George Rebane

A correspondent sent me this clipping that recently appeared in the Miller County Liberal of Colquitt, Georgia.  It is another example of progressivism run amok in America that affects much more than our national debt.  Such people are the stalwarts and core constituents of liberal politicians across our land.  Hard to garner their vote if your message is that you should become a legitimate couple and earn your own way instead of taking it from your neighbors.

CollectivistCancer

[2sep15 update]  Yet one more collectivist cancer is now rampant in the land.  The clearly fraudulent ‘Black Lives Matter’ agitation (movement?) abetted by the lamestream, has now cost hundreds of additional lives across the country this year as crime rates have soared.  Why?  Because crime has now been elevated by the administration and various leftwing municipal jurisdictions to have become politically motivated, thereby giving lawlessness an implicit level of justification that invite more scumbags – especially the black-on-black kind – to wantonly kill.

Our police across the land are justifiably convinced that civilized society, led by progressive politicians, no longer has their backs.  They have quietly started pulling back from their normal law enforcement practices as they are being regularly hauled into vindictive politically motivated judicial proceedings, or simply murdered in the streets.  To put meat on these observations, just consider a sampling of American cities in which the murder rate has sky-rocketed during the last year – Austin +90.9%, Denver +75%, Milwaukee +73.6%, St Louis +57.7%, Baltimore +55.8%.

I rented to women coming out of rehab who wanted to better themselves and have a place to take care of their kids. I learned from them that no one would rent to them. Mostly because they were coming off drug addictions and in some cases violence. They said their boyfriends or the fathers of their babies were not the best people. They also knew every single program they could get money and goods from. I rented for three years and in the end they left me with a huge cleanup and repair bill as well as non payment of rent. I learned that not everyone is willing to get off the dole.

PaulE 823am – Paul, I do believe you really do not understand, and that your question is sincere.
The illustrated clipping is an example of welfare fraud. Welfare fraud comes in two major flavors. The first is sleazebag politicians passing egregious welfare laws in the form of entitlements, subsidies, etc in order to buy votes. The second is by the public that has learned to game the byzantine system of regulations as to who qualifies for what that the few and dimwitted public servants have no chance of vetting for legitimacy. Call these legislative fraud and perjurious fraud respectively.
While all welfare is not dunned by these arguments (but they will be simplistically rebutted), the costs of welfare fraud (and they are many) to the nation go way beyond the doctored statistics that progressive bureaucracies report in the lamestream.

I believe Paul is really ready to go off on the antidotal (or anti-antedotal ) theme with a vengeance. “Why can Dr. Rebane use an antedotal story to shed light on the inner workings of a bigger issue and I can’t? It’s so unfair! What hyprocity, Dr. Rebane.”
Best explain it to Paul again or he will be circling the wagons on this theme for the next 3 days. That Paul is a pitbull when he smells injustice. ‘Spain it to him again and again, but it probably won’t answer the big “but, why?” Somewhere lostin the banter will be the topic.

Paul, these guys will always try to exaggerate a point that everyone is committing fraud in an attempt to make political hay. These guys would be orgasmic with the thought of wiping out the social safety net for the truly needy, and maybe save a few measly tax dollars. Of course there are people taking advantage of the system, but the vast majority NEED these benefit programs. Are we a Western civilized society, or is it time to back to the law of the jungle? Extreme austerity in this area would lead to the latter.

Its idiocy of this quality that makes me cherish your presence every single day….whoever you are!
60% of the federal budget is entitlement spending. Seems to me that someone who wants to maintain a “safety net” would like to see it well managed?
But I guess it’s just easier to whine about the mean old conservatives.

Jon 1017am – What eludes you (and Paul?) is that the “local yocal(sic)” piece describes a generalized instantiation of fraud that is not specific to any particular region. It is its generalized nature that makes it appropriate to post here and invite a debate on the nature, status, and merits of our national welfare system which consumes the lion’s share of our federal budget. There is no possibility of our getting a handle on the nation’s fisc without first addressing the vast domain of federal entitlements.
And it is indeed “red meat” for both of our ideological poles that is another illustration of our Great Divide. The European welfare/entitlement models are terminally ill. Every day more headlines (not in the lamestream) herald the reduction of services and the increase of fees. In the US the feds today announced that Obamacare’s projected revenues from corporations will be about half of what was celebrated when the Great Lie was launched. This is just the latest of the many lies exposed over the past years about that entitlement which will reduce the availability of healthcare and make it more expensive in yet to be counted ways.
The problem is that we cannot afford what you and yours have promised and put in place. That lesson is lost on you, and ALL of Obamacare’s financial imbroglios get blamed on conservatives as per the instructions in Saul Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals’.

