[Well, all the liberal palaber about Common Core being just standards and not specific requirements for curricula is just so much BS as states are now beginning to find out. Climate change propaganda has been inserted as a required topic ranging from grade through middle to high school. Students will have AGW drilled into their heads without debate, much like the Catholics and Calvinists ran their religious schools. Funny isn’t it…..republican family values types constantly getting busted in compromising sexual situations and the non-materialistic, hating greed and dirty money dems tripped up over money scandals!
I tell you it’s enough to make a libertarian want to go on living!LikeLike

Whats the reason for the angry post, Scotty? Did the shot at Repubs hit home too close? You seem to be a very angry fellow in general, very unhappy with the world of the 21st century.

Shantytown Sweden
The welfare-state country finds itself engulfed by international beggars.
Citizens of Sweden—a welfare-state society—probably never thought that they would see the day when shantytowns dotted their major cities. Recent years have seen an enormous influx of beggars from other European countries; in the past year alone, the number of vagrants from Romania and Bulgaria has doubled, to 4,000. Their arrival is a consequence of the European Union’s principle of the free movement of persons—a well-meaning policy but one that, at least in this case, has produced the sight of scores of beggars sitting outside supermarkets, drugstores, and upscale boutiques, hoping that someone will leave a coin in their 7-Eleven coffee mugs. They beg in the most affluent districts, where the social contrast between the person kneeling in the street and the passersby toting Luis Vuitton bags becomes almost perverse. In the evenings, the indigent—some with terrible physical disabilities—retreat to the shantytowns or to some other form of shelter. Some may be victims of human trafficking, as suggested by the “rent” they pay criminal compatriots for their begging spaces.

From jon – “You seem to be a very angry fellow in general, very unhappy with the world of the 21st century.”
Then jon avers – “Scott, I can read. No one attacked you”
I know I’ve asked this many times, but really – are there any on the left with intelligence or cognitive powers?
“I can read” Oh good – so can my 5 year old grandson. My daughter could read when she was 3.
You just can’t make this stuff up, folks.LikeLike

“Every election season that party preaches the fact they are superior in matters of virtue and honesty. Its great when the phonies come to light” – Jon (Frisch)
That’s the sort of bullcrap misrepresentation that made it easy for me to walk away from what the Democratic Party had become. A moral superiority of the actors was never the message… which was that legislation and policy needed to be family friendly, not make it difficult for good parents to raise their children as they see fit.
Steve, given you never had any children, you never had to fight a bureaucracy that was not doing right by your child.LikeLike

“Todd, I have to tell you something- a fully consensual tryst with an 23 yr old adult intern does not fit the description of molesting.” – Jon (Frisch)
I agree, she was clearly above the age of consent and invited the attention. What about that celebrated gay male Democratic congressman banging a 17 year old male Congressional page and never losing an election over it?LikeLike

Jon, at the time the big deal being pushed by the fem lobby all over America was men screwing interns and/or women less powerful who worked for them. That is the point as it seems you have forgotten. Monica Lewinsky was working for the dirtbag and my goodness we sure were lectured by Steinem etal that that was illegal. But anything goes with the libs, at the R’s boot their transgressors out most of time. The dems promote.

Thanks for the gift! Despite the fact that LE is holding onto prohibition with a death grip, marijuana is going mainstream. It is encouraging when conservative talk show hosts recommend MJ for Vets dealing wit PTSD, but it more encouraging that the Senate got on board so Vets can finally get the help the need. This is a good thing.
But these darn politicians just can’t keep their hands out of our personal lives. I saw on the news recently that there are talks to raise the minimum age to smoke cigarettes and others want to lower the BAC or adopt a zero tolerance policy. While I am not a fan of either cigerattes or alcohol, I believe in a person’s right to make these decisions for themselves.LikeLike

