[There is load of bad news coming down the pike on Obamacare in 2016.  Most widely read people know the travesty that new entitlement has been, and the worst is yet to come.  Our progressive readers have excused their happy dancing in the streets about Obamacare while citing how bad our healthcare system is in the eyes of the WHO.  The siren song for all socialists is the vaunted 'nationalized single payer healthcare system' of which all the fine exemplars are said to be doing just fine in the EU.  However, that is not the case, and already in 2008 Cato published their compendium of these single payer systems in Policy Analysis #613.  And since then things have gotten considerably worse in the lands of 'free health care'.  Worth a look before we order the confetti for the next Obamacare celebration.  gjr]

    Fish,
If you look towards the Scandinavian nations and places like Germany Democratic Socialism seems to be producing the highest levels of happiness, education, health, and equality on the planet. Funny how I have a number of nations including the US 1940’s-1970’s where Democratic Socialism works and you guys have third world dictatorships to point with your libertarian fantasy world. My brother lives in one of those nations that would be considered libertarian paradises, people and children get their drinking water from muddy pot holes because there is no infrastructure. In Cambodia (Kingdom)a war despot basically forced his way into power and has become insanely wealthy selling off the nations resources to China and the highest bidder while suppressing his own people. He has set up what is going on now with mineral extraction, deforestation, and damming up the major rivers for ever changing the culture.
    http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-33702814
So you guys can take your unfettered capitalism and jam it up your rear ends and I will continue to fight to bring democracy to capitalism. If we flip it where capitalism controls democracy we get fascism and that is what rules the day in our nation today.

    George,
The gun point description is getting old.
Nobody has a gun pointing at you to pay your taxes. They might have the law on their side but that law was passed by democratically elected representatives. Far cry from a gun from all ruling other forcing you to participate in society. Oddly enough you guys seem to be fine with people of color being gunned down by authority figures. Hmmmm, a person of color being gunned down by authority and you’re ok with it but you’re expected to pay taxes for infrastructure and services and you equate it to being held at gun point. You guys are pathetic and absurd.

Scandinavian nations are going broke too Ben. A big part of the reason that they are importing the middle east…..they think they can turn the Islamic hordes into productive Scandinavians. Pity if you are a woman in Malmo these days…..middle easterners aren’t nearly as feminist as you are….great place to visit if you are into rape.
Lot to be said for the quality of the people living in a country….the United States when it had a minimalist government produced the highest standard of living in the world….if the Cambodians can’t manage that ……well I guess it sucks to be them! Maybe your brother should send the Socialist Peoples Republic a sternly worded letter with a lot of links to goodfeelz…..I’m sure that will do wonders!

Who else besides we “bad Americans” are sacrificing our blood and treasure around the world to protect and save innocent people from tyranny and slaughter? Name one country Ben who is doing even close to what we are doing all over the world? And no, Africa has no oil or treasure to gain with our efforts. Anyone you are proud of in that effort Ben?

Ben… You DO know, you go to jail for failure to pay taxes? No “gun to your head”? Really?? You must be one of those that don’t pay “your fair share”. Taxes are only for the “rich guy” to pay. I guess it’s easier to leach off others productivity, and get a check in the mail from the Gov. “Santa”.
I know you have health problems.. so do I. But I don’t get (or take) a dime from Uncle Sam.
So tell us. How does it feel to be a burden on society? It’s a feeling I’m not familiar with.

Re my “gunpoint description getting old” – With certainty I assure you that to ever forget government mandates are executed at gunpoint is not only maximally foolish, but dangerous. That is why you ‘bigger govt is better’ types are extremely scary, especially when you get into a voting booth.
Naifs like you might be interested that no less than the celebrated Alan Greenspan (as reported even by the NY Times) warned us some years ago – “Government regulation is not an alternative means of protecting the consumer. It does not build quality into goods, or accuracy into information. Its sole “contribution” is to substitute force and fear for incentive as the “protector” of the consumer. The euphemism of government press releases to the contrary notwithstanding, the basis of regulation is armed force. At the bottom of the endless pile of paper work which characterizes all regulation lies a gun …”

I feel so sorry for you guys being terrorized for so long. I have been in countries with local people not tourist guides that have to pay at gun point. If they do not get paid they either turn around and go back or try to proceed and get killed. I have also been places with 100% strict curfews otherwise you will be shot. So your victim position seem outrageous and sad to those who really have to pay at gun point.
A story from my brother on the continent of Africa. He and a new African friend were going to visit the friends village one afternoon. Some reason their ride was late and they were going to get caught out after curfew so they delayed the trip to the next morning. The next day when they arrive at the village the entire thing was in flames and everybody and ever animal was slaughtered by militia. The delayed ride saved my brothers and his friends life. Unfortunately the friends entire family and village were all killed.
So to hear you guys whine about paying taxes and comparing it to actual life and death is pathetic. You guys should be embarrassed and ashamed of yourselves.