It’s pathetic, disgusting….and predicted. That’s why the Founders were a little hesitant regarding the leaders of our nation receiving pay. Especially if they (the servants of the people) were in charge of how much, since the working people in the private sector provide the revenue for their welfare…uh..benefit. And as any real political historian knows those who want to get elected promise voters something for nothing. Add to this they don’t have to have Voter Identity cards to prove they’re Legitimate …so big time fraud is bound to win. Unfortunately, the private sector hard working producer is taxed to pay for all those in and out of government collecting welfare. Ah yes gov employees claim they pay taxes too, but do so from taxes collected from those on the outside. There can be a balance, but when government gets too big it eventually self destructs because it bankrupts those who pay the bills. Many years ago when a friend and I were investigating non-profits getting grant money from the gov, we were told by the Calif Attorney General that he had a stack of them on his desk to determine whether or not they were fraudulent. At that time there were approximately 30,000 new ones per year coming into existence. Everything from bugs to some rare weed that needed saving (for our benefit) in order to collect money. It was interesting and revealing what individuals will say and do for money. I feel sorry for those people who really need help. One look at the wealth our leaders at the top give themselves is enough to show me that’s where we need to change things in order to survive, but realize they’ve created a huge dependent population that will keep them in power until it collapses.

Nay, my good human, you are the one chomping at the bit. Sorry to disappoint you, but over here we all know the term Welfare Queen does not accurately reflect the typical welfare receiver anymore. It has mushroomed into more nuanced forms.

Perhaps it will do us all Justice if we got down to the nuts and bolts and be very specific and reread the letter Dr. Rebane posted. I have much to say on a few items listed, but that will come later. Just glancing at the laundry list, I see an error immediately. The letter writer stated 1,800 claims a month for being on disability due to nutting up or a bad back. Just happened to run into an old acquaintance last Friday who is on permanent disability. No, he ain’t drawing crazy money nor has a bad back. Other issues, but I digress. He is getting 1,900 clams a month, much much more that what his normal SS would pay him if he worked until retirement age and more than the $13.50 an hour (before taxes) he was making. He said he could go back to work, but screw it. He is having fun talking care on a long yellowed dusty list of honey-dos. I felt a twinge of jealousy for a brief moment.
So, let’s start with 1,900 clams a month, not 1,800, plus all the other freebies that come along with being on SSDI. It’s that tax free income that got me envious for a fleeting moment. Gross being the same as net? Yep, envious for a good 90 seconds.

The letter writer states that his 13 point welfare fraud scenario is being carried out by “millions” of people. For “millions of people” to pull off that complex scenario without detection is an exaggerated work of paranoid fiction. But its effect is pretty impressive, if this group here is representative of the far, far right.

For the record, I think any reasonable effort to discover fraud would uncover at least two million in short order of the 50-100 million receiving entitlements. It is this kind of fraud that our fraud finding politicians have been promising to reduce for at least the last 25 years.

Complex scenario my good human????? . Not at all. Easy as pie to declare single head of household and that is where the real cuts in taxes come in if you work. Qualifies most for the EIC even if they barely worked in months or years. Not complex at all. I have alternated years in the past claiming single head of household and giving the wayward Mom the other year to help her out. Totally legal. no laws says I HAVE TO file single head on household even if I qualify.
Ok, if it is just a tiny percentage of recipients that commit fraud, why do we all know of one off the top of our heads. Try this one on from a recently dearly departed:
John and Jane Doe, GV, USA:
John D got hep-c from a blood transfusion. Disability was granted but throughout his working life always worked for cash, never paid a dime into SS. Jane doctored shopped for years trying to get on SSDI, finally did Jane became a profession student for years at Sierra College and a semester at American River College. The more units she accumulated, the bigger the yearly grants. She also worked taking care of her husband and was paid by the state for in-home care services while she was rarely home. When their last boy turned 18 and left home, they immediately took in their grandchild as a foster child and added another 600 smackers a month. All this time and all through the years John and Jane never once were asked any questions nor was there ever an audit of their incomes while living for a couple decades in Section 8 housing off Dorsey. Not once. They still paid the 160 bucks or was it 135 bucks a month for rent as when they were truly broke a long time ago. Not figuring in food stamps or healthcare, just the cash from working in-home, school cash grants, foster kid money, the EIC, SSDI mula X2, and it begins to pile up. Our friendship ended when he asked me if he could stash (hid) his Harley at my place. Can’t be friends with someone whom you loose all respect for, but that is just me.
Jon, not a complex scheme at all, and John and Jane Doe are just one of a few off the top of me noodle.

    Back to Psaul are we!?
Congress and the political process deemed that if a member of the armed forces spends at least 20 years in service that he/she shall be entitled to a pension. But given the trend towards automation in all other areas of life I would certainly entertain a demobilization of a significant percentage of the soldiers, sailors, and airmen going forward as a cost savings measure.
Expect to see this very thing in the fairly near future….from both robotics and the trend towards Xe/Blackwater type forces.
The issue was less a question of the need for these programs versus the governments increasingly poor management of them. Poor melon headed jon tossed his expected and increasingly useless throwaway line……“These guys would be orgasmic with the thought of wiping out the social safety net for the truly needy, and maybe save a few measly tax dollars.” while apparently…no clearly not understanding that those “few measly dollars” run into multi-billions.
