"… if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."  Sun Tzu

George Rebane

It’s now hard to figure out whether Sanders and O’Malley are Hillary’s stooges or, more generously, her shills.  Last night’s Democratic debate firmly tossed their supposed contest for the nomination into that corner.  Denting Hillary’s image was definitely out of bounds, her opponents would only gently remind viewers that Hillary voted for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, but did not touch her other scandals and faux pas – e.g. Russian reset, Benghazi, spraying classified emails across the world.  Anything that would cause people to doubt her ability to be commander-in-chief appeared to be off limits.

And as a Lucky Strike Extra, viewers were exposed to Sanders’ knowledge of the country’s economic history when he claimed that Eisenhower was a bigger socialist than he, since the top income tax tier was then at 90%.  Sanders is apparently unaware that the 90% rate was window dressing to mollify the masses, literally no one paid that rate because of the lavish exceptions, deductions, and write-offs (aka ‘loopholes) then available to the high earning cognoscenti.  But today that citation still makes good copy for the gullible gruberized.

Regarding Islamic terror and Friday’s attacks in Paris, the Democrats are having to turn themselves into lexicographic pretzels as they twist and turn when they describe and discuss their non-denominational ‘war on terror’.  The big idea to promote according to the Obama Doctrine is that ISIS and its sought after caliphate is not a reflection of Islam.  On the other hand Iran (the country that took us to the cleaners on the nuclear deal while it continues to vow our destruction and the defeat of western civilization) is not isolated from Islam, nor are the Palestinians, nor are the prominent Wahabi elements in the governments of the Arabian Peninsula, nor is the populous movement in Pakistan, nor …, but you get the idea.  All of them have the identical warm thoughts about the west, and the Great Satans – United States and Israel.  And Iran, now financially reconstituted, is the acknowledged leader of state sponsored Islamic terror around the world.

Led by the US, the west continues its la-la land lauding of Islam as the ‘religion of peace’ in the same breath pointing out that all the millions of Muslims in western countries have not strapped on explosive vests to detonate themselves in the midst of gathered infidels.  Never mind that Islamic terrorists are radicalized and constantly emerge from such 'peaceful communities' to join ISIS and/or launch their attacks in western lands.  As long as they don’t assemble en masse to blow themselves and us to bits, in the progressive mind they will forever remain the unassailable practitioners of peace and reason.  We may not even discuss, let alone join their faith to the horrific events that now punctuate our lives on every continent.

However, policies based on that tenet of denial don’t limit our insane perception of what is really happening in the world.  In the lame attempt to vilify these apparently areligious terrorists, our leaders label them and their attacks as ‘cowards’ and ‘cowardly’.  As I have been attempting to convince readers for some years now, nothing could be further from the truth.  And trying to convince our people that these men and women, be they from ISIS or Al Qaeda or Hamas or …, are cowards totally misrepresents our enemy, and misrepresents them to our own ruin.

These Islamic jihadists are anything but cowards.  They have demonstrated themselves to be the most dedicated, zealous, and self-sacrificing warriors of their deeply held faith, willing again and again to give their all for their co-faithful and Allah.  To mount an effective defense against an enemy, the first thing one must do is to correctly understand their character, worldview, and motives.  We do none of that, and continue to view them as some kind of immoral thugs and violent criminals in our midst.  Instead, we should acknowledge who and what they really are, and prepare to fight them as a global collective comprised of some of the bravest and courageous individuals the world has ever seen.  Were any of our warriors to perform such acts against a detested enemy that threatens our very way of life with such willingness and frequency, we would be handing out Medals of Honor by the bushel.

At this point I am confident that the progressive reader is again totally befuddled – Rebane calls them ‘ragheads’ in one breath, and then idolizes them as brave and selfless warriors; the man is either stupid beyond help or a cynical hypocrite.  What these light thinkers continually fail to understand is that respecting your enemy from his own perspective, and vilifying them as a sentient plague bent on destroying you and yours are orthogonal concepts, both necessary to mount an effective defense then offense against them.  Our mission against such global forces should be nothing short of what reciprocally is theirs – total annihilation of such a belief system and its inconvertible true believers.  (See also 'Of Ragheads and Racism')

Sadly, to date our civilization has been unable to muster the needed vision and courage to counter this brand of Islam.  And wallowing in that deficit, we will watch them continue to launch merciless attacks against us as we continue to change the civil structure and functioning of our society into a cowering fortress that still will not recognize the enemy that is already within our gates.