Say that you remodel your kitchen, and don’t put in the regulated number and type of ceiling lights – you instead install the ones you like. The county inspector comes, informs you of your sin, and writes you up. You have so much time to get things remedied according to government dictates. You decide to keep the ceiling lights in your kitchen that please you. The inspector revisits, notices your recalcitrance, and cites you for the code violation.
Fast forward. The matter of your non-compliance is passed on to county counsel who brings suit against you which you choose neither to contend nor to comply to the subsequent judgment of fines, jail time, confiscation of property, or whatever the judge decides. Your continued refusal brings in the sheriff. You decide this is a hill worth defending and perhaps dying on. You arm yourself and a stand-off with the prompt arrival of the local SWAT team ensues. You wave your ‘assault rifle’ to indicate you are dead serious about defending your kitchen lights.
Since you will not permit anyone to enter your property, in due course the SWAT sniper puts a bullet through your window and kills you. Within the hour, the sheriff makes a statement of regret that things could not have been settled peaceably, giving all the why and wherefores of his attempts to do so. Bottom line is that they had to kill you since you were armed and judged to be a danger to society.
When some aspiring reporter at the news conference points out that all you wanted to do was to keep your kitchen lights, which would not have impacted anyone else, and then asks if that was enough of a reason to shoot you, the sheriff and county counsel in attendance advise the reporter in no uncertain terms that you were NOT killed for the out-of-code kitchen lights, but for violating a number of subsequent judgments, legal actions, resisting arrest, brandishing firearms with intent to commit murder and mayhem, etc. The official position is that no one in America is ever killed for bad kitchen lights, they are killed only for resisting that the lights be brought up to code.
As the news conference ends and the TV cameras and lights get packed, all the progressives in the audience dutifully and knowingly nod, and walk away with a clear understanding that social justice again ruled the day. Some may even make a reasoned statement to that effect to the beautiful blonde with the microphone.

Of course I understand the point of your 3:58pm. I think the point is that you are so confused about the meaning of freedom and the protections our Constitution provides that you equate the freedom to decide what light fixture to use in your kitchen with speech, assembly, petition, religion and due process. You are so confused about ‘rights’ that when American society through due process determines to do anything you disagree with or empower anyone you believe does not deserve the equal protection you enjoy you dress up in a funny tricorn hat and grab your gun and bible and head to the local rally to play out the fantasy that you are an ‘real’ American.

Now it’s funny that you dismiss Georges 3:58 chain of causality so cavalierly especially since “commercial speech” was thought to have been nearly equal in importance to political speech (and I assume ….assembly, petition, religion and due process) in revolutionary times. Ben Franklin certainly thought this to be the case. The ability to purchase and ultimately use a legal product would have been considered an exercise of that right. That the local bureaucracy would have deemed them “not to code” (I do concede you part of the argument if “not to code” results from legitimate safety concerns. Since that point was not explicitly made I choose to think Georges argument was from an environmental/energy consumption regulatory perspective) on a whim would have been a violation of the homeowners rights…..right up to and including the point where he took one in the head.

Actually I think Ben nailed it. George’s example was a classic example of head up the ass syndrome on the Constitution. You do not have a ‘constitutional right’ to incandescent lightbulbs, you have a constitutional right to due process.

Finally, I guess in your society we could all just decide what is a ‘homeowners right’ and where your rights infringe on others rights can be decided by who takes one in the head. Hey Steve, I bought a 4 pack of those Dairy Queen ice cream coned shaped light bulbs (at the most expensive grocery store around) for $1.99. Bought 3 of them 4-Packs. Kinda neat with their heads sticking above my hanging fixtures and sure make their presence known poking out of the sconces. Also, I painted another guest bedroom and love the color. Then I placed them swirly bulbs in the chandeliers and it changed the color of the walls. Now I am not so sure I like the soft paint color I was recently so proud of. Whatever happened to softness? What happened to my cool color scheme??
Steve ain’t lazy. Don’t see him as a drunkard either. Maybe his twin, but not Steve. Hard working and promoting stuff takes a lot of energy. I deal with products and services that sell themselves and I frankly can’t keep up. Connecting people with things that are important to them is my current vocation. Drawbavk is they are beating down the doors and I am slowing down. Glad I don’t have to fly to DC to beg or fly to NYC to meet Jon’s parents. I don’t need that kind of stress, but that is just me.