I am always amused when I come back here on occasion for my weekly comedy break. Rebane’s Ruminants is a touchstone reminding us of the thought process of the befuddled. For many the daily outlet for their alienation from society is through blogs and in letters to the editor. It is somehow comforting to know that the outlet exists to soak up the edges of society so more focused people can work on things that matter more…the world where decisions are made, life lived, ideas advanced, and change made.
Kudos to the blog, and to the litterbox, where the detritus of daily life can be dumped, and in dumping, lighten the colonic burden many here obviously suffer.
Imagine my surprise to find the ultimate colonic burden, Gregory Goodknight, pushing the contention that I am “Jon”.
Besides the fact that the content of the posts by “Jon” are out of character with my interests, or that the content does not fit my too well recorded speech patterns and syntax, or the insult inherent to “Jon” that he/she is not an original voice, it is still somehow comforting for me to know that Mr. Goodknight is fixated on revealing identity and simultaneously creating a foil for his daily burden.
Mr. Goodknight carries a heavy burden, the burden of maintaining perhaps the most consistently negative, bitter and irrational voice I have ever seen in the blogosphere, and that’s saying a lot. In a sense I feel sorry for Greg. He earns our pity every day.
No Greg, I am not “Jon”, although I do occasionally enjoy Jon’s perspective. But you see, you will never know, so you, and everyone else in the litterbox can speculate. In the speculation you will waste another day of your life accomplishing nothing and the circle of stupid will continue. Ultimately it is comforting to me to know that the circle, constantly refreshed discontent, will waste away like the seed of Onan.LikeLike

Good of you to notice, Patricia. Davis just passed an ordinance that mandates restaraunts to ‘primarily’ offer milk or water for a child’s meal. The kid can actually order a gallon of soda, but the onus is on the restaraunt to proffer the other first. I’m glad Davis has no other problems.
The feds are using the clause about ‘navigable’ waterways to include any kind of runoff or mud puddle to intrude on the operations of private land owners. MJ is the last thing to worry about. Anyone can get it and smoke it in their house. LE isn’t going to do squat. Folks like Bernie Sanders are a far bigger threat to personal liberty.
The whole AGW thing is all about the intrusion of the govt into practically every part of our lives. The EPA wants to ‘inspect’ your home on a regular basis. For your own good, don’t you know.LikeLike

I think you are “Jon” too Frisch. You are the same colonic personality and provide us all with so much amusement. We like debating and you like telling everyone how smart you are. I realize this isn’t the ‘high minded’ commentary Mr Boardman wants, but I do have another item in the catagory of govt solving our worst problems.
“New York City and Santa Barbara, California are among the first U.S. cities to outlaw long breath holding in public pools.”
No doubt these fine municipalities will hire specialists with stop watches to enforce the new rule.
Makes you wonder how the human race managed to exist before we had govt to tell us how to live.LikeLike

<i.Posted by: Scott Obermuller | 29 May 2015 at 09:15 AM
An excellent point to raise Mr. Obermuller. I too hope it meets Mr. Boardmans high standards for discussion.
I would also like to point out that your observation about further nitwittery in both New York and Santa Barbara presents an excellent opportunity for Mr. Frisch to expand the SBC into a subsidiary “Sierra Breathing Council” that can whomp up plans, strategy, and doctrine for proper breath control monitoring programs at the various pool facilities in those quaint little burgs!LikeLike

Steven Frisch, you’ve been sliming me for years now, starting with bitter exchanges over climate, and I hear your words asserting your Doppelgänger, “Jon”, does not share the same skinsuit. However, you and “Jon” certainly do share a number of linguistic and other patterns and it will take more than a diatribe to the contrary from you to clear that link.
Life is good with the Stygian/Frischian sidetrips only a footnote.
Sometimes itches need to be scratched and mosquitoes flattened.LikeLike

If Boardman wanted haute discours he could have added some rather than just adding more droppings to the sandbox.
Scott, after digging into it, you’re all wet regarding the pool issue. Even in an anarcho-libertarians gone wild world, the owner of the swimming pool would still get to make the rules, and it is apparently a real issue. Santa Barbara banned the underwater breath holding training after a collegiate water polo player, an expert swimmer, died in their pool last year.
If it actually has training value, I’d expect a protocol to be in place, some sort of a buddy system, to insure the trainee doesn’t die.

