[Well, the weather outside is frightening … .  Since the trees have leafed, we are going outside periodically to knock the snow off those bent over branches of the 'specimen trees' we can reach.

And the local dust devil getting people roiled around Nevada County today is the question 'Was Terry Lamphier set up?' for the child porn allegations that he is facing.  Oh, the things that concern us in this hamlet as the state fights a politically amplified drought, the country prepares to adopt another 11 million illegal aliens into a still faltering economy and disintegrating culture, and the west refuses to acknowledge, let alone confront, radical Islam.]

I also hope the Republicans end up with someone other than Jeb Bush, both for their own sake, as well as the nation. But not optimistic. Bush is going to end up being another Romney, with a history of evolving positions to be pounced upon like red meat. But will be interesting to watch, like a car crash, as Bush’s team batters the young Rubio into submission. The young former protégé of Mr. Bush is way out of his league going up against that battle tested Bushie team of pols and their money. Really poor decision for Rubio to jump into the race now, after Paul and Cruz got the jump.

California is not the only state with Counties that want to secede from a political machine that is run by liberal Democrats:
But what is the solution? There have been debates raging for years in the Empire State about finding some way to split off New York City as its own state or allowing portions of upstate to secede and sign on with somebody else. But as long as the cities hold the numerical edge on the votes in the state government, there’s not much that anyone can do. It’s a culture war over a way of life and the economic realities of wildly different societal climates. And there’s no end in sight.

It is simplistic to believe that such separation movements will not grow as ‘democracy’ rears its head in statewide elections that the more rural regions have no chance in making themselves heard.

    from Daily Kos –
“A total of 111 people were killed by police in the United States in March of 2015. Since 1900, in the entire United Kingdom, 52 people have been killed by police.
Don’t bother adjusting for population differences, or poverty, or mental illness, or anything else. The sheer fact that American police kill TWICE as many people per month as police have killed in the modern history of the United Kingdom is sick, preposterous, and alarming.”
Get that? The left openly tells us not to correct for reality – just
post raw numbers and go for it. Police brutality is a real problem and needs to be monitored, but this is just stupidity squared. They are actually proclaiming that throwing numbers at the wall prove stuff.
It would be nice if some one from the left could show up here and argue from a basis of reason and facts, but I’m not holding my breath.
Since we’re not allowed to ‘correct’ for ANY reason, let’s look at the numbers for black crime rates in the US and black on black crime. Also, let’s compare black against white rape, murder and assault vs white against black for the same crimes.
The lefties are now running for the exits.
Crickets can be deafening, what say you?

Jon and Gregory – Of course we need to watch for police brutality and call it out when it occurs. And of course the comparison with the Brits is absurd.
My point was that the left just wants outrage about what ever they are harping on and are openly saying they will fabricate ‘evidence’ to prove their point.
The phoney gang rape story from Rolling Stone didn’t help the cause of trying to eliminate rape. They are still trying to protect the miserable little worm that made up the lie in the first place because she is a ‘victim’.
There is no rape crises on campuses and there is no open season on whites hunting down and killing blacks. It’s all fabricated.
There are real cases of the police brutalizing and killing innocent folks and we need to stick with actual facts. But the facts don’t fit the narrative from the left, so they make things up to divert from the real problem. It’s evil. It takes attention away from real rape victims and real problems of police and civilian interaction. Also takes attention off the real issue of why blacks are being slaughtered in this country. Obama and Sharpton and Holder have and are fomenting racial hatred and violence in this country and the left is playing right along. It has the deliberate and calculated end of dividing and weakening our country. They want division and hatred and violence to increase just as they want economic havoc. They know it will lead to a frightened and cowed populace calling for ever more govt control and regulation.

Perhaps the Brits have been less likely to attack police because, for the most part, British cops are unarmed. Numerous studies have been done indicating that just the presence of a weapon (in one study a weapon gun, knife, etc., it didn’t matter, was just sitting on a desk in plain sight while participants were being interviewed) makes people more aggressive.

Agree with Joe on perception and visibility of weaponry wielded by the already powerful authorities. Very good take on why British society reacts differently. Same issue with our very presence, not to mention the record of killing of innocents in the Middle East. News today reports 1MILLION citizens of Iraq killed in the war there since 2003, 5% of their population.
Mission Accomplished indeed. Sure there will be lots of love for the old USA when every person in Iraq knows an innocent killed.
And Scott, there IS a serious rape crisis on the college campuses of America. Many articles, papers and books on the subject. Very, very real. The Rolling Stone article was a fabrication, but that situation doesn’t change the reality.

