[Wow! I take a little trip into Preconnectivity Land and the sandbox overflows – isn't Hillary's email scandal grand?  But boys and girls, let's not forget that the woman has soooo many other scandals to answer for, so concentrating all our energies unraveling her email fu@% ups will work to her benefit if the Dems and the lamestream (with a cooperating FBI and DoJ) can bundle it up and make the whole thing go away.  Trying to jump onto another scandal (take your pick) will then seem like so much witch hunting – 'well we didn't get you with the emails, now let's try Benghazi.'  My take is that we need to keep her whole ball of putrid wax in focus; compromising national security through her email shenanigans is just one reason she's not qualified for the WH.  gjr]

Oh BillT, I know I am a harsh SOB when it comes to drug dealers. But hey that’s me! LOL! With a Obama inside.
Our country is so PC and the courts so wimpass that I fear we will be overrun by felons. Even locally, the dude that conked Ms. Tassone is being sent to Hospital Heaven for a diagnosis. Three squares, pretty nurse, roof over his head. And Ms. Tassone fighting to regain her life. But the Judge was convinced by some public defender to send him for evaluation. I say both should resign! We need hanging judges!
You see I am such a hard ass that even someone diagnosed as mentally ill and who committs a crime is EVEN MORE important to lock them up. My sympathies go to Ms. Tassone, not the reprobate attacker!
And again, if you are drug dealer, death by firing squad after a quick trial and only one appeal. Adios scumbags pushing death.

Actually, let me be the first here to denounce the New Black Panther Party for protesting in this way. Since some appear to be unsupportive of the NBPP doing so I am sure they will step forward now and denounce similar behavior at Bundy ranch and speak out against carrying loaded AR-15’s into Walmart just because it is their ‘right’.

Well we already know that FEAR drives everything about you, Todd which explains your odd interpretation of reality. The situation is quite the opposite. Where do you see data that indicates a potential to be overrun by felons? Sounds like you’re talking about NYC circa 1971 or something.
No nation one earth comes remotely close to the number people we imprison. Its why even Repubs are joining the movement to LESSEN the lockup rate.

Never happen Steve, you clock puncher you. Some of us believe that the ATF (bureau of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms) should be a convience store, not a federal agency. I am one of those misfits. So, put that in your peace pipe and smoke it.
Seriously, I will toss you a bone. After some facts appeared, Bundy really was not the right person to rally the troops around. He did not have a legal leg to stand on, but who would ever give you government types the pleasure of hearing that from us local yokels. No way, Jose. Bundy was the wrong poster child IMHO. They (the Feds) should have shot his horse out from under him and turned the horse into a martyr. No one hurt except both party’s overblown pride.
BTW, just cause nobody races to denounce certain events under the sun (Black Panters, cop killings, a bad cop killiing someone in an unjustified manner, flash mobs, the entire Dem Party, etc, etc) does not mean any of us don’t condemn certain actions within our own hearts and minds. Many a link has been posted with no follow up comments. I, for one, have shaken my head instead of posting outrage on several occasions.
Well, except when it hits close to home and when your Government….er…our Government sends emergency drinking water in oil contaminated barrels to people of color dwelling peacefully among the First Nations. That really gets me contemplating putting the war paint on and do the Fire Dance with a double War Dance encore. Since our government recently did such an outrageous despicable act of ill will on purpose, I have sharpened the old tomahawk and snapped the peace pipe in two across my knee, paleface. Injun killer. Liar.
Oh, BTW, I would feel uncomfortable walking in any Wal-Mart unarmed. Have you seen what kind of White Trash frequents that place. One would have to be crazy to walk in there without an old peacemaker, a concealed Equalizer, or a nice sharpened tomahawk. Chop chop.chop, chop. Plus, one could always sell their arms to the Contras to make alittle untaxed side money. We may be crazy, but not stupid…like The EPA and the ATF, which is both.

” Since you and yours have ruled California for decades” I guess the reality of that statement would depend on how you define “rule”. Looking a list of Ca governors one discovers that prior to Jerry Brown’s current term and going back to and including Pat Brown, we had 32 years of Republicans in office and 25 years of Democrats (16 the Browns and 5 Davis.) Prior to that, going back to the turn of the 20th century there were 11 Republican and 1 Democratic governors. For the last 115 years, Democrats have only occupied the governor’s mansion for 26 years including Jerry Brown’s current stint.

I think it is the Legislature he is talking about. Having worked there in 1996 for Bernie Richter It was the only year the Assembly was run by R’s for 40 years or so.
But I do not let R Govs off the hook. There was a necessary signature on many laws and many of them have and are smothering the middle class.

