George Rebane

I’ve been away on the NorCal coast where connectivity and even cell phone service ranges between unavailable and being a sometime thing.  With some friends we caravanned up to an RV park near Manchester, and took some day trips up and down the coast to see how folks there were making do.  One thing always strikes me in those parts is how our Agenda21 types have made sure that public lands (and beaches) number as few as possible, and those that do allow non-government human visits are made inconvenient to one and all.

Most ‘coastal access’ sites do not allow dogs for reasons that are completely beyond my ken, but it serves well to project the ascendant power of our econazis.  And all coastal access sites have their parking lots quite a distance from the surf again for reasons I’ll let you figure out.  One access site that did not restrict dogs required you to walk almost a mile on a path of loose sand through row after row of dunes stretching for miles in both directions.  It took about 20 minutes for a one way trip.  None but the hale and hearty, and desperate to have their puppy run on the sand need apply.  The biggest employer there is – you guessed it – the government.  Lots of uniformed people from various agencies are up there to make sure the taxpayer does not stray from his permitted path.  Why not hire fewer bureaucrats and extend the little one lane roads to within 100 yards of the surf?  Let the people who own it have their taxes pay for access so they can enjoy the public beaches.

I noticed the comment stream on the last sandbox has conversations and debates that exceed 250 entries.  One leftwing regular doesn’t understand the use of coal in today’s world; he thinks that this fossil fuel has seen its last days and is on the way out.  Meanwhile others are telling him that the patron saint of socialism George Soros dropped a bundle into coal investments.  Of course our lefty didn’t have clue about that – why would MSNBC report something like that? – and when pressed, made some lame remark about buying low during the recent market dip and then selling high.  Someone else had to remind him that Soros bought way before the markets hiccupped.  But those conversations go nowhere since such corrections and related questions are simply ignored and papered over by yet another question from leftwing news.

The microcosm of such exchanges mirror exactly what is going on nationally with Hillary’s campaign.  She just keeps repeating the same irrelevancies about not handling any emails on her private server that were "marked classified".  And her constituents, starting with Obama’s Josh Earnest, just lap it up and repeat same for the greater unwashed.  Nevertheless, that scandal itself has taken on a life of its own, and it will take Hillary to places she knows not.  Meanwhile fellow Democrats are already sharpening their knives for when the time comes – ‘Et tu, Bidenius?’

[31aug15 update]  Constitutional theorist Philip Bobbitt writes on Stratfor a piece revealing a specious practice of debating that is quite common in the national debates, and even on these pages.  In ‘Fallacies of Argument’ Professor Bobbitt highlights the ‘guise of accountability’ with

President Barack Obama's observation in his American University address last week that "many of the same people who argued for the war in Iraq are now making the case against the Iran deal." There are two points being made here, and both are insidious.

One is that it is necessary to hold our leaders "accountable" for their alleged mistakes by ignoring their arguments in a current debate in favor of reminding them, and us, of the errors they have made in the past. This is not an argument about the merits — the "arcana" — of a proposed treaty or statute but rather an effort to dispense with such hard work in favor of embarrassing the people with whom one disagrees. Its claim of retribution or payback — "accountability" — for past actions is in fact merely a forensic weapon in a present debate.

You can read the entire article yourself to glean Bobbitt’s second point.  But I just wanted to highlight here that our comment streams are full of “effort(s) to dispense with such hard work in favor of embarrassing the people with whom one disagrees.”  One does not have to look far.

One thing I don’t understand is why would anyone consider voting for someone whom all polls say people just plain do not trust. Would you let anyone you feel is neither honest or trustworthy (and is a pathological liar to boot) housesit for you when you are on vacation?
The best defense is a good offense. She is starting to feel the heat, namely the big donors are hanging back to see what happens. Deflection is the perfect medicine to lift her spirits. Now, if she can only draw another crowd of 2,500, life will be good once again.

Love the Mendo Coast around Manchester and Pt. Arena, and all points north and south of there. The Stornetta Public Lands was one of the great federal public land purchases of the millennium on the West Coast. What was the problem with access? No, dogs are not allowed there, as in most of the CA and Federal coastal parks. Apparently you’re not familiar with the concept of endangered plovers and such. Maybe check out a book about it? Just a thought. I’ve had many memorable hikes there over the last few years and no problem with human access.

Here’s the story on Stornetta. But of course, President Obama was involved, so even though we have more access than ever on former private lands, this is a negative story? The private owners were kind enough to open up more public lands for access to the people along the coast. Pretty damn American.

This whole e-mail tiny controversy started with a Freedom of Information request concerning 2 of Clinton’s aides’ correspondence with Rodham. Whatz her name and the other Whatz er’ name. The Dynamic Duo were the ones targeted with the FOIA requests by media and others. That was how if became known that Rodham, as Secetary of State with the top secret clearance handling “for her eyes only” stuf, just could not manage two e-mail accounts. For much of this Rodham was not the target. Until recently.