No Second Amendment rights in Britain. But they had a world domination for three hundred years with their colonies and they certainly used the power of their military to squelch “freedom fighters” during those times. I remember Gandhi the movie and it showed the British massacring Indians wishing freedom. But, their own people in Britain can’t have a gun.

The only ‘crises’ on our campi is the flood of students that seem to have never quite grown up. There have always been rapes of both men and women at universities and colleges, but what’s with this new ‘crisis’?
They just decided to redefine what rape is to accommodate the 12 year olds that now seem to populate our schools. Mostly, it’s just drunken fools that have sex with whatever and decide 2 months later the guy is ‘icky’. So they file a complaint with the new sex nazi office and drag some moron through the grinder with a totally unconstitutional process that assumes the man is guilty and won’t even afford him the right to prove otherwise. If you think this is just a man’s opinion, I can point to women that feel the same way. Camille Paglia and Kathy Shaidle to name just 2.
Again – this is not excuse rape but to point out that the left is manufacturing a phony crises to get young men use to unconstitutional govt control over their lives while real rape cases are forced to share time with made up BS.
That new Kalifornia ‘consent’ law is complete joke. The only way for a young man to protect himself under this law is for him to video every second of every sexual act with a female. Whatever happened to consenting adults? I thought the govt was supposed to get it’s nose out of the bedroom.

    Then what happens?
ISIS is operating a camp just a few miles from El Paso, Texas, according to Judicial Watch sources that include a Mexican Army field grade officer and a Mexican Federal Police Inspector.
The exact location where the terrorist group has established its base is around eight miles from the U.S. border in an area known as “Anapra” situated just west of Ciudad Juárez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Another ISIS cell to the west of Ciudad Juárez, in Puerto Palomas, targets the New Mexico towns of Columbus and Deming for easy access to the United States, the same knowledgeable sources confirm.
During the course of a joint operation last week, Mexican Army and federal law enforcement officials discovered documents in Arabic and Urdu, as well as “plans” of Fort Bliss – the sprawling military installation that houses the US Army’s 1st Armored Division. Muslim prayer rugs were recovered with the documents during the operation.
Law enforcement and intelligence sources report the area around Anapra is dominated by the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes Cartel (“Juárez Cartel”), La Línea (the enforcement arm of the cartel) and the Barrio Azteca (a gang originally formed in the jails of El Paso). Cartel control of the Anapra area make it an extremely dangerous and hostile operating environment for Mexican Army and Federal Police operations.
According to these same sources, “coyotes” engaged in human smuggling – and working for Juárez Cartel – help move ISIS terrorists through the desert and across the border between Santa Teresa and Sunland Park, New Mexico. To the east of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, cartel-backed “coyotes” are also smuggling ISIS terrorists through the porous border between Acala and Fort Hancock, Texas. These specific areas were targeted for exploitation by ISIS because of their understaffed municipal and county police forces, and the relative safe-havens the areas provide for the unchecked large-scale drug smuggling that was already ongoing.
Mexican intelligence sources report that ISIS intends to exploit the railways and airport facilities in the vicinity of Santa Teresa, NM (a US port-of-entry). The sources also say that ISIS has “spotters” located in the East Potrillo Mountains of New Mexico (largely managed by the Bureau of Land Management) to assist with terrorist border crossing operations. ISIS is conducting reconnaissance of regional universities; the White Sands Missile Range; government facilities in Alamogordo, NM; Ft. Bliss; and the electrical power facilities near Anapra and Chaparral, NM.

When ISIS brings the war to our shores, is Obama prepared to react?

But yet again, not surprising as you don’t want to see the problem and you don’t have college age daughters. FBI statistics? Pretty much worthless because of ridiculously lax, voluntary reporting by the colleges themselves. For obvious reasons, they do not want the data out there. But this is now changing slowly, again thanks to progressive California, and a couple very astute Senators.

