[The old sandbox is overflowing again. In the effort to evaluate and/or design alternatively powered vehicles that was initiated in the 27apr15 sandbox, it would help for our more environmentally concerned readers to recognize that the energy to move a given mass (say, automobile) from point A to B in time interval T requires a certain minimal amount of energy, regardless of the power source employed. A commenter in the last sandbox summarized it nicely in a restatement of thermodynamical non-negotiables. gjr]

JoeK, you obviously have only been in the Sierra Nevada a short time. Timber is plentiful and it has been a steady crop for many many years until the hoax of the Spotted Owl’s demise was foisted on the country. Now it burns up. Mining and grazing were also a plentiful way to make a living until they (government) decided to regulate it out of existence. I recall just a few short years ago when candidate Obama said the coal industry could certainly exist but it was his goal to regulate and fee it into oblivion. So we see his success. It is government spurred on by econuts and vested interests that have ruined the county job markets. If you don’t believe that you are at best naive or worst, stupid.

Say WHAT!!??? Just where do you get that idea Wile E.? There is PLENTY of gold and other minerals in these here hills. Mining didn’t get stopped because “we ran out” of the stuff.
( Yes, an ACME anvil once again has fallen from the sky and squarely hit the Koyote).
A little test for Joe. Q: What really closed the mines in the state, and why? And be specific.
( Hint.. Gov. played a role) And to make it a tad easier, you can stick to Grass Valley. ( plenty of easy to find history on it.)LikeLike

Patrica. Oh yes I can. ( have it both ways)
The provisions in “S” that gave “renters” the right to destroy someone else’s property
was a bone head idea from the start. ( You remember,, “altering” the plumbing to make a proper grow house.) The house that I used to own is still uninhabitable and under repair from the actions of one of your “harmless” clan. They made their profits and stuck me with the aftermath.
And don’t try and use the excuse that ” not all are like that”. One was enough for me.LikeLike
-
Walt, I’m not going to try to change your mind about anything. If you want to hold on to incorrect “facts”, be my guest. You’ve earned the right to be uninformed.
I doubt that you ever read Measure S because there was nothing that allowed anyone to alter plumbing for a grow house without proper permitting. It was intended to put an end to people ripping up housing.
If you form your opinions based on the actions of one person, you are going to live in a very narrow world. I suggest you lock your doors and stay inside so you don’t have to encounter anyone you disagree with.LikeLike

Walt, of all your thousands of rambling, nonsensical posts of your opinions, that last one about Measure S and renters allowed to modify and/or trash owners plumbing was- frankly – the dumbest of the dumb. If you cannot summon up enough logic, reason and facts to overcome your anger and emotion on certain issues, you should stop posting. Patricia is being overly kind to you.

Jon 1001am – re Measure S, what is not explicitly prohibited is allowed. Are you arguing that what is not explicitly allowed is then prohibited?LikeLike
-
Yes Dr. R. they are still trying to play that game, we all saw how well it played with the electorate in November. Even Pascale of Yuba Net called patiie out on that in our debate. Sounds like ‘jon’ was involved in that ‘scientific poll’ the asa blathered about that they claimed showed 70% of the County supported measure s when it was exactly the other way around. It lost bigger than anything in the state! They are at least consistent in sticking to their dogma however far afield from the truth it is.

FROM CARLY FIORINA’S BOOK, Rising To The Challenge:
California is now the home of 111 billionaires, with assets greater than the entire gross domestic product of all but 24 countries in the world. It’s also home to the highest poverty rate in the country. In between, the middle-class that survives is largely composed of government employees–the very bureaucrats who have milked the middle class of the private economy into virtual extinction.
I am beginning to like this lady more and more! She is a straight talker.LikeLike

Obviously Measure S had no impact one way or another on any provisions of a well drafted landlord/renter lease agreement. I couldn’t care less about Measure S, but the fact is Walt is flat out intentionally ignoring facts. Walt, for such a self-sufficient, anti-regulatory guy such as yourself, seems you were sloppy with the supervision of your own property. Did you want a govt. agency to monitor it for you?

Measure S is over and done with so arguing about its content at this point is…pointless. In the ongoing War on Drugs, battles are won and battles are lost. My only interest in all of this is to ensure that patients have the right to choose between harmful pharmaceutical drugs and natural, herbal remedies. I don’t believe how we choose to heal ourselves is an area the government should be involved in. I have zero confidence in the FDA to regulate drugs that are safe. Instead they OK drugs that make their manufacturers the most money, but I support the right of people to decide for themselves if they want to use pharmaceuticals.

“The archetypal screen tough guy with weatherbeaten features–one film critic described his rugged looks as “a Clark Gable who had been left out in the sun too long”–Charles Bronson was born Charles Buchinsky, one of 15 children of struggling parents in Pennsylvania. His mother, Mary (Valinsky), was born in Pennsylvania, to Lithuanian parents, and his father, Walter Buchinsky, was a Lithuanian immigrant coal miner.”LikeLike

PatriciaS 1128am – Yes, beating S to death once more is getting old. But I am interested in whether you can point us to a model ordnance for MMJ – one that would overcome the factors for which S was opposed – that has already been adopted by some jurisdiction, or is in a draft form which you and ASA would like to see implemented in California.

George 11May15, 1:01PM I’ve only seen one intitiative that I thought covered every issue fairly and simply, but it didn’t make the ballot. Everything else is a work in progress. I’m sure there will be provisions included in the 2016 legalization initiative that will make me cringe, but you and I will have to wait until it’s written before I can comment.