Well, we’re back on the coal debate with the reprobate socialist Jon who presents strong albeit unsupported leftwing positions, and refuses to believe opposing assertions no matter their support. An example is that today the world uses more coal than ever before, and the projected worldwide use of coal will continue to soar. It is only developed countries in the thrall of econazis that are doing their best to reduce the use of coal, and beggaring themselves in the process. The west’s recovery from the Great Recession (cum depression) is an example of applying such policies economy wide.

Public land access, you hit on one of my pet peeves. We have the same problem here in Nevada County just go to Spenceville Wildlife area. There are nice roads that are gated off that you as citizens cannot drive on. You must climb the fence and walk on the road. Be on the lookout for traffic though, you may have to get out the way for employees driving along the roads. This limits the access to only healthy enough people that can walk a long distance. This also limits what activity to you can do our public areas. I love to fly model gliders and unless you can haul all of that stuff up on your back, you cannot fly your glider there. This holds true for on our Land Trust lands that use public money to obtain these lands and promptly limits the access to the activities that they want to allow, when they want to allow it, if you can physically manage it. If not tough luck.

And your characterization of the “depressed and lethargic state” of Appalachia’s people, especially as its implied cause being coal, is more than an unsubstantiated leap of attempted reasoning. But we do know for certain that poor people being deprived of accessible economic improvement do wind up less healthy whether they live in coal country or not.

That’s not germane to what Todd asked unless jon considers millions freezing to death acceptable because they’re in the minority and shouldn’t use a power source that he doesn’t approve of.

The Dems hate to lose. They would rather eat their young than tell the truth. Winning at all costs. No, they have not even begun to implode yet. They have all fall and next summer to do that. And I bet they implode in a graceless manner.
Rodham is now setting out to look presidential, a shift in strategy. To show her in a more favorable light and looking Presidential, she had requested that all her appearances are held in auditoriums where the lights are dimmed. Heck, at least her news tragedy of speaking in the dark is saving energy,a good thing.
Judging by the last one the Dems nominated, looking Presidential is a fairly low threshold. Sure, there are always the disgruntled former postal workers behind the scenes in the DNC, but they manage to always rally atound their talking points.
Debbie isn’t looking to good lately. I saw her rallying the troops in Iowa. She was putting on her happy face and tossing red meat to her people. They were cheering and clapping. Unfortunately, the camera pulled back to reveal a crowd of about 26 lost souls clapping and milling about.
Lately, each time I see a pic of Rodman or Debbie, I can’t help but think of the scene out of The Wizard of Oz when the poor witch is uttering “I’m melting, I’m melting. the resemblance is uncanny.

Ok. Fossil fuel prices (oil) are dropping. Coal is so yesterday. Natural gas is captured by cracking. Whatz an eco friendly nation to do? Don’t think wind farms will be a viable solution for the first country on the planet to have plant rights enshrined in its constitution. Equal rights and all that stuff. Will scorched earth fields of solar panels build new roads and pay for new schools? Don’t think they have enough sugar cane like Brazil to run their cars or economy. What’s a tree hugging lib to do? The pat answer is to make a few insignificant snips to the budget and, of course, raise taxes again and again on the filthy uncaring rich. Do like their subsidized oil prices at the pump though. Its sooo much like Venezuela.

OK, I’m going to ask two of our intrepid political analysts – Messrs Tozer and Branson – to enlighten us (at least me) on the individual planks of the platform that The Donald is hammering together during his electioneering. Also please include in your assessments as to what operational conditions (e.g. over being “treated fairly”) need to be met so that he finally settles down and agrees to endorse whoever becomes the Republican candidate.
As ever, views from other quarters are always welcome. The aim here is to get an organized (structured?) commentary on the man’s compass.

Individual planks. That is easy. 1) put a fork in anything PC. It’s ripping our country apart and stifles thought and speech. Free us from the shackles, if you prefer. 2) American interests first. That’s it.
Trump finally settles down? Gosh, I hope not. Agree to endorse what Republican wins the nomination?? Oh, Dr. Rebane, whatever medication you are currently taking is messing with your mind. :). He wants to save SSI, where the establishment GOP wants to “gut it”. He understands the current and future oldsters will need it.
He wants to “revamp” the EPA. He wants to make big changes to the Dept. of education.
    The same goes for Obummercare.
“O” has cut the balls off our military. Trump says he wants to find another “Patton and MaCarthur” to rebuild or forces.

