[Leaving the 4oct15 sandbox to complete the debate on rampant racism in Nevada County and on RR, we open a fresh one to permit untrammeled consideration of how the Republicans are faring in their selection of a new Speaker against the background of Hillary's Benghazi and email scandals, and the lamestream's coverage of the whole mess.  gjr]

fish 1205pm – Interesting to watch this thread. I do believe that you may be too hopeful about expecting Obamacare “to collapse of its own weight soon enough”. Never underestimate the power of leviathan to raise taxes to pay for any and all of its foolish programs – there is no limit to their ability to confiscate your wages or wealth. And listening to our progressive brethren here, you can tell that they condone such confiscatory taxation ‘for the common good’ as they see it. Recall what the USSR did, and what the EU countries are going through right now after discovering that their socialized medicine programs are unsustainable (higher taxes, reduction of services and still the healthcare percent of GDP keeps increasing).

Even by the usual standards of incompetence from the federal government this law is bad. This may be the worst law ever enacted.

So someone wants Eskaton to go union.(SEIU) I guess that person is sitting on a pretty good retirement account. Otherwise they will be singing a new tune when the new bill comes in.
Union will mean the cost will get passed down to the tenants. I’m pretty sure not everyone will like the price hike.

Jim Firth commented today on an article posted to Jeff Pelline’s Sierra Foothill’s report with the headline, “How is it they don’t act” on guns? As I have been banned from comment on Pelline’s blog I will comment here. First, to establish context, the text of Firth’s comment.

I have to share these ideas from a reader of the Guardian,
How about we treat every young man who wants to buy a gun like every woman who wants to get an abortion -?~ mandatory 48-hr waiting period, ?~ parental permission, ?~ a note from his doctor proving he understands what he’s about to do, ?~ a video he has to watch about the effects of gun violence…
Let’s close down all but one gun shop in every state and make him travel hundreds of miles, take time off work, and stay overnight in a strange town to get a gun. Make him walk through a gauntlet of people holding photos of loved ones who were shot to death, people who call him a murderer and beg him not to buy a gun.
It makes more sense to do this with young men and guns than with women and health care, right? I mean, no woman getting an abortion has killed a room full of people in seconds, right?

All of these comparisons are false and/or misleading.
Many (most?) states already require mandatory waiting periods between the time firearms are purchased and may be delivered.
Many (most?) states prohibit sales of firearms to minors and they may use firearms only under the supervision of a parent or a person designated by a parent. Some require training which ensures an understanding of guns’ potentials and that training probably includes videos.
There are certainly more than fifty abortion clinics in the nation and abortions are also performed in hospitals and doctor’s offices. There are, none the less, locations where a young woman would have to travel to obtain an abortion but it is interesting that most of these are in the nation’s heartland where the term “family values” still has meaning and the demand for abortions is correspondingly low.
All are free to organize such gauntlets. It seems the strength of that conviction is lacking among the gun control faction, however. Perhaps that is because they know that very few gun owners are going to kill people.
Finally, it probably is true that no woman getting an abortion has killed a room full of people but every one of them have prevented or terminated a human life.

Re MichaelK’s 136pm – there are about 1,800 abortion clinics in the US, and if the woman has an emergency or health related requirement for an abortion, they may be performed in almost all hospitals.

Firth is SOOO ill informed. Ca.,,, 15 day waiting period to acquire ANY firearm. ( VARY few exceptions to that law)
I can’t go to Nev. or Oregon to buy a gun, without Ca. rules applied.(legally)
This “waiting period” has been deemed “Unconstitutional”. But the courts are letting the state appeal, and the state is dragging it’s feet as long as possible.
Someone should ask Firth (or any anti gun person) if they would like their doctors to turn over their medical records to the government. ” there oughta be a LAW!!”
You know,, all that “private info”?? Then what else can the “G” man look for and “deem” someone “unfit” to do?(or own) Drive a car maybe?
Yes.. Let’s let the government make those decisions. Watch how fast the tune changes.
Then they might tell you just what activities you can or can’t do.( Gov. pays for your health care… Remember?)
Gotta love that attitude that ” It’s OK,, those laws won’t apply to me”.

The measure was pushed by Democrats, whose candidates and causes typically benefit from higher turnout elections.
Assembly Bill 1461, by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, will require the state to register adults to vote when they get or renew a driver’s license, unless they opt out. It will make California only the second state, after Oregon, to proactively register people to vote unless they decline.”

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.
We should go back to the future and go back to what worked back then. It was called “hospitalization.” Buy a cheap policy that covered hospitalization for major events and pay out of pocket for the rest….just like Obamacare, only cheaper. With high deductibles, you still pay out of pocket today, just like having no insurance, except no monthly premiums that do you no good except a free yearly physical and mammogram. Just think how affordable health care and Heath insurance would be if we went back to the future. Hospitalization is cheap, like buying term life insurance, and with all the money you save on worthless monthly premiums, you could afford the out of pocket visits without breaking the budget. Think about that, grease spots.

