Did Johnson ever use the “N” word? Probably. He grew up in segregated Texas and was a man of his times.
Did he use the word in the context suggested by Kessler, 30 years after the fact? Highly questionable. I’m guessing he got the “quote” from at least a second, and probably a third or fourth-hand source.

Trump could be the Ross Perot of 2016. Like Ross he certainly has the ego for it and is somewhat of a similar business tycoon that can fund his own way. The Pubbers are going gentle on Trump because they know he can do that. It’s a big problem yet to be resolved.
By the way what happened to the Newt? He was the closest thing the Pubsters had to a Conservative intellectual. Could have actually become President but he was just too weird for public consumption and had marital problems not consistent with bible thumper idealism.

LBJ was a racist and probably did say all those forbidden words. Reminds me of Nixon when the tapes came out on him. Very anti-jew. LBJ no doubt used the N word in his Oval Office discussions.

Over the decades I’ve heard that LBJ quote a number of times, and agree with Mr Boardman as to its plausibility. I too would like to get a surviving reference to it. But I suspect that the lamestream along with their progressive politicians have done everything possible to impugn and/or expunge that quote from whatever politically incorrect archive it was found. History must be rewritten so that the young can be “carefully taught” (cf. ‘South Pacific’).

I completely disagree with Mr. Boardman as to it’s plausibility.
LBJ was as he mentioned “a man of his times” and faced with the political realities of his era almost certainly sought to salvage something from the exchange….the ability to successfully lock in a voting block in near perpetuity would be a reasonable exchange for what might otherwise be considered a political loss.
I think it’s entirely likely that that phrase or one very similar was uttered by LBJ.

Mr Boardman said he doubted the context in which Kessler related LBJs use of the word. “Highly questionable”……were his words to which you agreed!
I don’t believe it was highly questionable at all. LBJ had a reputation for coarse language notable even during that non PC era. His use of the term as well as claiming some political gain from what had to be considered an overall loss to the political powers of the time would have been in character for Johnson.

Well, boys, what we have here is lack of certifiable validation.
Oh, let’s see now. LBJ was a lib. Libs say things like that. Robert Byrd did as well. Boy, The Distinguished Senator from West Virgiinny could not stop dropping the n word his whole life. But, he was a lib and left us with a nice taxpayer funded statue of himself. More importantly, he brought home the bacon.
Did hear about some unnamed high spirited playful hooligans committing some misdemeanor in the cover of darkness by putting white sheets over the statue’s head, complete with a burning cross at the statue of the former Klan leader. They got away. Witnesses said they were wearing white sheets and figured it was them crazy Greeks from the local university throwing a Toga Party. So, perhaps only Ladybird would know. Strike that, she died. I liked her. Check out the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower site sometime if you are planning on sticking some drought tolerate plants into out lovely soil. A wealth of botonical information, but I digress.
So, did he say it or not? Did LBJ really sit on toilet in the Oval Office and then have the Secret Service usher in those wishing his ear? Yep. He was a lib though and though, despite his Ten Gallon Hat ways of communication. Wonder if Bobby Byrd got the Porcelian Throne welcome on one of his visits to Johnson. I bet he did. Left him shaking in his boots until the day he died.

fish 609pm – Then your 543pm directly misquotes me. My 524pm said that “(I) agree with Mr Boardman as to its plausibility.” Where the confusion might have arisen is that Boardman cites two epochs in which LBJ plausibly used “nigger”. Most certainly he did in his youth, but the point of the quote here is that he also used that appellation in private during his political life which includes his presidency. What I’m reporting is that the quote was attributed to him quite frequently in the 1960s and 70s by multiple sources. Then when political correctness began to descend over the country, awkward reports like that were heard less frequently to the point where today, witness Mr Boardman, the man’s record has been scrubbed clean.
It is hard to conceive that LBJ had an epiphany about his feelings toward the blacks when he pushed through CRA1964. He evinced no animosity toward African-Americans, but he did consider them as an extremely manipulable constituency, and during his lifetime LBJ was perhaps the country’s most accomplished manipulator, reverting to scripture as required – “Come now, let us reason together.”

Well, at least with Truman, we can gather his quotes and lay them on his gravesite with the inscription “The buck stops here.” Geez, not even someone as crass and tasteless as moi has never uttered such a phrase. CalPERS misses its target return by a wide margin — The California Public Employees’ Retirement System said its fund returned just 2.4% on its investments for the year ended June 30, a huge miss from its 7.5% investment target and a worrisome result for California taxpayers who must make up for any shortfalls in funding pensions. RussS 955pm – Thanks for that update; the announcement was long expected since everyone in the world knows what kinds of returns come from debt and the equity markets have done nothing. What should be pointed out is the insane hope and deep draughts of Kool-Aid that was required for the state’s progressives to keep their faith in the 7.5% from its first announcement some years back (to pooh-pooh the amount of CalPERS’ unfunded liabilities) until presumably now. Socialists don’t do economics and finance very well, and they have a hard time with numbers.

    Finally:
State and local governments will no longer be allowed to hide the true costs of the long-term benefits provided to government workers.
A recent change by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, known simply by the acronym GASB, forces government bodies to be more transparent in reporting pension liabilities and long-term commitments for retiree heath care. Among the changes: the liabilities must be reported on the first page of financial reports instead of being buried in a footnote.

With the latest CalPERS results, anyone want to guess what Nevada County’s unfunded liabilities are? It will soon be front page news.

The fact that some of you are enamored with Trump says a lot. Trump proves beyond a reasonable doubt that one does not have to be intelligent to accumulate wealth, especially if you inherit it. That anyone would think that he would make a good president goes beyond reason and into the realm of fantasy. A look at his hairdo should be enough to convince any astute person that the man is not playing with a full deck.

“how can the rest of country with similar deficiencies, no matter how they comb their hair, replicate Trump’s accomplishments?” it’s called inheritance George.. like the Kochs, the Waltons, and most other radical right political activist billionaires. They never had to lift a finger to be wealthy, all they had to do was preserve it, no real accomplishment actually if you have good financial advisors. In fact, the most likely determining factor in accumulating wealth in America is inheritance, not innovation or hard work. Most billionaires just got it handed to them by their daddies while they were raised by nannies and then shipped off to boarding school. Not a real psychologically stable childhood that seems to often play out in narcissist delusions of grandeur promulgated by using their wealth and power to impose their values on there rest of us. I just don’t trust people with comb overs or toupees, it is a sign of insecurity just like fake tits.

From a fiscal point of view, Trump is probably the ideal Republican candidate for President. The Donald almost lost his empire in the ’90s, but he owed the banks so much money, they couldn’t afford to let him go under.
When you consider how we run the government on debt, Trump would fit right in.
He also seems to have (if you will) personal worth issues when it comes to how much money he has. Few people cooperate when Forbes does its annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans, but Trump tried to convince the magazine several years ago that he was worth more than he was.
Then there was the time he sued an author for writing in his book that Trump was worth less than he claimed. The case as dismissed.

Some of you may have seen the front page article in the union today that claimed SAM (smart approaches to marijuana) was making a presentation to the County BOS today. It was news to SAM too as the person who was mentioned as making our presentation was out of the State today and we had no such plans. Turns out that the individuals email account was hacked and hijacked and an email was sent to media outlets as a genuine SAM press release from the individuals email account and the Union took it at face value without confirming with any SAM folks. (the union will be doing a story on the story within the story) This is only one of a number of very odd happenings related to emails in recent weeks and continues the pattern of harassment of anti drug orgs. Guess the pot profiteers are worried and feel the need to create more problems than they already do.