Messrs Tozer and (Walt) Branson, thank you. Mr Tozer good naturedly attacked an undefended hill – I made no claim about Trump’s decision to endorse; it was just a question. But I do take aim at “American interests first” as being too broad and unfocused – even liberals in these pages claim to back their version of American interests first. More specificity about Trump’s version of such interests please.
While Mr Branson presents more specifics – which I find easy to embrace – I cannot agree that Trump is the “polar opposite” of being “divisive”. Let alone the country’s vast liberal electorate, the man has also managed to rend asunder the very party under whose flag he currently enjoys his notoriety and large audiences.

I see Trump’ s widening appeal (palatability) is a big pushback to PCness. And PCness applies to so many aspects of our lives. Including screwing with the policy of appeasement in forgein and all domestic affairs. Call a spade and spade and people start gleefully (some say it’s a human condition take a sick pleasure to tune into what The Donald said today)….. er…….people are gleefully brimming ear to ear cause he is saying exactly what we are not allowed to. Pushback time from across the board. No mas
Heck, Trump ain’t no Polished and Groomed In Waiting Republican. Probably more of a hard nosed old school Dem,
Trump’s agenda and platforms? Right now it does not matter. Yes, it matters but he will fail most of our conservative tests. Maybe he is capturing the “get off my back” push back reality caused by living in our current society. A do your on thing type of guy. On petty issues like transgender operations or Greece, he don’t waste his time yapping about it.
Some of the other Republican Candidates are better, but as long as The Donald keeps walking in the room, they all look like runner ups. I say if it tears apart the party and 2016 is a total disaster, then so be it. The Dems got ripped up at their Convention in 68 and rebuilt into what they are now. If it happens to the Republicans in the convention in 2016, the party will in time reemerge with a new face.
Footnoe: The Communist Party of America back in the day had to drop their name. At first they looked at the Republican Party, but could not infiltrate the caucuses nor made meaningful inroads in the smallest local control districts. However, the decision was made to jump in with both feet by the Late fifties/early sixties and control the caucuses. 68 was their moment of reward for all their hard work preparing for the right opportunity. Thus, in 2015 they are who they are.

Well, thank you kindly of adding links to this topic. Socialists are not Communits? You know, the true Commuism on paper, not those mass murdering Communist states. That is a different Communist Party. Right.
I am quite the lazy one. Long story short. I spent a day shuttling around an old bag that was heavily involved in The CA Republican Party. She told me stories of having to drag Howard Jarvis into a shower cause he stinked so bad and wouldn’t bathe for days and reeked during his drinking bouts. And stories of Congressman Nixon and VP Nixon and dropped her off to see David Eiseinhower and some other movers and shakers I never heard of. Of course I was invited in. Orange County, and I did not give a rat’s rear about politics. Just another chapter in a boring book.
Point is, she told me that story. I forgot it for decades. BTW, this was after Watergate and I could tell there was some friction between David and Nixon’s baby girl Julie at the time when discussing the party’s bleak future. Gloomy times and touchy subjects apparently. Sociatist, Communist, there are all Ists to me.
Lazy cause I did not research the topic, nor care to. I should have not listened to the old bag telling me about coffee and schedule planning in CA when VP Richard Milhouse Nixon was in CA. She was a bit..,eccentric. and taught literature at USC. I was too naive then and now. I accept full responsibility, not. It’s the old bag’s fault.

You can watch those Clinton numbers shrink over time. Most of the head to head has her under 45% anyway. Not a good sign this far out. Also, likability polls show her not so liked. That is a big deal for the low information voters.

Paul, Rodham’s poll numbers are bad news for the Repubs? Nay my good fellow, it is bad news for Repubs, Dems, Indies, and Libertations. Bad for the USofA. Good news for control freaks. I have no reason to argue with any numbers or polls.
BTW Paul, whoever is spinning the records right now is playing some good stuff. I will start listening every Sunday afternoon to hear that DJ’s playlist. Kudos to him/her.

Poor Doug. Again on the wrong side of reality. As I recall, the leaders of LIBS said they would retake both houses in the last election. How did that work out?
Another fact, the tea Party elected more to local and state positions than GOP and LIBS combined.
The tea Party is growing. Sucks to be you. CLB caught up with you yet? How bout the IRS?

A little something for the posting compost pile. Your fellow Commie (Sanders)is whining that the head Commies are not playing fair. Things are rigged in “soon to be a felon” Hillary’s favor.

Like all liberals “jon” thinks things in the world are simply a “zero sum game”. Of course that is BS and anyone with a brain knows it. Like the liberals “zero sum pie” of money. If it was true their would be a dollar to distribute and America would have failed years ago for stagnation. The truth about the Tea Party is this. Even if all the members died out tomorrow, another group would take over. But liberals like “jon” can’t even conceive of that. What a ridiculous logic, or ignorance of reality.
