[Time for some fresh sand. I'm concerned that we don't have a viable declared candidate in Nevada County's District #1 to oppose Ms Heidi Hall for Supervisor. Anyone have any ideas? gjr]

You are simply a “affirmative action” proselytizer Ben Emery. Nothing on hard work or merit ever spews from your lips. All those people in office must have just been handed the positions? No, they worked hard for it. Liberals always want something for free, a job, a car, a phone and now a seat on the BOS. Typical lefty mumbo-jumbo!

re MichaelK’s 144pm and ToddJ’s 149pm – I most certainly agree with BenE (132pm) that a woman could well be a “breath of fresh air” on the BoS. But then I believe, based on decades of careful observation, that women and men are intrinsically different in many (most?) aspects. However, the progressives have been conditioning us through their lamestream and union schools that men and women are no different from each other save some minor plumbing configurations. Now suddenly our resident progressive becomes a sexist? One wonders what other jobs could benefit from being performed by men or by women, or perhaps by a politically correct mix of the two.

    Michael,
Can you admit that men and women have different life experiences and perceptions? If yes, then you understand that somebody with a different perspective can bring some fresh new ideas to the table. Those ideas might stimulate a broader discussion about important issues of the day. I never claimed Heidi Hall or any other person should be elected solely based on their gender. How can women who are 51% of the national population continually be less than 25% of our elected officials both at state and federal levels? In the private sector the number of decision making positions is in the 15% range.
I think Heidi Hall’s resume speaks for itself.

    Todd and George,
The point is about a mile over your heads and if you cannot understand it by this stage in life it is most likely you will never get it.
Everything that is today was set up by those of yesterday and it is those of today that will set up tomorrow. You guys want to remain in a bygone era since all the power, benefits, and privilege were skewed in your specific demographic favor. Yesteryear wasn’t so pleasant for many and we are trying to move to a more equitable society and nation. This means white males are going to see their power, benefits, and privilege decrease so others can have equal access.
That is what makes this country so great, progressing towards justice and equality for all. Oddly enough it is what you guys oppose the most.

Glad to see that you understand there is a difference between men and women. Also that it could be a breath of fresh air for BoS. Right on cue you misrepresent a progressive point of view and position. You really do not understand progressives at all.
When it comes to politics women are no better than men but will bring the perspective of 50% of the population to the table, which is absent at the moment. White males are dramatically over represented in our state and federal governments. Why? All the laws up until the the mid 20th century were based on the perception of how white males experienced and viewed our nation and society. So all this privilege is no surprise.
In 2015, over 200 years later, our federal government still has 80% white male perception on our nation and society. Does this mean all white males agree? Not even close. No matter how much I can sympathize with women or people of color there is no possible way I can every understand what it means to live in our community, state, nation, or world as anything other than a white male. The same is true for women or people of color. They have no idea of the pressures and responsibilities that comes with that privilege.
Over my lifetime I have only been able to explain it one way that most people can understand. I have chosen not to take advantage of many of the privileges because I truly believe that is the wrong direction the human race needs to go. Here is the point, as a white male I had the privilege or luxury of having a choice in the matter. That is the difference. It is getting better for more people but it is not even close to being just and equitable, which means equal access not mandated equal portions.

A few days ago I posted a “good news” story out of Chicago. ” Armed CWP holder snuffs thug”.
Well now,,, the family of said thug have dreamed up a great excuse, and now want charges leveled on the good guy.
    http://dailycaller.com/2015/11/02/armed-robbers-family-complains-he-was-shot-too-many-times/
“The family of a Chicago man gunned down during a robbery attempt are calling for his shooter, a concealed weapon permit-holder, to be prosecuted for the shooting. The Washington Post is helping to further that effort, suggesting the failed robbery could even be a Halloween prank gone horribly wrong.
Police say Saturday night Reginald Gildersleeve walked into the small bodega Agencia Mexicana while wearing a mask and announced a holdup, whipping out what appeared to be gun. Moments later he was gunned down by an unnamed patron. It was later discovered that Gildersleeve’s gun was a paintball gun.”

re BenE’s 250pm – The topic was composition of the NC BoS, and suddenly one of our respected progressives goes off on a quota system tangent. What does being a woman (or a man) have anything to do with qualifications or even recommendations for becoming a county supervisor?
But understanding one’s socio-political ideology has everything to do with making such a decision. Ms Hall has let me and others like me know that the public policies she will instigate and back will not support the kind of community, state, and nation that to us is dear. And we do recognize that to others her ideology will seem like the perfect salve to correct all that is wrong with our society.
That aside, we should return to arguing the pros and cons of the gender quota system in politics, business, education, military, … since 51% of Americans are women, and it’s most important to incorporate this discriminant properly into all of our institutions. Perhaps only then we can broaden our view to include the actual merits required by the job.
(For those new to the quota system discussion – the Left believes that disproportionate representation in terms of gender, race, education, age, … is prima facie evidence that such representation came about through a vile and reprehensible application of discriminatory selection procedures and processes. And the state should step in to correct such distortions wherever they are found.)