Russ, it will be interesting to see if the “ISIS in Mexico” story pans out.
Although Mexico is predominately a Catholic country there must be more than a few people who are not Catholic living in the country. How does judicial Watch know they are ISIL? By now, if the CIA did not already know about this, they are probably swarming all over it by now.
“Mexican authorities, however, disputed the Judicial Watch findings.
“The government of Mexico dismisses and categorically denies each of the statements made today by the organization Judicial Watch on the alleged presence of ISIS’s operating cells throughout the border region, particularly at Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – El Paso, Texas,” Ariel Moutsatsos-Morales, Mexico’s minister for press and public affairs, told The Washington Times.”
“The relevant authorities operating in the region have also confirmed the inexistence of these activities with their US counterparts, with whom they will continue to work closely and to exchange information at our common border,” Moutsatsos-Morales added.

Once again the right wing propaganda machine fabricates a crisis–
    from Media Matters:
“Right-wing media have a history of echoing dubious Judicial Watch reports to incite fear about terrorists crossing the U.S. border. Fox News parroted the group’s September 2014 claim that a terrorist attack from the U.S.-Mexico border was “imminent,” although the claim was roundly denounced by terrorism experts and rated “mostly false” by Politifact.”
“Right-wing media are trumpeting a spurious Judicial Watch report claiming that an Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist camp has been set up near the Texas border, allowing ISIS terrorists to be smuggled into the United States, despite the fact that U.S. federal law agencies say the claim is unsubstantiated.”
An April 14 report from Judicial Watch, a conservative government watchdog group, claimed that the terrorist group “ISIS is operating a camp just a few miles from El Paso, Texas,” and ISIS terrorists are being smuggled “through the porous border,” which is being targeted due to “understaffed municipal and country police forces.”
Right-wing media outlets quickly echoed the dubious claim, and Fox News host Sean Hannity highlighted the Judicial Watch report on the April 14 edition of his radio show. Hannity read from the report, calling it “a very dangerous story,” and stoked fears that Islamic State terrorists are being smuggled into the U.S., saying “we have said so many times for so many years that we need to secure America’s borders.” Hannity concluded by asking, “what are you going to do about that President Obama, anything?”
But federal law agencies involved with border security have said the Judicial Watch report of Islamic State terrorists near the U.S.-Mexico border is “unverified.”

“Why” is a very good question Joe. It is established fact that the Bush administration was informed numerous times from the CIA and other intelligence sources that an attack was imminent yet did nothing to increase security before 9-11.
    George
there was pleanty of warning but it was ignored,
CIA chief George Tenet himself writes ”
“This intelligence delivered on July 10 was specific and was generated within 24 hours of the meeting,” said the first official, who pointed out the text in the Tenet memoir.
Tenet wrote about how after being briefed by his counterterrorism team on July 10 — two months prior to the attacks — “I picked up the big white secure phone on the left side of my desk — the one with a direct line to Condi Rice — and told her that I needed to see her immediately to provide an update on the al-Qaida threat.”
Tenet said he could not recall another time in his seven years as director of the CIA that he sought such an urgent meeting at the White House. Rice agreed to the meeting immediately, and 15 minutes later, he was in Rice’s office.”
Despite this there was no followup to the specific concerns Tenet expressed. Why??????
I suggest reading the entire article for details

PaulE 943am – Thank you for the link. But the point I’m exploring is what specifically and feasibly could the govt have done with such a generalized warning. Today the govt is also getting a slew of daily warnings that from the sound of HSB’s director are just as dire – threatening 9/11 level attacks – and just as generalized over type, space, and time as were the 9/11 warnings. If another 9/11 happens tomorrow, we can all point to the warnings that Obama got and ignored. But is he ignoring such warnings? we don’t know because we don’t know what all he could feasibly do and is not doing to allay the threat.
The Left’s desire to hold Bush2 – a president in office less than 8 months – responsible for 9/11 is understandable. FDR suffered the same fate for Pearl Harbor, and the debate continues now for almost 75 years. I don’t think that the Bush2 will ever be any more free of the 9/11 attack than was FDR.
Fundamentally though, what again is the point of today claiming that Bush2 could have prevented 9/11 given evidence of the types of alerts he then got and no evidence that any response based on those alerts would have been 1) feasible and 2) effective?

    • A mid-June statement from Osama bin Laden to trainees that there will be an attack in the near future.
    • Information that talked about moving toward decisive acts.
    • Late June information that cited a “big event” that was forthcoming.
    • “Two separate bits of information collected only a few days before our meeting in which people were predicting a stunning turn of events in the weeks ahead.””