I am run by fear? Sorry “Jon” not so. I said what is wrong with the system and choose to namecall and denigrate. You are simply unimportant here and do your best to be relevant but can’t.
I am talking about California’s realignment as well as the results of Prop 47. Crime is up. Maybe you should drive down to East LA or Oakland and take a walk “jon”.
Regarding incarceration. I see no evidence of R’s jumping on board the release gang. In fact, it is the opposite. Commit the crime and do the time. Do you think when you are robbing someone “jon” that you may get incarcerated? What a nutball.

As an interesting footnote, even implying that unemployed black youth might work as field hands truly is a no-no in progressives’ eyes. Why? Well hell, their slave ancestors were also field hands, and recommending a return to the fields is equivalent to advocating the resumption of US slavery among the light thinkers. However, I am exempt from that criticism because I too was a field hand in my youth, and moreover, am a descendant of slave field hands who for centuries worked the Estonian plantations of our Russian and German masters. According to progressivist standards, likes can call out likes with impunity.

George: We have a majority rule form of government and yes the CA legislature have been under democratic party control continuously since 1958 with the exception of two two year republican majorities in the Assembly during the Reagan and Wilson administrations. Prior to 1958 going back to 1900, the situation was the exact reverse with the state senate continuously in republican hands as was the legislature with the exception of 1938-42 when the assembly was in democratic control. The political pendulum seems not to swing in CA. It seems to be either one way or the other for long periods of time.
It has only been during and since the Reagan era that CA has ever had any governors (all Republican) who served with democratically controlled legislature for any length of time. I guess the question is who has more power to enact a political agenda a governor or the legislature, the president or the congress in situations where there is a political split between the two? That might define ‘rule’ more clearly for those of us who don’t know what ‘rule’ means.

Time to clear the air and get back to Dr. Rebane’s topic at hand.
First, I want to announce publicly that I forgive you, Steve. I forgive you not because you poisoned my people and their little innocent children, but I forgive you because that is the kind of evolved person I am. Time to drop the rock and free us both.
I wish to add that at least you keep you antics on the other side of the range where water runs away from the Western Slope, where I currently abide.. Helpful hint #3: Always best to keep those kind of mischievous antics on the Eastern side of mountains. Gotta like your style though. The images of canoes paddling through orange foam was something only a Bronco fan would dream up. Nice touch.
Besides, the Navajos were not here first. The Hopi outdated them by a good 800 years, so screw them undocumented Redskins. Plus they are not an attractive tribe, so drink up boys, drinks are on the EPA. You have been given a clean slate, Mr. Steve.
Now, the real important stuff. Hillary. Are we giving her too much exposure, thus helping her achieve inevitably? Hmmm. Much to ponder this fine lovely morning.

John Sparr, a mining engineer and geologist, said merely planting trees is no guarantee that the CO2 from burning coal will be absorbed.
“On paper, it is simple to calculate the amount of CO2 emissions a ton of coal will produce and then to calculate the number of trees it takes to consume the CO2,” Sparr said. “The problem with that theory is that you have to “train” the CO2 molecules to go to those trees . . . maybe we only burn coal when the wind is blowing in that direction?
“And, oh yes, the trees,” he said. “Are these mature, 40-foot oak trees they are planting, or more likely 16-inch pine seedlings? Do they realize how long it will take to get a mature forest capable of consuming the CO2?”

Walt, a 36″ diameter oak is safe to say over 200 years old. Very safe to say. The diameter measurement is taken 4 feet from the ground. However, some 18″ diameter oaks have been found to well over a century old and many pushing 200 years old themselves. Had a 72″ diameter black oak once. Well, I owned the land but one never really owns the trees or the land, IMHO. That was one old mamba jamba , fully crowned. A branch one night fell and blocked the driveway. The branch’ alone was the height of the hood of a 3/4 ton 1970 GMC 4×4. Big boy, but I digress. Grow piss fir and yellow or white pine is you want to reforest in a couple of generations or so, lol.

StevenF 359pm – I don’t think that Walt’s 950am indicated he didn’t understand that the carbon cycle “is a global ecosystem function”. But the entire carbon cycle itself (sources, sinks, and rates of production and absorption) is not well understood. Most certainly not understood to a degree that a system scientist would claim useful in general circulation models to predict climate variability – especially isolating out the effect of any one small component – over the coming couple of decades, let alone the rest of the century.
Here’s how NOAA’s PR people try to put the best face on it. Reading this as a professional confirms the assessment on the worth of today’s GCM models.

Funny George, I don’t think that that is at all what Walt meant. If he did then why did he repost this?
The idea that the global carbon cycle is not well understood is complete malarky. We know more about and are doing more research on a daily basis on carbon cycle components that almost any other areas of scientific research other than perhaps medical research on various cancers. The idea that systems scientists and models have not been able to predict variability within a reasonable range of uncertainty is also complete malarky. Climate models have certainly progressed to the point that they are remarkably accurate at predicting long term changes and are becoming more accurate all the time predicting shorter term affects. The question is not are they accurate, they will never be 100% accurate, they are models. The question is are they accurate enough for people to act on their predictions.