HH is a lefty and Ben can’t think of any good reason to vote for her other than the fact that she is a woman.
If it was Bernie Sanders running against Sarah Palin in his district, we wouldn’t hear one single word of his clap trap about needing a woman to break up the old white boys club. Heidi Hall is a declared very qualified candidate for my Supervisor seat and as of now she has my support because I agree with her poistions on issues. If Bernie Sanders were running for Supervisor in my district he would have my vote. An unabashed progressive on the BoS would be more than a breath of fresh air.

Actually that is exactly the point. Out of around 25 major party candidates all but 2 were white and or male. That is not very good diversity. Only 1 of the 4 non white males is a serious candidate for the position and she is as slimy as politicians get. Probably why she is a serious candidate in our totally corrupted system. It also shows women can be just as bad as men in politics. Is she better than the insane train in the Republican field? Yes. Will she get my support? No way. At least with the Republican Party I know exactly what I have to fight against. The Democratic Party rhetoric vs their actions is a coin toss, therefore everything is up for questioning.

    Scott,
Too funny right back you. She will be a breath of fresh air to the old white guys club when elected. Just as a progressive would be a breath of fresh air to the old white guys club. It is you guys who have projected into the the conversation that my support for Heidi Hall is strictly due to her gender. I have never said that or would I ever say that, I vote for the candidate that represent my values most. I voted for Jill Stein in the 2012 Presidential election because she matched my values most. I support Bernie Sanders in this election over Jill Stein because he matches my values even more. If Bernie Sanders doesn’t win the primary and Jill Stein does I will be supporting her in 2016. Unlike you guys party affiliation means very little to me. I rarely vote for D’s or R’s if I have a choice because both parties represent industry over people, therefor they do not represent my values at all. My votes in my lifetime have gone towards independents, Greens, Libertarians, Peace and Freedom, and occasionally to Democrats and Republicans. I have only voted for a winning Presidential candidate once, and it is one of the only votes I have every regretted.

Scott, I vote for the candidate’s positions on issues. Heidi’s priorities are my priorities. Being a woman is a secondary benefit for the District, as the Board could use a huge dose of female perspective and sensibility. Since you are in Idaho these days, you’re not going to have to worry about her landslide victory. So let it roll. District 1 is going to be in very good hands.

Regarding HH’s education resume that so impressed Master Ben:

    Education
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick, Eagleton Institute
    M.A., Public Policy, Environment
    1987 – 1988
Columbia University – School of International and Public Affairs
    M.A., Economic and Political Development
    1983 – 1986
    Pomona College
    B.A., International Relations
    1979 – 1983

The three years at Columbia has the aroma of a PhD program terminating with an ABD (All But Dissertation aka Axed Because of Dumbness) Masters with the lateral to Rutgers being a second bite of the apple that didn’t pan out. No union card, no tenure track academic path, time to do something else. No shame in that, unlike a lower degree (like mine) there’s a lot more to it than passing classes and tests. Think apprenticeship to your professor and if you can convince them and their peers you’ve met their standards, you’re in the Guild.
One of the best professors I had at Mudd almost had an original dissertation twice only to have someone else publish first so he took the Masters and ran, another honorable exit.

Ms. Hall is trying her darnedest to get on an entry level elective job; if the local right wing can’t put up a better candidate they deserve to lose the seat to an energetic progressive climber in training. She may be dreaming of following Barbara Boxer’s path from a County Supe to the big time and unlike Boxer, Hall appears to have a three digit IQ. We could do worse… Ben could be running.

re Ms H Hall – While I agree with Messrs Gregory and fish’s assessments of Ms Hall’s educational underpinnings – they are underwhelming to say the least – we should keep in mind that the job she’s aspiring to does not require much in that department. And she definitely appears to have a 3-digit IQ, and presumably will learn while she earns as Supervisor. She most certainly will attack the position assiduously, and that for me is the scary part when we reflect on her world view.
And even more scarier is that the lady may well tread in the footsteps of that paragon of haughty hubris in the Senate – Barbara Boxer – who ranks right up there with the guy who thinks islands can tip over if too many people stand on one side of them.

My comment wasn’t to denigrate Ms Halls educational achievements. As the holder of a mere bachelors I bow before the might of her multiple credentials. I am forced to ask however just what the hell does a degree in International Relations qualify a person to do….except follow up with further study leading to a credential in Economic and Political Development…which I don’t really get either and Public Policy which I do get but don’t respect at all as it’s the quintessential politicians degree…. it sure sounds impressive but as mentioned upthread….. chair warmer.
I’m sure Ms Hall will do fine as a supervisor at least she didn’t waste her time pursuing a journalism degree.

This whole concept of a ‘woman’s’ perspective in politics is actually pretty amusing in the first place. Amazingly, the ‘woman’s’ perspective seen from the left always seems to perfectly align with what a man from the left would do. And a ‘latina’ always votes in the same way as a white male leftie would vote.
Dang near every single issue for the supervisor in Nevada County hasn’t got anything to do with the sex or race of the candidate. And the ones that might are going to go party line no matter who or what identity group the supervisor might claim to be part of.
My original statement stands. If a conservative woman was running against a white male leftie, Ben and the other lefties wouldn’t have said squat about the need for a woman on the board.