    I ask again, what gates?

RussS 1118am – I use ‘gates’ in the proxy sense that western governments continue to exhibit lame attempts to control who comes into their countries so as to give the rest of us a sense that governments are interested in and actively pursuing our security interests.
One can also ask ‘what borders?’, same answer.

    Marginally off topic!

“We need a new era of civil rights in the United States. We need to tear institutional racism, our original sin, out at the root once and for all. Let’s hope Black Lives Matter can do that. This idea doesn’t threaten white America, as many of our less enlightened local pundits clearly fear (actually what they fear is losing privilege) it frees us from our original sin and is part of the redemption that we sorely need.”

Funny to hear the secular spawn of Chicago academics speak of redemption!
    I said funny….not surprising!
And what isn’t surprising that he would praise religious huckster Jim Wallis….who has quite the history I understand…serving as the go to statist for matters “faith” related.

It does take much brain power to see that since 9/11, we have had bumbled failed attempts to strike us with targeted civilian casualties from inbound planes from Europe. Sure, that was before the Syrian cluster. There was that fine Brit known as Richard the Tennis Shoe Bomber and the Christmas surprise when the Butt Crack Bomber burned his raping tool when trying to light his butt crack bomb on an European inbound to Detroit.
Since then, the Big Worshipper of Global Rule have sent better quality foot soldiers to attack and kill as many unarmed civilians as possible. Sporting events, concert halls, whatever. Hey, isn’t that against some convention or international law or code of ethics in war? Oh yeah, it ain’t a real war. Silly me. Well, they are in Europe now. Next stop, the USofA.

Oh Walt, it’s all show. Just like the King of Jordan who flew a couple of sorties himself after a Jordanian pilot was burned alive in a cage along with some poor Japanese sap.
France will do a few air strikes, hopefully next time with more than a mere 20 bombs. They will sue for peace or something very Frenchesque. I give them 3 weeks of declining missions, tops.

Are the deaths of Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi, his Staff, and those two brave former Seals who died trying to save them just a coincidence? It’s ironic that Benghazi, that used to be Tripoli, is now Libya. The Tripolitania War (1801-05) was between America and the Islamic Pirates demanding tribute. Despite his opposition to the expense of maintaining a navy, President Jefferson dispatched an American naval squadron to Tripolitan waters.
The history regarding our Marines and “shores of Tripoli” mentioned in their song, and why they wore leather collars during those times is interesting. Kind of looks like we’re still paying tribute to the modern day pirates in that area who killed our Ambassador, his aid, and those former Seals who tried to save them. The movie 13 Hours regarding the attack should be interesting. https://www.marinersmuseum.org/sites/micro/usnavy/06/06a.htm

Thomas Jefferson knew back in 1805 the danger the Jihadist’s were. But now, we all have been yelling to all who would pay attention that perhaps they need to start paying attention to this danger. A man or woman who straps on a vest and then blows themselves and others to smithereens is a not a coward. GeorgeR has that right.
The solution to all this (hopefully before they do wipe us out) is education. We must insist if they want to be part of the planet’s peaceful folks, they must stop teaching hate in their schools. Just as the Germans thought others were inferior and in need of removal the Islamist’s do the same. Call people or countries “Satan” or pigs or whatever, diminishes humans so they can feel good about chopping off your head. Some how it will take overwhelming force or their acceptance of a relearning of the preciousness of life to stop this carnage. The Muslims have always been successful through force. We must meet them on the battlefield or become extinct.
Maybe we should have the PC crowd put on some camo’s and travel to the Mideast and see if they can talk into ISIL. I wonder what might happen?

If you took the time to read a few European media sources. you know the extent of French/Belgian radicalized terrorists lurking in that nation and surroundings, imbedded there since the mid 2000s. So I will fully support our President and Homeland Security in doing whatever they have to do to protect our citizens at home and abroad. Think the real point of contention here is this Muslim is a religion of peace crap. Islam is and always has been a tyrannical organization that is a “religion” or violence and conquest. That is Islam. That is what Islam started as well after the death of Christ, has been for a thousand years since its inception, and what it is now. Once we get beyond this fundamental starting point, a rational discussion can ensue.

