George, nothing except your occasional relating of Estonian heritage and stories- perhaps you have insight. Don’t know why Estonia in particular would be so secular.

Todd,
Funny how millions of American Muslims like my friends are peace loving, productive citizens who hold honorable values, exactly in line with documented Christian values. Or do you really believe most American Muslims secretly plotting behind our backs the whole time with their allies overseas?…LikeLike

Perhaps upi should read some history “jon”. That will make you a little smarter. You seem to be pretty closed minded. Your faith is not one of peace or trustworthiness. As I said though, you are ignorant and a useful idiot to enable comparisons between empty liberal noggins and ours that are full of knowledge and experience.LikeLike

Hey a coupe of things. Had a nice meeting today about the Supe race. Wink wink.
Democrat AG in Pennsylvania is under arrest or some such thing, for PORN! And she has the goods on others in high places, all democrats, and is releasing the info on them. What was the democrat mantra in 2004. Institutional corruption? Yep, looks like a great opportunity to get some more R’s in Pennsylvania and some surrounding states.LikeLike

Having grown up in a country divided betwen two waring factions of “Christians” I feel pretty much like a peacenik by being an atheist. The blood from a Catholic car bomb doesn’t smell any different from that a Protestant’s. I’ve never smelled the blood from a Muslim car bomb, but my guess is that it has the same stink. I think it can rightfully be called a religious stench. Every believer “knows” the better path and can kill his enemy in the name of God and be at peace then go back to dinner with his family.

My discussion was concerning Rummy and Cheney not Bush.
RE George 05 November 2015 at 02:49 PM
My justifiable reasons for going to war are pretty basic Libertarian values. Self defense and protecting our borders. Your justifications for the Iraq war are practical and basic Imperialism. The problem is that strategic resources was not the reason presented to the American people and Congress as a justification for war in Iraq. It was WMD’s which was bogus. Yes, Rumsfeld and Cheney knew, there’s not a doubt in my mind.
Here are some Libertarian basics George that I recommend you read by Ron Paul. It is by far the most articulate expression as to why the war in Iraq was wrong and our foreign police a reciepe for thdecline of the American Empire. Read this then get back to me.
“Many reasons have been given for why we fight and our youth must die in Iraq. The reasons now given for why we must continue this war bear no resemblance to the reasons given to gain the support of the American people and the United States Congress prior to our invasion in March of 2003. Before the war, we were told we faced an imminent threat to our national security from Saddam Hussein……………

The basis of Sharia law is that religious interpretation(God) is supreme law. I encourage you to watch this very enlightening program on reading terms of agreement.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HumancentiPad#PlotPlot
Plot
After Cartman mocks the other students for not having an iPad, it is revealed that he himself does not have one, much to his humiliation. Meanwhile, Kyle, who did not read the Terms and Conditions when agreeing to download his last iTunes update, is pursued by shadowy agents from Apple Inc., who wish to perform a number of intrusive actions upon him, informing him that he agreed to them when he downloaded the update…..LikeLike

I can’t resist featuring this Ron Paul quote from “Why we Fight”
“We also were told the war was necessary for national security purposes because of the threat Saddam Hussein presented, although the evidence was fabricated. Saddam Hussein’s ability to attack us was nonexistent, but the American people were ripe for alarming predictions by those who wanted this war.”LikeLike

In the dichotomous key of Christian factions. “American Christians” as you described, are not identified as a different family from Irish Catholics and Protestants. Would you care to educate us on the difference of American beliefs versus Irish beliefs of the same religion? My educated guess is that your knowledge of religion is at the first grade level. You can regurgitate the gruel, but couldn’t even begin to understand even the most basic differences between the sects.LikeLike

If jon smith doesn’t know the difference between a protestant and a catholic religion than he is beyond hope or “saving”.
The other “jon” is a Muslim as he has indicated so I am unsure if his jihad here is clear. He wants sharia law and he wants his babes in a sheet over their bodies. He is not someone Americans can trust. Maybe he is a trafficker in them as well.
There. Now go play you two.LikeLike

PaulE 713pm – my reply to your justification for war had nothing to do with a libertarian or any other ideological order. (Are you forgetting the thread of your discussion?) In my 249pm I just gave you my pragmatic answer as to why a nation justifies its going to war. And again for an uncounted number of times you draw others out with your questions, and never answer anyone else, save with yet another question. Not a good dialogue. Now that would be a accurate description of “jon”. Pretty funny.
The knife wielding idiot at the Merced campus was a Muslim! His name is , GASP! Mohammed! The same as the Prophet of peace! The AP article did its best to make every excuse why this knifer (is that a word?) was not connected to terrorism. Over and over the article claimed that he was just a misguided kid who flipped out from a normal American life. Only in the last paragraph does it say this peaceful man was a attendee at the local mosque.
Now why would a Muslim just starting college pack a KILL bag full of items and go to a college where he attacked “friends” of his? The AP says no terror connections. I say BS. He was a killer Muslim and he was taught “jihad” in the mosque. Close the place down and arrest the Iman.LikeLike

George, how can I more directly answer your question than this:
George 204pm – Paul, in your view what are the allowable reasons for going to war (I remove self-defense when attacked from the list)?
Paul E 2:49 My justifiable reasons for going to war are pretty basic Libertarian values. Self defense and protecting our borders.
For some reason you are unable to engage in a deeper dialogue on this issue citing some rules of engagement issue with my style-much like the anecdotal screed from you in times past that only applied to those opposing your views or your one sided application of derogatory language against individuals.
My input in this post began with my belief that Rummy and Cheney and unnamed others are guilty of war crimes and possibly treason for knowingly leading us to war under false pretenses. Using Ron Paul’s statement is a reasonable way to express the views of Libertarians and true Conservatives in this matter.LikeLike

PaulE 847am – Good enough – self-defense and protecting borders. Remaining questions: 1) What kinds of acts by foreign agents is the US allowed to used military force to defend itself, and where is the deployment of such force then considered legitimate? and 2) What is your definition of ‘war’ – in other words are there some minimum thresholds regarding projecting force in manpower, monies expended, duration of conflict that when exceeded will qualify such uses of force as ‘war’?
For instance the administration argues that we are not at war in the Mideast at our current levels of air campaigns and boots on the ground and special ops resulting in combat casualties. Are we at war?
Recall we conservatarians differ strongly with libertarians on foreign policy that includes the spectrum of ways America is able to project force to serve its national interests. It should be clear after all these years that I am neither a “true Conservative” nor a “Libertarian”, and have never claimed to be.
And since we have long ago given up war as a legitimate response to protect our borders, I am confused as to how the progressive views the overall purpose and stance of our military. Hope we can at least discover the modern definition of war.LikeLike
