The assumed level of perceived risk in competitive markets is constant.  When governments alleviate known risks, added unknown risks will be assumed to maintain the balance – profit demands it.

Obama’s economy continues to scoot along on its butt.  Seven years on and we have finally achieved the steady state snail-paced GDP and jobs growth rates that confirms American socialism in action.  Reported GDP and jobs growths are anemic, politically manipulated, and constantly revised downward from initial announcements.  Keep an eye on what the palpitating Fed does this December about interest rates.

World chess champion turned international political activist Gary Kasparov has written Winter is Coming.  Therein readers will find an expanded development of the history of collectivism, communism, and today’s geo-political realities that mirror what has been exposed in our commentaries.  Kasparov’s theme is the disastrous world order we are heading toward given the west’s (and specifically Obama’s) foreign policy in meeting the expansionist threats from the covey of international bad guys.  He concludes – “With world events crashing around us, the final year of Barack Obama’s presidency promises to be among the most dangerous in our history. A long dark winter will indeed be upon us unless our nation changes course.”  All this, of course, continues to be invisible to the liberal mind.  (more here)

Dr Anna Haynes’ website NC Voices has been a useful compendium of links to local online information and media sources.  I notice that she has recently rearranged the categorization and display of links to these sources.  NC Scooper and RL Crabb formerly enjoyed a ‘humor’ section of their own, but have now been buried in a potpourri of websites/blogs the nature of which eludes.  I wonder how/where they stepped out of line.  And a new ‘Climate/H2O’ category has been added that properly reflects this very leftwing website and the sentiments of its owner/publisher.  However, only True Believers are allowed their links in this section; skeptics (now called ‘Climate contrarians’) are still relegated off-page to the last righthand column.  That is where RR finds itself included with websites and blogs which have long been abandoned or unused.  On the other hand, the most prominent top lefthand and first category of blogs continues to be labeled ‘JeffP’, and belongs to none other than Mr Jeff Pelline.  Most readers will agree that it is most appropriate and appreciated that RR finds itself bookended from that progressive propagandist and his purple pillar of social justice, morality, and correct thought.

[29oct15 update]  Now that he has been cut down a mite by the mild-mannered medico, did anyone else see the future of a more mellow and measured Trump?  What effect will that have on the Republican base as the man, now having cartooned his name into every household, begins to roll out substantive policies and plans on foreign policy, illegal aliens, economic growth, trade, tax reform, …?  I believe he has the brains to assemble a respected brain trust that will generate a political work product which will quickly gain traction with a large segment of voters.  The real question is ‘given the persona he has ingrained in us, can he believably reinvent himself as one who can win and execute his newly minted plans for the country?’.

RR has maintained for years that debt service to budget ratio (NOT the oft quoted debt to budget or GDP ratio) is the metric that will impact America’s QoL.  Finally, the pundits are beginning to recognize that and show concern about the inevitable rise in interest rates.  This rise will blow the federal budgets into unknown territory as debt service on $18T+ soars from its current pittance.  But to get the economy out of its Obamanomics doldrums, banks have to start loaning money to individuals and businesses at much higher rates.  Right now it doesn’t make much sense to risk loaning money at these low rates; everyone is waiting for the return of real (risk compensating) interest rates to loosen the flood of money into the economy.  So now you see what makes up the rock and the hard place when you mismanage the economy for years.  Thank you Democrats and Team Obama.

An elected politician’s accomplishments are still measured by the ‘significant legislation’ that he has been able to get passed.  According to Rebane Doctrine that criterion is simply unmitigated bullshit, especially today when government overreach extends into every sector of the economy and private life.  I fervently hope that we will someday be smart enough to also laud politicians who have spent their political capital fighting and holding back bad bills about to become law, and repealing the putrid legislation already on the books.  Increasing the stack of US Code and new regulations should not be the only measure of a successful politician.

[30oct15 update]  The Donald's first campaign ad (here) is a clever amalgam of our (un)military anthems.  H/T to reader.

[31oct15 update]  Dr Haynes' NC Voices appears to have stabilized its new format.  I'm happy to see that now my friend RL 'Bob' Crabb's blog has been awarded its own real estate labeled V.I. (Village Idiot?) and located right under the site's prime spot.  And under Bob's new plot we have the new home for the perennially piquing NC Scooper.  And in this recent reshuffle and face lifting, I am happy to report that lesser lights like RR are still tolerated and are allowed to ride along in what charitably can be called the website's caboose (for which we are grateful).  So all is again well with world, and as our German friends would say, 'Alles ist wieder in Ordnung'.