“Climate change was (and is) going to be a part of school curriculum regardless of common core” -Jon (Frisch?), top
Yes, it was, and is a part of public school curriculum, but it eventually won’t be. Climate change, as “Jon” understands it, is a curious hybrid of politics and new age religion, neither of which belong in K-12 science lessons, crowding out the biology, chemistry and physics that kids need in ever larger and more analytical doses to make sense of the world. By a number of solar physicists, a cold phase is imminent and it is only a matter of time before the climate models that are the justification for the alarm will be a public laughingstock.
We still (always!) have weather to contend with and it is perfectly possible for, say, an El Nino to arrive and give the alarm a fresh boost.
Now, back to the more mundane tasks of the morning.LikeLike

The trend of public education is a joke if it wasn’t so tragic. When home schooling made its entrance the teachers union mentality went ballistic. I remember watching our daughter teaching her three children, and thinking how lucky they were. She had quite an organized curriculum where they learned all kinds of things. If they worked hard they could finish early and go fishing…whatever. I remember teachers and other adults being against it until I mentioned she was a teacher. Eventually the charter schools were getting more and more popular because many kids hated public school time wasting where they couldn’t learn and do. That’s why charters are now so popular. If kids don’t want to learn they get kicked out and return to the babysitter public environment. I got my information from a kid who loves his charter school compared to what he endured in public school where the goof-offs determine what gets accomplished.

Gregory – I’m well aware of the fact that tragically, some one died. As kids we would see how long we could hold our breath under water and I don’t seem to remember anyone dying. I never said they didn’t have the right to make it a law, but that doesn’t mean they have to or should make it law. If we’re going to pass laws about every single activity that has caused a death or two, there’s no end to it. The govt spends so much time on nonsense – why not direct their attention to waste and fraud?

Bonnie, charter schools are no panacea. Locally, the worst schools, as measured by the now suspended academic progress index, were charters. The Grass Valley Charter at Hennessey, Yuba River Charter, all the Nevada County Office of Ed charters. From listening to a number of their students pleading to the board to renew their arrangement at Bear River, I expect the “Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning” (SAEL) would be at least as bad as their sister elementary school, the Grass Valley Charter, also an “Expeditionary Learning” school.
The Grass Valley Charter’s Merry Byles-Daly was named Expeditionary Learning teacher of the year a couple years ago by their national organization, elschools.org. Merry was also the Master Teacher who, at Hennessey two decades ago, was the one in charge of pouring the Common Core math du jour, MathLand, into the school and was the one in charge of reporting back to the board how well it was working. Up until the first STAR exam showed half the kids in the bottom quartile, she was reporting it was working just great!LikeLike

This isn’t kids playing a game, these are athletes training themselves to ignore the breathing reflex in order to maximize their endurance while remaining submerged, and what happens if you go past the point of no return is to pass out. Under water.LikeLike

Scott,, ” BBQ pit masters” has been on all week. I have been taking notes.
All I did was put a thermometer on that old cooker, and found out I was using it ALL WRONG!
Yup,, that boob tube (TV) became a learn’n tool.
It was babyback ribs and a beef roast on Mon. ( Damn… The ribs were left on 15 min. too long) That won’t happen twice.
OH yes.. I got me a new hobby. What we can’t eat ( there is only two of us) we sent next door, or to friends down the road.
Another 45 min. on that pork loin. BTW.
Kosher salt on pork (and plenty of it) Yes ,, even the Rabbi will be salivating.
There must be a local cook off coming up soon I can enter in.
Since this IS Nevada Co.,,, I may need to invent a recipe with a quality MJ “spice”.
That’s ONE way to keep them coming back for more. ( People’s choice vote?)LikeLike