Pattie there are already 3 versions filed for 2016 with sec. states office and I believe 2 have been green lighted for signature gathering as of last week. Why no comment on them? One of them was co-authored by one of your local lawyers. It seems the S issue came up because Walt was observing the fact of any ballot prop is that the devil is in the details and the real world consequences are myriad, some intended. Often like 215 they leave it vague intentionally and we have seen the consequences of that approach.

Don, I don’t feel the initiatives that have been filed so far are worth commenting on because none of them (most likely) will make it to the ballot. I think the ReformCA will be the only one to qualify and it hasn’t been written yet. They are waiting to see what comes down through Sacramento first. To be continued…
PS Did I miss a post somewhere? Where did Charles Bronson’s ethnicity find its way into this conversation? I worked with him on a TV movie once. Wasn’t the warmest person I’ve ever encountered. As an aside, Ed Asner was on the same movie so there was always plenty of lively conversation.LikeLike

Perhaps since my friend worked with Burt after the plastic surgery and subsequent loss of his former macho-stud status- that likely had something to do with his demeanor. The Worst Person category would have more than a few worthy contestants in Hollywood.

As to beating a dead horse on measure s it was ‘jon’ being a punk a** biatch with the smarter than any of you attitude in his reply to walts observation (that was in fact correct) that got it going. Best person in Hollywood, judging by his humility, common sense, and salt of the earth demeanor that I worked with by far would be Sam Elliott. Nicest couple would be Sam Elloitt and Katharine Ross. Best Hollywood couple not into the Hollywood scene, not living in LA, and spends weekends breaking Broncos and horseback riding: Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross. The worse list is to long to list due to space constraints.
Every once in awhile, you come across a “star” (or well recognized face) that is not an neurotic insecure self-centered egomaniac. Sam is one of the few.
Charley B. a Pollock? I have to disagree respectfully despite what Wikepedia states. Mr. Bronson was an Native American whose body was carved out of a hillside and was a nature lover as well. One of his relatives is still alive and became a current U.S. Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Charles also had an inate way with wild critters due to his Native American roots.

Jon, Brother Ben told us all loud and clear when he announced his sphincter ailments not to go easy on him nor cut him any slack. His wish is our commando. However, my Brotha from anotha Motha, dear Benjamin, apparently has been a tad grumpy lately, especially on Motha’s Day of all days. I know my sista from anotha mista, Bro Ben, does not seek sympathy. Perhaps mo understanding of his sphincter problems would help us all empathize, but he has yet to divulge details and I am not in a position to see for myself.
If….and this is a big if, if Brother Ben really said he “hates white people writing for black people”, then he would not have anything to write about. No more long essays complete with no numberous supporting links excusing bad behavior by black people. Hey, just a few years ago Ben discovered the old book “Black Like Me”. I read that in the 5th or 6th grade, well before Ben’s miracle birth into this world. Yeah, I read Malcom X in junior high and later in high school drove down to the local public library to protest them banning Do It! by Jerry Rubin. Also joined a protest cause the local junior….ER…community college rescinded a speaking engagement by Eldridge Cleaver. Heard he came black from Cuba since hearing about the New X-Box in Amerika, but I digress. Bet Bro. Ben never sat next to John Carlos or Tommie Smith and shot the breeze after their abrupt departure from Mexico City. Boy, Those were the days, lol.
Ben, Ben, Ben. Been there, done that. This ain’t the 30’s when struggling labor was organizing into unions to fight for fair treatment, nor is this the 60’s (a tumultuous period about 50 years ago caused by Flower Power, drugs, sex out of wedlock, and vulgar Rock-Roll),
So, Ben, reach back in time and be a train tramp again with Utah and organize the hobo camps to stand up to Da Man. Or, just replay one of those 400 years of slavery tapes that keep repeating in yer noggin. Play it again and again, Piano Man, and maybe someday somebody will throw some loose change in the tip jar. Yes, Ben, the noise in your head is starting to bother me. Peace out bro, don’t let the nuke juice mess with your fro. :).LikeLike

Dr. Rebane., “ToddJ 824pm – No offense taken; Lithuanians are a fine people and neighbors on the Baltic.”. Very true. Their bond with Estonians runs deep.
A Lithuanian was working his tail off trying to fall a tree. He was sawing like there was no tomorrow and making little progress. An Estonian passed by and offered some help, which the Lithuanian gladly accepted. The Estonian picked up the saw, pulled the cord, and the engine instantly revved up. The Lithuanian jumped back asking “What, what, what’s that noise??”
Ok, I heard that joke from a Norweigian fellow who used a Finnish chap sawing like mad to no avail, but since the topic did not include our Scandinavian brothern, I improvised. Now, a Pollock, an Apache, and Charles Bronson walk into a Swedish German bar and the bartender asks…..LikeLike
-
BillT 1119am – Very funny Mr Tozer. BTW, few know that Estonians are the stealth Nordics along with the Finns. Both are racially, ethnically, culturally (including linguistically) identical. Pre-Christian Estonians also contributed to the Viking terror during the turn of the first millennium, plundering Russian river villages all the way to the Black Sea, and ravaging the peninsular coasts of Europe down to the Pillars of Hercules. To this day the country’s seals and jewelry reflect that epoch in Estonian history.

Wondering why the economy is still in the tank?
The cost of federal regulation neared $2 trillion in 2014, according to a new report by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI).
Ten Thousand Commandments: An Annual Snapshot of the Federal Regulatory State, a report by Clyde Wayne Crews, CEI’s vice president for policy, also reveals that the U.S. debt now exceeds the size of China’s economy.
“Federal regulation and intervention cost American consumers and businesses an estimated $1.88 trillion in 2014 in lost economic productivity and higher prices,” amounting to roughly $15,000 per household, the report said.