Couldn’t find crabman or your link, think it was meant to be that way. Not sure what sin RL Crab committed but in your case I think they are feeling the conversation is being driven in directions they do not want.
We had a full house at the Republican debate watching party at Alta Sierra Pizza. Thanks AS Pizza and their great crew! The debate looser was CNBC.

donb 809pm – You are right Mr Bessee, the Scooper and Crabb links were there under ‘General’, and now they have been reassigned. Crabb is under ‘TU Opinion …’??? and Scooper has been promoted to a slot under the FUE. Perhaps more moves are planned in the future.
Great debate tonight. Yes, CNBC wound up with much egg on its face – the moderators were crass amateurs properly brought to heel by Sen Cruz and reinforced by all others. In sum, if offered a choice of blindly throwing a dart at any of the Repubs vs Mrs Clinton, just hand me the dart. Can’t believe that the Dems even called their event a ‘debate’. However, there are still the gruberized out there …

I’m listed as “v.i.” for some reason unknown to me. I’m sure some wise ass will come up with an explanation, but in the mean time, only Ms. Haynes knows for sure…

Which of the Republican candidate even mentions the concept of “Non-profit Service Corporation” George’s rebranding of “let’s make sure the for profits can get a bigger share of your taxes?” Who decides which for profit become the owner of which parts of the government, and what’s to keep lobbyists from running wild in the scramble for such lucrative slots, if the legislature is the decider?
Locally Waste Management is slowly but surely forcing consumers to do more and more of the work of sorting recyclables, so that WM is more profitable, and consumers become unpaid slaves in yet one more instance of Repubby rule.

Morning Keach…..requiring the rabble to perform more unpaid labor for Waste Management is almost certainly driven by a change in some local ordinance. You might want to “Dig Deeper” as a local notable gadfly is fond of saying.

DouglasKV 928am – I’m afraid I am the sole owner of the Non-Profit Service Corporation idea. No one has yet to think worth a second look the best I can tell. The NPSCs would not “own” any part of the government, and the ownership of any NPSC by one or more for-profit companies would be approved by the level of government having taxing jurisdiction in the NPSC area of operations. In short, the appropriate level of government (municipal, county, state, federal) would be the final arbiter of any NPSC proposal brought to it by the for-profit(s). Hope this helps.

Regarding Keach performing unpaid labor sorting his trash, Bravo!
Keach is complaining about living under “Repubby rule” with the state being as Democratic as any state could be, and a Democratic President. Keach, your problem is obvious…

The FUE is losing it a’gin in response to GR’s mention of Ahnna Haynes.
First, I think George will attest to the fact I am not a “follower” of his, I’m here because of Rebane’s solid support of freedom of speech, unlike Pelline who, in the end, made it intolerable for folks who don’t agree with Jeff Pelline to post there. I regularly give George a modicum of grief when I disagree with him, which is often.
Second, Anna Haynes, who Pelline once nominated to be his climate science authority in Nevada County, has no background in the physical sciences whatsoever and, when asked, could not define “temperature” beyond ‘it’s the numbers on a thermometer’. She has stated she cannot remember ever having taken a class in physics. The “Sad Case” thread some time ago should be read by anyone wishing to calibrate A.Haynes.
The question, Jeff, isn’t which PhD is “smarter”, it’s that an MD, a JD, an Ed.D. or a Phd geneticist sans any real chemistry of physics really doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the application of the scientific method to the physical sciences. Furthermore, if you took chemistry or physics at a college like Cal Berkeley and you weren’t a math, chemistry, physics or engineering major, you probably took the “lite” versions of those classes so you didn’t have to master subjects like multivariable calculus or differential equations needed to study and understand those subjects.
The good Doctors Newsom and the plethora of lawyers and others who have written The Union regarding AGW have no clue regarding the physical sciences, partially because they never studied it, and that includes a number who, quite by accident, happened to choose the correct side purely because of the politics of the activists pushing draconian action.
I’m afraid study of the content free subjects of rhetoric and journalism and the publishing of a glossy pennysaver have left Jeff unable to distinguish scheisse from Shinola.

re Gregory’s 238pm – Interesting report on the FUE which I also got from our designated reader this morning. And I want to expand on Gregory’s ‘follower’ comment about which he is correct.
Here on RR I seek no followers ideologically or otherwise. And I consider that the only following that happens in these pages is the following of discussions and debates, some of which I introduce and give my views on, and others which various readers contribute. Most know that my ideology is not one for ‘everyman’, and it is disclosed here as a record for my family and friends, and for other readers who may find the viewpoints of interest and, perhaps, worthy of a profitable critique from which we both benefit.
Nothing much can be added about the FUE who IMHO is a sorry excuse for whatever he attempts. And therefore the best I can tell, serves only as a discriminant delineating ‘this is not that’ between our two worldviews and value systems.

A note to Jeff Pelline who has posted fresh scheisse aimed at me… sorry Jeff, there is no “engineering calculus” course at UC Berkeley for you to have taken, and I’ve a note from a Stanford math professor from a week ago stating his department considers calculus of one variable to be a remedial level at best.
The real calculus starts with multivariable, linear and diffyQ’s and virtually all math, physics, chem and engineering majors take them all. One class (1st semester frosh level) let you look in the door but sadly, didn’t open your mind or give you the tools required for a science education.

Don, to answer you question, there are indeed other kinds of posts from the Wailing Wall. Like a substance abuser, one’s destructive behavior is interpreted now and then on occasion by brief periods of soberity. Those are the cherished silent or calm moments when one acts like a different, kinder, gentler fellow. But those interruptions of one’s substance abuse are brief and short lived. Then back to “normal”.
All that to say the Tiny Guy is just being his normal Little Me self, not the rare but appreciated Big Me. In an odd way, I find the FUE bizarre scratching and clawing comfortable. Not enjoyable, just comfortable. Comfortable because it is so familiar.
