans have done to our state and nation through partisanship and corruption.”

Ben, you still need to work on the hate thing.
Yes, Jon, “undereducated ideologues” can be applied to some of the right wingers here, but they don’t attack me as reliably as Ben does. It also wasn’t unwitting.LikeLike

re Jon’s 1125am – Pray, how do we in 2016 admit 10K Syrian migrants recently arrived on Greek shores when by Team Obama’s own copy we are assured that they will take at least 18-24 months to vet each one as they become aware of their application to immigrate here???
And that question does not even consider what CIA Director Brennan and FBI Director Comy testified to Congress that we literally have no means of getting, let alone vetting, background data on these Muslims. The only ones claiming otherwise are the liars at 1600 Pennsylvania. It is especially instructive to watch the attempted calmatives delivered by Deputy WH Security Adviser Ben Rhodes who is their shill du jour on this issue.LikeLike

Don, pretty funny to read your figures pulled out of your rear today, but they are in the end- just awfully smelly and awfully dishonest. I’ll focus on honest data showing the overwhelming ratio of homegrown terrorists to migrant or refugee terrorists.

Imagine Paris style mayhem in LA, ‘Frisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Atlantic City and Atlanta. That would take 100 total. Given one estimate that only 2% of the refugees are IS (an estimate that could be off by a factor of 10), that would take a total of 5000 refugees to expect to do that with only refugee participants, ignoring they’d probably be focused on radicalizing folks already here. We’ve accepted nearly 2000 Syrians in the last four years and El Presidente has vowed another 9 thou or so in the next year.

“Jon” (is it the FUE himself or is it MA?) just had to go to AGW after losing yet another exchange.
Sorry Jon, but it’s a known El Nino year and the bump in temps has been expected, not from CO2 forcing in the atmosphere but excess heat from the oceans from which the effect was named by 19th century Peruvian fishermen. By the satellite datasets it is far from the biggest anomaly in even the last 30+ years, and it will come crashing back down next spring. Perhaps into a real cooling phase as it’s feeding right into a major solar minimum.

http://hockeyschtick.blogspot.com/2013/12/new-paper-predicts-another-little-ice.html
The two major satellite datasets agree with each other and the four major radiosonde datasets. The terrestrial datasets are all heavily homologised by their tenders who are all heavily vested in the computer models (often from the same groups) they expect their data to match. A formula for groupthink.LikeLike

Oh, please. In case you couldn’t figure it out for yourself, the referenced article states that this was likely an error on behalf of a graphic artist. Only a political ideologue such as yourself could translate that into Carson being “not so good on his US geography.”
Walt 18Nov15 03:55 PM
I know it’s currently popular to refer to criticism of any kind directed toward Negros (I don’t care if anybody thinks it’s politically incorrect to use this valid term of classification.) as racism but this just is not correct. Jon erroneously accused (“attacked”) Carson of a lack of the latter’s knowledge of geography but made no claim that this deficiency was due to his race.LikeLike

GeorgeB 436pm – Ah, the smugness of secure certitude. Tonight the FBI reports that it has increased to 1,000 the number of active anti-terror investigations of US-resident Syrians who are suspected of participating in various in-country ISIS activities, and tell us that so far they have foiled at least 18 plots with these efforts. The fed intelligence agencies, as I have quoted, say that they “can neither vet nor vouch” for any such Syrian (and other Mideast) refugees. With regard to background histories and documentation, there simply isn’t any there there for these people.
Now any mildly attentive reader would have known that for at least the last ten years. However, our progressives are just now being given the word, at least those who have expanded their news sources.
And the matter of selecting Christian immigrants refugees is more than humorous. Led by Team Obama (with utter contempt for their constituency) we are told that America should not discriminate on the basis of religion. However, were we to discriminate on the basis of which cohort of refugees were most in fear of losing life and limb, then a robust discriminant would include the attribute of being a Christian on one side, and everyone else on the other side. So we are told that given such a result, we should ignore it since that would favor admitting Christians over others.
Finally, when will our so-called journalists wake up to the fact that those reaching EU countries from Turkey, Greece, Malta, … are no longer refugees fleeing in fear of their lives. Once you enter any of these countries and wish to transit, you become an economic refugee since none of the countries on whose shores you landed wish to harm you. But the wits required to understand that simple notion is in short supply across western countries, and totally absent in those who march under the liberal/progressive banners.LikeLike

Thanks Bill – interesting chart.
Remember, though that just because a pol has an R after his/her/it’s name doesn’t necessarily mean what a D might. D’s tend to hew to the party line line pretty religiously, but Rs are all over the map (politically). In Idaho we find one of the 2 representatives (Raul Labrador) to be a good solid conservative, but in the southern/eastern district we have Mr Simpson who loves big govt and can’t get enough fed control over his state.
In Kali, there are many Rs that would be to the left of Dems in many parts of the US. Arnie was a good example of what can happen to Rs once elected.
He started out fine, but soon became totally enamoured with the siren call of left wing politics. Easy to understand why. You don’t have to explain anything to the voters – they have already been brain washed by the schools, unions and the news media. You don’t have to think about the consequences of your actions if you go left as the news media will cover you.
Nationally it’s different as we have seen. Jeb can push the crap locally to the yokels, but it won’t make the main event. Shrillery only had to run locally once as a New Yawker even though she had no ties to the Empire State in any way way, save the source of her funds. Nationally she looks good to the masses as they mostly have no knowledge of her other than what the fawning news media portrays her as.
There were even folks on KVMR the other day gushing over her as quite the thing to be president.
The Dems like to present themselves as a ‘big tent’ but that’s only in regards to sexual/cultural/racial self identity groups. Ideology trumps all and there are very few successful Dems that buck the system. The Rs are all over the map in terms of ideology and the central party is seemingly adrift as regards to any central tenet and long term goal. As has been pointed out by Ann Coulter and others – the Dems concerted efforts to flood the country with uneducated, poor, non-English speaking foreigners that have no means or time or intention of becoming imbued with our cultural and political heritage will be the death of our country. Just get them in here and give them the vote. Promise them goodies to the moon and give them the vote and let them know who let them in and what we have promised them.
The Republican party central is completely outwitted on this matter.
Only the conservatives have a clue as to what is happening they can only hold their heads and be witness to the downfall of our country.LikeLike

George – that’s unfair. Those yahoos don’t have the intelligence, cultural sensitivity and schooling that a left wing white boy would have. Those are just a bunch of King Tut’s bath house attendant’s progeny. They were rowing Cleo’s barge just a few centuries ago. They only live in the region and are obviously too close to the problem to have the proper perspective to know what to do. I’ll bet none of them can dunk like our pres.