Freedom is about kitchen fixtures. The government Steve Frisch loves is one that tells you what and how you live down to that kitchen fixture. And of course they do.
Look at the results of the Angora Fire a few years ago. All those houses burned down not because the people living in them did not have a “kitchen fixture” mandated by the government. They burned because Frisch’s policies forbade them from removing pine needles around their house. Thanks Frisch. Anyway, I knew right after the fire the government would hold “conferences” on the causes and all those self important agencies would get together and BLAME not their policies, but the people living there. And it was to pass.
So out of the mess created by TRPA and the ARB and even Fire Districts, the government decided to double down on the rebuilds and future builds in California. All siding and roofs fireproof, all houses to have sprinklers. All house to have soffits. All light bulbs and fixtures to burn mercury filled bulbs. On and on.
So yes the “kitchen fixture” is the issue. Maybe a fat cat like Frisch can afford all those “rules” the government makes to deny individual’s their Constitutional rights, but the poor and elderly can’t. Look at all the homeless men and women Steve Frisch has created in just our little Nevada County. I say we name the next homeless camp after him.

This retort just shows how utterly full of crap you are when attempt to project my ‘policies’. I have done more to support forest thinning in the Sierra than you ever did as a Supervisor or as a ‘civilian.’ You are also all wet on TRPA ‘policy.’ Their policy never restricted removing pine needles or thinning around homes. It is a complete lie on your part.
But really, if you want to die on the hill protecting your right to wire your kitchen with sub-standard wiring be my guest. I’ll be the first to say, “Of course I could see Todd or George getting into an armed standoff over their blender.”

StevenF 339pm – “right to wire your kitchen with sub-standard wiring”, “an armed standoff over their blender” – wherever do you get this crap? And do you ever tire of conducting both sides of a conversation you weave out of whole cloth??
But would sure like to hear some cogent response from the Left to the point of my 358pm that expanded on my 200pm. Is there any progressive who even understands what Greenspan wrote “At the bottom of the endless pile of paper work which characterizes all regulation lies a gun …”, or is the only possible response just an endless pile of progressive pap??

Of course you think you have done something to help the forest. Your halp is burning them to the ground. My, if you were not real we would have to make you up.
Since you only moved to the County after I was off the BOS, tell us how you know anything I did? Oh, as usual, you libnuts just make it up. What a hoot.
Regrading electrical fixtures. The readers can see how dumb you are about construction. We are discussing the “fixtures” and not the wiring to get to the fixture. You don’t know the difference and that explains why you BKed your restaurant and owed a quarter million to the government. Dumb as a box of chocolates.
    Go Giants!

I moved to the County while you were on the Board of Supervisors and remember thinking at the time, “who is this idiot.” You have done nothing since then to change my initial opinion. But you do just talk right of your ass don;t you? You just say stuff without any idea whatsoever whether it is accurate or not.

Yes, I do talk talk a lot and that is because unlike you, iI have something to say. Having been elected twice I was honored to serve the people of the County. While you were not paying your taxes withheld from your employees, liened by local, state and federal government agencies, I was getting roads built and paved, buildings built and may other endeavors. When you grow up and can discuss things with grownups like me, please do. It is well known throughout the County and especially in Truckee that you are disliked immensely and ridiculed by the important folks there.

An ECO bastard who is pro tree cutting in a forest? I call bullshit. “removing of pine needles”.. Oh yaaaa.. That’s going to cut the fire danger down.
The shit storm that hit Tahoe when those folks wanted to thin trees around the lake. The ECO bastards went blind with rage. ” WE are going to SUE!!!” ( and the taxpayer foots the bill. No money out of the ECO bastards pockets)
How bout that supposed cogen plant that was to be built in the aria? Not a peep on that.More ECO bastard NIMBYism?
And with every salvage logging op some ECO loon ORG files a lawsuit to hold up the works.
Count on the same with these fires.

Yo Walt. New Hampshire Shocker! Trump pulls 40% in NH’s open primary poLl, highest rating ever. The sky is falling, call the whambulance.
Oh my, where did Brother Ben’s Traveling Salvation Show go off to? What, long time no come see?
Typical. Stomps his feet, crosses his arms real tight, calls us poopy heads and slams the door behind him. I can see why Ben says he does not like the person he becomes after kicking sand in The Sandbox.
I am so sorry Ben. I knew the playing Cowboys and Muslim thang would get your ire to unhealthy levels. That was mean. A special message just for you and you walked right into it. Took the bait hook, line, and sinker. Kind of funny seeing your justifiable anger (from your POV) rise up and overtake ya. Me bad. But I know you will forgive me because that is the compassionate thang to do and because you are one big huggable sap.

Trump’s polling continues to says a lot about the incredibly narrow base of the GOP.
And not much about the majority of America.