“The president has admitted he does not have a strategy as it relates to ISIS. Hillary Clinton last night said that it’s not our fight,” said former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in a Sunday morning interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” ”It is our fight.”
They jumped on her refusal, like Obama, to label the efforts to fight terrorism as a war against “radical Islam,” a rhetorical choice Republicans frequently cite as a sign of weakness.
“That would be like saying we weren’t at war with Nazis, because we were afraid to offend some Germans who may have been members of the Nazi Party but weren’t violent themselves,” said Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”

Well….to drag this thread back on topic let me just deposit this into everyones punchbowl.
“The Islamic State is already referring to the Paris attacks as another “ghazva,” promising many more. The aim is to terrorize all mankind into submitting to the diktats of The Only True Faith.
This is how Sheikh Abu-Bakr Naji, the late theoretician of the Sunni version of the Islamo-apocalyptic movement, put it: “No one should feel safe without submitting, and those who refuse to submit must pay a high price. The aim of our movement is to turn the world into a series of wildernesses in which only those under our rule enjoy security.”
The sheikh’s neo-jihadi theory was explained a decade ago in his magnum opus “Governance in the Wilderness” (“Edarat al Tawwahush”). The book rejected al Qaeda’s theory of war based on the assumption that “the infidel” would succumb to Islamic rule with a few spectacular attacks such as 9/11 against New York and Washington. The sheikh further examines what he calls “the five schools of jihad” to reveal their inadequacies. According to the sheikh, in a world dominated by “Crusaders,” it is not possible to create a proper Islamic state in a single country. He cites as example the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Although a proper Islamic regime, it did not survive “infidel” attacks and opposition by Afghan elements. The Islamic movement must become global, fighting everywhere, all the time, and on all fronts. He wants neo-jihadis to create an archipelago of “wildernesses” in non-Muslim countries, especially in the West, turning them into parallel societies alongside existing ones. They do not set up formal governments that could be vulnerable to economic pressure or even military attack.
To our neo-jihadi sheikh, these parallel societies could resemble “liberated zones” set up by Marxist guerrillas in parts of Latin America in the last century. But they could also exist within cities, under the noses of the authorities, operating as secret societies with their own rules, values and enforcement mechanisms.
The “wilderness” will provide cover for operational bases. Jihad would be everywhere rather than in just one or two countries that the “infidel” could hit with superior firepower.”

But remember….this is nothing more than fleeing oppressive regimes and seeking new lives!

George, “What these light thinkers continually fail to understand is that respecting your enemy from his own perspective, and vilifying them as a sentient plague…” , I remember politically incorrect comedian Bill Maher doing exactly this after 9-11 when he disagreed with those who parroted that the 9-11 suicide terrorists were cowards – and he was roundly criticized, and his show possibly cancelled, because he disagreed with George W. Bush’s statement that the terrorists were cowards.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNMhNJDRnhU
To be fair, you should elaborate on who, in addition to progressives, you are referring to as light thinkers. Trump and his supporters come to mind based on Trump’s (and other candidates) simple-minded immigration and defense plans and supporters thereof. If you did include knee-jerk conservatives in your cohort of light thinkers, these pages would be much quieter- but not nearly as entertaining;)

There is another way to govern.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Green Party has released a statement in response to the mass murder of civilians in Beirut, Lebanon, on Nov. 12 and in Paris, France, on Nov. 13:
“We in the Green Party of the United States express our sorrow and anger over the attacks in Beirut and Paris and deep sympathy for those who lost their lives, for the injured, for their loved ones, and for the people of Lebanon and France.
We also express sympathy for civilians killed in Syria, Baghdad, Garissa University College in Kenya, the downing of a Russian airliner, and other recent massacres.
Those who enabled the attacks must be brought to justice, but we oppose reckless state-sanctioned retaliation that will result in more civilian casualties and repressive measures against people not responsible for such attacks. Those fleeing violence in their home countries must not be blamed for the actions of those willing to murder civilians.
We call for an end to terrorism and to foreign policies that motivate terrorism, including U.S. military actions and wars for oil and geopolitical control that have resulted in mass death and mayhem. A state of perpetual undeclared global war, even against the most reprehensible of foes, will draw more attacks on civilian populations.
We declare our support and sympathy for all innocent civilians who are made to suffer and die — whether by bullets, bombs, or drones, and regardless of which side in any conflict inflicts suffering and death. The Green Party counts nonviolence among its Ten Key Values. We urge international solidarity for all those working for peaceful resolution of conflict, for human rights, and for the protection of all life.”

Hey Ben Emery, why don’t you start a Green Party army of people to go over and talk some sense into the ISIL fells? You seem to think that will work. So get some stones, buy a ticket and go prove your theories as you espouse them here. I suspect you lack the action for your yapping. Prove me wrong.