More news about the Republican’s shameful Benghazi investigation:
WASHINGTON, Oct 10 (Reuters) – A former investigator for the House of Representatives Select Committee on Benghazi is accusing the Republican-led panel of targeting Democrat Hillary Clinton to scupper her presidential bid, the New York Times and CNN reported on Saturday.
They said Major Bradley Podliska, an intelligence officer in the Air Force Reserve on active duty in Germany, alleged that he was fired for resisting pressure to focus his investigation into the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi on Clinton’s role.

Jon Juan: There is a whole lot on Senate and House and Justice Department committees and investigations going on. No, not to do with Benghazi, just that Benghazi has led us to now two private servers. Remember, the FOIA requests and Congressional inquiry was for two Rodham aides’ e-mails and communications (and from State around that time). plus, a couple of real pissed off judges who keep getting the runaround for well over a year and where starting to count to three.
Hillary’s second daughter Mrs. Werner was not even in the top two. Cheryl Mills revealed the existence of the private server, thus explaining why State was missing 5 months of classified communiques.
So, the Benghazi thang has turned out much more hanky panky than just Ambassor Stevens laying there dead and photos of his killers sitting on him start appearing on Twitter. Guess they stopped to take Facebook Photos on themselves on top of their trophy as they “were taking him to the hospital”.
FBI has seized 4 State Department computers. Hillary told her private server to delete all emails 30 days old AFTER State told Hillary to turn it over. Heck, when all is said and done, she will either be not charged, not guilty, or slapped with a misdemeanor.
But, I love the details of this that are in the small print. For example, the e-mail of State’s Intel on the Republic of Congo from Rodham’s office to The Clinton Foundation. Can’t believe that impoverished country could ever come up with such a lavish donation to The Foundation while Rodham paid a visit to The Foundation.. Sweeeet!

Seriously Todd, if you do believe the economy will be the number one issue (which I kind of agree with because the economy is almost always the number one issue) then your guys, barring an unforeseen recession (which I admit could happen), are friggin’ toast. Your only hope is to use derivative issues like Benghazi to attack the Democrat BECAUSE the economy is the number one issue, and McCarthy just took that away from you.
On November 8th 2016 the US will have the lowest unemployment rate since 2000, the economy will according to almost all reputable economists and financial analysts not be in recession, inflation, gasoline prices and interest rats will be low, and consumer confidence and investor portfolios will be at near record highs.

We do have an issue here, a issue about security. National security to be more specific. Lest we forget, Hillary is not indicted for nothing.
The political aspects of the four dead Americans are:
1). Rodham bobbled the 3 am call.
2). Rodham can’t handle two e-mail accounts, yet is fit to be President?
3). A whole lot of greasing the palms surrounding the Clinton Croonies for decades now. Not just a Benjazi thang.
4). As our Nation’s top diplomat, Rodham could not recognize what classified information looks like, not to mention top secret Intel. Gross incompetence to be exremely generous to her. Beyond comprehension considered her debriefing when leaving office and all State records are to left behind before walking out the door.
5). The Ragheads knew the exact steps, routes, and time Stevens would be when and where, most likely derived from hacked info between Rodham and her special advisor Sydney B, whom Obama himself refused to let Rodman hire him at State as a special assistant. Banned from government work.
6). Rodham is the perfect standard bearer of the Dem Party, yet because of her actions and decision making long long history, the American people would like to see a woman as President, but not “that woman”. Rodham I mean, not Miss Lewinsky.

Did you read my post? I agreed with you that the economy WILL be an issue; the problem for you is that it will be a strength not a weakness of Democratic nominee. Yes there are too many people ‘underemployed’, about 25 million, but your figure of 94 million out of the workforce is actually irrelevant, that number was high before the recession, and most of those are by choice. The real issue is the 24 million who are underemployed and would want and do ‘more’ work. But who do you think independent voters are going to trust to bring that number down, the people who have reduced unemployment from 13% to 6% in 7 years, or the people who gave us a 13% unemployment rate to begin with?
You better believe the economy is going to a cornerstone of the Clinton campaign (or Sanders should he be the nominee); and the message is going to be we have already done pretty well compared to the Republicans and we can do more.

They are made up of people who 1) do not need to work because they have alternative (public and/or private) sources of income, and 2) those who are looking but can’t find work. Category 1 contains the notorious one percenters but mostly welfare queens about which we may continue that line of debate about government’s destruction of productive society to produce reliable voters. There can’t be too many of the one percenters since they make up only about 3.2M of the population.
Category 2 is the real issue here as from their midst come the new systemically unemployed, and Obama’s recovery has made these by the millions.
